Go Home

We already know that Glenn Beck sees the world through his own peculiar filter, but this one really takes the cake. Notice the trembling lip, the catch in his voice. He's so into his vision of himself as the Second Coming. Poor Glenn Beck, the man who's targeted so many liberals that they got death threats and lost their jobs... It wouldn't even occur to him to have an "aha!" moment:

Today on his radio show, Glenn Beck tearfully recounted an incident from Bryant Park last night when he and his wife and daughter turned up to see a showing of the Hitchcock classic The 39 Steps. Apparently some fellow picnickers began harassing the Becks, even at one point "accidentally" kicking a glass of wine onto his wife's back. It sounded genuinely unpleasant and a little scary, though the famously paranoid Beck played up the dramatics in his retelling. "I swear to you I think, if I had suggested, and I almost did, 'Wow, does anybody have a rope? Because there's [a] tree here. You could just lynch me.' And I think there would have been a couple in the crowd that would have," he said. He called Gawker, which ran some user-submitted photos of the Becks, "especially horrible." "They have done everything they can to stalk me and my family," he said. "They’ve put my family in jeopardy in their own home."

Then, for almost ten minutes, Beck went on an extended rant against New Yorkers and the type of twentysomethings that harassed him. "These people were some of the most hateful people I had ever seen," he said. "I was told a lot last night about how New York hates people like me."

"I really feel sorry for you," he continued. "Here you are, 25 years old, and you are so lost and so arrogant and so convinced that you are absolutely 100 percent right. And you are helping craft a system that is fueled by hate. You're being used, and you don't even know it. You're building a system fueled by the very things you say you hate: special interests, the rich, the powerful, global corporations — that’s who's pulling your string."

So that tearful part where he's so worried about leaving his family to the mercy of the horrible crowd? He forgot to mention the bodyguards. Here's a different version from someone who was sitting behind him:

Just a quick FYI -saw your article on Mr. Beck and his numerous FALSE claims about the way that he was treated at Bryant Park last night. Myself and several of my friends were seated immediately behind Mr. Beck & co (have pictures) and I can tell you that while the crowd was certainly not *thrilled* that he had shown up, his family was left completely alone, and for the most part he was too. Conversely, it was his security detail (two body guards) that seemed to be unnecessarily prickly with the crowd, scolding myself and my friends for acrobatics and other harmless activities taking place well before the movie started, and contributing to a considerably less relaxed atmosphere than is typically experienced during BPMN (I've been going for about six years now).

It was my friend that spilled the glass of wine on Tanya -and I can assure you that it was a complete accident. A happy one, to be sure, but nonetheless a complete and utter accident. As soon as the wine spilled (and I question how Tanya became soaked from a half glass of wine) apologies were made and my friends pretty much scrambled to give Tanya & co napkins -no doubt aware that it would look terrible and that their actions could be perceived as purposeful. No words were exchanged after that, as I think that it became pretty clear to Beck & co that my friends and I were doing everything in our capacity to help clean the "mess".

I'm sure it's unnecessary to point out the hypocrisy in Glen's statements that we were being hateful. I can assure him that we don't need his sympathy. Incidentally, none of us have made a career of "spewing hate" on the radio, or any other media platform. We live our lives intolerant only of those who don't tolerate: We have chosen New York as our city for that very reason. We do things like go to Bryant Park Movie Night, and vote to legalize gay marriage. We don't taunt Glen, or his family. And we certainly don't waste our wine, even on Tanya.

Glenn, you're such a liar. I feel sorry for you.

Poor little Glenn. those mean old metrosexual East Coast liberal elitists are so brutally unfair to him. He should move out here to God's country in western Montana. Here in the People's Republic of
Missoula (an island of progressive hate in a sea of red(neck) crazy), we would never spill wine on his wife. We would dump our glass of microbrew over his head, then kick him in the nuts. After which, we would point and laugh.

So he actually went on to describe himself, how weird! Well except the 25 years old part. Multiply that a few times over!

Beck *may* in fact be telling something approaching the truth here.

The woman who says she spilled the wine “accidentally” live-Tweeted the incident. First, she mentioned she was near Beck, and was quite repulsed. One of her friends asked if she could “accidentally” spill something on him.

And then, in an astonishing coincidence, she did.

Funny how things like that work out, huh?

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/woman-seated-...

Hardly conclusive, but certainly strongly indicative…

For flips sake, let's stop letting our hatred of Beck and his message make us all so frakking gullible.

LockeNessMonster's picture

And even if the act was purposeful, they helped clean it up, APOLOGIZED, and everything seemed ok. Then Beck makes it sound like they were ready to lynch him.
Who is stretching the truth more?

I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...

There's no doubt Beck is milking the incident for everything he can get out of it. But it really really looks like it was not only not an accident, but also that they've been desperately trying to rewrite history.

It's the sort of story that would benefit from some actual investigation of the alleged facts, and not just assuming that if you're against Beck, then you must be honest and we'll automatically believe everything you say.

*That* was the mistake we made with Weiner, when he started by saying his account was hacked, etc... "Oh he's one of us, so he must be telling the truth".

No.

LockeNessMonster's picture

I thought he was lying through his teeth from the getgo, especially when he wouldn't say the picture was definitely not him. I actually expect both conservative and liberal politicians to lie, and was not surprised in the least when Weiner fessed-up.
Like I said, maybe it was purposeful. But, they helped clean it up and apologized. THREAT OVER. The chick may be a total loser, but that doesn't change the fact that at no time was Beck and his family in any danger. And that's what us gullible people are talking about. Beck crying about being in danger over spilt (accidentially or on purpose) wine while he had two bodyguards there.

I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...

JHoots's picture

I wasn't there, so I don't know what happened. But we on the left can often spin things so that we are so right, and "they" are so wrong. I sure wish Beck would just disappear already, but I say he has the right to sit with his family and watch a movie in a park without being harassed.

to "harrass" people that support the policies of democratically elected officials. Or harrass doctors who are performing procedures totally within the law of the United States. Respecting rights is a two-way street.
But, go to a public place, you can't deny someone's speech. If the wine thing was purposeful, that was wrong. But the people shouting (if that is true) have every, ahem, right to do so.

I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...

I actually hear you. And I did think back to Weiner's case to have second thoughts, just as you say.

I gotta remind myself, however... that's not the way it works. When someone loses all credibility spreading lies and slander, we can't just give that person the benefit of the doubt. Especially when it comes to... and I use the term loosely... "journalists."

If the magazine that prints stories of Bat Boy and "Obama's terminal illness! Last, dying wishes!", I can't just say.. "well, that sounds unbelievable, but that's what I thought about Weiner." (Okay, that may be an exaggeration.)

I think you get my point. Glenn Beck may very well be telling the truth. It might look overwhelmingly like he's telling the truth sometimes. But you can't blame anyone for not believing a serial liar.

...if the follow-up "expose" from The Blaze is to be believed.

Look, I have no sympathy for Glenn Beck, and as far as I'm concerned, he's one of the few human beings that burned his "I get to have a normal life" card, because he preaches and promotes a level of intolerance for the left that has been documented to result in violence against innocent people just trying to live THEIR lives.

But there seems to be evidence that at least one member of the wine-spilling party was tweeting about being near Beck, being a bit of a douche around him and generally acting the fool, only to subsequently play the "What, me douchey" card after the fact. I vaguely remember what it's like to be young and want to ruin the lives, or at least the night, of people I thought deserved to experience some level of inconvenience. I'm not saying I ever did something about it, but if I had, I certainly wouldn't brag about it AND THEN pretend I was an innocent about it, either. And I probably would try not to involve the a-hole's wife and children in it, either.

The wine-spillers pulled a douche move. I've no sympathy for them, though to be sure, I've less sympathy for Beck.

I have no sympathy for Beck. But the wine-spillers were dicks.

I just thought it was ridiculous that C&L took the wine-spillers version of "What, me douchey?" events at face value, when clearly it didn't take much effort to see through their bullsh**.

But you certainly have a good turn of phrase there.

I had a laugh at some of the comments on the website this post links to... A supposed life long Democrat who watches Glenn Beck all of the time and notes that he's not been "crazy" since he got sober. How believable is this person? lol

Given the whole tweet situation it sounds like the younger people in this case might have acted out a bit. But even so, I might make jokes about "oh man, it's ____, that guy, what am I going to do?"... That doesn't mean I'd do anything. I'd still be likely not to. Wine spills sometimes when you're hanging out in the grass.

I think the only story here is that this supposed paragon of virtue allowed himself to be this rattled by, essentially, nothing. He felt like he was being lynched because some people laughed and spilled wine on his wife? He's said and done things to people that are far worse, yet that doesn't seem to bother him in the least.

Hell, he goes after these kids in a way that's quite a bit more insidious, at least in my opinion. The media essentially ran to report what the guy said and only once someone involved read the post were they able to even try to attempt to defend themselves. He knows what he is doing, he knows how to spin this stuff and, predictably, somehow it all winds up going back to some sort of Soro and rich people pull kids strings argument.

And as mentioned, if it was remotely as dangerous as he is claiming how did his security detail do nothing about it at all?

He loves playing the victim to the point that it's hard to believe his side of the story at all. Especially with the levels of hyperbole he uses.
