Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

KT Tunstall--Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

No, no, no, no, these are not the ones for me. I'm looking at the bobblehead parade and I'm wondering how much more decisively Obama would have to have won before David Gregory would stop inviting the non-President of the United States John McCain as a guest. I mean, how many times did Tim Russert have on Al Gore or John Kerry during GWB's terms? It would be one thing if Gregory mentioned the absolute idiocy of bringing Sarah Palin to the national attention, but you know he'd never do that.

Elsewhere along the dial, the prevailing topics are Sonia Sotomayor's upcoming nomination hearings and of course, health care. If you want a good laugh, you may want to check C-Span, where their "Newsmakers" show will highlight two Republican representatives (Burgess-TX, Cassidy-LA), who will map out the Republican health care plans. One would presume it would be a VERY short program: "Privatize! We don't wanna be no socialist country!" Done.

ABC's "This Week" - Sens. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Dan Rather, Joan Biskupic, Helene Cooper, Pete Williams. Topics: How will Sonia Sotomayor change the U.S. Supreme Court if she is confirmed? How has President Obama made himself so effective at absorbing shocks? Will the Republicans support a health care bill with new taxes? YES: 7 NO: 5; Will Republicans unite as a bloc to oppose any health care reform bill? YES: 9 NO: 3.

CNN's "State of the Union/Reliable Sources" - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius; Sens. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., Judd Gregg, R-N.H., Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Kent Conrad, D-N.D.; Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Pa.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - U.S. Secretary of Treasury Tim Geithner on the economic crisis. Did those green shoots we were seeing turn brown? And is Geithner doing enough to fix the problem? Plus, one of the biggest thorns in Prime Minister Putin's side. Obama quietly met with him in Russia this week. You'll hear from the leader of the Russian opposition, Boris Nemtsov.

"Fox News Sunday" - Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and John Cornyn, R-Texas; Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va.

So what's catching your eye this morning?

ng shocks?

Obama is a shock absorber? Looks more like a puppet with a great speech writer.

All these shows feature the same old, same old. Corporate talking points defending teh free market capitalist BS status quo. They're gonna flog the healthcare debate to death until Americans really don't care any more, knowing that what you are going to get, is nowhere near universal healthcare, or socialized medicine. Bombs or healthcare? Bombs win!

Coming up after the commercial: The president and his family take a vacation. Aw, ain't they all so adorable? Oh lookie there! Another great speech on morals and hope and change describing how corrupt yet another nation is. Pot meet kettle.

Who's bigger!

Who's deader?

had best outfits

About fifteen more reasons not to watch any of this silly horse shit on the sunday tveee.
I quit watching the idiot parade in 2003. Sometimes I watch clips of some of it here. But most of it is filled with such ignorance, stupidity, and just out right lies, that I can't even stomach the clips. These people are all paid liars , idiots, and fools! Why would anyone waste their time?
republicanism is a mental illness!

I might watch a little of George Step-on-an-octopus' show. Later we are going out to pick up a few things we need for our upcoming vacation. That sounds like way more fun that cursing at my tv all morning.

Happy Sunday everyone!

If I had to pick, the possibility of watching Pat Leahy hand Sessions (who has been in the news recently for more racists redneck comments) his hat might make for interesting viewing.

Beyond that... ugh!

Just a side observation on the video...

Watching KT pre-record all of the background vocals and rhythm section herself at the start of the video so that they play back in an endless loop while she sings, seems like the perfect metaphor for these Sunday shows recently.

I thought so too.

What could McCain possibly say that would make a damned bit of difference to anyone. I mean seriously, who cares what he thinks about anything? He'll just criticize Obama while he does that stupid grin and laugh of his.

He doesn't represent half his state.

As you would expect, Cornyn starts the Sotomayor debate by pointing to how "Miguel Estrada was blocked by the Democrats 9 times".

...because, listening to Cornyn worry how she'll rule based upon the "better than a while male" comment, you'd think she didn't actually have a RECORD to prove or disprove his theory.

who WAS a trial judge on the bench. Who actually had to make real life decisions.

DiFi's defense: "This was one case out of a thousand."

Not, that Sotomayor was NOT judged to have ruled incorrectly, but that the LAW SHE UPHELD was ruled in violation.

Everyone, PLEASE commit this FACT to memory. As part of a three-judge panel, Judge Sotomayor objectively applied the law in question--as had the lower court, and as had the New Haven promotions panel. They did what the law required of them. If anything, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court legislated from the bench in reinterpreting that law.

Cornyn suggests that Panettta is essentially lying to Congress, claiming that Cheney ordered the CIA to lie to Congress.

Anyone else see a problem with that defense?

Yes, Cornyn accused Panetta of lying about lying.

That's impossible. Panetta is the Director of the CIA, and everyone knows the CIA does not lie, and it's treason to say otherwise.

You watch them so we don't have to. I know it's a dirty job.

On FnS, when asked what Republicans would do differently to revive the economy, (in his best Thurston Howell voice), Cantor says what Republicans WOULDN'T do. The only thing different he says they WOULD do? (Wait for it...)

Tax cuts.

David Gregory should stop inviting McCian on his program. Excpet that David Gregory is an empty suit who doesn't have any control over the content or the integrity of the show. He only does what his masters allow him to do.

If people like Gregory had any morals or values they would stand up against the system to help America build a stonger republic. Except for the narrow few like Klein, Hersh, Palast and, far to few, others like them are willing to pass on the money offered to tow the corporate line and actually do some reporting. Gregory, and I would say most in TV media, is just full of shit and happy to have a job ensuring they would never rock the boat.

..."We're more than just" the morality Party.

When asked by Wallace, "Why not ask them to step down?", Cantor dodges the question and goes on about how there's much more to being a Republican than just dictating morality.

there's much more to being a Republican than just dictating morality.

Since when?

"Practicing what they don't preach."

Whoa!

Ingraham (filling in for Hume), accuses Obama of "willful ignorance" (on the economy).

Hello? Was she alive for the past eight years?

The FnS "Power Panel" got more animated than I've heard them in years, with (primarily) Kristol and Williams in a borderline shouting match over the effectiveness of using "tax cuts to stimulate the economy".

Williams: "We tried that!"

You always hear the complaints on the cmsm that the "media's too liberal", they'll tell you that with no fear. They'll never tell you the truth, that the media is too corporate and the United States' foreign policy is based on making the world a more corporate friendly place for us, even if that means people dying and us butting our noses in where they don't belong. Basic respect, that concept flys over the head of most American idiots in large part no thanks to the boob tube.

The only thing catching my eye is the liberal blogosphere.

Wow. just wow.

Ingraham starts the ball rolling by claiming Government Healthcare will limit choices. Williams, the only one on the other side, does a piss-poor job of fighting back.

The argument continues with Ingraham and Kristol insisting government involvement will lead to "rationed care" and "a bureaucrat coming between you and your healthcare."

And naturally, with no real Democrat in sight, those idiot comments are never challenged.

McCain starts by saying he has "NEVER seen such personal attacks" against a sitting politician.

Is it just me, or are these guys more delusional than usual this week?

Addendum: Later, McCain cites "concern over the debt" for Obama's falling poll numbers. When did these guys suddenly become deficit hawks?

They became deficit hawks on November 5, 2008. The day after Obama won.

of Parade Magazine that comes with the Sunday paper. Actually Parade Magazine is more sophisticated.

I did catch McCain's defense of Palin. I mean it was comedy at its best. You couldn't help but laugh at some of his lame defense lines. And he still claims he would pick her again but he balked at endorsing her for 2012. The best line of all was when he said he feels she is capable and qualified to be president. What does that say about him and his views of the office of president?

qualified for it at well. But based on his VP pick, he sure showed a lack of good judgement.

Yeah, I did see McCain's defense of Palin as well. Same old BS he always spews.

Megan has said she won't talk about Palin....I really wish she would because she would likely say something different than what her father says.

and go for a hike somewhere in nature. Or a park where you can see some real trees on display.

ok

Hell the best thing he did for Russia was kick out all the corrupt crooks looting and destroying the country.

Apparently they all fled to the United States.

McCain says that he doesn't believe Obama's plan for a government insurance option will fix the healthcare problem.

"It's the cost (of healthcare) that is the problem."

Hello??? What do he think the offer of public insurance is intended to do?

How they going to pay for all this stuff, Obama already has us $15 Trillion in new debt.

Don't repeat GOP Talking Points to me.

The only ones predicting an eventual $15T debt are Republicans based on Republic predictions of the cost.

Please cite some of those expenses of a Public Insurance option that you believe will drive the debt into the stratosphere? Details please.

Probably better for you since the shock wave might disable you.

Any chance you're a Republican troll? Nah!

I'm wondering how much more decisively Obama would have to have won before David Gregory would stop inviting the non-President of the United States John McCain as a guest.

Maybe all the Dems know what a wanker David G. is and just won't go on his show. Pity. I used to like him as a reporter before he fell in love with GWB. He used to ask some good questions, but that was when Clinton was in office. He's been showing his true colors for awhile.

When arguing against claims Cheney ordered the CIA to lie to Congress, Sessions said that, "according to the one man convicted" (Scooter Libby), if anyone tried to mislead Congress on behalf of Bush/Cheney, "there'd of been Hell to pay." (presumably from Bush/Cheney themselves.)

And we can trust it, because Libby said so.

Hi George, and with me today is the worlds greatest expert on nothing, and countering him today is the worlds greatest expert on nothingness.

Sessions ends the discussion of Sotomayor and the recent Supreme Court reversal by saying "All nine" judges (overruled the decision).

Leahy correctly corrects him, "No, it was 5 to 4."

"All nine", Sessions repeats again.

correct Sessions?

MJ

I cannot believe (or maybe I can) that Howard Kurtz once again brings up the topic of has the media gone overboard with Michael Jackson coverage this past week....he says that they have....just as he did with the same question last week!

Did I go overboard in saying that the media is a bunch of whores who can't free themselves from their corporate pimps? That kind of rhetoric might have been a bit strong. I mean, they're not perfect, but to say they're a bunch of whores who can't free themselves from their corporate pimps is probably over the top. Sure, it's a valid concern, but there are less extreme ways to say that the media is a bunch of whores who can't free themselves from their corporate pimps without joining everyone in repeating the standard "they're a bunch of whores who can't free themselves from their corporate pimps." That almost certainly crosses the line, I think. Maybe.

first, a major BOO - HISS to schieffer for trying to end the segment right after session's bullshit..

and, second, a huge THANK YOU to patrick leahy for getting in a final truthful word in spite of that attempt to stifle.

jeesh... can those guys be any more biased?

when durbin said "is kyle ready to - ", i just knew he was going to finsh with "- give up HIS government health care plan"...

but he went with "end medicare and medicaid"...

well, of course the repugs want to end those programs...

sorry dick. you missed a good one...

Kyl tries to argue that when Leon Panetta said, "the CIA doesn't lie to Congress", he was telling the truth. But when he says "Cheney ordered the CIA to lie to Congress", it's not true.

Uh... yeah.

because what he said was that it's not CIA policy to lie to congress...

except even THAT is hard to swallow... it's what they DO.

joke, heard on stephanie miller, maybe keith o. also:

Why does the CIA lie to Congress?
.
.
.

Practice.

1. The Bush CIA lied to Congress.

2. Pelosi said, "The CIA lied to Congress."

3. Panetta said, "No, we don't do that."

4. Republicans called Pelosi a liar and a traitor and called for her to step down as Speaker.

5. Panetta said, "Oh wait. I looked into it. The CIA DID lie to Congress."

6. Schieffer asked, "Shouldn't Congress investigate this?"

7. Leahy said, "Yes. We have balance of powers in the U.S."

8. Kyl said, "Not so fast. Leon Panetta, the Director of the CIA, also said that the CIA did NOT lie to Congress."

Jon Kly is a LIAR.

Why are both of the Republican Senators from Arizona on the TEEVEE?

There are 100 Senators, although two of them (Byrd & Kennedy) aren't really in good shape right now.

Point taken, however. :D

LOL

Give me a break Andy. I just woke up. You're right, of course. 50 times 2 equals 100. Sheesh. Where is my brain... has anyone seen it?

Sam Donaldson has been a GOP Talking Point Slapping Machine, knocking down TP after TP during the ABC Roundtable.

Wha'happened???
