A true rock-n-roll soul shuffled off this mortal coil a couple days ago.

Fred Cole formed his first band, the Weeds, in 1964. From there he had the Lollipop Shoppe (best known for the garage punk standard "You Must Be A Witch.") He continue making music that was out of the mainstream fray with his wife Toody through the 1970's up until his death this past week. Their best-known combo, Dead Moon, was formed in 1987. They never fit into any trends but did build quite a group of dedicated friends and fans.

Dead Moon's music captured a spirit that was honest and raw packed with a sheer joy for both loud guitars and ragged ballads. The rock-n-roll world has lost another true original with Fred passing.
