A firefighter dies after being shot in Pulaski, County, Arkansas. Following a substantial snowfall last night, while responding to a call for medical assistance, an innocent firefighter was senselessly shot and killed. Arkansas Online reports:

A firefighter with the East Pulaski volunteer fire department was killed while responding to a patient with a medical issue Friday morning, a spokesman with the sheriff's office said.

The firefighter, whose name was not immediately released, responded to a report on Dortch Loop Road outside North Little Rock around 5 a.m. and was shot, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said.

The firefighter was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock and pronounced dead, Minden said.

Police have a person in custody being questioned by officers, but have not made an arrest, Minden said.

No other details were released. Minden said police were working around a heavy overnight snowfall that brought central Arkansas to a halt Friday morning.

This is simply unfathomably awful, but then again, every senseless, needless gun death in this country is unimaginably tragic.
