How many politicians would walk onto a set of a TV show out of the blue and eviscerate the entire pundit panel? Alan Grayson strolled out onto the stage of CNN's The Situation Room and took on their crew including Blitzer, Carville, Johns and that whack job Alex Castellanos over his remarks about the non-existent GOP health care. He started by saying "they have no plan!" and by not having a plan, they are hurting Americans. Blitzer was so shocked that Grayson actually said something nobody in the media wants to talk about.

Grayson: They just want to stop everything.

Blitzer: Has any Democratic leader asked you to apologize to the republicans.

Grayson: No and you know why? Because I'm saying what everyone else has been thinking, but no one else has been saying.

Blitzer: And so you have no intention of apologizing?

Grayson: Of course not. Apologize? I'm not the one who should be apologizing, they should be apologize to America.

Johns: Wasn't it over the top though? I mean won't you at least admit that?

Grayson: Well, Look I'm 6, 4 so it takes a lot to get over my head.

Castellanos: I'm a republican congressman and I have a question. Which particular Americans do you think I'd like to die? Can you name some?

Listen, Do you want to make sure that people have affordable universal comprehensive health care in this country, do you?

Castellanos:: Yes

Now what have you done about it?

Castellanos: Republicans have a very different approach than the democrats do but it's very concrete. Instead of a big government gamble...

Oh, please...That's amorphous nonsense

Do you really think that Tort reform is going to take care of 47 million people not having....

Borger tries to talk, but Alex cuts her off...

Shopping across state lines..

Oh and you really think that's going to solve

Letting individuals have the same advantages of buying insurances that business have

Grayson: You know, that's just helping the people who give republicans money...Let's concentrate on helping this country, saving lives and saving money and not the usual cliches.

--

Grayson: These are foot dragging, knuckle dragging neanderthals who think they can dictate policy to America by being stubborn and I think the time is over. We had an election, that's it. Now we have to move ahead in just the way the president wants us to.

Goal Thermometer

I couldn't write the entire transcript, but Gloria Borger was so worried that Alan was not being civil to the poor, weak republicans and they would object. He comes right back at her, telling Borger that we are stalled and nothing is happening and he's getting us back on track while people are dying. 44,000 a year are dying; 4000 a month. And these nattering nabobs of negativism are blocking every single thing that we try to do.

And the blogosphere is chiming in and letting the congressman know that we support him.

Johns tries to say he acted like Joe Wilson and he said that he didn't insult the president in front of 40 million people. The panel said that he insulted every republican and he said that republicans are insulting every American during this health care debate.

Some stuff you can't make up!

The panelists live in a comfort zone and Grayson came in and woke them up - a bit - for today.

They seemed a little upset that he was calling out their Republican bed fellows. CNN is going to be toast if they stay tethered to the Republiscum.

chervilant's picture

Here's my letter to Mr. Grayson, in hopes he will continue to advocate for universal health care:

Mr. Grayson:
I want to be the change I hope to see in the world, because I am a 'fix-it' kinda gal After seeing you take on Blitzer and his simpering panel of sycophants, I suspect that you are a kindred spirit, with the courage to undertake true advocacy for your constituents and for our entire nation.

Let me be among the first to suggest the real way that the Angry Group is killing off old people ('Angry Group' is Dana Gould's apt, descriptive phrase for the increasingly vociferous, predominantly right-wing obstructionists being manipulated by the Corporate Megalomaniacs determined to maintain their political power):

I am 53 years old. Because I vehemently refused to sell subprime loans, I had to leave the mortgage industry three years ago. My niece encouraged me to teach (something I'd avoided most of my life, because a) the pay sucks, and b) public education is completely F**D up--and NOT just because of NCLB!). Thus, I found an affordable accelerated program to become a certified teacher.

I have now learned that I chose an accelerated certification program in a district that is so bad, almost every participant in the program leaves the district as soon as they've gotten their certification and/or paid for their program! The big reason for this? Well, most of this district's power positions belong to members of the Angry Group, and their vitriol is sublimely corrosive, as I suspect you already know.

Now, it's a grim fact that this district offers marginal insurance options, requiring high co-pays and deductibles. Thus, in order to get the MRI I need to find out what's causing my chronic back pain, I'd have to scrounge up almost $800 (I daren't even consider what the specialist would charge to 'authorize' such a test--and that's after I pay for the office visit to the doctor who recommends the specialist!). So, I've learned to 'live' with chronic back pain over the past two years, and to avoid any activity that might exacerbate my injury. Do you suspect, as do I, that the Angry Group would assert that I am personally responsible for this situation, and that I should just find a way to pay for the MRI?!?

The principal at my very first post forced me to resign (I was given an amalgamation of reasons, including "you're too intelligent to teach these kids"), and I've not gotten a single positive response to the myriad applications I've submitted over the summer. The people who run the accelerated program have provided almost no support, and now seem complicit in forcing me out of the program (perhaps because I'm a progressive--gasp, choke, shudder!--in the great state of Texas?!). Thus, because I cannot afford to COBRA, I have no health insurance at all. Could this be a part of the Angry Group's agenda?

Now, Mr. Grayson, consider that I'm sitting here blogging because

1) I don't have a new teaching position, or the hope of one. Thus, I've joined the growing crowd of the unemployed/underemployed.

2) I have no means of addressing my chronic back pain so that I can resume power walking to regain my physical fitness. Thus, I've joined the growing crowd of the unhealthily overweight.

3) I can no longer afford to buy the organic foods I used to eat when I was more physically fit, not to mention that I've just learned that Whole Foods will never get my business again (Mr. 'everyone needs to take personal responsibility for their own health' Mackey can kiss my broadening white hiney, and he can look for me in a local picket line in front of one of his stores). Thus, I'm even more definitively a member of the hoi polloi Mr. Mackey so blithely denigrated when he spoke out against health insurance reform.

4) Suicides are up 28% among the chronically out-of-work people who compete in the thousands for every single job opportunity posted (and, I have friends who've articulated this same, horrific level of hopelessness!). Thus, I have the dubious honor of potentially being a member of this particularly scary group.

Have I accurately described the insidious agenda of the Angry Group and their Corporate Puppetmasters? Am I fated to become one of the grannies they hope will succumb to their dastardly plan?

Yes, I struggle daily with ennui and despair, Mr. Grayson. I can most assuredly identify with those poor souls who thought offing themselves was preferable to facing an uncertain future of no employment and almost sure homelessness. And, I can understand the fear and resentment that drives the Angry Group, as misdirected as I think they are.

In view of all that I've posted herein above, I thank the Creator every morning for giving me the strength and joie de vivre that keeps me from joining those poor departed individuals for whom suicide was the only option, or the poor deluded Angry Group whose pathetic wee members eagerly gorge on the bipartisan red herrings promulgated by a handful of corporatists bent on maintaining their exclusive economic hegemony.

Please, Mr. Grayson, offer up a prayer of hope for those of us who are sliding down into the abyss of joblessness, AND PLEASE continue your courageous work on our behalf. Despite what Michelle Malkin asserts, we desperately want to work, and not just because it puts a roof over our heads and food on the table. We The People WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE!!

As for me, I will not go quietly into the night. I walk when I can, I refuse to let this district deter me from getting my teaching certificate, and I will pack up my belongings and live on the streets before I give up! Oh, and I'll continue to advocate for universal health care for all, because We The People can afford this option and We The People deserve it!

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for advocating for universal health care, Mr. Grayson. You give me hope that there are some people in positions of power who want to be the change we hope to see in the world.

Warm regards,

...

So true! Too many of the Angry Group go "deer in the headlights" when an erudite progressive calls them on their bullshit.

Alan Grayson went too far here. He basically lumped ALL Republican House members together. He needs to go back to the floor immediately and apologize to all those Republicans who have demonstrated by their votes that they support real change and reform as it applies to Health Care in this country.

Of course that number is a big fat ZERO!

I hope Grayson keeps it up as his hyperbolic language is the exact mirror image of the Republican verbal attacks but with actual facts. Why aren't most of the remaining parts of the list highlighted?

?

I really intended to highlight 2, 6 and 9 at first, as they related to this story, and got carried away. They're all notable IMO. They're all important to me and are just as important as the rest.

Just a reference thing... Thanks

have been met--especially for the Republicans.

#1--yes--American Exceptionalism anyone?
#3--yes--does this even have to be explained? Why are we in Iraq?
#4--yes, see #3.
#5--yes--Phyllis Schafly--feminism has destroyed America--yes women--wanting equality or not being exploited and abused by men has led to this country's downfall.
#7--yes--illegally spying, Guantanamo, etc.
#11--yes--why is their Fox News and rightwing radio? Why is there very little intellectual prowess on the right? Why do schools cut funding for music & arts first? Why are sports the last extracurricular school activities cut? Why are experts discredited, but any lunatics opinion is valid?
#12--yes--war on drugs, war on crime, war on etc.
#13--yes--good job Brownie and the destruction of New Orleans. Halliburton, Blackwater, etc.

I went to your link and was kind of surprised by your response to #4. Over 50% of our total budget is devoted to military expenditures (paying for past, current and future wars).

http://www.warresisters.org/pages/piechart.htm

Also, a lot of our "aid" is military related (quite a bit of our foreign aid budget is military expenses). Our military related expenses is enormous and we don't even have a debate about it. To even bring up the topic brings discussion that you are anti-American and "hate the troops".

Mr. Grayson goes to Washington.

The best way to show our support of this man is to send him something, ANYTHING to send the message to the rest of congress.

Thank you, Rep. Grayson.

Thank you.

I remember reading about that 700 figure when I was researching the banks, awhile back. I may have even made a note of it here some months ago, I can't recall?

The issue was sorta like... like one of us getting health care, paid sick and personal days and or vacation as an employee benefit; Goldman issued Paulson company stock... lots of it! Unlike his colleague whom said "Show Me The Money" as part of his compensation package, Paulson may just be... a guy who turned his water into wine or the goose that laid the Goldman Golden egg?

I never knew if Hank, cashed in those options before becoming the treasury dude or not? If he didn't, his participation in the bail-out or TARP if you will...would seem like a conflict to me.

By the way, just for shits and giggles(no pun intended), did you ever notice what TARP spells if you spell it backwards?

TARP PRAT
1. The buttocks. :p

The crooks made an ass of us alright. :-/

I believe he was suppose to sell, transfer or liquidate any and all related conflicts prior to going to work for the FED / Treasury? Who knows?

Woooo Hoooo! I love it!

Most excellent. Thanks Congressman! I'll be phoning your office to voice my support!

Senator Alan Grayson has a real nice sound to it. We need to run him against Crist, or should we wait and run him against Nelson? Bill Nelson needs a push, and it might be out the door.

Truth_Critic's picture

...Mr. C-Street, Bill Nelson.

Study the symptoms not the virus...

President Alan Grayson sounds nice, as well.

I love Wolfie's face when he says "You're calling John Boehner a neanderthal???" Priceless.

calgarylady's picture

Very entertaining stuff!

I also liked the part where Castellanos says "There are nutjobs on both sides ... and one of them may be coming to visit", just before Grayson walks on the set and destroys them all.

ps, Joe Johns, get your eyes checked - you clearly have a problem with perception. You are not 6'4". Mr Grayson towers over you. In every way.

I just sent Rep. Grayson's office a thank you e-mail. We should all do the same thing to show our support!

Betty1950's picture

I went to his House website & sent him a Thank You e-mail. I want Rahm, Obama & all of the Rethugs to find out just how many of us support this man.

One of their own says something stupid, like Joe Wilson, and they have to pretend that something entirely unrelated and in a different context is also stupid, the only requirement being that it's said by a Democrat.

i just watched Rachel and she showed several instances of Republicans saying the government wanted to kill old people and other over the top comments -- more over the top than what was said here.

CNN is shocked that a Democrat would speak truth to Republicans!

maybe they could drag all the republicans on to explain their behavior!!!

I couldn't believe the way every one of the 'panelists' lined up against Grayson. With the exception of Carville, who didn't really say much, all the people at the table jumped to the defense of the poor maligned repugs. Who needs more evidence of the death of the traditional fourth estate?

Big-time props to Alan Grayson for taking them ALL on without breaking a sweat. (yeah, I'm talking about you, Wolf-impartial journalist my ass.)

Stolen from the other thread because it is awesome, from now on he should be known as Rep. Alan Grayson, AKC (ass kicking czar).

Agreed. I knew G. Borger was a tool but I had no idea she was THAT big of a tool. It was absolutely jaw dropping when they were spouting on about "death panels" in the same breath they were accusing him of hyperbole. Hello? Is there ANYBODY home? And Wolf, mon dieu, completely ignore the issue while fishing for some "outrage" to be all panty-twisted over.

This is our media. Unbelievable.

baby jesus is watching that clip over and over drinking adult beverages.

This clip reminds me of why I stopped watching that dreadful program the situation room many months ago. The smug arrogance of the disgusting panel calling him a "nutjob" right before he walks on camera and blows them all away with their nonsense. Priceless. I hope this man has a bright future in the Democratic Party.
