Latest Vote Vets Ad: Rush - Say It To My Face
By Logan Murphy Tuesday Oct 02, 2007 10:51am
Comedian and anti-troop, anti-veteran propagandist, Rush Limbaugh, gets another smackdown from VoteVets.org. Iraq veteran Brian McGough, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq after shrapnel lodged in his skull, sends a message directly to the draft-dodging Limbaugh, telling him to stop telling lies about his service. Vote Vets isn't about to let up on the coward after his phony troop statement and I applaud them for keeping up the pressure. Will Rush ever accept Jon Soltz's challenge to meet with him face to face? Figure the odds...
UPDATE: (Nicole) Never one to stop digging when finding himself in a hole, Rush lashed out at McGough on his radio program, likening him a suicide bomber:
On the October 2 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh denounced a recent ad by VoteVets.org that featured Iraq war veteran Brian McGough, calling the ad "a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said, then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media in a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into."
The ultimate irony? McGough received his permanent brain damage from shrapnel from a suicide bomber. Classy move, Rush.

Reich-wingers are embarrassing themselves by defending drugbaugh.
el druggo...continuing to dig himself into a deeper and deeper hole
keep talking rush
Dr. Matt @ 1:
The thing is, they are defending the ULTIMATE phony soldier.
Bush.
"lying to him about what I said"
...as though this vet is comparable to Pills LImbaugh's listeners who depend on a drug addict to tell them what to think. Even though this brave vet is/was brain-damaged by shrapnel, he can still think for himself. Good on him for his bravery in battle and in the media.
There are limbaughs everywhere, but what I can't understand is why he has listeners.
Rush is the poster child of the clueless power-broker. A rich, fat, balding white-man smoking cigars and spouting opinions over things he knows nothing about.
Does it surprise anyone that the Neanderthal collection of scrotal material that makes up the repug party would venerate a giant dick?
Dumber than his "phony soldiers" remark -- and even harder to spin. Keep talking, ya fat loser.
Why should these guys wait for Rush to invite them onto his show for a face-to-face? These vets should hunt the fat guy down and GET IN HIS FACE with a camera asking him point blank questions, Fox style. Imagine how he would react to being hounded every day outside his studio by a bunch of veterans.
All I'm going to offer on this is one point... IF, an Iraqi vet decided to take Mr. Limpass to task directly... And who knows, maybe even violently??? I really doubt that there's a jury in this nation that would convict.... I know I wouldn't give Rush two cents for his bloody nose... And if, thats all he ever came away with after the garbage he's filled the airwaves with all these years... He could consider himself pretty damned lucky... all things considered....IF... You know, this is like an OJ thing sort of... IF he did, and if an Iraqi war vet did... etc blah blah... Mostly Rush just continues to show himself to be the penultimate dickhead....Why he's still manages to make it onto the air is a mystery to me..... I think he and his tiredassed act have been losing market share for awhile now.............JD
Archae @ 3:
Isn't that the pathetic truth! And Rush... STFU! You're next to the biggest LOSER on the planet; the several others ahead of you are Bu$h, Cheney, Kristol, and on and on...
thought I'd give Parkinsons patients a break and rip a disabled soldier
Rush wouldn't say "boo" to anybody's face, because, like most of his listeners, he's an enormous chickenshit.
This is an honest and courteous ad.
But I think the time for being courteous to Limbaugh and all the other media pimps-for-Bush is over.
They have proven time and again to be military cowards (too afraid to serve), chicken-hawks (gladly send your kids to their deaths), and in the case Limbaugh, putridly phony drug addicts.
It is time to stop the words and begin the face-to-face confrontations, even if forced in public. Let's see how the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity (and others) react to non-violent confrontations that are captured on video.
Show them for what they are when they don't have the skirts of a camera or microphone to hide behind.
In the olden days, somebody would have just beat Rush's fat drug addicted ass. I wish it were olden days.
Why are we surprised that Rush is clinging to his feeble story? This is standard Limbaugh, make an outrageous statement, get a bunch of conservative zombies to nod in agreement, and then blather about how the left can't meet him head-on in the marketplace of ideas.
It won't matter how many decorated soldiers of whatever rank come forward to dispute Rush's words - Limbaugh will self-edit and cast aspersions on anyone who dares to 'take him out of context'.
What Limbaugh does doesn't really matter. We need a chorus of voices, the Jon Soltz's, the General Wesley Clarks, newspaper editors, and others to call out the sheer hypocrisy and idiocy of Limbaugh and his ilk.
Not to pass a resolution condemning his speech, but simply to destroy the man's credibility through presentation of the facts.
Rush Limbaugh is a national disgrace. He needs to be relentlessly hounded until he's driven off Armed Forces Radio. He is a bloated, degenerate, corrosive, lying, un-American gasbag. But it's a mistake to call him a comedian, that diminishes the seriousness of his crimes. And it gives him cover, just like it does Ann Coulter -- every time these criminal propagandists cross the line, they're able to claim "Oh, I was just joking, I'm a comedian." Call them what they are -- disgusting, vicious liars without an ounce of honesty, humor, or decency.
AF_Comm_Guy @ 8:
I love this idea!!! It's great... okay, you wonderful vets, here's another great opportunity at making Mr. Shoot-My-Mouth-Off-I'm-Just-A-Talking-Head-Limbaugh face you.
The hypocrisy of all this is that while Limbaugh slams "phony soldiers" he himself, when he had an opportunity to display his patriotism, mysteriously managed to avoid being drafted and/or volunteering so he could be sent to the jungles of Vietnam. On his radio show in December 2001, I believe, a caller accused Limbaugh of dodging Vietnam because of a "boil on his butt." Limbaugh denied this, claiming that it was "Internet BS." If he is to be taken at his word [a rather dubious proposition], it begs the question of how he managed not to be sent to Vietnam alongside the other poor working class bastards who ended up fighting and dying unnecessarily in that ill-conceived war. Like O'Reilly and the other chickenhawks, Limbaugh is great at practicing the adage "do as I say, not as I do."
It's a great way to distract from the $140Bil new money for war or the continuing fiasco at Walter Reed.
Archae @ 3:
That's a huge insult to the military to even call herr dubyah a "phony soldier". He's scum, anti-American, anti-military, anti-children, anti-facts, anti-intelligence, anti-truth, anti-Christian, anti-democracy, anti-human, etc., etc., but never use the word "soldier" in any form to ever describe that fascist pig.
MargeAggedon @ 6:
Now THAT is quoteworthy!
Limpy McBustcyst - troophater.
Apparently drugbaugh also thinks our vets are stupid and that they can't think for themselves.
Erroll @ 18:
Limpdong is a cyst on the ass of the AmurKKKan conscience.
Way to go, El Rushbaugh!!! I bet he NEVER takes tha Soltz challenge!
Great advertisement.
Maybe a phony soldier can pretend to visit Rush Limbaugh in the night, chloroform him into unconsciousness, pretend to surgically remove his fat atrophied limbs and pretend to force him to eat them at gunpoint.
LET'S PRETEND TOGETHER, RUSH!
LET'S PRETEND TOGETHER, RUSH!
LET'S PRETEND TOGETHER, RUSH!
LET'S PRETEND TOGETHER, RUSH!
Dr. Matt @ 23:
Or read the transcript, or listen to the actual clip. How can people who are on a radio/TV show say something, and have it played back to them, still have the nerve to look you straight in the eye and say " I never said that. Don't lie about what I said"?
If there was a shred of a doubt in anyone's mind that Rush and his supporters in the GOP are anything but "unpatriotic, America haters", his comments to McGough seal the deal.
Rush and his backers remind me of McCain. They keep stooping lower and lower and will eventually self-destruct.
Thanks Limbaugh, for knocking the Move-on ad hubbub out of the headlines. Yet another shining Michael Fox moment.
Also a shout-out to Media Matters http://mediamatters.org/ for staying on this story and not retreating.
Classy? Anyone who looks to Rush for an example of class probably looks to a horse to get milk.
A male horse.
Odds are: slim and none. Rush is a coward. He has never allowed dissenting views on his radio program all the way back to the 80's and he ain't gonna start now...
Rush's Dick is just big enough for the little boys he loves and seeks out.
Fanon @ 28:
It's the typical reich-wing mantra: never admit you're wrong and always claim you are taken out of context. When will these so called "liberals" on cable TV point this out?
Brian McGough then responded to Rush's latest outrage in this diary at DailyKos:
goatsage @ 30:
I recommend people donating to MMFA and/or moveon.org for not backing down from these arsehole reich-wingers. I dropped 50 last week to moveon.org; may do the same this week for MMFA. Money well spent.
Attacking policy is one thing, attacking Soldiers is something else. It is easy to have courage from afar. We do have free speech and Soldiers are dying to uphold it. Everyone has their right to their say; however...
Chickenhawk: a politician, bureaucrat, or commentator who strongly supports a war or other military action, but has never personally been in a war, especially if that person actively avoided military service when of draft age.
When I hear Rush Limbaugh speak of anything that has to do with Soldiers and War, as a Veteran this comes to mind immediately and I dismiss him … A pilonidal cyst is a cyst at the bottom of the tailbone (coccyx) that can become infected and filled with pus. Once infected, the technical term is pilonidal abscess. Pilonidal abscesses look like a large pimple at the bottom of the tailbone, just above the crack of the buttocks.
A better description does not exist.
justabill @ 35:
fantastic! shove this in the face of every troll who tries to defend limbaugh.
Take another pill Rush. Before the buzz wears off. Then hide in the safety of your studio and continue your program of sedition.
BTW, fucked any minors in the Dominican Republic lately?
Also yu do have the right to remain silent. Since you've given up that right, anything you have said will be used against you if you walk the streets.
In America, Rush, we support our troops. If you don't want to do that then GET THE FU*K OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!! Might I suggest following Halliburton to Dubai.
CNN just showed the ad. Ah Rush, you bit off more than you could chew this time.
Rush just shut up ! Clear Channel send the non-human for time out. He is clearly out of his head, he and Billo have their lists of people who are out to get them. I thought we put people like this away ?
Limp-Dick Blimpaugh @ 33:
then he will not be allowed to play in the big boys playgrounds in republican pay toilets!
I may get together with Shrub and knock over a few baby carriages this week. Get your own F'ing insurance kiddies!
Dr. Matt @ 34:
Um ... never. The media hasn't learned their lesson yet, and always proceeds from the belief that Limbaugh and the rest speak unassailable truth. Or they end up conceding a minor point and letting the rest slide.
off topic-but important bush just vetoed children's health care call the whithouse and let them know what you think of his veto billions for war but not one cent for our children!

DING DING DING DING! There's our winner for today.
you know i'm not threatening rush or encouraging anything like that but he has a well know face. there are lots of vets out there old and new. it's one thing when attacking the opinions and statements of officers--enlisted men have always done that--it's the american way sort of...but when you bash for whatever reason a good number of serving and former on the ground soldiers you really have put your foot in it.
my dad supported nixon but when soldiers came back from vietnam and started telling about the war as they saw it my dad's attitude changed gradually. he knew what it was like to be there. when he saw politicians in suits talk down their noses to soldiers, well he was a working class man and vet first, a republican second.
i would almost feel sorry for rush like i did imus, but like imus this is not one instance. imus didn't insult just those college basketball players; it was his m.o. and maybe this is the first time rush directed his ugliness at soldiers but there is a long list of this vile stuff. maybe like mccarthey he should have left the military alone...snoozing lions and all that.
This fat fuck is the reason we need the Fairness Doctrine. But we'll never get it, because these worthless senators and reps don't do anything except flutter and feather thier own nests.
If they cared, this war would be over, New Orleans would be flooded with National Guardsmen ready to rebuild.
They just keep voting for more money for Iraq and whining they don't have the votes. Who cares? Stand up for the right thing.
What kind of person considers Rush Limbaugh comedic? I suppose if you focus on the drivel that spews from his mouth, you might find him laughable.
Like a slug introduced to a massive dose of salt, Limbaugh is writhing in agony over his shrinking audience. I guess a number of 'dittoheads' are getting their cranial rectal inversion repaired. I hope this happy trend continues.
All good comments
But you might want to think about voting for Rush Limpbaugh's continued presence in our world with your wallet. Here is a list of his advertisers. Apparently they ALSO believe the troops are mindless drones who will believe anything they are told? Or perhaps they ALSO believe that the soldiers on the ground in Iraq are "Phony Soldiers"?
Why else would they continue to SPONSOR his program?
This is certainly not the first time Rush has spewed his insults towards soldiers that have served this country honorably. In past programs he has called Paul Hackett a "staff puke," and Sen John Kerry, a decorated Vietnam veteran, "a fraud," and "a total phony." All this from a chickenhawk who couldn't be more ill-suited to make any sort of comment about anyone who has put on a uniform for this country, for when it was his time to serve his country proudly, Rush Limbaugh didn't (and that's putting it nicely).
If someone can be a "phony soldier", then what would you call a dopeheaded, militaristic gasbag?
A Phony Patriot!
After reading about Brian McGough, I wrote this response to Rush:
Add me to a list that I am sure is quite long by now:
Impugning the intentions and motives of this decorated soldier for your own personal and political reasons is deplorable and cowardly. Why not meet Mr. McGough in person, thank him for his service, and listen to what he has to say? It can be a private moment, but I believe you owe him a public apology for what you said about him.
As for being somehow (allegedly) manipulated by MoveOn or some other (in your view) dark, nefarious force, you strip him of the dignity of his personal choice to speak as he will. If he didn't want to appear in the ad, don't you think he would have declined? A man brave enough to receive the Bronze Star ought to be granted, at least, that benefit of the doubt from you. He is a grown man, perfectly capable of thinking for himself. Give him the dignity that his service to this country entitles him to.

And CBS had a gushing segement on Jenna Bush and her work abroad with poor children (and her new book). I had the sound down, so I don't know if she was asked about her dad's stand on S-CHIP (but I doubt it).
ABC News reported about (and coined the phrase) "phony soldier", Jesse McBeth, who made unsubstantiated, sensationalistic claims about US troops engaged in various criminal acts in Iraq.
Rush's record regarding support for the troops is the stuff of legend:
> ...raises and contributes out of his own pocket millions of dollars to provide scholarships for the children of Marines and other personnel killed in action. There has never been an ideological test for that support. The Marines and their families needn’t agree with Rush’s politics to qualify. Instead, it is and it has always been an expression of heartfelt gratitude for service. <

It doesn't matter what Votevets.org does if this @sshole still has an audience.
"Rush’s record regarding support for the troops is the stuff of legend" says Sarcastically
A legend in his/your own mind, and if you are going to call ths posters here "crooks" you may consider linking to something other than the dishonst ramblings of the National Review.
blah, blah. blah
seriously @ 55:
goatsage @ 57:
Ah... so that's your educated and informed opinion based on real and documented facts, eh?
Admit it, it's just fun to bash Rush.
Why not try making a real, sunstantiated point in the political forum?
seriously @ 59:
Only if you learn to use spell check first.
seriously @ 55:
Sarcastically- Why not try making a real, sunstantiated point in the political forum?
And why not listen to to the entire UNEDITED version of Rush's blather rather than what you are spoon-fed?
seriously @ 55:
Ah. Standard 'someone else said it first' dodgeball from a conservative.
And how are Rush's words consistent with his supposed charity? Stuff of legend? Legends talk of heroic deeds, not mealy-mouthed hypocrisy wherein one freely insults soldiers and then 'gives millions' to assuage a guilty conscience.
As for the authors on this site, a dig at their integrity doesn't wash away the stain of Rush's words.
hey guys, here is a great blog by another of el druggos phony soldiers
http://armyofdude.blogspot.com/2007/09/real-deal.html
and please note the comments on the page from dittoheads
AF_Comm_Guy @ 8:
Bingo! That son of a bitch wouldn't last two seconds if confronted by a horde of mad-as-hell vets who have walked the walk and seen shit no one should see.
A pox upon Limbaugh and his ass-kissing dittoheads.
Limbo is finished. This will be his Waterloo
Oh and at 'sincerely'. I took the time to read the 'article' (read op-ed). Are we just to take the author's word that Rush does this? Show me where I can apply for said scholarship. I can't seem to find any 'proof' such a thing exists outside of this 'article'.
Ah... the ever-useful tactic of deflecting the argument to areas of non-importance.
Well, Strawberry, I'll work on hitting the "b" instead of "n" for "substantiated" if GoatSack will try not to leave any more "e"'s out of "dishonest".
Feelin' better?
Anyone here feel up to the task of defending this whole crapload of slander/libel against Rush? Someone able to talk in the broader scope and not simply taking two words out of context? or repeatedly parroting lame jokes about drug addiction?
rush limbaugh is no comedian!!!
Rush comparing an American soldier to a suicide bomber, an American who bravely served our country and suffered wounds from a suicide bomber's attack...that is SICK. For anyone to defend Rush now is laughable.
seriously @ 68:
No, apparently not even you can defend his actions.
Fat turds of the world unite
FOR SALE: Cheap!: EIB merchandise closeout
seriously @ 68:
Why. Rush dropped out of college, supports a war when he was too much of a coward to actually serve himself, has more money than he'll ever be ble to spend on Oxycontin, Viagra and underage prostitutes in the Marianas islands and yet is too lazy to hire a personal trainer. He's been married HOW MANY TIMES? He has no integrity, and really, really grosses me out, but yet attacks real men like Paul Hackett. So why should I waste my time on someone I have no respect for?
seriously @ 68:
Libel/slander requires the charge to be provably false. The transcript lays that to rest in a heartbeat, and the quick-and-dirty edit job by Limbaugh or his staff does not support his claim of being taken out of context, but rather his awareness that his words are, in fact, an insult to many courageous men and women who have capably served this country.
Honor, the same honor that Rush impugns, would call for honesty and an apology, yet he offers neither, just a hollow 'taken out of context' and complaints about those evil liberal media types.
As for Rush's great charitable works, the words 'limbaugh charity marines' yields nothing, though there is reference to a significant donation made to a leukemia/lymphoma charity, and a wikipedia reference to 'charity cigar auctions.' You'd think that 'millions' donated to benefit veterans would get greater play.
seriously @ 55:
Rush is on hilly-billy heaven, what can I say?
Limbo is on the radio now and he is just rambling. Sounds pretty pathetic. From what I'm hearing, I wouldn't be suprised if they pull the plug and send him on an extended vacation.
I think he'll eventually apologize. This is way bigger than him. His puppet masters will have no choice but to make him eat crow.
About time. Clear Channel and EIB have run their course - Thank God!
[Deleted. Off topic flamebait-Sitemonitor]
seriously @ 80:
What part of "WE HEARD THE ACTUAL RADIO SHOW UNEDITED!" do you not get? The 1:50 version not the 1:30 version Rush is pushing. For cryin' out loud.
Goebbels used to bring the doughnuts every morning . He was a good guy.
Gasbaugh's first line of defense is that McGough was fed "lies" about what the flaming Gasbaugh said and is mindlessly jawing for the camera. (Wow, way to respect the troops Rush!) But his meaning is abundantly, irrefutably clear from his own words, clips and transcripts of which are widely available online to check.
The patronizing notion that critics, particularly those behind whom war pornographers and right-wing assholes routinely hide behind during the Bush Dim Ages, can't "think for themselves", and being fed disinformation and sent out like windup toys is astonishing.
It's the first pushback when vets like McGough (or Cleland or Kerry) or a Gold Star Mom like Cindy Sheehan stand up and expose the lies. (Cindy also gets the sexist mentally unbalanced / shrill labels slapped on).
This even came up during Billawfel's foray into Harlem when one think that surprised him was all the black diners apparently in possession of their respective senses and thinking, independently, for themselves as if ... as if ... not sharing one brain or sump'n!
seriously @ 69:
Fact: he did use the term phony soldiers. Fact: he used the term minutes before he referenced McBeth.
Fact: He edited the tape to mislead his intent when using the phrase phony soldiers.
Fact: When you listen to the unedited tape it is clear he intended to smear any soldier that wasn't lockstep with his views. OK, meathead??
