peter-king-mosques.jpg Steve posted this last week, but I think we need to see him say this so he can't get away with the "I was misquoted" routine. Rep. Peter King often makes idiotic remarks, (Baghdad is just like Manhattan) but Rudy can't be happy about this one.

King: "Unfortunately we have too many mosques in this country, there's too many people who are sympathetic to radical Islam. We should be looking at them more carefully, we should be finding out how we can infiltrate, we should be much more aggressive in law enforcement."

As Digby notes:

And btw, is Rudy Giuliani the craziest nutball they've ever tried to foist on us, or what? How can anyone think this man is an appropriate choice to be president?

Giuliani's craziness has been exposed more and more lately and I wonder if the media will ask Rudy about King.

Rep Peter King (R-NY) is an ASSHOLE.

That's all you gotta say about him.

Peter King is still trying to kiss and make up with the GOP for not supporting the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
Since his one moment of clarity, he's been a wingnut!

And yes, Giuliani is bat shit crazy!!

Despite your name Congressman King you have no right to decide such a thing.

Like it or not our country is based on Freedom of Faith.

Our founding fathers clearly had no objection to people of any faith being Americans and you need to learn to deal with that.

Wnat I think is more interesting than Peter King's craziness is Rudy's phone calls from his wife while he's making speeches. Something new and different? Yeah! Where did this guy come from?

"urged Giuliani to drop King as his homeland security adviser,"

christ can you imagine king as director of HLS??!!

Actually, we have too many ASSHOLES like King & Ghouliani in positions of power and influence in this country.

Yes, he's trying to play the "I'm a regular guy who loves his wife routine" but it comes across like some jerky teenage girl getting phone calls during the movie. Just plain Rude ... So i guess we should call him ...

RUDE RUDY

Remember that time...oh let's say a few hundred years ago......Europeans came to this continent to escape religious persecution? Those values are reflected in the Constitution. That term, "Constitution", seems like a dirty word these days. Republicans should urge Giuliani to Move On.

There are too many right wing Christian extremists in this country and too many politicians that pander too them for their own political gains.

Its weird that in a country where a group like muslims are viewed and talked about like this, that they have a hard time understanding why the haulocaust happened and do not show it more understanding.

It is also called hypocracy.

Those alleged terror plots she mentioned were just that... ALLEGED. They have yet to be definitively proven in a court of law. And, considering the government's track record on catching terrorists and its belief in a mythical abundance of 'sleeper cells', I doubt those cases will turn out to be what they tell the public they are.

...and remember this one.
"We'll take care of the counting." (Election day 2004)

Looks like the kind of guy who would enjoy ripping beating hearts out the chests of anyone who doesn't agree with the neo cons agenda.

King used to be my congressman, but after they redrew the district lines, I ended up in Steve Israel's district.

King is very pugnacious, no doubt about it. One could plausibly argue that he meant that there were too many mosques in this country where there are people who are sympathetic to radical Islam, and not that there were too many mosques.

That being said, I would like to know what King means by radical Islam. If he means Muslim-Americans who are sympathetic to Osama bin Laden and want to commit acts of violence in the United States, then that is one thing. But if his definition encompasses Muslim-Americans who support the Palestinians over the Israelis, then he is in a bind because he openly supported the IRA, which committed terrorist attacks against our NATO ally Great Britain.

When trying to arrange for workmen to repair his home in 1784, George Washington made clear that he would accept "Mohometans, Jews or Christians of any Sect, or they may be Atheists."

Wasn't is Christian extremist Terry Nichols who killed and injured over 100 Americans and conservative terrorist Tim McVeigh who bombed Oklahoma City killing scores of Americans? We have way too many right wing Christian and conservative extremists in this country who have proved they will attack and kill Americans. Should close down all the Christian churches?

someone needs to investigate this piece of shit, i bet he is into some serious wrong shit... probably child molestation.

WTF is "agressive" law enforcement, compared to the regular kind!?! Isn't law enforcement an either/or proposition, either you do it or you don't? Then what is "passive" law enforcement? Just leave the police station open and let criminals come in, book themselves, and lock themselves into cells a la "Otis", the town drunk of Mayberry?

Next, you'll be telling me women need to be "agressively" pregnant...

Giuliani won't get the tough questions from the media, at least not until it's too late. First, it's too easy to just call the G-man the "hero of 9/11" and be done with it, and as we all know, the media is more than ready to take the easy way out at any avenue. And secondly, because of the "hero of 9/11" moniker he's been bestowed, even if the media did decide not to be lazy and think of some tough questions to ask, they're going to be hesitant to so as not to be accused of attacking the man who kept us safe on that fateful day.

In short, don't be surprised to see this jackass in the Oval Office.

McVeigh was an Agnostic.

Seldom do disparate breakings news stories converge to paint a larger picture. Even as news of atrocities by American military contractor Blackwater rocked Baghdad, Republicans in the Senate blocked the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act, ensuring that the most draconian features of the Bush administration's detainee policies remain in place. Meanwhile, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) lamented the presence of "too many mosques in this country." It's no wonder a recent Pew Research Center poll revealed plummeting approval ratings for the United States within Muslim countries worldwide.

For the details, see:
"Blackwater, Habeas Corpus and the Global Muslim Backlash."

I say this in all sincerity - you have only to look at this man's face to know there is something seriously wrong with him. He wears it like a coat.

McVeigh was an Agnostic.

McVeigh invited California conductor/composer David Woodard to perform a prerequiem (a Mass for those who are about to die) on the eve of his execution. He had also requested a Catholic chaplain. Ave Atque Vale was performed under Woodard's baton by a local brass choir at St. Margaret Mary Church, located near the Terre Haute penitentiary, at 7:00 p.m. on June 10, to an audience that included the entirety of the next morning's witnesses. McVeigh chose William Ernest Henley's poem "Invictus" as his final statement. His final meal consisted of two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

The man became irrelevant years ago.

Peter King is weirder than Steven King. And he scares me more.

Are we allowed to call this guy a Nazi?

Why would Giuliani be worried about this? He's the fear platform, afterall. The Islamic boogie-man platform. Anyone who would vote for Giuliani has reasons for doing so, and if anything, I think this only galvanizes his whacko supporters who think the billion+ muslims on this planet are all agents of Saintan.

You have to admit - no hates brown people like the repiglicans.

I'd like to know how he defines radical christianity.

Actually, the problem is that too many "Americans" have failed to read the Constitution.

Like you, bub.

Calm down, folks. I think what he and Rudy really said -- or meant to say -- was "we have too many mosquitos in this country". And they'd be right. Those bloodthirsty little buggers are downright vicious. Especially the Radical Muslim ones.

Still when he blew up the Oklahoma Federal Building he was an agnostic.

Opps, I meant Christian extremist Eric Rudolph. Terry Nichols was in with Tim McVeigh who were the conservative anti-government extremists...my bad.

Fill in the blanks with your own personal "enemy within".

We have too many white politicians in this country, preaching violence and hate, not cooperating with Law Enforcement officials...

isnt this the cocksucker whos going to count our votes? can the ignorent prick add?

GonzoD @ 3:

And yes, Giuliani is bat shit crazy!!

I've been saying that since Amadou Dialo.

That comment about 'minority religions' in this clip: Islam is only a minority religion in this country. Globally, it is the #1 leading religion, with over a billion converts, according to global census reports.

that was a real barforama. Sorry, I'm used to dealing with normal people.

The media asked Giuliani about this last week after King issued his explanation. King's explanation that he was only referring to mosques that didn't cooperate with law enforcement. Rudy said he understood what King meant even without the fuller explanation. King gave Rudy cover.

Giuliani is a nut. He's a creep.

He's speaking at the NRA and has flip-flopped on gun control. He claims the reason for his change in heart about guns is due to "9-11." What an idiot. What else is he going to blame on 9-11?

These Repugs are idiots, morons, and asswipes.

In case no one else has said this, on behalf of all mosques, I'd like to say that there are too many Peter Kings in this country.

Rudy loves his blackshirt laceys. He thinks "if it ain't white, it ain't right"

Oh Rudy. He expects us to vote for him because he was in the right place at the wrong time.
And he couldn't even do that right. He will be the repig nominee and he will be dissected and destroyed.

bastards like king and giggliani should be voted out of office and labeled as "enemy combattants". they are too dangerous, delusional and rascist to be in government.

King: “Unfortunately we have too many mosques in this country, there’s too many people who are sympathetic to radical Islam. We should be looking at them more carefully, we should be finding out how we can infiltrate, we should be much more aggressive in law enforcement.”

Humm, the same could be said about evangelical cult buildings as well; and the members of those pose a greater threat to the nation than any Islamic congregation.

No, Peter, too many strip malls. Duh.

http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=16523

"Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, with 1.2 billion devotees, with ... growth at 2.75 percent per year. By some accounts, Muslims will overtake the current 1.8 billion Christians by 2020.

In America, where there are an estimated 7 million followers, Islam is growing at a 6 percent annual rate. WHITE AMERICANS (my caps) are the fastest-growing segment of U.S. Islam, and 80-85 percent of all U.S. Muslims consider themselves former Christians. If present trends continue, every major U.S. city will be predominantly Muslim by 2020.."

hmmm...WHITE AMERICANS....

Hear that Peter King??

Of course we're sympathetic to radical Islam, we've allowed the radical Christians to run the country into the shitter since the 1980's.

Why not go to the Christian leaders and ask them. Or the Chatholic leaders?

Are their too many bigots in America?

In the spirit of moveon:

" Peter King or Bigot King " ?

Hey Rep. Peter King, there are too many IRA supporters in this country...including you!

You can see why Hannity likes Peter King so much.

He was mosquequoted...

There is no doubt, this statement is at least on par with what Mel Gibson said. The meaning is as directed at one culture as it was at another. BOTH ARE TRUE but this is America and AMERICA was built on immigrants & their religion.
To reinerate; if there is too many mosques, there there is too much media/entertainment/communication owned by those of Jewish faith.
Please tell me there is a difference in what these two guys meant to say.

This week's conservative idiots:
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/top10/307

This is my Congressman. He also said on TV that Rove should get a medal for outing CIA Plame. His reward for that was a short-lived Chairman of Homeland Security.Scary, scary guy.

Both the congressman and the former mayor have the idea that Americans.....what a minute I have to take this call from my wife...high honey...no I was just........yes dear, but..................................................

Steve J. @ 57:

I thought that was the name of a horror novelist.

rend @ 6:

"urged Giuliani to drop King as his homeland security adviser,"

christ can you imagine king as director of HLS??!!

I can imagine we'd be safe if his first order of business was to close down half the mosques!

King was once a moderate and sane Republican. He supported Clinton's peace efforts in Ireland which eventually led to the end of the war there. In that case instead of simply labeling the IRA as "terrorists" an effort was made to address their grievences and bring them into the political process. King was also one of only 5 Republican Congressmen to vote against impeachment. In fact he was very active in opposing impeachment. Then at some point he drank the cool aid and has been making crazier and crazier statements in recent years.

Mmm, mmm, mmmm.... there goes the Cabinet post, Buckwheat!
ROTFLOL!

Yup, just like there were too many Jews in Germany in the 30's.....

Why does he look so much like a 60's era head of the draft board?

The guy is an evil Herman Munster.
