Go Home

Seriously, these people are nuts:

[Grover] Norquist is now mapping out how he can ensure further anti-tax victories by securing Republican majorities. In an interview with the National Journal, he mused that a GOP mandate would obviously enact an extension of the Bush tax cuts, work to maintain a repatriation holiday for corporate profits, and even pass House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan that jeopardizes Medicare. But when asked what Republicans should do if faced with a Democratic majority that won’t keep the tax cuts, Norquist had a simple answer: “impeach” Obama.

NJ: What if the Democrats still have control? What’s your scenario then?

NORQUIST: Obama can sit there and let all the tax [cuts] lapse, and then the Republicans will have enough votes in the Senate in 2014 to impeach. The last year, he’s gone into this huddle where he does everything by executive order. He’s made no effort to work with Congress.

The Republican Party is being ruled by clowns and idiots, to put it mildly. But even with the Joe Walshes and Dana Rohrabachers, there's no way that the Republicans will go down this route. Impeaching over letting tax holiday they voted for expire? Getouttahere, Grover. You may think you rule Washington, but that's just delusional.

Mr. Norquist needs a civics lesson. The House "impeaches", not the Senate. If the House doesn't "impeach" the President, then no matter who controls it, the Senate never gets a chance to "convict" the President. Plain and simple.

Exactly. This is one of the reasons why it is not wise to let clowns run the circus.

You'd think a man who the GOP takes so much "advice" from, would know something about the procedures for impeaching the POTUS. Was he living in a cave when Clinton was in the Oval Office?

What an idiot!!

Second, KEEP power.

Good luck Grover. With the candidates your precious republicans have lined up, and their records of lies and deceptions, you will lose the House too. Then what?

little miscreant should be kept in a cage. The Repubs have some losers, but his guy really thinks he rules the world because the arrogant Republicans continue to allow it. I wonder at what point they will realize he is making them look like a bunch of Eunuchs.

I still think anyone who signs his pledge (no matter how much he denies it's "his" pledge) should be brought up on charges of treason.

send an email to http://www.whitehouse.gov and asked how those in congress could get away with pledging to TWO different things...
I always figured when they pledged an OATH to the Constitution, it was the only one they could pledge to...
but they shouldn't be allowed to 'pledge' to a man who has no power other than obviously scaring the bejesus out of everyone because they want to retain their seats....

One or the other...and if they want to pledge to Norquist they should be FORCED to resign their seat in Congress....

never heard anything back, though

The stupid repubics in Congress have their collective tongues lodged up Grover's ample butt. Of course they'll do exactly what he commands. Congressional repubics as a group are unable to think for themselves.

Dradeeus's picture

Eeegh... at this point, I gotta be honest, I don't really even care. We already look like clowns of the earth to the rest of the world, the Republicans just block everything anyways. Why not go full-throttle. Why stop there. Just say you'll put any Democrat in prison for treason who thinks the tax rate should be raised.. uh, what is it... 4%?

Keep in mind, choosing between someone who has been right all along, and Grover Norquist, any MSM platform will choose Norquist.

I would get upset at this guy, but it's the fault of the media and the idiot right half of the country who is letting this guy run the show (seriously National Journal, couldn't you call him out on the impeachment line?). A lot of the millions starving on the street support what this guy is pushing. They've been fooled into thinking that they're one of the privileged few.

If you have people in Congress who take things like precedent, the constitution, basic decency and fair play, etc. seriously then yes. That's pretty much been the case for most of our history even up through the Nixon and Reagan years. But now its not and unfortunately the founders assumed it would be the case. The constitution is written so that "high crimes and misdemeanors" can be pretty much whatever the people in congress want it to mean. So in theory if they have the votes they could impeach. There is no higher authority that can over-rule them. That's why they could impeach Clinton for lying about a BJ, hardly something that any legal scholar would consider to be what the founders had in mind as an impeachable offense.

ikalbertus's picture

Either the Republicans are suffering a mass delusion with Grover the delusioner in charge or he really does have their nutsacks in some sharp pincers. The cognitive dissonance is breathtaking. Why doesn't someone in the MSM just ask him where he derives his perceived power, which the media only enables by treating him as a serious person. He can say "There’s no point in spending any time getting too worked up on imaginary conversations about imaginary things" and in the same interview talk about impeaching a president as a political manuever.

They wouldn't state in the articles of impeachment that it was a high crime/misdemeanor for President Obama not to extend the Bush tax breaks - they'd impeach him for, say, making a recess appointment despite the pro-forma sessions that the Republican House forced on the Senate, or for Solyndra, or some other invented scandal.

It would be tough to find a better example of the republican party's rule-or-ruin philosophy than this threat by Norquist. The more he talks the more he sounds over the cliff except for the interests of the extremely wealthy and the more disparaging he is toward the interests of the 99%. How come it isn't treasonous that Grover even asks and then gets the Repugs to sign his pledge? If they turn on the pledge , Grover targets them for extinction.. Doesn't his pledge violate the Oath of Allegiance? "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.[1]" Or maybe the Grover Pledge violates one of the Ten Commandments since Grover is clearly a false god whom anyone in their right mind wouldn't support. I think that we should charge this evil dwarf with treason and try him. He is a true homegrown terrorist!

As far as taxes his crowd ( draft dogers Bush and Cheney also ) were cutting taxes during wars. I never heard of this. Whenever you bring this up the Republican INc. Response is " they do not discus facts". similar to nOrquist and his bubble.
