Mike's Blog Round Up
By Mike Finnigan Saturday Sep 22, 2007 10:00amI am very honored that Mike has asked me, noted conservative blogger Jon Swift, to fill his very big shoes and host this week's Blog Round Up. I'm not sure why he decided to reach across the aisle and choose a conservative like myself, though I imagine it must be extremely difficult to find liberals who are dependable enough to take on such a great responsibility. (If you are unfamiliar with my modest blog, here is a good place to start.)
But fear not, I am a very reasonable conservative, and instead of hitting you over the head with my ideology, I believe the subtle way I have arranged these links will convince you of the virtues of conservatism in the end.
One thing I have in common with many liberals is I just don't know what to say about this whole complicated Jena 6 situation so I would prefer to say nothing at all. But Kai at Zuky, Jill at Jack and Jill Politics, the Field Negro, the Thin Black Duke at Slant Truth and Elle seem to have plenty to say.
Dispatches from the Culture War tells you "How To Avoid Advancing the Gay Agenda." I plan to follow all of these recommendations.
Once you realize evolution is untrue, you start to doubt everything scientists tell us, such as whether the world is really round. Liberal Avenger finds some people who are keeping an open mind about the subject.
Electronic Village has posted a list of the "Top 10 Black Bloggers." Because I am completely colorblind I had no idea any of these bloggers were black.
Vidiot Speak concedes that Democrats will never beat Republicans. One reason might be, as Bark Bark Woof Woof points out, Republicans always stay one step ahead of Democrats in pioneering cutting-edge campaign tactics.
World-O-Crap introduces us to the work of Archibald P. Campbell, the genius behind the children's cartoon "Why Do the Terrorists Want To Hurt Me?" which I think every child should see.
Please send your tips to modestjonswift [at] gmail [dot] com. I will be using the very same stringent criteria used by the Bush Administration in hiring to decide what to link to, namely (in this order): 1) Nepotism (now is a good time to start that blog, Mom) 2) Cronyism 3) Bribery 4) Flattery and (in case of ties) 5) Quality of the candidate. And just as Fox News only features liberal pundits whom no one has ever heard of, I am going to try to link to smaller blogs rather than just to the usual suspects the way most liberal blogs do, with the notable exception of this blog, to which I am very grateful for inviting me to be a guest here this week.

Nice post, had me going for a few minutes... ;)
Great satire!

renew your marriage every seven years? awesome idea! less divorce, more variety
this is bound to cause confusion.........
Finnigan is funny!
Site Monitor: Mike Finnegan touring in Europe. This week's Round Up is being guest blogged by Jon Swift.
What have you done to Mike?
From Jon Swift's blog..

In fact, the more one looks at the evidence that Craig seems to be gay, the more one can see that it is really just evidence of being conservative. There are many attributes of conservatism that seem really gay and unfortunately the more we deny that we are gay, the gayer we seem. This incident should put a chill in every conservative who has a "wide stance" or belongs to a barbershop quartet.
-snip-
Conservatives are very friendly, open people, the kind of people who make eye contact for longer than some people might find comfortable, so it is easy to see how this could be misconstrued by a gay man looking for love from a kindly older man.

Well done!
"this is bound to cause confusion…" mudshark
Indeed.
Perhaps a "Reasonable Liberal" should be added to this feature, to provide counterpoint and links to confused conservative sites.
Hiya mudkitty! It ain't Finnigan, I am bookmarking Jon Swift, this guy is hilarious. You are right though, Mike is funny.
Sorry, but AA got 100??
They just had an incident where they threw a gay couple off the plane for holding hands and giving each other a kiss.
Try again.
Republicans are also light-years ahead of Democrats in terms of advanced voting tactics (e.g. stealing elections, voter fraud, etc).
Jon Swift, you horrible neocon, what have you done with Mike? Great stuff! I visited all the links that you provided and although all were good, World-O-Crap was truly inspirational. I'm glad to say that I have been enlightened. I didn't know that terrorists were in the bathtub as well. I'll just have to keep a closer lookout from now on.
I still don't get the whole left wing/right wing thing,... space is mapped in three dimensions, not a single line.
I'm a 38 year old divorced post punk artist who thinks ALL marriage should be illegal, (53% failure rate, obviously hurting the economy) politicians should have to wear shock collars like dogs inside an invisible fence, & have to ask permission from their constituents to use the bathroom, all churches should be taxed heavily & have quotas on services to the homeless, incarcerated & the sick, & I own guns.
I imagine I fall so far off the political compass that new maps would have to be drawn.
JohnnyThief @ 12:
You're not so far off as you think, JohnnyThief! Couldn't agree more on the shock collars. They should also make a lot less money than they do and have no retirement benefits. This would make it appear as though their public service is actually heartfelt.
So, that "Why Do the Terrorists Want to Hurt Me?" cartoon . . . is he joking or serious?
Good round-up, JS.
To Jon,
I think it was very "open-minded" of you to take on this task of doing Mike's roundup.
Did you have to take a show after you were done? Kinda like in the "Crying Game" movie.
But really, I do appreciate your insight and the way you connect things at your blog.
For example, "if Hitler's mother wanted to abort him, would you drive her to a Planned Parenthood clinic or counsel her to keep the baby?" This part from Columbia university's former Dean and the questions he put forward on Fox/Faux News were quite stimulating.
I will say that even I was somewhat hesitant to read your post, but I feel that I am learning now how to meet the conservatives at the middle. However, I would not be so bold as to ask them to meet me at Ground Zero. I just don't think that would help the, (I'm more of a Patriot than you could ever hope to be), situation.
With that said, I look forward to moving through all your links posted in the round-up. I feel secure in knowing that if I need to ask you for some "Duck Tape" you would share some with me.
Thank you again!
Yours Truly,
ATreeHugging, HippyLoving, Proudly Pinko, ManHating, Intellectual Elitist, OneWorld, PeaceWhore, GayFriendly, ProgressiveLiberal .
:) Hugs and Kisses
Scott Adams at DilbertBlog took on a similar writing style, at least with this post on Ahmadinejad. I feel for those open minded liberals he just won over. Then again, maybe he's a conservative making fun of you guys! I should be so lucky.
Well done, Mr. Swift!
Friday Flotsam (Saturday morning edition)
Finally, let me call your attention to what promises to be an interesting and fun compilation as Jon Swift takes charge of the "Blog Round Up" at Crooks & Liars beginning this Sunday, September 23, 2007. If you are familiar with Jon Swift's modest e...

We really can not drop the ball on the issue of Racism! Keep this stop on top and keep calling your representatives. Tell everyone you know where they might get the information about "The Jena 6".
On the topic of this in the round-up, we need to tackle the "Why We are Afraid to Discuss Issues of Racism"! Thank you again Jon.
P.S. I think I will just read the rest of round-up and the links. It can take a lot of time for each issue.
jon swift is the funniest writer since, well, jonathan swift.
he also links to skippy, which is a plus in his favor.
and thanks for the link today, jon!

Site Monitor: It's called satire, dadams....Do you know who Jonathan Swift was? Satirist. Our commenting policy of keeping posts civil extend to our contributers as well.
Darn. I missed the dadams comment. Clueless commenters are the best part of JS posts.
JohnnyThief @ 12:
There is a new 3-axis map. It was posted here a while ago, and you could test yourself. I was in the same quadrant with Dennis Kucinich (post test). He and I were the only ones there. All the other politicians were in the neo-nazi quadrant. I'm exaggerating here, of course, but...
If I gave you my bio, one might wonder where I fit too. Parts of me are ultra-liberal to the point of anarchism (seriously) (and I loved some of your suggestions). Part of me is conservative, very traditional, and thinks etiquette should be taught in schools; starting from kindergarten.
Welcome Jon. I have never been against conservatives. I am against the current GOP: they're just a nightmare. I don't automatically support liberals either; they have to earn that.
Archibald Campbell is exactly the reason the right-wing-ocrats needs to be shot and pissed on. I hate pwecious, pwecocious children for starters, nevermind that hateful propaganda in his cartoon. Certainly no parent should subject their child to such RUBBISH.
If anyone else, like me, is curious about what "the gay agenda" truly is, you can find the answer here: http://www.bettybowers.com/homoagenda.html
It's worth a read!!!
Shame on you Kos, MyDD, Huf Post, and all the usual suspects. You guys had a chance to step up to the plate and show us that you are our friends and you came up small. I expect this kind of treatment from the folks on the right, not you guys. Look, I blog about the war constantly, because it's fucked up, and young Americans are losing their lives to make some fucking oil companies rich. So I understand your issues with the war, and the fact that you have to blog about it. But would it kill you to show some passion and blog about social injustice and domestic terrorism in our own fucking country? Would it kill you guys to get a fucking clue and not be so far behind the eight ball? Folks, when the gang at CNN are ahead of Markos and company on Jena, we have a problem. The entire orange crush crew ought to be ashamed of themselves.
kudos to C&L for their coverage. the above post is for the myopic 'power blogs'.
You're a complete idiot and a liar. After clicking the hyperlink and reading your recommended "Dispatches from the Culture War [tells you] 'How To Avoid Advancing the Gay Agenda.'” and noting that you "plan to follow all of these recommendations," I can come to no other conclusion. Right wingnut Christerfascists shouldn't make such ado about how many corporate entities have embraced pluralism and guaranteed gay and lesbian workers the same company protections and perks these companies extend to their straight workers, since the list of Bad Companies on the web site you link to only leaves the reader with the inescapable conviction the "liberal" corporations are the rule, not the exception. Duh! Hey, fathead, this is America. The Declaration of Independence says, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...." It does not say, "all men, except homos and dykes...." You can't possibly "follow all these recommendations" and you probably know it. I suppose, being the tight-assed, anal retentive, penny-pinching, miserly fuck you are, you will avoid a sale touting an item you desperately need that is selling for 100X more elsewhere JUST BECAUSE IT'S BEING sold at one of the corporate stores you "plan" to avoid patronizing? Give me a break, you crypto-fascist twit! Of course, Freudian projection being what it is, you obviously hate homos, so it's a damned good bet you're a homo yourself. Hello, Larry Craig II.
