Travelling on the left side of the road made sense to in the antediluvian world. Since most people are right handed, swordsman figured it was best to keep to the left so their right arm would be closer to their opponent. Also, if you are right handed, if is much easier to mount and dismount a horse from the left side. When dismounting, rather than having to step off and be in the middle of any possible traffic, you were at the side of the road and could walk right into your destination.

Most of the countries that still observe the traffic flow on the left side are those that were once British colonies. The United States first made their shift from the left to the right after the country gained it's independence from England. It is believed that the country did this to shake off the past and distance itself further from British influence.

Boards of Canada are not from Canada, In Canada they drive on the right side of the road. They are from Scotland though where they drive on the left side.
