FDA Announces New Product Recalls in Peanut Contamination
I just can't get over how well that self-policing policy has worked for our national food supply!
Federal officials have released a tidal wave of fresh recalls in the past 24 hours as they connect the dots in the supply chain of tainted peanut-related products.
The latest recalls by 25 companies listing dozens of items include Walgreen's chocolate candy with peanuts, Best Brands peanut butter cookie dough and Hain Celestial's frozen pad Thai dinners, including one made for Trader Joe's.
On Saturday, Harry and David of Medford joined the recall, pulling Olympia Delight Trail Mix products, and Berkeley, Ca.-based Clif Bar and Co. pulled eight more of its protein bars.
The recall has reached a fever pitch since it was expanded to include all products - from roasted peanuts to peanut butter -- from Peanut Corporation of America's plant at Blakely, Ga., where Food and Drug Administration investigators found two strains of salmonella and evidence that on 12 occasions in 2007 and 2008 the company sold food even after it had tested positive for salmonella.
In a startling revelation on Saturday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution said the president of Peanut Corp., Stewart Parnell, serves on an industry advisory board that helps the U.S. Department of Agriculture set quality standards for peanuts.

I had to stop eating Girl Scout cookies once they cut back on the amount of Girl Scout chunks in them.

They've really cut back in recent years...they're all filler now.
... for a smaller box of cookies this year.

It seems to be working about as well and the self regulating financial sector.
It would be a good idea to toss out every bit of peanut product that may be in your house. Personally I'm getting closer and closer to a beans and rice diet.
At least you're still doing well enough to afford beans and rice, you lucky bastard!

... that the GOP's idea of success is unpotable water, limited electricity, and gunfire zinging through the streets as armed convoys roll by.
Halliburton/KBR, Parsons, Blackwater ... they all get rich, and the Iraqi's get a shithole.
But it's just like an Indiana marketplace during the summer!
... that the GOP wanted marketplaces in Indiana to be more like Iraq!
Remember 'It's a Wonderful Life'? The Republicans want America to be like Pottersville, while the Democrats are trying to bring back Bedford Falls.
They are well on their way. Except we are now more likely to die from the peanut butter than a suicide bomber.
Maybe we need to remember ...

Absolutely no nutritional value...good with an egg stirred in though...and veggies...but by itself....crap.
I'll stick with beans and rice....all essential aminos.
And deelicious with fish...
...when I noticed that dogs wouldn't even eat the leftovers. And I was feeding that to my kids? Not!

Farmer's markets are the best. At the end of the day there will be free food available as those sellers don't like to take produce back with them.
We've just put in a big order for heirloom seeds, and I already have my Mortgage Lifter tomatoes planted. Got any house plants? Then you could be growing your own food, too! http://rareseeds.com Look for container in the descriptions. You'll be pleasantly surprised, you'll be eating something cheap and really good, too, and you can grow organic.

Palm kernel oil, and especially, coconut oil, when not subjected to the industry travesty known as hydrogenation, are important health-protective, even slimming, foods.
I don't buy the industry propaganda telling us butter, animal fat and coconuts are bad, (oh those poor feeble Samoans and Inuits) and that "canola(?!)" oil and margerine are good for us. But I do pay taxes that are consumed by the USDA, so even if I'm not buying, I pay, and again I pay with the health-consequences I may eventually suffer, from a childhood of being fed industry recommended extracted oils over butter.
didn't you here about the beans and rice recall ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Typical for Matt.
remember six months ago he was asking Cramer from cnbc why he couldn't just lie about the economy and say everything was OK. This was during the time that conservatives were saying the press and American whiners were bringing on the recession.
Don't listen to him or that show.
The Republicans have the right idea: if we shut down the FDA, then our food will never have poison in it again!
Also, the FDA interferes with profits, so they are obviously Communists.
folks as regulators who have active financial interests in the industry they're supposed to regulate.
And putting ANY GOPuke in charge of regulating ANYTHING...
... is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Actually, that strategy tends to WORK in the I.T. world (or so my IT guy says...)
Each week at the market, I buy a couple of bags of roasted, no salt, in the shell peanuts. I feed them to the birds and squirrels. Several weeks ago there were no bagged peanuts on the shelf. I asked the man in charge of that dept. why the peanuts were not there. He said someone had found mouse parts in a bag and they had to remove all their bagged peanuts. Just last week did they finally have the bagged peanuts again but they were a different brand.
Now on the heels of that, we hear about the bad peanut products.
Hopefully an Obama administration will get rid of the foxes guarding the chicken houses and instead put a big bad assed chicken in that position.

get bulk peanuts at a local feed store (if you're in a relatively rural area). Much cheaper than grocery store peanuts, and these days, probably safer too.

I'm still waiting to hear the recall on that wonder peanut paste we've been sending to Africa to fight hunger. Do you think we would recall it or just let them chomp away? It is kind of a hard call since it is preventing starvation.

The little one isn't to happy about being cut off of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The FDA will soon be recieving a nasty letter written with crayons.
so is Skippy. they don't get their peanuts from Peanut Corporation of America.
Peter Pan peanut butter is fucked though
For gawds sake! What about REESES?
Maybe the tyke would like a cigarette to go with that hydrogenated oil?
I buy peanut butter at our food coop. They have a hopper that you yourself put peanuts into, so you can see for yourself if there's any 'mouse parts' or metal shards in the peanuts. Then you get to grind it to your exact specifications. Do you like your peanut butter as chunky as rock salt? Or do you like your peanut butter as smooth as a baby's bottom?
The ONLY place I ever get my peanut butter!
ThinkGeek has a home version, though they're currently out of stock.
Concerned Canuck must be a real Canuck. I don't see him commenting on Girl Scout Cookies. They arn't sold in Canada, right? And I would think any grown Canuck's who might have lived in California were probably not into Girl Scout Cookies at the time. I always loved those cookies but we don't even have Peanut Butter in this part of the world. You CAN buy it in some import shops but it costs five Euros for a small jar.

liberal media bias. Don't you know they want the country to be totally nationalized or bankrupt, because it will help them pay their own bills. So they will do ANYTHING to destroy our economy. Obviously this high number of recalls would have led the Bush Administration to conclude that the standards had been set too tight.
Same goes for the FDA overseeing MEDICINES and vaccines.
But I'm sure the FDA have had our best interests in mind when they subvert the grassroots DSHEA at international CODEX Ailimentarius meetings.
With the economy going under, the USA will cave to trade sanctions if they buck harm-onization standards for paltry amounts of vitamins, treated as unsafe industrial toxins.
There has been serious scum in the FDA, for decades.
"GOP peanut products are going fast people! Deregulated to perfection! Bring excitement into your life with the GOP brand of peanuts where there's a chance of death in every bite!"
I thought Bush and Grover strangled that in the bathtub years ago.
Thankfully, I no longer live in the U.S. I recommend everyone who's there consume only unprocessed food from your local organic market.
