Emmy Awards: Sally Field Censored by FOX
By SilentPatriot Sunday Sep 16, 2007 1:38am
At last night's 59th Annual Emmy Awards, Sally Field, who won Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Nora Holden Walker in ABC's "Brothers and Sisters," was censored by FOX as she was about to make a point about the Iraq War.

βSurely this [award] belongs to all the mothers of the world. May they be seen, may their work be valued and raised. Especially to the mothers who stand with an open heart and wait. Wait for their children to come home from danger, from harmβs way, and from war. I am proud to be one of those women. If mothers ruled the world, there would be no....β

Field on being censored by Fox: ''I have no comment other than, 'Oh, well.' I said what I wanted to say.''

First?
Yup, I guess so...
One more reason why all things FOX should be boycotted, including 20th Century FOX and all advetisers on FOX.
Paul @ 3:
It's a shame they house a couple of the greatest shows EVER: Simpsons & Family Guy...
Ironic, it is 11:56pm and I can't get the vid to appear. Any Foxnuts working at C&L undercover ;)
I want to know what we need more of in order to insure there be no more goddamn gods anymore.
I'm not one to defend Fox, or the facists running the network. But this really isn't any different than C&L choosing whom they will censor and whom they won't ... is it? It's privately owned, right?
thats redonkulous!
Fox must be so proud of its work -- I have tried several sites to view the tape and it's as if it never happened.
Fox was just ticked that the Daily Show won another Emmy and all the 1/2 Hour News Hour got was canceled.

PurplePatriot @ 7:
while fox buys the rights to air the telecast, the emmys are owned Academy of Television Arts & Sciences...it is they that make the rules...
usually if a performer goes over their aloted time the band comes up...if inapropriate words are used, that is allowed to be censored (and was during this broadcast)
however, political speech is never censored by the network airing
so fox strikes again...and probably got the emmy's really pissed...which is gonna hurt them next year
as it is, hbo continues to cleanup in the awards...making broadcast tv a total dinosaur
i watched the whole thing and this part that was cut away from was very similar to a couple of other times the camera/sound was cut away at really random times. It didn't seem to be related to what the person was saying at the time- it seemed like they had technical difficulties throughout the show because it always cut away to some strange above-the-room/blocked-by-a-lightball view.
i've no reason to defend FOX; in fact, i wouldn't put it past them to make it *seem* as though they were having difficulties in case they encountered any rhetoric they didn't like. i just thought it noteworthy to point out that what happened during her speech had happened a few times before in the program with no seeming connection to what was being said at the time.
Anyone have a link to the video that works?
You can't say "goddamn" on national television, can you?
DG @ 15:
Yeah...i think it's the "god" part you're not allowed to say.
DG @ 15:
you can say goddamn
you cant say:

Obey.
[...] a nutshell, part 2. September 17th, 2007 — whig Sally Field, via Crooks and Liars, uncensored: “Surely this [award] belongs to all the mothers of the world. May they be seen, [...]
You shouldn't have to listen to Sally Field's political opinions, after all, we have hired professional blow hards to pretend they know what they're talking about.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 17:
"'God damn' is usually seen as more profane than simply "damn", and in present-day radio or television broadcasts, the word "God" is usually censored or blurred, leaving "damn" uncensored. An example of this is with the 2007 Fall Out Boy single, 'This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race"'"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damnation
Zenrage @ 6:
Atheists?
You can't say "God damned", but you certainly can say that if moms ruled "there would be no wars" That is what was censored.
Freedumn, if you don't like her, you don't have to watch her. This is America, remember? Freedom of Speech? Isn't that supposedly one of the rights our brave soldiers are fighting to preserve? If we start censoring ideas, than America is lost.
Kim @ 23:
Actually, the FCC, in its infinite wisdom and stunning capacity to parse the profane from the decent, gives a thumbs up to "god damned."
Why do we have an FCC anyway? What part of "Congress shall pass no law . . . " is so difficult to understand?
A modest proposal: Brush up on your satire.
I am free to say FOX SUX. I am free to exhort you to never watch the channel.
Karen @ 24:
suits are now sitting in federal court brought by the msm challenging the fcc's control over language and content
it is apparent that they have gone over their bounds, and that the congress has overstepped by charging extraordinary fines
the prob is, im worried what will happen when these suits reach the supremes
you know what is really obscene?? during the past few years, the fcc and congress have allowed a few to control most of the media outlets in this country....something that the fcc was formed to protect against
we are one step away from becoming the new soviet union
When the courts tossed out some FCC fines against Fox on some indecency rulings, here was Fox's reaction afterwards:
Bunch of hypocrites, but we already knew that.
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6448861.html
Sally Field, Ted Turner, and others need to get together and start a party working to elect more women to positions of leadership in Congress and beyond. It would be good for all of us.
Kim @ 23:
I pulled a COLBERT! You fell for it!
uncle joe mccarthy @ 26:
Yep. It will all depend on Kennedy. His overall history has been ok with the First Amendment. His recent history has been scary.
Indeed, the word "obscene" is appropriate in this context. Janet Jackson's breast? Not obscene. The word "fuck?" Not obscene. The crumbling of our Republic and Constitution to ensure that already increasing profits increase exponentially? There's no more perfect adjective than "obscene."
Heh, I think Congress oversteps its bounds by imposing any fines. Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech. No law means no law.
Its network TV. What did you expect, an enlightening and engaging dialog?
It's their way of making people stupid; 24/7 of stupid piped into your house. No wonder so many in the country are sleep walking.
I have a few shows I watch, Bill Maher, Henry Rollins, and PBS.
The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like
mewar, right now, you likemewar!I didn't see it because I really boycott FOX.
To those saying its Fox's property and they can do what they want - WRONG.
The public airwaves belong to all of humanity, just as the air and water does.
Fox and other broadcasters lease them FROM the people under the provision that they will use them in the public interest. The airwaves below to US, Fox is just renting them from us.
Cable, of course, is different than over the air, so Fox News can lie all they want.
er, belong, not below.
You can say "bitch" and "bastard", make reference to "balls", "nipples", and various other sundry body parts; you can even gush about how you would love to "put my head between your knees"... But GOD forbid you should say GOD, or GODDAMNED WAR...And let's face it people, it IS a GODDAMED war, because it most certainly is not a GODBLESSED war. What FOX and these other goddamed media wizards have their NIPPLES hard over, is the fact that Sally Fields had the BALLS to make a political statement against those BASTARDS in Washington, who have made BITCHES out of the Media. YOU GO GIRL!!!
OK, I am getting tired of this, but who gives a **ck!
Really, what are your readers, or the owners and contributors to this site, gonna do?
How many of you faux activist will show up at 1211 Avenue of the Americas tomorrow and block the entrances to protest this blatant anti American act?
I will tell you.
ZERO!
You guys are lame. You are a disgrace. In the last 6 years we have had 4 elections and billions, and billions, and billions of words written, and Fox News has only become stronger. The own the WSJ for gods sake!
I am ashamed that you are even making this an issue. It is all empty rhetoric Crooks and Liars.
I have been writing about this all night. Check out my screen name on Kos which is iliketodrum, I have gotten several of your articles front paged on digg because I write better headlines, my screen name there is expat001.
I am ashamed by the progressive community, because you are all fake. You won't step up from your made in Communist China desk chairs and take our country back. This post just proves the progressive netroots movement is an utter failure!
squiggs @ 14:
YouTube has it up. It's quite eerie.
As far as I know, it's not tremendously difficult to put live broadcasts on five-second delays to allow the guardians of delicate ears to dub bleeps over profane syllables. A waste of energy, sure, but not difficult. But Field's speech is interrupted by a jarringly prolonged silence.
Craig @ 34:
Oh, I disagree. I think we can demand labeling, such as "not actual truth".
AnnCoultersMoustache @ 37:
Hi! I'm AnnCoulter'sMoustache. Yes, that's right. I have a moniker that derides a fascist pundit not for her hideous politics, but her perceived non-conformity with societal gender roles, and I'm here to tell you.......
......that you all suck! You progressives! You harp on insignificant things. And all you do is bitch and complain by typing words into your screens. No real action! Just blogging! I hate you all!
Will you please visit my blog postings? I need readers.
Why do the terrorists hate us for our freedoms?
It's sad when words are more offensive than wars.
To AnnCoultersmoustache or what ever you like to be called...Don't sit behind your anonymous little keyboard and presume to know me, or what I stand for. You are merely a pretentious, insignificant little twit and I thumb my nose at you.
As for everyone else who is engaging in conversation...Carry on! And take these ramblings to work with you tomorrow morning to fuel the general unrest of the public. The grumblings will increase to a roar and the walls of tyranny will come tumbling down!
Karen @ 38:
It sucks neither the videos here aren't working yet. Keeping everything working on a site like this isn't easy.
Thank you Karen for posting that YouTube link.
ThinkProgress also has that video & a post up about it too.
er,
It sucks neither the videos here are working yet.
PurplePatriot @ 7:
perhaps... but there's something about that argument that "somehow" contravenes/violates "some conduct of ethics"... to me, it's a bit like the inkeepers of yore choosing who may or may not use what is otherwise a service provided freely to anyone (whom otherwise conforms to their preconceptions of "acceptable")...
if this conduct is "legal" within the letter of the law, then it is certainly a (crass and flagrant) violation of the spirit of laws intended to protect freedom of speech...
such behaviour is not at all like your example of "censorship" by C&L because censorship involves editing out (redacting) information that otherwise is included in the original presentation... this is more like some television stations fuzzing out a middle index finger (or anything they deem offensive) because they've decided their viewing audience will (and/or should) agree with their perspective... and in this case, a purely political perspective... not at all related to censorship decisions over coarse language or sexually explicit content... (which, btw... Fox seems to have no trouble with the explicit presentation of gratuitous violence)... this is nothing short of political gerrymandering... and is not or should not be within the purview of a publicly available service...
her expressions about the war do not violate any laws nor any standards of conduct that define unacceptable behaviour... and if it is not illegal for them to actively proselytize for political causes they (their owners) support, then it should be illegal... otherwise, they should be forced to identify themselves as an agent of a political ideology and not as a corporate entity equivalent to those that otherwise form their competition both in entertainment or in news delivery...
this form of corruption is no different than that of Joseph Goebbels...
No video to view. Links do not connect to video.
Are they withdrawn for a reason?
Clyde @ 27:
yeah... it's interesting (NOT) how they would frame that bit of bollocks... they've not at all allowed their viewers to determine for themselves or their families... they've completely violated their viewers' ability to choose what is or isn't "appropriate" by doing it for them... there's got to be some legal remedy for this kind of hypocritical bullshit... and someone with deep enough pockets and intense enough conviction to slap them into receivership...
since playing dirty is their modis operandi, i would bet anything that Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes both have some very embarrassing and very deleterious to their status skeletons in their closet... such is the way of all hypocrites and it probably would not be much of cost to dig those out to bring to the light of day... in fact, i think it would be a highly worthwhile investment (although, unfortunately beyond my pocketbook... but i'd be happy to make a donation toward such a worthy cause)
David E Toronto @ 46:
Of course. C&L relishes the delicious irony of uploading a post about video censorship without the censored video. By pressing play, and experiencing nothing, a C&L devotee experiences the eeriness of censorship, and manages to suspect even C&L of foul play while simultaneously thanking C&L for alerting him to the censored video. It's the blogging equivalent of an MC Escher painting.
That, or some technical difficulties will shortly be fixed. ;)
this was not a mistake
the awards show is on a delay, so if the offending word was goddamn, they couldve easily bleeped it
they chose to cut the entire end of the speech
and i dont think she specifically stated the iraq war
i think she was talking war in general
this will no doubt get alot of play from the wingnut talk shows
the wingnuts go after the flying nun....i cant wait

Insanity: Hello, and welcome to today's edition of Insanity and Coma. I'm your host Sheer Insanity. Today, we'll be talking about the disgusting and vile vitriol spewed from the filthy mouth of one of Hollywood's leading liberal traitors, Sally Field. You know, I've known about Field for a long time, and I knew it was only a matter of time before she vocalized her support for Osama bin Laden, and what I want to know, Alan, is why you liberals support her?
Coma: snores
Insanity: Yeah, I didn't think you'd have a defense. Shame on you.
Coma: wakes up Huh? What? Oh, Sally Field. You know, Sheer--
Insanity: How dare you? Did you hear what she said?
Coma: Actually, no. FUX censored it.
Insanity: Absolutely! Absolutely! As well they should have. We're a responsible, fair and balanced network here, and we're not about to show you something like that!
Coma: Like what?
Insanity: She opposes war! Meaning she hates America and everything it stands for. Like peace and freedom! And you have to have gotten a hint of who she was back in her earlier days. She dabbled in black magic, for crying out loud!
Coma: She did?
Insanity: Where have you been, Alan? She dressed up like a nun and flew around in the air! What kind of sick shit is that?
Coma: Did you just say the "s" word?
Insanity: What are you saying, that you like this terrorist-supporting witch?
Coma: Well, even if she is into black magic, and hates America, doesn't she have the same free speech rights as everyone el--
[An eerie seven seconds of silence transpires. On the screen is only picture of the cover of Insanity's book, Let Freedom Ring!]
Insanity: Well, there you have it folks. Sally Field hates America. That's all for tonight, folks. Be sure to tune in for my other show, Insane America, where I have no liberal counterpart. Goodnight.
Coma: snores
WE WILL NEVER HAVE REAL FREE SPEECH UNTIL WE FIGHT MEDIA CONSOLIDATION.
RUPERT MURDOCH HAS FREE SPEECH. YOU DO NOT.
THAT'S WHY "REGULATION" GETS SUCH A BAD RAP. IT'S GOOD FOR LITTLE PEOPLE,
BAD FOR CORPORATIONS AND POWERFUL PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LIE TO YOU AND KEEP
THE MESSAGE AND DISCUSSION IN THE STRICTEST POSSIBLE BOUNDARIES.
klunk @ 45:
Gerrymandering?
neamhni @ 16:
Fux is cable, not public airwaves. Can't you say anything on cable? I hear all kinds of bad language all the time, (but I'm ot offended by it). See, I'm a grown up.
Wasn't Fux talking about how dirty Obama was, but "at least Oprah douches"... ? The network of high moral standards.
Karen @ 53:
I love the etymological explanation that follows.
1. act of gerrymandering: an unfair manipulation of an electoral area for political advantage
2. manipulated electoral area: an electoral area manipulated in such a way as to give one political party an unfair advantage in an election
[Early 19th century. A blend of Elbridge Gerry and salamander , from the shape of an electoral district he created to favor his own party.]

Edwin @ 54:
The Emmys aired on FUX's public network. The one that airs The Simpsons.
Even if it were on cable, however, we're not talking about the government censoring anything; we're talking about FUX's censorship. Each private cable network can create its own rules (or deal with local rules, depending on the contracts, whether its in basic cable or premium, etc.) Comedy Central, you'll notice, still censors "foul" language. (Seems so silly to me. Everyone knows which words are being censored. And they let Jon Stewart curse up a storm. They just put bleeps over it.)
That's right soldiers! You're fighting and dying for our right to free speach. Spreading Liberty and Freedom as you see here.
Edwin @ 55:
Yeah, isn't it interesting? Ever seen a picture of the actual district he drew? It's quite something. And it does indeed resemble a salamander. And he did it without all the sophisticated computer systems we have to gerrymander today.
I don't quite understand how censoring video amounts to gerrymandering, though. :)
Thank-you, Sally.
Edwin @ 54:
Actually, Faux News is cable, but I believe Fux is a broadcast over the air television station on the UHF bands. It sure used to be a long time ago. I know I watched plenty of the Simpsons and Married with Children before there was even the option of cable tv where I live.
Wasn't the Emmys filmed days ago? Didn't Kathy Griffin get all kinds of publicity for the last several days for saying 'Jesus could suck it' or something to that effect? Was that a different Emmys somehow? I'm pretty sure they edited that out too.
Hopefully it will just bring more attention to what was actually said.
Fox aholes.
Yeah, what R #59 just said.
So, does Fux get Worse, Worser, or Worst Person in the World on KO tonight?
God bless Sally Field!
crap I linked to this Sally Field post above (58) , not the Kathy Griffin.
Kathy Griffinβs Emmy Remarks to Be Censored because?
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/09/12/kathy-griffins-emmy-remarks-to-...
If they happened days ago how did at least a rumor not get spread around the internets that Al Gore had won an Emmy or at least that he was going to be there up for one? I mean damn, the vid of Kathy Griffin's to be censored comment was posted on YouTube days ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udDx5mJ1OJc
She's hillarious!
If it's the case that the awards were taped days ago I'm quite surprised the Emmy folks didn't leak some hint about Gore to the media or at least to blogland. I know I would have tivo'd it.
I guess that youtube I posted is Griffin onstage recently talking about the emmys, not from the emmys saying the actual censored comment. I'm had just started watching it as I posted. I saw the title and the date and "assumed".
She's still hillarious.
damn, I need coffee.
http://www.inteldaily.com/?c=144&a=3566
Well here's the goddam war Sally was talking about. 1.2 million killed in Iraq so far. This is based on a major study that no one is questioning, but no one will report on.
We have been responsible for the deaths of 4% of this nation's population.
This was in order to keep the price of oil stable.
We are fucking sick.
OK a little OT but we all need something to lift our spirits. It's almost 4:20 on the West Coast. You know what you need to do.
Lori @ 42:
Amen.
Thanks to Fox for keeping freedom and democracy alive....
Curtilingus. LOL. I do have to say though that I thought your comment 65 was better than the 66. :) Keep it up.
[...] Surely this [award] belongs to all the mothers of the world. May they be seen, may their work be valued and raised. Especially to the mothers who stand with an open heart and wait. What? In 66 I was trying to tell people they should write their congressman about what I said in 65.
I guess I should've been more specific.
Curtlingus @ 66 not over the top rather under the radar thanks tho MSM.In US terms that would be around 14 million .I don't buy the Bush Chaney 911 lie never did never will.
In the immortal words of Molly Ivins, "sieg heil, y'all."
Fox made a horrendous, life-threatening mistake by censoring Field's comment about the war. They've now made enemies with the american people once and for all. This censorship will tank this station like nothing else because it's shown, in plain view, their corrupt alliance with this lying white house. It's shown just how far they will go (trampling the constitution) to keep Bush's propaganda megaphone in place. Essentially, they've shown their hand and the people will have nothing more of it.
Actually, their censorship amplifies who they are and what they're all about. Anyone who continues to watch any of their news programs either is a twisted, demented liar themselves who cannot bear to hear the truth or living in a vacuum. They've become totally irrelevant as a truthful news agency over the past year and this nationwide censorship only makes their mission statement of propaganda more obvious.
Fox News is the enemy within!
Sally said "If mothers ruled the world, there would be noβ¦.β ββ¦god-damned wars in the first place.β
But this is not true. Mothers voted for GW Bush in 2004. Traditionally a strong Democrat supporting demographic, jittery soccer moms came out in record numbers for Republicans and Bush/Cheney in 2004.
In addition, any father can tell you just how strong an influence on children mothers are. If a mother teaches her children not to go to war, they are not going! It really does not matter what the father says, mom calls the shots when it comes to the big issues.
Moms really need to stop passing the buck and accept responsibility for their role in the wars we fight.
1.2 million killed in Iraq and Fox News censors the truth about this amoral, illegal war? Shameful and disgusting. Now the anti-war movement has regained it's momentum, thanks to Faux News.
I've boycott Fox for six years now.
Does anyone know if this will be rebroadcasted?
Apparently there were a lot of great comments, James Spader, Sally Fields, & Bill Maher....
On what channel, time?
Thanks in advance!
I wonder whether it was her anti-war comment that they censored or her use
of the word "god-damned".
All part of the Republican dream! Our new slogan will have to be "America, land of the ... People!"
critical part of Tuckers lie @ 78:
Nice try but "Mother's ruling the world" is completely different then "Mothers voting for a man to rule the world"
Kim @ 23:
wrong out brave men and women are fighting for oil and not only to subvert iraqs soverinty , god bless murica
Fox did her a HUGE favor. The speech was the kind of speech that only a gargantuan asshole could think of delivering. This award - SURELY - is really for "all the mothers" in the whole world? Really, Sally, you're that important? This speech disgraces feminism. It's kind of a grade schooler's idea of unthinking things that as Bill Maher once said, we all have to clap for. Yeah, all women are the same at their core. Peaceful beings whose lives are made hellish by men. I have traveled all over the damn place in my life and if there's any one thing I know to be true from experience it's that there's good and bad in all people. And that you cannot predict who is who by some phony Oprah-ass knee-jerk clap-phrase. There are hundreds of millions of women right now, on this earth, who behave like a bunch of jerkstore assholes the majority of the time. (Hell, a lot of them watch Fox News). Same with men. The notion that you can look at a person's gender, or skin color, or sexual orientation, and make behavioral predictions on a mass, monolithic scale is insulting. But Sally apparently believes this. No, she went up on stage, pretended to be stunned in the extreme, as if receiving this award were a) something she considered such a remote possibility she hadn't even contemplated the thought of winning over those other actresses and b) subsequently needed to make the whole audience pause and fidget uncomfortably for ten seconds while she massively fucked up her obviously heavily rehearsed speech. So, in her rehearsed speech that had been prepared so precisely she couldn't even remember her sentiments without needing a word cue to trigger the succeeding line, she actually decided in advance to write out and then recite in her oral recitation of the award acceptance that voting for her would be truly just a decision to honor all mothers who exist on earth via the vehicle of giving her a trophy. If there has ever been a more self-involved actress on the face of the earth in her award show moments, I haven't seen it. Fox, you are a bunch of motherfuckers who need to be tried and imprisoned, but your crime here was not cutting off this stupid woman after about five seconds of her phony massively self-absorbed drivel.

If you have vid of David Chase accepting for Best Series he references Field's speech by wondering how the world would look if gangsters ran things. Heh. (I only caught bits of the broadcast from different locales and nothing was censored, but I couldn't give you the sources.)

Sally Fields' speech was carried in its entireity, no censorship.

From one of the articles linked:
Yep... LEDs are the way of the future. They use 1/3rd the energy of CFLs (only 5% of the energy of an incandescent), last 3-4 times as long as a CFL, are easily dimmable (this has always been a problem with CFLs), are very durable because they contain no glass parts, and unlike CFLs, they use no mercury vapor.
PurplePatriot @ 7:
Yes, it's really different. Rupert Murdoch and other corporate media heads wants you to think that everyone still supports their precious war. Crooks And Liars wants you to hear the rest of the story that is omitted by most other outlets.
Comparing censorship by a major broadcast network to a dinky little web site is patently ridiculous. If Murdoch weren't busy cackling evilly, he might bother to thank you for the equation of the two, which plays right into his cold, cold hands.
Ray Ramano was also censored...although it was hard to tell what it was they were censoring from his speech. (He was the first presenter).
This is the same as the story about E! censoring someone. Fox is a corporate entity, and is entitled to broadcast whatever they want, (obviously) and censor whatever they want. They are not the government.
Is it regrettable? Yes. But Fox censors have every right to strike what some might consider a blasphemous and objectionable phrase.

It's true. Truth hurts, huh? Faux Nooz needs to be banned.
What does one expect from a state run media source like Fox News? Hell, Fox News would have fit perfectly under Saddam Hussein's rule as well.
Why do you all get up in arms every time a commercial entity censors speech on their broadcast? This is not a first amendment issue; the government is not censoring anyone's speech.
Every one of you has the right to speak your mind. No entity is required to broadcast your opinions.
People, if we're going to fight the good fight, we've got to know what the hell we're talking about; and not end up looking like a bunch of whiny little crybabies every time something negative rolls down the line. THAT is how the right wing got into power in the first place.
Let's focus on the real issues, not the distractions.

yes fox is the propaganda right arm of the repigs but how much better are the rest?cnn msnbc they are all every one of them owned by the repigs , and you get the same crappy news coverage as fox noise , its just censorship by reporting news like some kid got his foot swallowed by a toilet while learning to take a dump,
to those who said that Hillary Clinton is a mother and she voted for the war in Iraq let me tell you one thing: Is Chelsea in Iraq? yeah... no! of course she's going to vote, her daughter is going to be safe and sound, let somebody elses die.
And to the one who mentioned palestinian mothers... when you can only do nothing, when you have nothing, when in your future there is nothing, then something to change that makes you proud, and in any case i can assure you not all palestinian mothers think like that, i don't think any mother wants her son/daughter to die for any cause, even if it is with honor.
we come to this world knowing we will have to bury our parents, not our parents to bury us. that's a pain i hope no one here has to deal with.
if the comment was so "lame" and "stupid" i wonder why at FOX it was censored.... no let's support the war I don't see any of you feeling fear of death and if you come back home living as a homeless person with a sign: Iraq Vet, spare a quarter!

The difference is in the terms. Fox News bills itself as a "fair and balanced" major media outlet but oviously this has never been the case. They silence anyone (I.E. Sally Field) that does not go with their point of view. No where in Fox News' terms does it state that any dissenting views will be deleted or banned but as we have just seen once again, it does happen and frequently. Therefore, by censoring the comments such as those from Sally Field, Fox News is going against their own stated policies. C&L, on the other hand is a private blog and states clearly in its commenting policy the terms as to what this site is about. From my point of view, C&L is standing by their stated policies and terms while Fox news is once again hypocritical. Here is a refresher as to C&L's terms to prove my point:
"C&Lis a personal site. It is not the Government. It is not public institution or a media organization. It is not a neutral site. It is intended to express and disseminate the authorsβ point of view. It reserves the right to limit comments to those that, in its view, comport with its stated comment policy. Comments that do not comply are subject to deletion and banning of the authorβs ISP. "
critical part of Tuckers lie @ 78:
I agree. Sally Field was talking like mothers are a homogeneous, oppressed group. They aren't. They get to vote like everybody else, and plenty of them voted for Bush. There's no reason to think the world would be one iota more peaceful if mothers ruled it. What, fathers don't love their children?
Please pick a real fight. They didn't censor her for some political reason; they censored her because she swore. They also censored Ray Romano for some unknown reason and Katherine Heigl for simpling *mouthing* an unheard expletive. The only thing it proves is that Fox is deathly afraid of the PTC and that the guy manning the button was clumsy and hamfisted.
Please. For Fox there would've been no better endorsement of the war than letting her keep babbling on and further embarrassing herself.
Now she's guaranteed at least four Emmys next year and a tour with the Dixie Chicks.
we need more and more of hollywood stars that middle america can relate to to speak out on the issues. we can have all the KO's, all the Maher's, all the other little known faithful speaking out and it doesn't mean diddly squat because one-toothed wonder in Nebraska cannot relate to these intellectual types. but all it takes is one sally field, one james spader, or one ben afflec If you don't believe me, ask fred thompson's people, or arnie's people, or reagan's people, hell he rode that coach all the way to the white house. what did he have... nutin. He had nothing. we need high profile peole willing to put it all on the line speaking out and challenging the corruption that grows as we speak in the oval office. God bless those who have that kind of courage. You are the true patriot of today. Fight them at every juncture.
. . .If mothers ruled the world, there would be noβ¦.β

Some mothers do rule the world but they happen to be men.
That's why America is where it is today.
Well, I love Sally, hate the war and hate Fox, but I would've cut her off too, and not just for the GD word. Once she started stammering, with the "um, um, um," her speech got stale. The production editor's job is to cut those things short during award shows.
Murdoch only allows con celebs to talk about politics like wrong said Fred Thompson, Ted Nugent and Charlie Daniels
"The Congress shall pass no laws regarding free speech"
It's your right.
Abolish the FCC today!
bill mahers an intellectual? party faithfull? please mahers is a pompass asshole who despises the democrats as well as repigs! hes just an insult artist of the jay leno caliber , its his opinnion or nothing , hes hardly worth watching and his jokes suck big time!
The distinction between Fox Entertainment (not sure of the corporate names) and Fox News has been made numerous times. One side of Fox puts on shows that aren't afraid of criticizing Bush, the war, etc. and the other side is a bunch of jingoistic warmongers. Did one side get its meat hooks on the other here, or was it just the taboo of using the Lord's name in vain that was involved in this censorship? I have to agree that it's customary to just bleep the word "god" when it occurs in speech. So someone didn't like the antiwar message there. The fact that Hillary is the only mom in the running makes one suspect that the pro Hillary message was even more offensive.
Definite censorship! This was not simply a cut-off - there was dead silence after her mic was cut.
Maybe the same people who work the microphones for o'really were working the Emmy show.

FRANK LABARBERA @ 122:
this asshole proves women dont get it, if they did hed have been an abortion!
Wasn't bleeped in Canada.
What does that tell you?
Mike K @ 104:
The airwaves belong to the people (this was not a cable only program). I think that's why. We're also offended by the notion of censorship in general. That's a real issue.
FRANK LABARBERA @ 122:
Frank, why are you yelling? Do you have issues? Don't be so emotional man, you'll live longer.
FRANK LABARBERA @ 122:

Franque LaBarbarian grunts.
Patriot Actor @ 124:
Canada doesn't mind that sort of speech?
Please, someone else do a full quote of FRANQUE LABARBARIAN. My eyes aren't bleeding yet.
Paul @ 3:
Absolutely correct! And I do boycott FOX. I don't watch it so I'm not certain who's advertising on it, but for the most part I buy locally and from small privately owned businesses... every single chance I get. The only way to break this down is to stop supporting it. Plain and simple.
If Republicans and their Lackies at FOX ruled the world there would be no TRUTH.
Professor Farnsworth @ 127:
Are the Caps Lock of all republicans glued down?
Pissed-American @ 133:
Dunno, ask them
FRANK LABARBERA @ 122:
Fred swallows reich wing talking points hook line and sinker and wets his bed.
Patriot Actor @ 124:
They were too drunk off their asses on Molson's beer to notice or care?
Ruthless People @ 135:
...er, Frank I mean.
Stars always run the risk between being considered strident or vacuuous.
As for women in charge would bring peace that's part of the nonsense from the 70's. What about Margaret Thatcher, or Indira Ghandi. They have found graves of Kurgan Warrior Queens.
Feminist can't seem to make up their mind whether they're as capable of violence as men and can serve in the armed forces with them, or that they are by nature less violent and more nurturing.
They can always fall back on the old chestnut that it's a women's perogative to change her mind.
My emails are censored big time. truthout.org has info as to the servers who censor. This may be the reason some of you think it is crooks and liars censoring. A windfarm is supposedly coming to my area and the turbines are made by GE. These supossed green alternative energy is a joke. Off shore works ...land based doesn't. big secret ..GE and big brother what a combo. and in the state of Maine.
Censorship . . . just another long-standing American Value promoted the caring folks at Fox.
Pissed-American @ 133:
YES, YES THEY ARE. EITHER THAT, OR THEY'RE USING OLD KEYBOARDS THAT ONLY OUTPUT CHARACTERS IN ALL CAPS (THINK OF APPLE ][S AND COMMODORE 64S) BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO CHEAP AND/OR TECHNOLOGICALLY OBSOLETE.
enor @ 33:
Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner! Same answer here.
Looked like Sally was having a Norma Ray (sp) flashback.
"Oh, those wacky liberal Hollywood elites..."
Poor Frank #116 don't get that Bush and Osama are cut from the same cloth. Both have killed innocent men, women and children to further their own political ends. In fact, Bush has now gotten more Americans killed (well over 3.000 soldiers) than Osama killed on 911. Ad to that Bush is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, way more that Osama killed on 911. Frank is wetting his bed concerned about the Islamocfascists following us home to kill Americans but Frank and his ilk don't seem to concerned that "Christian" George Bush is in THEIR home land, the middle east, on his killing crusade against innocent muslims all for Big Oil and for Halliburton. If we get hit again it will be BushCo's fault for they have made matters worse by lying their way into Iraq and setting up permanent bases in their homeland.
Bush=Osama Osama=Bush Two sides of the same coin.
Cheney=Saddam Saddam=Cheney Two sides of the same coin.
Pathetic, utterly pathetic.
[...] part of that last sentence is what Fox awkwardly cut out of Sally Field’s acceptance speech. Crooks and Liars has the video. Such a blatant move to silence free speech would be easily challenged under the [...]
I recall one episode from "All in the Family" (can't remember the name) where Archie Bunker called Vietnam "that goddammed war". I think it was the episode with the draft dodger at Christmas dinner. I guess that word was good enough to NOT be censored on tv over 30 years ago.......
And if Sally Field had given a pro-war (or pro-Bush) little speech in favor of mother's children dying in war, they would not have censored that. Which goes to show how sick our society has become.
You guys have no idea how foolish you look claiming this is 'censorship'.
Sally Field doesn't have a First Amendment right to be heard on Fox or any other news outlet.
Here's a clip. This shouldn't have been censored, it wasn't so bad.
