Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread
By Nicole Belle Sunday Oct 26, 2008 4:00amI don't know if the McCain campaign is being unintentionally ironic or if they're just completely tone deaf to symbolism, but John McCain has agreed to be Tom Brokaw's guest for the entire hour of Meet the Press. However, McCain opted not to leave the campaign trail to do it, so he'll be speaking to Brokaw from Iowa...Waterloo, Iowa. Really? The namesake of the battle location that ended Napoleon's reign in Europe? What are his campaign advisers thinking?
ABC's "This Week" - Jack Welch, former chief executive of General Electric Co.; Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Robert Rubin, former Treasury secretary and adviser to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.; Doug Holtz-Eakin, adviser to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; Govs. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., and Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn.
NBC's "Meet the Press" - McCain.
CNN's "Late Edition" - Sens. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.; Reps. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, D-Fla., and Heather Wilson, R-N.M.
"Fox News Sunday" - Gov. Tim Kaine, D-Va.; former Gov. Tom Ridge, R-Pa.
"The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Andrea Mitchell, John Heilemann, Clarence Page, Anne Kornblut; Topics: Is America heading for a major political realignment? Was McCain's choice of Palin a mistake?
So, what's catching your eye this morning?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! (laughing at video, great editing job)
Seriously, how many more duck and runs can he get away with before poeple finally realise he has nothing TO say.
Every week i see graham on these shows...doesn't he have a job??..and still no Palin...and the press remains silent...
She'll go on. Didn't I read she has become a Diva and the Campaign has lost control of her?
Dog help America.
If she can't even do "Face the Nation", how can she "Face the Nation"?
You know McCain will say something stupid which will be the lead story tomorrow. They just can't help themselves.
It's his chance to get free air time.
But I've been really digging the German version of Waterloo lately
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4_2TGXZubQ
Always Trumps Political Talking Head.
If McCain's advisers were smart - which they've given us no reason to think thus far - they'd just spin the 'Waterloo' slip-up as part and parcel of McCain's previously declared status as an ABBA fan.
I really don't know how they'll spin Monday's rally in Philippi, Ohio.
After the election, McPain should give his last news conference from Helena, Montana. Fitting.
It looks like Tommy B. is giving his buddy McCain one last chance at a game changer. Here's hoping this attempt is just as effective as the last several he has tried.
I just watched a little promo for "Meet the Press" with Brokaw and he yacked on and on about how the polls are tightening and that we always need to consider "The Bradley Effect when voters get into that voting booth and can't decide if they can actually vote for A BLACK MAN."
Thanks Tom. Maybe if you remind voters of that enough, (even those who really were actually considering issues, like, say, the next 2-3 Supreme Court members who will be named over the next 4 years), maybe those voters WILL instead vote for McCain simply because you reminded them enough times to consider when they go to vote if they can actually vote for A BLACK MAN.
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT think of a pink elephant.
"The Brokaw Effect" - Remind people of the Bradley Effect enough to make it real.
Too bad he forgot to mention the "Old age and Too Ignorant" Effect as well............
Watch for Brokaw to ask the tough questions like, "Let me set up your talking point for you: couldn't it be said that Sen. Obama is inexperienced and that his candidacy should *trouble* people?"
Oh Tom you little bugger you. You just love the old man. You can't help yourself. Love fest.
It's really too bad that we can't retire Brokaw at the same time we retire McCain. Tom, pack it in, you're embarrassing yourself.
Both candidates spout the change meme, but look at all the people in the last months that have been representing both of them. Same people that already f*cked up the economy and then some. Look at their advisors. Same people that already f*cked up everything they touched in previous administrations. Boy, I sure hope everyone has low expectations for either of these two. Change? Ya, from your wallet to theirs.
Well if you aren't happy then what is your suggestion? The problem was deregulation. Once Regan started and than the republicans took power they went deregulation crazy.
Both McCain and Obama are very focused, not only on the means, but the ends. So, I don't equate their advisors as pursuing equal goals. it really does depend on the leader's perspective.
Here’s What Brokaw SHOULD Ask McCain on MTP
http://satiricalpolitical.com/?p=4333
Even though Obama doesn't need the free air time, wouldn't tradition and fairness (I know, there's no 'Fairness Doctrine')give them 1/2 each this close to the election? Just curious.
Love that video. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw Waterloo mentioned. The Helena mention above is a great idea as well. All that's left to add is "able was John McCain ere he saw Elba, Alabama."
Fns: "In the waining days of the campaign, will the MSM show their bias?"
Pot: Will all those kettles finally admit they are black?
That means they'll vote for Obama - since all that matters to people is voting race!
FOX then admits it's not MSM by asking that question. Curious that they would realize that.
The Patriot Act! Yes, was given birth on this day, October 26, 2001, signed into law by George W. Bush. Happy effin' Birthday! Thanks George, and also thanks to the 107th Congress!
Map on Fox is getting bluer.
I probably shouldn't start crowing just yet, but if the MSM (except the AP polls??) continues to show Obama with double digit leads and a landslide approaching, watching the Faux News Pundits wiggle and squirm and whine and implode on Election Night might actually be a lot of fun!!!
How about an open thread covering Fox for Election Night John?
It's so bad financially for the (un)mainstream media giant ABC, that they have cancelled all their Xmas parties for employees and all their magazine and newspaper subscriptions.
...to "how McCain wins Nevada":
Rove: "Remember, in 2004, 48% of Democratic ballots cast in Nevada were Early & Absentee ballots, and Bush won by 18%. This year, it's 52%."
Not sure what he's trying to suggest by that factoid, but it sounds troubling.
Rove: ""Biden has been a gaffe a day. If Palin had said some of the things Biden has said, they would of carved her up."
The worst comment by Moose Momma was giving her experience in foreign affairs because she can see Russia from her back door. You must admit she isn't ready for primetime Mugsy. Today her own Newspaper endorsed Obama. In case you don't know it Obama knows alot. You just let the republicans feed you lines without checking them out. Palin isn't presidential material and she never will be among most resonable people.
... some big black guy from Pittsbugh would've sliced a big, backwards "B" on her cheek???
campaigning? Remember that olé' saying, "You can get your waterloo in Waterloo." McNasty just might say to "my friend" Tommy Brokeback, this is my waterloo.
What caught my eye, The Chris Matthews Show-Is Palin a mistake?
I'm still getting over her dissing the 'freedom' flies.
FnS Kristol: "It's the McCain staff" that has prevented Palin from doing the Sunday shows. "Now that she has broken with her staff, she should start doing the Sunday shows."
Palin and Rev. Muthee have been plotting her meteoric rise to stardom for some time now.
I read a very interesting expose in the Oct. 27th issue of "The New Yorker", "The Insiders: How John McCain came to pick Sarah Palin".
According to her former top policy adviser during her 2006 gubernatorial race, John Bitney, "Sarah's very conscientious about crafting the story of Sarah. She's all about the hockey mom and Mrs. Palin Goes to Washington--the anti-politician politician....There's some political opportunity on her part. For years she's had D.C. in mind. She's not interested in being on the junior-varsity team."
Throw in a few cruises to Alaska with big Republican types like William Kristol, Dick Morris and Fred Barnes back in June of 2007, some "salmon cheeks" dinners and within hours Sarah had the guys drooling all over her. Even Barnes later gushed how "exceptionally pretty" she was. She was so after these guys that at the end of the afternoon, as dinnertime approached she demured, "Hey! Does anyone want to stay for dinner?!"
In the meantime, everyone who has seen the YouTubes of Palin and her wacko "Witch Hunter" pastor Muthee has to wonder, "What exactly is THEIR big plan for the United States of America (the lower 48)?!
...it's not "their plan"
>>>>it's Gawd's Plan!!!!!
(trumpets sounding in the background, bright, light
illuminating Miss Sarah's "exceptional prettiness..)
Simple observation:
I'm noting that the Fox news Power Panel is already referring to the McCain campaign in "past tense". :)
At his age, it's all pretty much "passed"......:)
Wallace: "And when we come back, we have the HARD NUMBERS...to prove it!"
Making up numbers is "HARD WORK".
They are focusing on the coverage of Biden vs. Palin as their "proof of bias".
They showed a chart "Negative press of Obama, 27%, vs. 57% for McCain."
I refer them to my page: http://obamattacks.bi30.org/
Their “Fair and Balanced” BS at work.
Report on the Global Recession? Bias.
Report on the failing Iraq situation? Bias.
Report on Election Fraud. Bias.
Report on ANYTHING about Sarah? Bias.
Report on the turnout of Obama rallies? Bias.
…
Just like the word “Liberal” and “Enemy Combatant” – when you get to define the meaning, it can mean anything you want it to.
Too perfect.
McCain: "Reagan never raised taxes in tough economic times."
Brokaw: "He did. Two years after the recession upon entering office."
McCain's defense when confronted with his own comments on taxes: "These are different times."
Is Brokaw going to be a journalist and really challenge McCain on each issue brought up, or will he throw him softballs like they would on Fox News?
He could barely hide his disgust about Palin when she managed to get the answer wrong about what the Vice President's role is. Hell, i'm in London and even I know what the job is!!!
No big surprise here in Fresno, CA really.
I just caught a segment with one of their blond bimbos and a putz from "Acornwatch." He said that they are "...completely non-partisan," to which the Fux twit said, "We are too."
God, is there a bar open yet???
Acornwatch....the new Rethug bogeyman.
Brokaw has been grilling McCain surprisingly well.
On the subject of Palin's rising negatives, Brokaw said "Most people now don't consider her qualified to become President."
McCain: "Because?" (hoping Brokaw would cite "inexperience".)
Brokaw: "Because of some of the interviews she's given since the convention and some of the things she's said."
McCain responds by citing Palin's "experience" vs. Obama's.
i'm watching this interview and I really miss Tim Russerrt
Did my eyes just deceive me?
Did MtP just show a map listing "Texas" as a "battleground state"???
I'm here in Texas and yes Obama very well could take Houston, San Antonio. Dallas, and a whole bunch of border towns making the state competitive but it's a big big state and will most likely as a whole go McCain but the progress is there. Go Texans!
I like to point out to people that Gore won Houston... within the city limits... in 2000. It wasn't until you added in votes from the suburbs that he lost.
The paper reported Friday that Early Voting in Houston is "up 104% over 2004, mostly due to inner city voters."
Rethug math??
“Beat the Meat” – funny. Masturbatory Media.
Now that the GOPS are deserting the sinking ship (of state, or, rather, John McShame's run for the White House), one is reminded of the play and movie, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial.. In that story, the chief antagonist ship captain, Queeg, is depicted as lording over a U.S. Navy vessel much in the way the movies have portrayed Captain William Bligh, whose mean-spirited dictates prompted the rebellion aboard the H.M.S. Bounty.
In The Caine Mutiny, Queeg is depicted as going bonkers over who swiped the last servings of fresh strawberries. We soon gather that the man is a service-scarred schizoid with paranoid delusions. When Humphrey Bogart played Queeg in the film version, he used a facial tic and a compulsive habit of squirreling a couple of ball bearings in his palm while he testified at the resulting court martial of the officers who took command of the Caine.
Earlier, I posted a comment saying that the only thing lacking in the Queeg = McShame equation was ball bearings. I now see that I am at least only part incorrect. On Meet the Press today, McShame responded to some tough questions by Tom Brokaw by rolling over and over in his fingers a pen he might have needed for a debate. But this was not a debate; hence, why the writing instrument? Clearly, the pen is McShame/Queeg's set of ball bearings.
It was simply pathetic to sit and listen to his stuttering, illogical, non-sequitrous responses. One heard a desperate man, claiming, for example, that he disagrees with the polls. Duh! What are polls but public expressions of opinion. In effect, McShame disagrees with the public. He claims that it will be a long night November 4th. I don't think so. I think it will all be over by 11 p.m. Eastern.
Careful. You're starting to sound like Keefer. (Just kidding)
Nice catch.
Here is the ball bearing scene McShame replayed for us on Meet the Press today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9KlQPX1qiE
Waterloo will be relived on Nov. 4th. Of course, the cold harsh winters in Russia did the GOP in.
Well once we send Moose Momma back to AK she'll keep a watch out for the lower 48 because she will see Russia from her back door first and give us all a warning. You betcha
I only caught a several minute glimpse of Meet The Press and what I saw was most stunning - McCain at his personal "worst" - stuttering and rattling off talking points ad nauseum and totally out of order. When he rotely recited the list of individuals and clearly couldn't recall the last one, he could only go back to it via beginning at the top and rattling it off all over again. When he still failed to remember that 5th individual, Brokaw kindly moved him out of his befuddlement by changing the topic. This was where we witnessed the depth of McCain's mental problems - he gave a short retort to Brokaw's question and then interjected the fifth name saying "this was the first one" which left everyone shaking their heads in the realization that his lame brain had just identified the one he couldn't remember in the answer to the previous question.
This is a "birds (or bird brains?) eye view" of John McCain. He's become a bumbling idiot and hasn't the first clue about what he's saying beyond memorized talking points and stump lines.
Which leads any logical thinker to one of two conclusions: After watching McCain's recitation and obsession with recalling that 5th individuals -
1)McCain doesn't have the ability to multi-task mentally is finally confirmed ....or....
2)If it isn't memorized, there's nothing there any longer.
Either of these two conclusions means that one cannot vote for McCain, The Elder.
This conclusion is also one of two diagnoses:
1) the onslaught of senile dementia
2) the obvious metastasis of his Type 3b Invasive Melanoma to his brain.
There is no other logical conclusion.
In retrospect, now his buddy and fellow lockstepper Tom Brokaw will be blamed by the GOP for helping to "out" McCain and define his "waterloo".
"George Schultz!!! It was George Schultz!! THAT was the 5th one!!!"
No, it was Stuart Sutcliffe!
This day and interview with McCain will go down in american history as "McCain's Waterloo" moment. It wasn't enough that his campaign is now associated with the sleaziest of campaigns ever in the history of this country but now the press outs him in living color and permits him to dump in his Depends on national television.
Another interesting observation which is working in Obama's favor:
As Republicans down line (down the $hithole?) from McCain scurry to scrap their negative ads because they see how much damage they are actually doing (a 1960's type campaign of smut and sleaze), the only thing they can hang onto is the meme about having a Democratic congress.
Little do these eejits realize that this is precisely what the american people want and know we need. We've seen our Democratic congress being stymied by the sickos of the GOP at every turn during these past 2 years and/or Bushitco veto what good they can do for the people.
These ads are reinforcing the fact for middle america that a democratic prez and a dem congress is PRECISELY what we need to make forward progress from this mess we're in.
**It should also be noted that these Repukes in their attempt to paint a majority as somehow being bad for this country, have also become "obstructionists" themselves. Everyone knows the congressional gridlock story and is sick of it. These down ticket Republicans are making the case for "increased obstructionism" now. This will also cost them their seats in Congress.
Graham: "Palin wants to do for Washington what she's done for Alaska."
Just eliminate the word "for" and you've got it quite accurate. All Palin has left in her arsenal is to "do" Washington to get votes.
Whooo hooo!! Oh, wait...
So far she hasn't been good for AK. We can't have another morphed Bush in the white house. God I hope when this is over we will never have to live with this hewoman in the future.
As I muse about what these down-ticket Repukes are doing right now I am laughing my butt off. What was the song? "You've got to accentuate the positive......?
So what they've decided might work is precisely what WILL work - for Obama. As they accentuate the problems with having one party rule (which they enjoyed, BTW, for 6 long years) is now somehow not good for this country. Ssssssssure!
By accenting the positive fact that what we do need to get things done and turned around pronto is precisely that: majority in Congress and a Dem president. Then, and only then, can this country move forward.
And, of course, the obvious "negative" for these people touting this new meme is that now look like the obstructionists whom they've been for the past two years. It solidifies that belief in the minds of all americans.
Democrats only have half of one branch of government -- the half with the funny rule that says the minority can block everything you do.
Even if the democrats sweep this election, I won't call it "rule" until Bush's retarded tax cuts expire. Then democrats have to spend the next couple terms just cleaning up the mess. Then the voters will decide that the "new breed of republicans", the "kindler, gentler conservatives" deserve another shot.
I did not know what to expect with Brokaw interviewing McCain. I expected Brokaw to send up softballs. Fortunately, I am only half through the interview and Brokaw has been very tough on McCain.
I imagine that McCain thought this interview was going to be a cake walk, and he must have been stunned that he was challenged by one of his most ardent supporters in the media. Brokaw deserves a note thanking him for the way he conducted the interview.
After ranting about "taxing small business", the inventor of "outsourcing to India" declares himself: "I'm a JOBS voter. Every decision I make, I think about jobs."
brokaw has mccain on the defense. i'm surprised but i'm enjoying it. mccain HATES seeing archive video
from the past 8 yrs. i really like the video revealing how he brags about supporting BUSH by voting
with 92%. i also like his past take on the BUSH tax cuts on video.
.
I'm watching Meet The Press as I write this.
1 - Brokaw redeems himself by asking some great questions and showing a couple good past McCain clips right out of the gate. McCain's voice is quivering and unsteady. He comes off as very nervous and unsure.
2 - The second 1/2 hour is beginning now... wait! I thought McCan't was going to do the full hour. Based on the teases, it looks like 1/2 an hour is all we get with McLame.
3 - And still no Palin: http://i38.tinypic.com/5ezxgp.jpg
.
"95% of what government does is redistribute wealth!"
very good discussion on abc with will, donaldson, roberts, and noonan. very open and honest how refreshing
When they all seemed to jump on the "don't give the Democrats control of all branches" bandwagon, I kept waiting for SOMEONE to bring up the HYPOCRISY of how Republicans LOVED the idea of controlling all three branches in 2000 and fought to retain it up to 2006.
Now suddenly, "one Party control is a bad thing" because when REPUBLICANS had one-Party control, it was a disaster.
And as we all know, there's no difference in the two Parties, right? :(
Ask ralphie.
on 'meet the press'....brokaw played the rush l. video showing him saying the powell endorsement was
about race. mccain did NOT like that. brokaw asked him if he believed that. he seem to reluctantly say no
and quickly went into his defense on who is endorsing him. mccain HATEs revealing video. WHY? what he
accuses his opponent of doing he actually does.
Look at Chris Matthews's topic titles. As usual he uses the magical question mark to freely inject spin, but this time it's liberal spin.
His run for Senate has started. He's hoping you'll all forget that he worshipped the feet of pretty much every republican he saw for years and years.
True. Tweety sees politics as a parade of personalities in a popularity contest. Nothing more.
Since when is this ditz considered by anyone to have anything intelligent to say? Glad, for once, I'm not home, but here in CA...
Says she bought her $35 wedding ring herself in Hawaii!! Now isn't wearing it because it "hurts when she shakes hands." It's in Todd's pocket! Probably right next to his balls she cut off...
So what are they serving for supper on the "Straight-Talk Express," Beef Wellington?
)O(
Alpo.
The supper of mountain climbers.
This will be by far the "piece de resistance" for McGrampy if he loses his home state of Arizona! It's happening, folks.....Maybe he'll even be ousted from his Senate seat next time 'round, too?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/26/coul...
I always though the "piece de resistance" was when my little brother wanted the last slice of chocolate cream pie too.
I always thought it was the last girl left drinking at the bar by closing time.
Has Palin made it on to ANY of the Sunday morning talk shows??? Hmmm??? No???
Why not, do you think?
