Boards of Canada is the electronic musical project of two Scottish brothers, Michael and Marcus Sandison. Having known each other for their entire lives, they've had plenty of time to collaborate with one another and develop their musical talents. After joining and leaving several bands and learning how to record their music, they were eventually reduced to a duo, delving into the world of electronic music. Eventually, after a few EP releases and many performances, they attracted the attention of other electronic music artists and labels, culminating with the release of their first studio album in 1998. The rest is history, as the duo would eventually develop their sound in a way that is characterized by analogue production and tedious combinations of samples. This sound stands out as unique amongst those of their contemporaries, utilizing the aforementioned techniques to better understand the not-quite-yet-fully-explored analogue medium in a largely digital world.
