Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

Sting - If I Ever Lose My Faith In You

Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world

You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV

You could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians

They all seemed like game show hosts to me

If I ever lose my faith in you

There'd be nothing left for me to do

This has been a really dispiriting time for many of us...and the likening of politicians and the bobbleheads to game show hosts is an apt one. Trying to sell us on merchandise by wildly over-inflating its value, even though in reality, it's not something we really wanted in the first place. But they keep telling us how great it is and how lucky we are for having won it. And boy, the White House really is going to play the game show host thing this morning, with adviser David Axelrod on three different shows. He'll be on with Howard Dean on Meet the Press (they've also has made the inspired booking of DailyKos' Markos Moulitsas and Joe Scarborough for the round table), which should make for some interesting fireworks. State of the Union will host some divergent views: NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, McCain Musketeer Lindsay Graham and Andy Stern of the SEIU. And once again, if it's Sunday, it's time for John McCain. Palin's favorite candidate will be on Fox News Sunday, no doubt to clutch pearls over the lack of comity due to that upstart Al Franken, ignoring his own similar unkindness. Consistency and integrity, thy name is never Republican.

ABC's "This Week" - White House senior adviser David Axelrod; Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sens. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, Mary Landrieu, D-La., Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Axelrod; Howard Dean, former national Democratic Party chairman.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Katty Kay, Howard Fineman, John Heilemann, Norah O'Donnell. Topics: Annual Holiday Highlights Show! Greatest Hits and Worst Moves of 2009! The Chutzpah Prize, Cad of the Year, and Who Surprised Us On the Upside?

CNN's "State of the Union" - Axelrod; New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif.; Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - The former scientific brain of Microsoft, Nathan Myhrvold, offers a new approach to solving global warming. Plus, Vali Nasr, advisor to the Obama administration, discusses a new way to fight Islamic terrorism - with capitalism.

CNN's "Amanpour" - Sir Harold Evans and Tina Brown

"Fox News Sunday" - Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

So, what's catching your eye this morning?

Kill the bill.

This is another radical advancement of the corrupt corporatist model of governance.

It is not the largest, which came with the financial Coup d'Etat of September '08.

It won't be the last.

I watch CBS News Sunday Morning and that is it. Why bother with the news programs? I learn nothing. I get mad. I am unemployed for a year and unemployment decided not to pay me anymore without notice because I made $625.00 over the course of the year. So now I am several hundred dollars in deficit and have no cash for my January rent. Isn't that enough aggravation to listen to jerks with jobs play politics with my life. By the way I saw a tweet from McCain's daughter whining because she was home sick and daddy could not come because he had to stay in DC for the stupid HC vote. Where is Malkin to defend her? But I am not bitter, just a bit nervous and worried. Part time job interview tomorrow- four hours a day.

"Isn't that enough aggravation to listen to jerks with jobs play politics with my life."

Absolutely agree with you. I'm as pissed off as you are. I'm sorry about your situation. The middle and lower class are doormats to these assholes. What I wouldn't give to make everyone in the WH and Congress switch places with us. Then they'll truly see how we're struggling. But they don't care. They have too much money to care. The spineless jellyfish who votes for this "reform" bill will be out of the job in the near future.

Good luck on your interview tomorrow.

I've been through that mill. They cannot deny you (depending on state) benefits because you made a little money, UNLESS you did not declare it. Even then, you can state that you did not know that such as small amount needed to be declared. Get a local public interest group lawyer and fight it. Even someone in your local unemployment office might be sympathetic (many are, even under the stress they feel as over worked, under appreciated state employees) and provide valuable advice. Fight for it, don't give up (in other words, don't be a Dem).

Susie's picture

I made 625.00 over the year. So it was $25 here and there... According to the claims benefit online you are asked if you worked a day or made over 405.00 in a week. I responded truthfully the UE clerk said and hour of online research would amount to a day of work. I have to go the office this week since the person assigned to my case is not available via phone or calls back. It is annoying bureaucratic stuff that is ruining my bank account. It is the kind of thing that can get to you, especially when I must pay my rent. My landlord has tried to evict me knowing I am unemployed.
That is my whine for the day. It's Christmas I would rather be doing something else this time of year.

On FnS, McCain repeats the false claim there will be "no benefits" for four years.

admit that he did the same thing back in 2002 that Franken did to LIEberman? Or will he stick with his lie that he's never seen such unprecedented behavior before?

ABC's "This Weak" - White House mouthpiece and back stabber David Axelrod; sellout Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and shit-for-brains comitian Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - needs more attention to deliver nothing Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, corrupt whore and Bush brown noser Mary Landrieu, D-La., is he still in the Senate? shit-for-brains Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and tried more than most of the Dems but still sold out Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - O-Bomb-A excuse maker and liar Axelrod; last Dem with any integrity Howard Dean, former national Democratic Party chairman. Hopefully third party candidate soon, as I will never vote Dem again, and I think many will make that same COMMITMENT.

This should be the one worth watching if I had a TeeVee. Hopefully C&L will link to the whole thing.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - who the hell is Katty Kay, elite media flack Howard Fineman, who the hell is John Heilemann, Moran Norah O'Donnell, Right Wing Airhead. Topics: Annual Holiday Highlights Show! Greatest Hits (Tiger) and Worst Moves (Obama-to the Right) of 2009! The Chutzpah Prize (Dean), Cad of the Year (why Chris himself), and Who Surprised Us On the Upside (the whole Progressive Netroots, by being people of intelligence and integrity, and knowing what Democracy actually means)?

CNN's "State of the Union" - Axelrod, has memorized his lies by now; New York Mayor for Life Michael Bloomberg; California Terminator Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif.; Mealy Mouthed Shit-for-Brains Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; hopefully outraged like us by the Dems total capitulation to their bribers Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - The former scientific brain of Microsoft who must have felt useless there, Nathan Myhrvold, offers a new approach to solving global warming. Plus, Vali Nasr, advisor to the Obama administration, discusses a new way to fight Islamic terrorism - with capitalism, which is itself terrorism--how ironic.

CNN's "Amanpour" - Sir Harold Evans and Tina Brown. Strange mix there.

"Fox News Sunday" - Pres. John McCain, R-Ariz., Kent Conrad, R-N.D., and too smart to do it, but she still sold out Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

McCain claims that Obama has been "more partisan" than any other president since he took office.

Wallace: "More partisan than Bill Clinton?"

I don't remember Clinton being to blame for the attacks against him.

It may be worth seeing Howard Dean and Markos, first time I've heard of a blogger coming on Sunday, on Meet the Press, otherwise it's seems like the same old nauseating rw Sunday morning circus.

Mugsy's picture

With no follow-ups (natch), Wallace actually calls McCain for "flip-flopping", not once, but twice (First, taxing "Cadillac insurance plans", then "closing Gitmo"). Naturally, McCain is allowed to spin his way out without any follow-up questions.

It is better than asking the question during a commercial like McCan't would have wanted and like Billy "The Bloody" wanted.

Liberal AND Proud's picture

I guess this means that the Democratic leadership lied again and won't be "fixing" this bill.

I guess we should send them more money till WE get in line.

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

Kent Conrad tells Wallace that the deal to cover Nebraska's Medicare expenses "forever" in fact "doesn't mean much" because "no Congress can bind any future Congress from repealing an agreement."

But if Dean and Markos are going to be on I might have to make an exception. Although I really hate to give any of them the satisfaction of knowing that I watched! lol

Se. Klobuchar, when asked by Wallace how, "as a pro-choice Liberal Democrat", she could vote for a bill that places such restrictions on abortion in the Senate bill.

Klobuchar says she is "more offended" by the existing system that denies children healthcare due to pre-existing conditions, and bankrupts families.

I wonder how she feels about the mandate that could bankrupt families.

Someone on here last week described the Senate bill as "a Frankenstein of a bill".

When you think of where we (should have) started... simply offering a government-run insurance option... to where we are today with a bill with so many restrictions, limits and compromises... it's not "sausage" we're getting, it's "blood pudding". :(

Why don't our representatives be honest about this and simply come on the tube today and say.."Suck it, bitches."

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

God damn David Gregory. He lets Scarborough ask, "Where has the Obama administration reached out to the right?"
Markos tried to answer and Gregory cut him off and never let him answer the easy question. Gregory is an epoch failure on being fair. He has taken down Meet the Press to the level of Fox New Sunday. I would guess their ratings show this. Gregory is just horrible.

Lindsey Graham on climate change/Copenhagen:

We need to stop importing ole (oil). We need to explore more here.

Sorry Lindsey but there is no more ole to find. We need to find a substitute to ole.
And of course he says that the HC problem is hard but what they just did is wrong but he and his Republican friends who were in power from 1994 till 2006 still offer no solutions (except "don't get sick and if you get sick die fast")

Captain Kangaroo's picture

Isn't it amazing how Repulidicks refer to the CBO for this and that and how nonpartisan it is but when the CBO scores something in the favor of the Demacants the assholes like McCouldn't says that the numbers are gimicks. Here is one thing that McDidn't said and you decide if it makes sense.

In the first ten years the HCR does not kick in for 4 years so of course the savings are skewed. The CBO says it will save $150 billion over that ten years. It also says that in the second ten years it will save $1.3 trillion. Thaat is using it for the intire ten years as opposed to only six years but will save ten times as much money.

Captain Kangaroo's picture

Another example of how disingenuous McDickhead is, he was asked what he thought about Obama giving himself a B+ grade for his first year. McShithead says Obama shouldn't grade himself. As if Obama is going around telling everybody he is getting this grade or that grade. Obama was asked a question and answered it. Maybe McGrandpa should try it once.

I just really like the chord progression in this particular Sting song. I was going to say I liked the tune, but I'm not sure there's much of a tune to it. But it's still a great song.
