The GOP - The Party To Kill For
By Jamie Tuesday Aug 14, 2007 12:45pmIt appears Susan Collins doesn't want to risk having a career ending blooper, like George "Macacca" Allen. One of her supporters posted this today on the Maine Web Report:
Markos Moulitsas’s hate-site The Daily Kos, the foul-mouthed fem-blog FiredogLake, and other ‘netroots’ extremists like MoveOn.org, have become the dominant fundraisers for Tom Allen’s senate campaign. This may be good news for Allen financially, but allowing these fringe fanatics to take over his campaign is creating a political atmosphere that will undoubtedly be rejected by Maine voters come next November.
Tom Allen’s involvement with these groups, particularly his participation in the website The Daily Kos, came onto the radar screen of Maine voters recently, as national media exposed a pattern of hateful, vulgar, and anti-semitic postings on the site. Now Allen’s extremist friends have landed on the ground in Maine, and are engaging in the same childish bullying campaign tactics that made Connecticut voters reject their attempts to unseat Senator Joe Lieberman in 2006.
The comments have been very interesting on MWR, especially this one:
(click the image to go to the actual comment)
Ironically this comment is still published on the site, more than 18 hours after it first appeared. What makes that so interesting is how Daily Kos is attacked in this article for a post which was deleted within minutes after it appeared.
So is it an "extremist" position to take interest in your political party and try to get your people elected, or would it be considered "extremist" to wish for innocent Americans to die in a terrorist attack just so your party could maybe gain support? Perhaps Susan Collins could answer that.
And throw some cash Tom Allen's way if you can...
It really bothers Collins team.

Susan Collins and her mullet need to go down next november. These 80's haircuts are a threat to our national security
In an updated post, Lance states that the comment was planted by kos. Although he provides no proof that it was instigated by kos. However, he does link to LGF for proof of something. Maybe proof that Susan loves neo-nazis? I don't know.
Well, here's YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO THE WARRING CRANKS, IN THE GOP RANKS
"The foul-mouthed fem-blog Firedoglake" sounds so campy it could be out of an early John Waters movie. What a cranky lady that Susan Collins is!
I'm sure the reich-wingers will claim, "you are taking this out of context".
Biggus Diggus @ 4:
She reminds me of a tightly-wound, sexually-repressed, painfully polite school marm from the 40's.
"Now, children, this is such a pleasant, agreeable war. Let's all be nice to the man in the funny jumpsuit and maybe he'll give you some candy!"
Sad thing is Susan Collins is a liberal Republican.
I think Arthur Frain's quote may have been meant to be sarcastic, which just goes to show that sarcasm doesn't work well on the web. There are quotes on the web from someone with the same name that are definitely left-leaning.
Sounds like the desperate Rethugs. throwing their hatred around again to no avail. Maine sees through these mongrel, lying dogs.
Daily Kos a hate site?? Bwahahahahahahaha. Obviously, these idiots haven’t even taken the time to check out the site. The only hate you see on these types of sites stem from the frustration of having to deal with stupid Republicans like Susan Collins. She needs to get in contact with her inner self. Where’s the love, biatch?
Isn't the writer quoting something that a right-wing radio jock said not too long ago? I think that the writer of the comment was refering to that but didn't punctuate or credit the quote correctly. The last line 'sounds like treason to me' makes more sense in that context. I really don't think that the comment writer was making the threat, just pointing out the hateful quote by the radio jock.
Dr. Matt @ 5:
Rwingers ARE out of context, ENTIRELY.
"If we bring on a terrorist attack it's for your own good and you'll turn to us, the ones you need protection FROM."
The hypocracy is nauseating. Any of you every look at the comments on Right-wing sites? Right out of whatever crap Tim McVeigh was reading. Maybe C&L can have the "Right-Wing Hate Comment of The Day?"
Granted, we on the Left should come clean and admit that there are pretty vile things posted at times on Leftist sites. Just goes to show the legacy of Rove and W The Uniter. I try to stay above the fray and avoid personal attacks, but it is tempting. Let's try to keep it clean, and prove what we already know: true hate-speech belongs to the Right.
She's toast: moderate rhetoric and neocon voting record. The blogs have just put truth to her lies.
How come these links aren't working?
[I think the servers might be overloaded. Just a guess though. I can't get through either-Sitemonitor]
I think skinnergy is right. Otherwise, the last sentence about treason makes no sense at all.
Did C&L crash the Maine Web Report?
I've been unable to get a connection. They are probably getting the biggest traffic spike they've ever seen from the link here.
The big problem with Collins' comments is that it is taken directly from the handbook of Bill O'Reilly. It was the Fester's campaign against dKos that started the whole "hate site" nonsense. It's time to put an end to him and his network. I have a way to do it...
Starve The Beast
Dems and progressives MUST swear off of Fox News once and for all.
I looked at this yesterday, and read the comments (and posted one myself supportive of DKos and FDL, demanding links and evidence to back up the assertions). They were overwhelming critical of the MWR post, and I just piled on. There were only a couple in agreement with the post. Right now the site is unavailable, probably gone into meltdown the same way Lieberman's did during the primary--where he accused the Lamont campaign of doing a DOS assault. No doubt MWR will make a similar accusation when it is probably just the result of paying $5 a month, or nothing at all. Sheesh!
Mark @ News Corpse @ 17:
LOL. They'll accuse Tom Allen's campaign of sabotage. Remember Lieberman ?
jr @ 1:
Hey, she gets the SuperCuts special!
Oh, the anti-semitic stuff is old.
The Washington Monthly had a similar series of coordinated attacks by anti-semitic and racist posters who kept spamming the comment threads with the most vile cut-and-paste job you ever saw.
What is it all about? It's about marginalizing every critical voice that exists. This is all coordinated by various right wing groups--right down to making sure the IP addresses can't be tracked and that the attacks are well documented.
When are people going to figure out that you can't attack a blog for what gets posted in the comment threads?
Duh...
The link from the image no longer works. The extremist cowards must
have taken it down.
Don't over-react over this. Frain's post is sarcastic. The right-wing blogs are batshit insane many times, but Crooks and Liars got it wrong this time.
Collins is not right-winger... she's pretty damn mainstream.
If the rest of the repugs were more centrist like her I wouldn't have to vote Democrat by default.
Imagine that... not voting solely based on whether they have a "D" or an "R" after their name...
Good grief. Christian hate mongering at its best.
Mark @ News Corpse @ 17:
Just to share, 3 years ago I realized watching Fox Limb or any other just made my state of mind gloomy, full of rage and helplessness. So I stopped to preserve my good cheer and strength for the sake of my family as well.
A year ago I dumped cable TV altogether and we order movies from Netflix. Even here at C&L I'll skip the latest outrage from FOX because I know all I need to know about their MO: why take one's good energy and waste it since it serves no purpose, unless feeling angry and miserable is one's route to entertainment.
Rather concentrate on undoing the damage if at all possible.
You'd think Reichwingers would know a hate site when they see one (since that's what THEIRS are), but DailyKos?
Fucking idiots.
There is a clearly identifiable strategy by the reich-wing media to demonize the left blogosphere as we head into the elections. They're all working overtime on this. It's because they're deathly afraid of it and the obvious influence it has with the left-leaning electorate.
These internet sites "connect" us. They were able to rob us of a viable connection through the main-stream-media and lo and behold! - the internet comes along to foil their evil plan of dominating every available public discourse. So they are now trying to ruin it by reputation since they haven't been able to come up with a way to take the internet away from us.
Their terminology - "hate-filled site", etc., is simply their trademark modus operandi - similar in nature to others such as "health forests" - "clear skies" - "no child left behind" - all straight from the Nazi playbook.
As is typical of them - their words represent the polar opposite of reality.
*
...last year, George W Bush said, "If you listen closely to some of the leaders of the Democratic Party, it sounds like _ it sounds like -- they think the best way to protect the American people is, wait until we're attacked again."
...so who's leaving these messages?
I go to Newshounds...I need to know what the Fox Oppinion Channel is up to...I have a few friends that won't watch anything else.
And Susan Collins is considered a moderate rethug (sigh)
Dana @ 22:
Seems likely. That would be the most obvious under the circumstances. They are SUCH liars and cowards. Not even willing to take responsibility for the hate-filled masses they foster and cultivate.
*
Par for the course; lie and smear, doesn't matter if it's accurate. The buzz words are very telling. Foul-mouthed extremist fring fanatics. I'm surprised commies wasn't thrown in there, but that was so 80's I guess.
Moveon.org is fringe, fanatical, and extreme?
Let's examine how extreme some of their campaigns are:
Proponent of ending Iraq occupation, opposed to any escalation of this debacle.
Opposes paperless voting.
Supports national healthcare.
Supports proactive global warming remedies.
Yes, so fringe. No americans think the above are good causes.
They despise moveon because it's tactics are very aggressive and overt, not the usual pussyfooting around that conservatives are accustomed to dealing with.
FC @ 19:
Even funnier, Joe was up here stumping for Collins! So see Tom Allen has a motive!!! I have voted for Collins, but her record has only been for us when the vote was a sure thing, any close votes she throws them to GW's side. Snow had a "liberal" record, until she won. Now she has a job for 4 more years so her voting is going GW's way.
I want Tom to stay in the House! We need him there for the impeachment vote!
So is the "fem-blog", one involving a high ratio of women, atest special on the Menace Menu of menaces to society? Did the panic-stricken mention if this assaults marriage between a man and a woman, the children that are the future, the moral values that separate the bumping of gnarlies between the speecies, genders, phyla and especially box turtles ...
I'm sorry, I just can't keep track of all the stuff REAL Real Real America (the shrinking, petrified tiny minority that jumps every time Bill O'REALLY?!??! says "Booo!") has on the terror watch list. You'd think they'd have snapped out of it when Vegetarian Librarian Cat Fanciers made the list. (Surely someone told them the sweetie pies don't privately EAT the cats, right?)
Roket @ 10:
The "hate site" narrative is not intended to reflect what Kos is about...so they have no reason to go there. It is a narrative, a falsehood undergoing the amplification stage at this time. It is intended to cast the light that emanates from most of the Right's sites on one of the kings of the Left, Kos. Its a bit of a worn thread ( create FOX then yell Liberal Media, Wish for the bombing of the NYT or San Fransisco then scream Hate Site at Kos etc..etc..etc) but its an ill wind that blows no good. In order to defend the nut posting on his site, The MaineWebWatch guy resorts to claiming the post a plant, or the work of a saboteur. Finally this concept is emerging and I would bet a pretty big sum it has been the norm for years. How many GOP'ers do you think post on a Lib site just to scream about the post back at LGF or FR? My guess: many. Enough of this crap. The rule should be that a site only be judged by its author's posts and not the nut job's crap in the comments section.
A final point: has anyone noticed the vigor put into the Kos attack of late? He must be striking a nerve with these idiots. In the end it will only attract folks to the site which as anyone familiar with it knows is well written, pointed, often prescient and informative. Kos is a great example of the netroots in action. To be sure, no 28 per-center is going to be won over by Kos but the swing voter, centrist or moderate that visits the site might find something they like. So come on WINGERS...."bring 'em on"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a resident of San Francisco, I'm really sick of people advocating an attack on my city! A FREAKING CITY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! You don't here me hoping that terrorists attack bum-fart middle of nowhere Maine. Sheeshh... must we always play the victim here in the Sucka Free City??
Who else but the residents of Wingnuttia claim that this country "needs another 9/11". These "people" are sick! It's a shame their patron saint Raygun gutted federal fund$ for mental health programs.
This country gets ridiculouser and ridiculouser each and every day!
Tim Verstynen @ 37:
How DARE you want to think for yourself??????
Is Susan Collins any relation to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iETt1rkohMI
It's set in New England too.
These lunatics retard fucks really need an extemely large speed freak to bash their faces in. I really think that it would help the country to televise it as well.
What-da-ya all think, televised neo-con beatings!?!
Biggus Diggus @ 4:
The Foul-Mouthed Fems would be a great name for a girl band.
Someone, quick, call Simon Cowel.
Two points for this thread...
1) There is no reason to presume that the comment was removed just because the link is not presently connecting. The Home Page of the site isn't connecting either.
2) For those who believe that the S.F. comment was snark, remember that the Collins comment re: hate-site , foul-mouthed, extremists, was not snark.
Please resume your disgust.
Seems to be a problem with the site mainewebreport.com
Probably so many of us 'dirty libs' hitting the link that their mickey mouse server can't handle the traffic.
Oh well, I'll just keep clicking it every 30 seconds or so until I either get through my fingers wear out - whichever comes first.
Oh, great. We Mainers love this talk, as you can imagine.
*Guys, PLEASE stop comparing everything to the Nazis and Hitler and the Third Reich. It makes us look childish, it's over dramatic and that we're playing the neocons' game....
Nice city youse gots there. It would be a shame if anything were like to happen to it.
Yellow Elephant Safari @ 42:
That's Courtney Love's next band.

At what point did the Reich wingers decide that they needed to attack us for the very things they are infamous for? Who burns books or rock and roll albums they don't like? Who loves to hate minorities and people that aren't peachy blonde or rich? Who would still have slavery if they could? Hint: its not liberals. Our sides extremists burn hummers, their sides extremists hang blacks. Yeah and we are the villains. LOL.
Freedom of speech is not absolute and even republicans know it.
They know from experience that you can't holler "FIRE" in a crowded men's room stall.
Even if the proposed destruction of SF post was a plant it should have been removed before 18 hours.
In Collin's defense, it is almost impossible to find volunteers to help in the republicans lost cause these days.
It sounds like he put the comment together with bits and pieces of what BillO has been saying lately.
Am I the only one that sees the irony in a post like this one?
Sorry, Sigh, but when Americans of the republican persuasion call for another attack against this country to "bring us together" -- to cower behind the almighty chickenhawks, that's what I call FUCKING IDIOTS.
Dr. Acula @ 38:
Reich-wingnuttia remember how everyone got right in line behind Bush after 9/11 - his poll numbers were amazing - Congress gave him absolutely everything he asked for. It was for them a mini "golden-age." It reaffirmed their misplaced pride in who and what they were and what it represented - POWER AND CONTROL. The two attributes that reicht-wing nuts crave more than any other.
They want it so badly that they can have wet-dreams over the idea of the blood and carnage of fellow Americans amidst horrific violence, pain and suffering. (Then we'll be sorry . . . .)
It's also possible that they're all type-A personalities and that they all drive like kamikaze pilots (just one hand on the wheel of course) and denigrate women as easily as they breath - all to enhance their feelings of masculinity. Absolutely no surprises with these people - we understand them pretty well by now.
*
According to Republican-think, Timothy McVeigh is a great American patriot.
Brad Rousse @ 45:
There are clear parallels. Any informed, critically thinking adult can see them. I don't intend to be intimidated by their alarmist comments into ignoring them. That is helpful to them.
*
"...as national media exposed a pattern of hateful, vulgar, and anti-semitic postings on the (DailyKos) site."
read: "we're far too chickenshit to reference Bill O'Reilly directly, but when bigots give us ammo to use, even if it's blatant disinformation: then hey, we'll take it."
I hear ya, but I just find it odd that we complain about the attackes of folks like Bill-O on KOS and in our complaints we use really nasty, aggressive terminology. I understand the frustration but think the discourse could be held at a higher level.
Brad Rousse @ 45:
Childish? CHILDISH? I'll tell ya what's childish - a sitting president spending more time riding a damned bike and taking naps than he does actually THINKING about all the people he has murdered, ours and theirs. Or, torturing people, just because he can order it. Or, being afraid to speak in public without pre-screening the audience and their questions. Or, having to rely on others for just about everything because he is an IDIOT and does not have an original idea in that PEA BRAIN. Those are a few examples of CHILDISH.
As a matter of fact, this thing called "The Decider" is much WORSE than Hitler. He has his corrupt finger on a weapon that would destroy the planet. (no, not his johnson)
And, if you think it is childish to call the neocons Nazis, you haven't looked REALITY straight in the eye lately.
crazylove @ 26:

Best post I've read here in quite a while. Thanks for sharing. Many would do well to follow your lead.
This "Arthur Frain" is swiping his pseudonym from the semi-obscure (but great) '70s sci-fi/fantasy flick, Zardoz. In it, the chief manipulator and deceiver of the thuggish "brutals" was an immortal named "Arthur Frayn", who masqueraded as the all-knowing god, Zardoz. I think Frain's choice of pseudonym is quite telling and probably very self-referential.
And to clarify my point, witness this satirical dialogue from Zardoz:
Zardoz: The gun is good.
Exterminators: The gun is good.
Zardoz: The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life, and poisons the earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the gun shoots death, and purifies the earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth and kill!
Sound like an ethos the current administration might embrace?
Almost! Here is the Google cache of that page, unfortunately it was cached just 4 minutes before the offending post was made.
Sounds like someone is just asking to be targeted by the 'net-roots'...
So now Susan Collins doesn't like free speech in addition to the fact that she up until recently hung with the dogs of war. Susan, we can't help it if the shoes fit you, you must put them on. Hopefully, we can click the heels together next November and you will go away. What will you do in the next life? Lobby for Dowdy Unlimited?
Fear is the mindkiller...leaving few bright bulbs among the neocon followers...
The comment by this person about another terrorist attack almost sounds like they are being sarcastic... "Sounds like treason" seems to be the catch in this comment. Does the fact of those calling for "another terrorist attack" constitute treason, or do the "dirty libs" part of the comment sound treasonous...? Hard for me to tell.
"Arthur Frain, Portland ME
Aug 14th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
You know what this country needs? Another terrorist attack. Take out SF or some other city full of dirty libs, and then the country will rally behind the GOP for protection."
You need to redo this particular post... The original author of the quoted comment in your post is Arthur Frain no User Loser.
If I were you I'd correct this as User Loser's comment is merely "Sounds like treason to me."
Just letting you know that it is in error...the attribution.
It is kinda funny how the wingnut blogs have comments that would make a psycho blush (even Coulter might blush). But if anyone dares criticize a favorite cow of the wingnut fankids club, why then you have a hate-filled site that just has to be torn down.
Jo @ 58:
And, if you think it is childish to call the neocons Nazis, you haven't looked REALITY straight in the eye lately.
I don't respect your treating me like I have no common sense, Jo. That's not fair to me.
Fingerbo @ 60:
Ding ding ding. We have a winner.
Curious that none of the conservative posters at freerepublic or LGF picked that up. Disturbing that none of them denounced the idea that "we need another 9/11".
I'd check the quotes on IMDB. I think there's one that encapsulates Frain/Frayn's motive in choosing that pseudonym.
dennis @ 59:
.
We stopped watching television altogether over 15 years ago. Haven't missed it for a minute - that was one of the best things we ever did for ourselves. And Corporate America doesn't own our children's souls.
*
So, now bashing the progressive blogs by calling them "hate sites" has caught on in the right wing echo chamber. How long before these distortions make their way into the MSM and become part of our lexicon?
What is even more interesting is that Maine's mainstream media have totally ignored this story BUT were all over the story about Collins being terribly upset that those nasty Democrats had sent a man with a camera to follow her around the state.
As a Maine voter, I have NEVER voted for Collins. She encourages the label "moderate, "but she is a Dubya sycophant. If the Moron-in-Chief stops suddenly, Collins will disappear into a dark and foul place.
CD @ 7:
In the past, Susan fooled Maine voters with her reus of being something other than a right wing Republican. Susan and her lies are now being unmasked for all to see that she is indeed a hard Right Winger.
Her school marm vaudeville act is over!
baylaw73 @ 13:
Yes, and RedState is one of the worst. They've been known to suggest that kidnappers in Iraq hold on to their victims just because the victims are against the "war" on terror.
