Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue? What an elitist!
According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.
The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.
And the McCain camp response?
“The campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent."
Kinda blows John Edwards' $400 haircut out of the water, no? At least Cindy still has her beat.
Our good friend John Aravosis over at AmericaBlog did some research and found that the RNC spent more on clothes in two months for Palin than the average American household spends in 80 years. Out of touch much?
UPDATE: (Nicole) Marc Ambinder reports that Republicans and RNC donors have been emailing him with their disgust of this use of funds. Surely there's a tight down-ticket race or two that could have used that money to buy more ads, something those Republican candidates won't forget if they lose. And will this expenditure be considered taxable income for Palin?

My goodness, these people are excellent shoppers. They dressed a family of 7/8 if you count the redneck boyfriend, for less than Cindy paid for her star trek outfit. If this wasn't related to who will be the next leader of our country I would be getting such a chuckle out of the blatant hypocrisy of McCain & Co. Unfortunately there's nothing funny about it. It's horrifying to think that there are people out there who will actually vote for people who exhibit, at the very least, across-the-board poor judgment. The very real possibility that the election could, once again, be stolen from the rightful winner makes it seem all the more frightening. These people have no right to be governing us. No right.

I saw a clip last night of Palin somewhere. She was walking out with her youngest daughter in front of her. The little girl has her pageant wave down pat. There was a show after the 2004 election commenting on Kerry and Bush's outfits. Sarah Palin is nothing compared with Bush's custom made boots and Kerry's hand painted ties, among other things.
The difference would probably be in the RNC paying for the clothes, not the candidate herself. And despite her Jane 6-Pack image she's got plenty of money to do that.

The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
This is right up there with the $52 K she spent to remodel the Mayor's office in Wasilla and the millions she borrowed to build the indoor hockey rink for her kids to play in.
