Marcy Wheeler on Hardball

You go girl. Marcy Wheeler joined David Shuster on Hardball and represented the blogosphere on a topic she wrote a book about that's called "Anatomy of Deceit." She told MSNBC that Libby did the bidding of Bush and Cheney and we know that's all too true.

icon Download | play   icon Download | play It's important that we support Marcy. email via Jane:

All too often people unthinkingly link to the AP or the WaPo or the NYT and skip over blogs who are reporting the same thing earlier. Marcy knows more about the CIA leak case than anyone (even Joe Wilson will tell you that) but getting her voice on TV to talk about it when all they want are beltway bloviators talking about "poor Scooter" has been hard as hell

I wish she wouldn't have bought into the "it's a complex issue" bit, though. It's simple--guy lied under oath, which made it difficult to get to the truth to prosecute the underlying crime. Done.

Libby's Pardon: Fly the Disgraced Red White and Blue at Half Mast this 4th
.
Dick Cheney and George Bush are a disgrace to our country. They are skillful liars as are all psychopaths. In fact lack of concern for community or democratic values as in putting oneself above the law combined with habitual lying defines psychopathy. It defines Cheney and Bush.
I personally don't think Scooter is a psychopath on the order of Cheney and Bush. I believe he lived in an environment where lying and duplicity were practiced daily on the most egregious levels. Living in this environment day in and day out, he had little practical knowledge or experience that there could or might be even one possible iota of repercussion for bold faced lying. Lacking the snakelike skills of a Cheney or Bush he blew it.
That Scooter, the person, should not have to spend years in prison strikes a sympathetic chord with me.
That Scooter, the representative of an administration that adheres to no moral system in the pursuit of power and economic gain, should avoid justice makes me vomit.
I think we should fly all American flags at half staff this 4th and until these mendacious psychopaths are escorted out of the White House, one way or the other. Better yet perhaps, would be to visit or demonstrate in D.C. and simply leave flags at the White House gates and the Supreme Court building. This, turning in of the flags, will represent that the Red, White and Blue is used only for propaganda by Bush, Cheney and the neocon party and it no longer represents American values. It has been disgraced.

What should be pointed out is that while Bush wasted no time commuting Libby's sentence, when he was governor of Texas he allowed 157 people to be executed on his watch. It should also be remembered that Bush allowed the execution of Carla Faye Tucker who, like Bush, was a born again Christian. Many leaders around the world, including the Pope, beggged Bush to at least commute her sentence but all these pleas fell upon deaf ears. It would seem that if one is poor, indigent, white trash, a minority, then one's chances of receiving mercy from an [alleged] Christian] like our less than enlightened president are nonexistent, especially compared to someone who commits a crime and happens to be rich, white, and a Republican. It is long past the point that television people such as Keith Olbermann, as well as journalists and newspapers around the country, begin to call for Bush and Cheney's impeachment, which is what Olbermann will be doing on Countdown tonight.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Tuesday refused to rule out a pardon for former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby, a day after sparing him from prison in a case that helped seal his Iraq legacy and gave ammunition to Democrats.

In spite of the lunatics at Freeperville who were ranting about Bush not pardoning him immediately, this is the most insidious plan, and sends a message to the rest of the minions who know the evil inside dirt on Lord Cheney:

Stick with us, lie and you will be protected?

Turn on us, and we will kill your children?

Scooters pardon is waiting, he just has to keep his mouth shut till Cheney leaves with his Halliburton Billions..

And, Bush will issue a blanket pardon to THEM ALL on his way out...

It's gonna happen, trust me....

The Bush administration is pushing Congress to require minimum sentences. What they’re trying to do is they're trying to change the law, such that the minimum sentencing requirements are mandatory. So they're saying that you and I, if we’re found guilty of something, are required to fulfill that minimum sentence. Scooter Libby's minimum sentence, according to the guidelines, was thirty months, and George Bush says, no, he doesn’t have to do what you and I would have to do in the same circumstances.

I just want to smack the mealy mouths of those so disgustingly backing this traitor, and the traitors infesting 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

Let's see the Dems call Libby to testify about Cheney's role in Plame's outing

I'd like to see W try to apply "executive privilege" in covering a convicted felon, but if he does, then it's time to zero-out ALL funding for the Executive Branch-Not the agencies, bureaus or departments, just those Presidential and Vice Presidential staff working out of the White House

And to cut off a major loophole, make sure that private donations can't be used to meet those payrolls, if paychecks are issued, let them come out of W's & Cheney's pockets and wallets

While the chief counterargument would be that banning such private donations might be a free-speech violation, since there's nothing in the Constitution addressing such an issue-that I'm aware of, apologies if wrong-and since Congress hasn't spelled out how to address such an issue, this current Supreme Court is of the opinion that for something to be valid, every single "i" must be dotted and "t" crossed

That's exactly why the Court ruled against low-paid health care workers recently, because Congress didn't address those concerns concretely, concerns which the court held allowed those workers to be treated as they were. If the Administration were to actually try and use such private donations, without that ability being spelled out anywhere, this Court would smack them down

This commutation shows that treachery against our Constitution and our intelligence analysts/covert operatives has a thriving community at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and that actually protecting the US public against another terrorist attack on US soil does not factor one bit into the President's or Vice President's decision making, not in the least

But hey, who knows, maybe "commuting" Traitor Libby's sentence will get that US attorney's firing fiasco to go away, or the situation in Iraq to suddenly become much more positive, or get the public to rally around warrantless spying on domestic communications

Let's see if W "has the stomach" to hold a press conference to address why he let Libby off the hook for helping to destroy a career and a vital network of overseas informants and double agents designed to prevent WsMD from falling into the wrong hands

Once again, when W needs to show REAL spine, he instead crumbles completely and decides that "personal accountability" has NO place in his Administration

It's time to get rid of Maria and Patty and the rest of the current Democrats. All they are is enablers. For the last 7 years they have enabled these bums to run roughshod over this country, its people, and the moral standing it supposedly had. These feckless Dems are just a bunch of poseurs. At least Lieberdouche has the aplomb to be honest about it. But the current Dems are as corrupt and as locked into the corporate-lobby lying piece of crap structure we call a government as the thugs currently running the show. Good thing the 2006 elections swung our way!

The middle-class financially carries this country. The issue is: when will they vote in their interest? And if they think their interest lies in buttressing the status quo, personally, I believe they are woefully confused. The good people in this country need to do something besides rant and rave like I am doing. What? Who knows. Giving money to candidates is not the answer. Calling these supposed representatives of ours is not the answer. And keeping inept mouthpieces like Maria and Patty in office is not the answer though it may well be the first step toward doing something.

So everyone make sure you blow a wad of money on gas and fireworks come the 4th. Get on out to Wal-Mart, Sears, Pennys, The Bon, Fred Meyers. Use them credit cards. Start buying Christmas gifts. Since she also told me that she believed that Bush has always told the truth and that no criticism of the government should be allowed during a time of war, I should have realized that attempting to speak to her was like shouting into the wind.

Yeah, know that area..Went to school at Evergreen State the first two years...

A lot of Christian-Wingers down that, Ellen Craswell country, remember her and her wingnut Hubby?

Like I said in the original post, WA state is a weird mixture, Rich Republics in Medina, blazing Socialists on Capital Hill, Young Microsofties in Issaquah....All over the map politically...

And, out in the sticks, the crowd that thinks Jesus is flying out of the clouds tomorrow...

Makes things interesting, I must say...

I don't blame the repugs at all. It's OUR fault. Why are we not out in the streets protesting this government? We get absolutely what we deserve since we put up with it. Our Democratic leaders are wimps and are afraid to take on the repugs. They are afraid to say that Bush should be in jail.

Tell George Bush:
I’m appalled by your actions. No man is above the law.

I just sent in my comment. My only hope, and it isn't much, is that now George's approval rating will go below 20% making him the most hated president in history. Generation after generation will at least learn that we hated him and DID NOT APPROVE of his horrible behavior and disregard of our nation's laws. I'd rather see him impeached, but I just don't see enough outrage coming from Congress.

It's time to get rid of Maria and Patty and the rest of the current Democrats.

I'm sort of concentrating on getting rid of the Republics first?

The Democrats always seem to eat their own, while, for better or usually MUCH worse, the Republics rally around the flag when it comes time to vote.....

It's all about money in politics anyway, and that is going NO WHERE for a while. So, if your choice is A Patty Murray or A Jeff Sessions or A Trent Lott...

My letter to the White House:

I am appalled at the President's decision to commute Mr. Libby's sentence.

It reeks of

(1) hypocrisy --witness the new federal sentencing guidelines that will not allow federal judges to have the same power to make judgment calls based upon their perception of individual cases;

(2) elitism--a separate rule of law for the wealthy and powerful;

(3) partisanship--Martha Stewart served time for the very same offense and the President did not commute her sentence (she votes Democratic); and

(4) guilt--it makes one wonder whether or not Mr. Libby knows facts that will embarrass the President and his administration, and this commutation (coupled with fact that Mr. Libby's defense fund will cover all of Mr. Libby's out of pocket costs)

Weaseldog's picture

Obviously its clear now that Paris Hilton's crimes were far worse than Libby's.

Well, we COULD be in Nebraska, and have Ben Nelson?

Or any of the real DINOS out there? Maria pisses me off a lot, and yes, Patty really screwed the pooch on Roberts, but I didn't see ANY Demos really trying to block him..

Bush was riding high, and Roberts was sold as "not a radical" and, if you read the reviews, he actually has pissed off Scalia, cause he is an incrementalist, not a blow em up type like Thomas and Antonin?

So, continue to hold your nose, and vote for them..and just hope we can knock out Riechert or some more Repubs..Of course, he DOES represent Bellevue..Pretty much sez it all!

Keep speaking. The 27 percenters are deluded enough to think they're 90 percenters (or deluded enough to think this "administration's" policies will never have an ill effect on them or theirs). I live in a fairly conservative area but have noticed a BIG dip in the number of people who still display their in-your-face Bush/Cheney (Cheney/Bush?) bumper stickers.

Sadly, a lot of them were just pissed at the Immigration bill?

I think most of them are following the "Clinton did it too" Rush argument here...

They LIKE this pardoning, cause they live in the alternate reality where Fitzy was just a liberal prosecutor and the judges are all liberal activists?

Even though, they were all Republicans, Rush told them so!

Down turn in flag waving came many months before the Immigration bill but I'm sure that helped.
Totally agree about some wanting to live in an alternate reality. They think they're being protected by someone bigger than they are who knows what's good for everyone. Don't have to tax their brain power that way. Won't they be surprised when reality hits them in the face.
Also love that way Clinton gets thrown into the fray every single time. Their marching orders are clearly to use those talking points keep people debating things that have absolutely nothing to do with the current issue. Distract. distract, distract.

What should be pointed out is that while Bush wasted no time commuting Libby's sentence, when he was governor of Texas he allowed 157 people to be executed on his watch. It should also be remembered that Bush allowed the execution of Carla Faye Tucker who, like Bush, was a born again Christian. Many leaders around the world, including the Pope, beggged Bush to at least commute her sentence but all these pleas fell upon deaf ears.[snip].

Thank you for reminding us of this fact.
I remember reading about a reporter covering Bush at the time of the Karla Faye Tucker issue said W was mocking her, "please don't kill me."

Well, all you have to do is go to The Google and type in "please don't kill me" George Bush and voila!
from CNN's website, one of many, the story is that Tucker Carlson, of all people, was the reporter:
"Tucker Carlson of Talk magazine described the smirk Bush wore as he mimicked convicted murderer turned Christian Karla Faye Tucker begging, "Please don't kill me," something she never actually did."

Cheney (with Bush's approval) ordered Libby to expose covert CIA agent Valerie Plame. Libby lied about it to a jury to protect Bush and Cheney. Bush commuted Libby's prison sentence (pardon to follow) to keep Libby silent, protecting the president and VP from charges of treason.

None of this has anything to do with justice or honesty. It's all about covering up massive crimes by Bush and Cheney, including lying to Congress about Iraq, plus treason for deliberately blowing a secret agent's cover.

Bush is actively obstructing justice. Does that really seem complicated?
