Glenn Greenwald Requests Interview With Gen. Patraeus
If the Non-Partisan, Objective Savior Of Iraq General David Petraeus will grant Hugh Hewitt an interview, why not Glenn?
The Daily Dish: (h/t TP)
There was some controversy triggered when Gen. Petraeus this week gave an exclusive interview to highly partisan, pro-war Republican talk show host and blogger Hugh Hewitt. Concerns were expressed that Gen. Petraeus was submitting to interviews only with those who have a reputation for conducting highly reverent and uncritical interviews with Bush officials and military commanders.
As a fervent supporter of the Bush administration and the Iraq war, Hewitt's questions were, as one would expect, designed to enable Gen. Petraeus to make statements without any questioning or challenge.
As I am much more of a war skeptic than Hewitt, both the questions I would pose and the audience which would be exposed to the interview would be different than the one Gen. Petraeus conducted with Hewitt. It is my sincere hope that Gen. Petraeus, in order to facilitate as honest and robust a public discussion as possible, is willing to discuss the situation in Iraq and the merits of the current strategy with both supporters and critics of the initiative.
I applaud the effort, Glenn, but I think the General forfeited his non-partisan objectivity long ago.

:)
the general probably takes his orders from the white house on who he can talk to.....via Karl Rove.
"Petraeus..."
Wasn't he one of the bad guys from Planet of the Apes...?
Ain't gonna happen.
"Gen. Petraeus was submitting to interviews only with those who have a reputation for conducting highly reverent and uncritical interviews with Bush officials and military commanders"...
I guess that includes NPR? Yes, I guess it does...

Perhaps you're thinking of Dr. Zaius?
"Sure I'll do an interview with you. Here's a list of questions you're allowed to ask me."
The Greenwald/Petraeus interviewwill follow the Stewart/Bush interview, during which Bush confesses, 'I made a mistake, I lied about talking to god'.
Why do I feel the surge is really a prelude to the invasion of Iran? Watch for the manufactured story about a kidnapped soldier or "terrorists" fleeing Iraq into Iran.
Well I guess that General Petraeus/Dr. Zaius is a pussy. And this is the man leading our so-called surge.
Of course. We all knew that the General was a paid Republican shill, so this is no suprise. It just goes to show that there is no part of Government that hasn't been tainted by the wingnuts and it will take years to resolve.
I believe it was in the book, "Fiasco" that it talks about Gen. Petraeus during the earlier years of the war. He was admired because of the way he handled things. He took his men into one town and discovered the money that was to go to pay the city workers was in a flooded part of the city. He helped the city's head honcho get the money so he could pay the workers. He didn't bully the people in the town around, he worked with them to help wherever he could. The people of the town began to trust him and his soldiers. Then for some reason, can't remember why, he and his men were ordered to move to another location.
When he was named to head the "surge" I thought maybe he can do something positive, but I think it was just too late for anyone to save this hell hole we have created. I wonder why he ever said he would head this thing?
I've tried to interview the WH people who go on wingnut radio and they won't do it...
John, they won't do it because they'll be asked the hard questions, the ones they have no honest answers to. Like bush, they want to only speak to friends of their cause.
Of course His Holiness Gen. Betrayus won't talk to anyone on the left.
Why would he want to be interviewed by a dirty fuckin' hippie?
What are you, nuts or sumptin?
Yeah John. You won't lob those softball questions. Shame on you. Hahaha
"I applaud the effort, Glenn, but I think the General forfeited his non-partisan objectivity long ago."
If Petraeus comes back with a bad report...ie: objectivity....The Bush regime will can his ass....ie: force him into retirement....and find a General who will lie to the American people.
Impeach the lying criminal bastards and bring the troops home now!
They can do a practice impeachment drill and get rid of gonzo. After they get the hang of it they can go on to cheney and bush. Sounds like a plan to me.
Go gettum Glen, but methinks you might have as much success interviewing him as my wish to interview Viggo. *sigh*
Don't hold your breath. this will only happen when cheney has time to draft a non-partisan speach for gen. p to speak from.
can't wait until sept. betch gen p will only show on fake news crap.
"I can't seem to find any free time on my schedule"-Gen. Petraeus
It's time to put pressure on the big dogs and get them to do an interview with you. There are important issues the American Public wants answered. That Lindsey Lohan, just who does she think she is?
I know that generals love people kissing their asses, but that isn't the only reason General David Petraeus chose a Bush Toadie and intellectual lightweight to interview him.
General Petraeus is preparing the ground. General David Petraeus is going to lie his ass off when he makes his report (whitewash) about the (lack of) "progress" of the Surge in September, and he needs to start practicing. What better forum than that of a dishonest Repug propagandist who will grovel at his feet and lick his combat boots?
This is inevitable, as General David Petraeus is a hand picked Stooge after a succession of Generals retired (were fired) when their version of events (reality) about Iraq didn't fit the pResident's version (delusional wishful thinking optimism not grounded in reality).
It will amaze me if General David Petraeus' patriotism overcomes his ambition and he tells the unvarnished truth about Iraq. But, hey, maybe his conscience will prevail?
Construction of Flying Monkey Airport is currently under way inside my butt. I predict that when it is completed, Gen Petraeus will do an interview with Glenn Greenwald.
(Sorry, don't mean to piss on the idea; I think it's great. Just wanted to make that gag.)
The Pentagon is still infiltrated with Cheney Apparachiks, no way Greenwald or any "Defeat-a-crat" gets to talk to Da Generals.
Still, I think Petreaus will deliver an honest assement but it's mostly going to say, we need 2-3 more years, and he knows he's not gonna get it.
In Sept, the Republicans start pulling the plug on this war, and start worrying about their backsides in 2008 campaign.
The really sad thing is, all the men and woman that died because, they are too scared to confront the Rabid Right at home, till the give Bush his 'Sept" deadline...
In September the General will say exactly what the President wants him to say.
All hail General Petranus! Ass warrior and leader of the occupiers! Now selling t-shirts: "I spent 1/2 trillion on a war and I didn't even get any lousy oil!".
September? I predict that Petraeus will give an honest assessment of what's going in Iraq.
Okay, I was kidding.
Media Fears
Sunday, on "Meet the Press," Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell set the tone for how far things have went to make Bush's case we need to stay in Iraq. The host, Tim Russert, ask McConnell: "What a difference a year makes. What changed? We were told that the al-Qaeda had been, in many ways, close to being destroyed or dismantled."
In affect, what McConnell is saying not only did the situation change but the history changed with it. Now Al Qaeda was in Iraq before we invaded, or we are being told so. These are all out lies, and this tells me nothing is off limits when it comes to Bush's efforts to stay in Iraq. Nothing.
I knew Al Qaeda in Iraq would be an tool for propaganda that have been in the making for the last 7 month, since the onset of the surge. The media played a critical part in getting Bush's claim out. Today, both, CNN and MSNBC were pounding the pavements trying to get a reading on who is buying this claim we fight Al Qaeda in Iraq. My guess is they are not finished with this claim.
I really get pissed off when the media takes a step back to pretend they are fair and investigative about their claims when they are out there creating the claims. The media's role, for whatever reasons, are suspect and should be looked into. The media is not helping this situation at all.
