Senate Democrats Refuse To Fund Dick Cheney's Office
By Logan Murphy Monday Jul 09, 2007 8:50pmSenate Democrats moved Tuesday to cut off funding for U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's office in a continuing battle over whether he must comply with national security disclosure rules.
A Senate appropriations panel chaired by Democratic Sen. Richard Durbin refused to fund $4.8 million in the vice president's budget until Cheney's office complies with parts of an executive order governing its handling of classified information.
At issue is a requirement that executive branch offices provide data on how much material they classify and declassify. That information is to be provided to the Information Security Oversight Office at The National Archives.
Cheney's office, with backing from the White House, argues that the offices of the president and vice president are exempt from the order because they are not executive branch "agencies." Read more...

DICK HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is nothing but a slap on the wrist. Impeach him!
Progress!
...
Impeachment is a long enough road without having to wait through the pussyfooting around that is going on now...GET THESE CRIMINALS INTO COURT!!!
I mean really. What kind of bullsh*t do the Senators think this is? Dick head makes about that much every month in the private sector (his investment portfolio). Do they really think he'll feel the least be threatened by them cutting off this pocket change?
Dahgrostab'ph-r-i @ 4:
Totally agree. Then into Prison. No chance for Presidential commutations or pardons.
And why they are at it,, make sure to bother his daughter and his grandson too.
far too many ppl who have had a child and are gay are facing more and more regulations? is that word now being used? yes!!!
lets hold the 5 defferments,, used to be a lines man,, and his lesbian novel? writer wife to the spotlight!
i mean its ok for mary,,ahem,, to give birth to a bastard and recieve health care,, but for others,, regardless of race, color or creed and sex or, it just wont work that way. And why is that?
DICK is one sorry ass son of a bitch and his wife,, one sorry ass son of a PME!!!
LET FREEDOM REIN IN ;)~
Well, it's a good first step. Let's get this guy impeached!
GB, Dick Cheney may make that money, but his staff doesn't.
We're not talking about garnishing his wages...we're talking about defunding his offices--that's staff.
GB @ 5:
Can any elected official finance his own office? I'm thinking there may be a restriction against that. Don't really know. Just wondering out loud...
This guy does nothing anyway. Why waste money on a Rich man's office? He should fund his own crap. Isn't that the "neocon" method of government spending?
Save us a buck, will ya Dick?
Just put that sorry SOB out to pasture!!!!!!
hes like a swayback,, only most work. with ´´dick´´ hes running the pony show and makes sure his hoofs get to trample the new shit piles laid down,, after his nose digs deep enough, he WILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLBURSSS off and finds new.
Nicole Belle @ 9:
Nicole Belle @ 9:
Yeah, cut off Dick Cheney!
Thing Fish @ 10:
Ahh, since when has a restriction stood in this man's way? Using RNC servers for e-mail IS using private sector funding for his office work.
Smells like a pointless stunt to me.
hadenuf @ 14:
Totally. trying to placate their constituencies.

It sounds good, but I seriously doubt that Democrats will get the votes to do anything to the Bush administration in terms of protecting the Constitution and the American people.
yanno,, if he ends up dead with another magic bullet line,, then i will agree to what happend to JFK!
Another magic bullet theroy can be found here,,, and here,, and here,,,

Impeach the evil bastard already!
He is like a nazi reincarnated.
Impeach. Indict. Imprison.
...
He can't pay his staffers now. It would be illegal to do government work (keep working) and not get paid for it I think...since it isn't sanctioned. I don't think Cheney could personally fund it either, as that would constitute bribing public officials. This might actually do something...
Dahgrostab'ph-r-i @ 4:
ok but first we need to impeach a few of those neocons in the supreme court.
He makes Himmler look like the fucking tooth fairy,,
oh wait,,,never mind.
No one's impressed. Cosmetic feel good bs.
HA!
He'll just get the office funded privately and that will be the first stages of privatizing the Executive Branch. The Republicans will control it forever that way.
I wish the Dems in Congress were so cowardly.
It's the democratic equivalent of Freedom Fries. Or Liberty Cabbage.
The DickMaster will just grow to 40 meters tall, his horns will sprout, and he'll leave a path of death as destruction as he fumes down 14th Street to the Treasury, vaporizes the walls, and sucks (with his only mighty noodly appendage) the last vestiges of our wealth into the service of the even greater beast he serves, the mighty HalliCorpPlex Empire.
Or we could just demand that he be handcuffed....
It's a pretty sad day for America when the only way to get the Vice President to OBEY THE LAW is to cut off the salaries of his staff. Not that the salary matters much to Dick, since it's just lunch money. Now, if Haliburton threatens to cut him off...
The Congress should give Cheney a mop and tell him to start cleaning the White House and Capitol bathrooms, since they have no idea where else to put him since he "doesn't belong in" the Legislative nor Executive Branches.
No Big Deal-- No Big Loss ! Halliburton,Blackwater,Kellogg Brown and Root are all already funding Cheney's office.
Dave @ 21:
Oh God, I hadn't even thought of that yet! We'll I say we scrap the whole bunch...repugs and dems alike and start fresh!
I hope the democrats also trip him as he's coming down the stairs tomorrow in addition to taking his office's money away.
And poor Cheney secretary! What will she do without an income or the brains one needs to work anywhere else? Being a brainwashed dumbass only works in Cheney's office. It's going to be tough for her to find a job.
AConfederacyofDunces @ 3:
I agree. It's better than what I EXPECTED Congress to do. I expected them to send a bill to Bush, saying that the Vice President is required by law to obey the law, and then tell Bush that he can sign the bill with signing authority so that he doesn't actually have to obey it. Now THAT would be the Democratic way.
Pericles @ 27:
You are brilliant. Put Halliburton under investigation and freeze all their assets. They have been overcharging for support, charging for unmet deliveries, war profiteering and were busted selling stuff to the Iranians during an embargo. Nail them and anybody who is Dick's gravy train.
Whew. For a second, I thought I saw the headline, "Senate Democrats refuse to fuck Dick Cheney".
*shivers*
Vice President Cheney should throw the gauntlet back at their sniveling faces by appropriating the necessary funds, using the legislative functions of the Vice Presidency.
dick.
suck it!
GB @ 6:
Also, confiscate all of their ill gotten gains and take away all government pensions.
Cutting funding is the right thing to do: OVP-EOP-WH-DOJ appear to be engaged in obstruction of justice: Dubious claims to dissuade witnesses from cooperating with Congress.
This is the guy that must have all tv's set to fox .
So looky what I found;

IMPEACH!
#34 Whew. For a second, I thought I saw the headline, “Senate Democrats refuse to fuck Dick Cheney”.
Wine shoots out nose!
Plus, would they really refuse??
Cutting off something IS headed the right direction. Funding ain't it though. It seems our elected Reps. don't quite get what we've been telling them for years yet.
*sound of white satin glove across face*
*snarling from vp office*
*sounds of laughter from anxious free people of america*
maybe this will be a true beginning of the end for these clowns
Good move by Durbin and company. Cheney bought a 2.6 million dollar vacation home in Maryland while soldier's families are on food stamps. Starve his disinfo spewing office
hadenuf @ 41:
*juice spray*

Now I gotta wipe my workplace down.
Thanks a lot!

After his impeachment, chk into that Wellstone "crash".
all right middle america. some day you will wake up and see this asshole for what he really is: a crook. he took the american people for their money and their lack of intellect. he played you well. he will leave laughing probably with a final FU and the finger. he's that kind of guy. middle america, you've been duped. these guy aren't the sharpest knives in the set, they are the most dishonest and they're banking on your ignorance. why not, you've bought everything they're selling up to now and you're still defending them. dumb f..ks.
Yeah! Grow some 'nads Dems! Yeah!
Cheney should be imprisoned in solitary confinement at Guantanamo Bay right before they shut it down and lock the doors behind them.
i always wondered how such poor examples of humanity in the middle ages could have been given such high posts as arch bishop or pope or... but with those who occupy the oval office today there is no wonderment any longer. all it takes is for good men to stand aside and do nothing.
hey, maybe it won't mean much, but it sure made my night!
if cheney wants office supplies let him buy his own crayons.
If this pans out and the dems sack up, who knows? it might be a good day.
We all know if it comes to a legal showdown, his court will rule in his favor. Certainly, another duck hunting trip with Scalia isn't needed, now that they've secured their toady majority.
For all those talking about impeachment, I refer you to the post earlier - the one talking about needing 60 votes in the Senate (for impeachment, it's 67).
Now that's out of the way, Dick Cheney should be tarred & feathered and run back to Wyoming!
GonzoD @ 59:
And goes for that mouthy fucking wife of his too!
BEAUTIFUL
Republicanasswipe!
Take your blood money Dick.
The American people are abouit to send Louis Heyward and Alan Hale Sr.
in to take you out and there will be no tears shead.
Eat it chickenhawk.
HAHHAA Great cut funding I love it!!! Hey Dick!
Haha. Defund the Dick. I just love hearin' that. Too bad it ain't gonna happen cuz all the Senate Repugs are gonna label it "political theatre" and get it shot down again. But oh well, it's ain't bad to hope.
The Champ is out.
right frickin' on!!! I'm totally disgusted and repulsed by this prick!
I love that someone is standing up to this wiener.
Cut of funding, are they kidding me, just arrest the muthafukca for all the war profiteering crimes he is committing.
well, it aint much but it's something. maybe the start of some gonad growth.
.
Refusing to fund the Office of the Vice President...
Because he insists on being above the law...
And distancing and disgracing the Office farther...
So why is he still in that Office?
And WHOM do we blame for that?
.
It's too bad they cant move his office to the lavatory or the head. . .
This is getting insane - simply insane - DC has an alternate reality. Can the 50 states succeed?
Max-1 @ 69:
I've heard Rumsfeld still has an office in the Pentagon. I wonder where those funds are coming from and how they justify it.
*
cut the dick off.
They need to refuse to fund all of Bushes cabnet members. They are not doing the jobs we pay them to do so we should not be obligated to pay for services these folks make up as they go.
They are not following any laws of this land so we have the right to discontinue to pay all of them.
They do only what Bush tells them to do so let him pay for that crap and stay out of our pockets.
It's actually a pretty powerful measure. The Congressis where the funding comes from, and since the White House has made such a humongous point of protecting the perquisites of that branch of Government, it seems singularly appropriate for the Congress to remind the members of the criminal enterprise at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave that that Big white dome on the hill has its own powers.
Didn't this happen in England during the Stuarts--not exactly the same, obvously, but as I recall, James and Parliament had a feud and it caused him no end of trouble because even though he was king, he had no power to impose taxes.
I'm smiling RIGHT......NOW!
Why don't they just arrest that thug?
Maybe it's time to invite Al Kayda for a republiCON party in washington to have the terrist (bu$h speak for terrorist) predictions come true and rid DC of these crooks and liers.
Then put someone in office who is for the USA and it's people.
[Deleted-Sitemonitor]
[...] h/t Crooks and Liars [...]
chinless will get his funding from Halliburton's petty cash.
I wonder if tom knows about this?
Reality Check:
I do not understand why the Democrats are taking this approach. By cutting of the The Funding for the Executive Branch funds for the Office of the Vice President, aren't they actually saying that Cheney is correct, when he claims that he is not a part of the Executive Branch. Very strange. If he is wrong, and I think that he is, why on earth would you do something that affirms that he must be right.
...
If Cheney's office is not part of the Executive Branch, then it has no Executive privilege.
If it has no privilege, then Congress can get on with many investigations that his office has refused to cooperate in. He has no protection anymore.
By defunding his office because they are pretending to buy into Cheney's excuse, the Dems have made a neat end-run around Cheney, they can now nail his ass on several important items.
I say it's FABULOUS!
And if you're worried about precedents being set, we can fix it later, lord knows there is plenty that will need it.
Love the picture
He doesn't even try not to look evil
It must come natural to him

Our congress at work at last...about time! Stand up for the betterment of the people!
snapplethorpe @ 50:
also, John-John Kennedy
The Democrats grew some balls??? Thats suspect.
Senate Democrates are communist trying to control everything with money
Karma is a bitch, and with all of Dick's heart attacks, we would have to speculate if they are a punishment for his crimes against humanity.
