Obama hosts White House "happy hour" to persuade wavering lawmakers

Boy, is Barack Obama one smooth politician or what? The NY Post is reporting that the President is having a bipartisan group of House and Senate members over to the White House for a few drinks so that they can talk about the pending stimulus bill. Just like he did in Illinois -- against tougher odds than he faces now -- expect Obama to change at least a few minds.

NY Post:

President Barack Obama has invited Republican and Democratic lawmakers for drinks at the White House as they consider his economic recovery bill that still faces opposition.

White House aides say about two dozen key members of Congress were invited to the Executive Mansion Wednesday evening. The guest list includes six House Democrats, six House Republicans and five senators from each party.

The New York Times has more.

Obama's playin' it cooooool

Finally we have someone who is a cooool customer.

I'm so sick of stupid politicians who just want to posture

Fuck republicans.

Have a party and don't fucking invite them!!!

Oh, don't be so mean. Republicans are okay, you just have to know what kinds of things they'll respond to. To paraphrase Samantha from Sex In The City "Republicans (men) aren't really that complicated. They're kinda like plants."

In the previous post if Obama was playin the repubs smoove like a playa.

I gotta say, I doubt he'll do what I want (Arrest them all, life in prison) But so far he'll looks to be doing good. I'm betting these pampas windbags bend over easy if you work em a little.
They probably go home, laff to their friends how they told that magic negro whats what, but I bet Obama gets his way.

get them drunk

get them in the lincoln bedroom with hookers

take compromising pics

and viola

Almost seems like better than they deserve huh?

the hookers happen to be Larry Craig, Rudy Giuliani, and Ted Haggard. Then it's about right.

Once Rudy gets into the WH, gonna have a helluva time gettin him out. Have to spray, put traps everywhere, etc...

That would be like trying to blackmail dungbeetles by taking pictures of them eating dung.

Smooth move.

Buy into Barack.

Give him what he wants.

Trust him.

Pay your bills.

Save what you can.

Trust in your government.

C'mon, Bush supporters, give the guy a chance!

... to kiss more conservative ass than Bill Clinton did (and look where it got him). I wondered how Obama could end up supporting telecom immunity, no-strings attached billions for the wealthy, and keeping Guantanamo open for another year.

I should have known: lots of booze.

pick 'em off ... and just imagine the gop base learning that their representatives are hanging with the prez at happy hour at the white house.

bwahahahahahahahaha.....

About time to have an adult in the White House that can handle having a beer.

:)

We could all use a beer after living through the last eight years!

isn't partisan. Having said that, what the hell is really going on here? Obama does not need their support for anything, yet is treating them like they are members of his party, and treating his party like they are the Repubs. Something smells really fishy and the next person that says they know what Obama is thinking or doing is gonna make me puke. You don't surround yourself with Republican Lites, vote with Republicans on everything from FISA to the Patriot Act, and then go out of your way to treat them like royalty, when you do not need their votes for anything. This smells like the absolute beginning of the end of the US. Both parties are now one. Congrats America. It'll make it easier to vote.

obama is trying to instill/create less division. the (R) want the division. they are so concerned about the possible identity crisis they may/will experience in the future. he's been in office for a week or so. i'm
sticking with him. i say he is revealing the (R) to the public. the secrecy/slight of hand/signing statements
and ignoring the legislative branch will NO longer work. unlike the bush administration obama will listen to the (R)/opposite party. NOTHING fishy here just change give it a chance.

... that the Republicans have to say that is worth listening to?

maybe not much good point but NOW they can't say we did what bush did. that was to completely ignore the legislative branch/people.

At least he's DOING SOMETHING. He's not a f*cking nitwit jag-off posturing like he's some kind of hot-shit, maverick, go-to guy (Bush). Keep your friend close, but your enemies closer. Thank god none of you guys are in the government, too self-righteous and naive to be able to get anything done.

It's politics guys, Jesus...

There's a person I'd love to have a beer with (though to tell the truth, I would have loved to have a beer with Shrub, but only to tell him what a POS he is).

.

Man oh man, this must really hack the chimp off. He had to go around sneaking his booze like he was back in high school while Obama can hoist one in front of Dog and everybody.

Praise Dog!

I'm not comforted one bit.

First of all...how many people here have the kind of job that you can "drink" while working? ...most of us would get fired...or picked up for DUI on the way home cuz we dont have a govt issue limo w/paid driver

second of all...who is payin' for the corvasier? please tell me the ATF stocks the white house liquor cabinet for free (with confiscated liquor) and the taxpayers dont have to pay for that shit...

...and fuck all those guys for discussing the fate of multiple millions, while under the influence...at a party.

.. it's changed in the almost 35 years since I was in the DC area. But, I bet it hasn't.

I think that whole place runs on alcohol.

A little Canadian beer trivia: years ago there were quart bottles of beer sold here. Then the industry introduced the smaller 'stubby' bottles, which were easier to ship and store.

That idea failed for a number of reasons, the main one being ladies didn't want to 'hold a stubby' in their hands. Hence, the longneck beer bottle.

Old 'Evil Eye' Boner will cast a pall over the festivities, if his on-air alter-ego is anything to judge by. Unless he drinks to the point where he'll loosen up enough for that wooden hanger to fall out of his jacket.
Christ, what an uptight mofo.

cut the list in half.

Why should Obama and the Democrats play nice with the Republics?

People have short memories; for 8 long years, 'Republics' kicked Democrats to the curb and carried out their own agenda. Instead of dealing with real issues, we had special sessions of Congress to intervene in the Terry Shiavo case; debates on gay marriage, and flag burning. Republics drove the country into the ground, and now that Democrats are in control, they want a seat at the table by touting their new 'ideas'. Give me a break.........go sit in the corner and STFU!

I hope that Obama saved some of that special Borgian wine to serve his Republican guests. You start out with a good Barolo and put in some special additives, from a recipe handed down over the centuries, that tend to encourage political cooperation. You have to be careful to keep it only in a non-reactive container after that, but these additives really give the wine a special quality. Every earthly desire finds its end in this wine.

)O(

Will they get special chambered rings as souvenirs?

Now that's what I call reaching across the aisle.

for Obama to say:

"Play ball... or you will NEVER SEE THE INSIDE OF THIS BUILDING AGAIN."

I can't help it - that's the only word that comes to mind.

Pathetic.

Has Obama learned nothing in his dealings with these hypocrites?

Well Obama can't have drinking parties with Middle-Eastern Islamic interests since that would be against Islam,

So instead will they pass around the bong?

I'd suggest tea, though. With some almonds, dates, other nuts or sweets out too.

But, I'm just a redneck who likes red wine instead of beer, so whaddo I know.

)O(

I understand tea houses are THE place to go throughout the Middle-East.

Everyone is criticizing Obama in blogs and other progressive circuits, but the fact is that he may be one of the startest politicians ever. He will get things done. It's not exact science that we have an average of 30% of Americans who are liberals, another 30% who are conservatives and another 40% in the center. Quite honestly, if Bush had nuked their hometown they would still applaud him no matter what. And these are the same morons who believe that Hannity and Limbaugh hold any moral values. Obama should not care about their opinion except that by simply being arrogant against them would alienate people in the center and destroy a lot of hard work done by progressives.

Obama knows better and he has a job to do. PR is part of it.

looks like a pale ale----my favorite.

He has gotten us this far. I will trust him.

he should get them drunk, then tell them all he'll veto any stimulus bill with tax cuts.

President Obama is a good man, he is taking the high road in attempting to work with the republicans. Bush on the other hand would have taken the low; dirt road, got drunk and run over a bunch of democrats, than have Alberto change the law so it was legal.

Sorry I digress:)

MrEthiopian

Obama Play "Dirty" and get real work done, then what we have had for the past 2 years Of "we must take the high road" from most of the democrats. It's hasn't paid off and it will not.

You are going to be drinking a lot more then that if you keep playing these games with the GOP. They owned you mister president; they played you like a Violin.

Maybe you can learn from your mistake. If not and you keep Up this Bipartionship Bull@#*& the whole country is going to pay for it.

.....had a single House Republican voted in favor of the stimulus package. So why did Obama throw family planning under the bus again? Get that bill back in-play.
