Dodd answers the questions that <i>should</i> be asked
By Nicole Belle Sunday Jul 22, 2007 7:16pm
I think the Dodd campaign anticipated that the top tier candidates would suck up most of the oxygen from the debate, so he took the time to answer the four questions listed as favorites on Community Counts, a site that's allowed visitors to vote on which questions the Presidential candidates should be asked:
On impeachment of GW Bush;Necessary to thwart future abuses?
What about the non religious voters?
Presidential Debate Question - Fuel Problem
What will YOU do to protect independent voices in the media?

Dodd is reasonable, serious and well qualified, as is Bill Richardson. Both Dodd and Richardson are more qualified than Obama.
I really wish Dodd had a chance in Hell, since he really comes off as the best man for the job. Then again the most qualified are usually the least likely to get the job. Look at Washington right now, I rest my case.
Despite the record low approval ratings, President Bush and his administration are still arrogant and blinded by the Iraq War. The people of this country are fed up with Bush’s senseless war and the lack of domestic policies. There are much more important issues in this world that the US should be taking part in, such as global poverty. According to the Borgen Project, whose goal is to fight global poverty, US is one of the nations pledged in the Millennium Development Project. MDP is aimed at eliminating world poverty in half by the year 2015. However, this country has done anything but reducing poverty. The war on “terror” has created more poverty, more hunger and more violence within Iraq and the United States. It is time for this country’s president to rethink the direction where this great nation is going. Perhaps the second lowest approval rating since Watergate will be a wake up call to President Bush.
My prediction, (and I have never been wrong regarding elections, ever), Dodd will never be elected president. Niether will Obama, Biden, Gravel or Richardson.
I don't know about Hillary, I just know I won't vote for her because she sounds way to republican for me. She even uses some of the sound bites like "way forward".
I prefer Dennis Kucinich may be Edwards. But I will Not vote for Hillary just because she picks Edwards for the Vice President running mate.
($9 minimum wage by 2012?, how about next friggen week damnit!)
tbhull @ 2:
They are both highly qualified, you're correct. Without a doubt, the top two in the field.
Another triangulator.
Anderson Cooper's stupid question, "how many of you came here in a jet?" was very childish and was meant to make Cooper look smart at the expense of the candidates.
They have not invented the Hybred Jet yet dumbass. So stick you question where the sun don't shine little man.
Uh, Senator Dobbs! Senator Dobbs!
Yeah! What do you plan to do to stop FASCIST TAKEOVER of our country?
Funny how the most burning question of all doesn't get asked OR answered.
RobertD @ 6:
Count me in as agreeing with your opinion, as well. I would like to add, of all the candidates, I am most favorable toward Richardson at this stage of the election campaign.
So, impeachment is off the table because of politics, the very thing that is there to protect honest and ethical politics. I fear that if impeachment is not started that the next 18 months of Bush will be exponentially worse and maybe fatal for America as we know it. I hope I'm wrong.
Ho Ho Ho, look at fat boy Richardson talking about healthcare prevention by cutting out junk food in schools. WTF?
All the "prevention" in the world will never set aside the absolute need for full Socialized Medicine. Anything less is simply a inexcusable.

and help bring the troops home
Uh oh, Ricardson is an NRA Wing Nut. Thats it for you bub.
...and if we let Bush and his idiot administration continue to self destruct over the next 18 months, we will be assured of taking back the White House.
The only thing we haven't figured out yet, is how the hell we're going to prove to the American people that we have any balls when this president orchestrates another 911 and claims that the Republicans are the only party that can protect them by invoking a new executive order and assuming total power.
It's the only way to rebuild the dismal Republican party.
I guess we're hoping that ain't gonna happen.
I don't get his answer regarding impeachment. That seems to be the party line and it STINKS OUT-LOAD. Totally disingenuous, it sounds like he's talking to one of his children and shading bad news.
The democratic leaders have to wake up and impeach now. It is not impossible to impeach and address the country's business. This is the country's business.
Obama and Richardson, or vice versa.
That is what I'm looking for.
NO!
Say NO to Impeachment!
I don't believe the President and Vice President should be Impeached!
They should be ARRESTED and charged forthwith with Crimes Against Humanity! With ALL their money and possessions seized and used by an independent charity to pay for the damage that they have done to Iraq, it's infrastructure and the Millions of innocent Iraqis who have lost all beccause of a few greedy and evil men.
Also, I believe that the politicians responsible for this war should have to fit the bill for ongoing medical expenses, for all and any Soldiers who have fought in Iraq.
I would love to see the look on Cheney's face when his money...all of it, goes into building new homes for family's that have lost theirs in Iraq.
I know it ain't gunna happen but ... Oh well...we can dream can't we?
In the least, questions in the Presidential debate regardin' impeachment are moot, at worst, demagogic.
Look at who was on the stage tonight: one candidate who could vote to impeach(Kucinich), four who could vote to convict (Dodd, Biden, Clinton and Obama) and three(Gravel, Richardson and Edwards) who, unless appointed to the Senate or winner in a special election to fill a seat in the house, can do nothin' but talk about it!
I've got no doubt in my mind- none!- that all of the candidates do, like you or I, support the impeachment and conviction of Bushco. Hell, I wanna see Stupor Mundi & Darth Pall shackled in the sub-basement of some Super-Duper Max prison, forced to live on nothin' but Twinkies and Mountain Dew while listenin' to an endless loop of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' with the volume cranked to 11!
But, guess what? I won't get my way, either, because even if they're impeached and convicted, the sentence would be that they don't get to hold their office any more! That's it!
If Bush and Cheney are not impeached then the only oath taken by elected representatives of the American government means nothing and the republic has ended. The precedent of monarchical executive power will have been established, and it can then only be deduced that the democrats hope to eventually exercise the same one party rule that the republicans have exercised since 2000. It must be made perfectly clear to these democrats that failure to due their constitutional duty in this matter and bring articles of impeachment is an act of treason equivalent to that committed by the White House. This is the urgent matter upon which all other urgent matters depend.
any presidential candidates who advocate that IMPEACHMENT would only distract is dead wrong. Presidential Candidates know exactly what they are doing. THEY WANT THIS EXPANDED PRESIDENTIAL POWER that they will inherit from the BUSH PRESIDENCY.
This MUST be STOPPED before the next President is put in POWER (regardless of political party). The STAKE is GREAT. AND these presidential candidates KNOW IT. If AMERICA does not protect the balance of power between the three branch of government. AT the END, AMERICA would have given up their RIGHTS and our DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM.
WE the PEOPLE are loosing our rights as the Presidential power is expanded each Presidential term. The government is becoming more and more powerful over it's people.
So because of impeachment proceedings it would be impossible to end the war in Iraq? How about impeaching so that we can finally get the attention of this administration? Thinking that somehow this administration, led by a narcissistic psychopathic deviate (look is up in DSMIII), is going to change course is downright foolish and ignores the history of the past 6 1/2 years, and thinking that somehow the Republican obstructionists are going to play along is naive. Start cleaning house, and in a month we'll have a much more workable situation.
You've been betrayed. Dodd is a Fascist c*nt.
I would be interested in hearing Dodd's commentary not on just the questions, but the discussion of his responses.
Basically it seems to me he said impeachment is out of the question because he has more important things on his agenda. Typical of the Dems in general. If he really wants to end the war, impeach Bush and Cheney already! I am so frightened of the future when the next President who wants to play dictator comes into power and starts out from the precedents the Dems are allowing Bush Cheney set. The Democrats will be every bit as complicit and responsible as the Republicans for this future nightmare. Meanwhile Feingold recommends a slap on the wrist for "assault on the Constitution." The Constitution provides a clear remedy when rule of law is threatened by arrogant disregard: IMPEACHMENT.
How can the same state that elects Chris Dodd to the senate elect Joe Lieberman to the senate, and how can the same state that elects Jessie Helms to the senate can elect John Edwards to the senate?
You see...I'm on a different side of the Executive Power and Privilege debate. I think we should let Bush do whatever he wants, take notes, and when a Democrat gets into the White House do the same damn thing to the Republicans. That's the only way to balance power. If we keep whining about Bush's power...it ain't going to change it and then they will cite our whining when it comes time to bust their heads open. And I want to bust their heads open.
Well, I don't care to hear what Dodd has to say beyond the first impeachment question because it is so important that it frosts me that he just doesn't get the point at all. These people who have taken over our nation UNLAWFULLY and perpetrated heinous criminal acts ongoing, on a daily basis, have constituted a criminal organization the likes of that which the Mafia would have cried to be part of. This is the biggest MAFIA ever to operate in America.
It is UNTHINKABLE that they would be allowed to LEAVE OFFICE ONCE AGAIN WITHOUT BEING PUNISHED.
THEY HAVE ALL BEEN TO THIS PARTY BEFORE... THEY PERPETRATED THE NIXON DEBACLE FOR STARTERS, THEN THEY TRIED TO MURDER REAGAN... MY GOD THEIR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES ARE SO CLEAR THAT THEY SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE PUBLIC SQUARE FOR PUNISHMENT... THE OLD FASHIONED WAY.
Allowing them to get away with it AGAIN while Dodd works on other things he should have done 20 years ago is no answer. It just shows that there is no justice in the USA. There is one set of laws to control the people and one set of laws to SHEAR THE SHEEP.
OK,
Electability vs Qualified. What does American voters do?
Dodd has more Quals than Edwards and Obama.
Richardson has been governing a state quite well. Among his long resume. And a very very good one I might add. If this was selecting an all around manager, hes probably the best resume.
That's an insult to the mafia.
It'd be nice if some of you could get your head out of the clouds and join us down here in the real world -- Bush will never get impeached.
Even if he did, Senator Dodd nor any of the other candidates for President besides Rep. Kucinich could have anything to do with bringing that to fruition -- impeachment happens after a majority vote in the House. Conviction could occur in the Senate, where I'm sure Senator Dodd would vote the way you'd like him to, but a two-thirds vote is necessary to convict, and again, that would never happen.
The Republicans are the problem. I have never seen a bunch of people more willing to lie and misrepresent. I think the question I disliked the most was the one asking which republican they would choose as a running mate. AS IF we needed more of the criminally insane running this country. I'm done with Republicans. Forever.

On Impeachment:
Then I must also buy the codifying OF the egregious actions made against America, Her Constitution, the American people and the International community as 'run of the mill' behavior by ANY Administration... EVEN YOURS!
I can not endorse that.
.
Defending the Constitution in... January 09?
But not before?
So,
Chris is against supporting and defending the Constitution until he's elected and sworn in?
And pigs fly?
Only when wearing pink lipstick, right?
Is torture an American Principle?
Is the unilateral invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation that posed no imminent threat to the U.S. an American Principle?
Is fraudulently selling that invasion based on KNOWN false evidence, to a Joint Session of Congress (01/28/03) an American Principle?
Is warrentless wiretapping of American citizens an American Principle?
Is the rewritten of National Security Letters so as to cover what was otherwise illegally seized an American Principle?
Is the the politicization of the DoJ an American Principle?
Is indefinite detention of persons suspected and accused but not charged or tried nor found guilty an American Principle?
Is withholding Habeas Corpus Rights from persons suspected and not charged an American Principle?
Is choosing which Treaties and Conventions to follow based on convenience an American Principle?
Is signing unconstitutional bills into Law an American Principle?
Is usurping the co-equal Branches of our Government via signing statements an American Principle?
Is being involved in the outing a covert CIA agent an American Principle?
All this and more done on your watch. And in 2009 you'll act...?
But not now 'cause...?
So why should I believe that in 2009 you'll care, if you don't now?
If I am to buy your argument Senator,
Then I must also buy the codifying OF the egregious actions made against America, Her Constitution, the American people and the International community as 'run of the mill' behavior by ANY Administration... EVEN YOURS!
I can not endorse that.
You're not supporting and defending the Constitution on the U.S.A. when you allow and tolerate the usurpations of the Constitution of the U.S.A. and the Constitutional laws derived therein.

Wess @ 18:
We should trade places in Iraq - bu$h and chain e TO Iraq to fight and TROOPS HOME.
Arguing that impeachment will "slow us down" is asinine! WHAT IS GETTING DONE ANYHOW?!?
It is a cowardly, illogical argument, along with being completely despicable coming from someone claiming to "protect the Constitution." Yeah, right.
The NYT has a great op-ed piece on congressional power and an imperial presidency: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/23/opinion/23mon4.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
NOTHING is getting done in Congress and because of the numbers, NOTHING WILL GET DONE in Congress.
Refusing to consider impeachment - or at a minimum refusing a proper investigation into OBVIOUS illegal activities - is reprehensible and irresponsible.
Totally namby-pamby answer on the "non-religious voters" question. Wow - he "respects the First Amendment"! What a bold stance.
I don't want to hear that Democrats cannot focus both on an impeachment and getting our troops out of Iraq at the same time. The Democrats were elected to do just that. If you can't do what we voted you in to do on our behalf, then you are not doing your job. Step down and let someone who can do this job for us. I would take that job in an instant if I felt that I had a chance of being elected. Get out if you can't. And I even kind of like Dodd.
Rusty Shackleford @ 36:
LOL
But not the Fourth Amendment for sure.
Wess @ 18:
To be able to do what needs to be done and, arrest them for war crimes, NOW, that process MUST begin with an impeachment. It is the only way to remove them from their elected(appointed?) offices. That is the process. Please consider how supporting the process PRESERVES our Democratic Republic... PLEASE.
So Senator Dodd. When do you think is a good and convenient time to enforce the laws of our Constitution, the one about protecting us from abuses of power held in the president's office, abuse carried out in high crimes and misdemeanors, that include lying about...everything, anything...including the reasons for the war in Iraq (thereby making that a war crime), the lying about its costs, the spying on Americans, the lying at the EPA, and on and on....with the effect being that now our nation lives in a constant weakened state of fear, anger, desperation, doubt, leaderless, a pariah in the world, the rampage by this administration through our federal budget turning a $500 million budget surplus when he began as President in 2001 into a $500 million deficit in just 4 short years, the rampant cronyism....This highly visible symbol of reckless disregard for the laws in our country comes only because you and your colleagues (and by default us as citizens) abdicate on your responsibility to perform your role as an equal branch of government. This Administration only takes what you give. Stop. Take back our government. You CAN'T begin to work on these other projects you mention UNTIL you remove this obstacle. And you can't expect the voters, the citizens to trust you until you do.
So Dodd is opposed to impeachment because it will detract from Congress' abilitity to get other things done? Ah-hem, hello Senator Dodd?? Have you been paying attention to how Bush, with each new day, destroys more of our Constitution? Have you been paying attention to how Bush, with each new day, makes the war in Iraq worse? Have you been paying attention to how Bush, with each new day, destroys more of America's good standing with the rest of the world? Have you been paying attention to how Bush, with each new day, drains more and more of our tax dollars and borrows more and more money from countries like China to benefit his friends and special interest?
We need to begin impeachment of Bush and Cheney to stop the hemorraging of our country's assets, our people's lives and loss of respect that our country enjoyed before Bush continued his string of failing at everything he does by first stealing the presidency and then damaging our precious country through his utterly incompetent and short-sighted management.
Robt @ 29:
I think you meant that Dodd has more QUALUDES than Edwards and Obama, right?
