Please help Project Bring Miracle

First Draft (h/t Diane)

Two weeks ago I posted about the Joseph family who lost their Lower 9th Ward home for the second time. Kellie Joseph and her 6 children lost their home to Katrina. The rebuilding of their home was nearly complete when it was tragically destroyed by a fire after someone abandoned a stolen car in their backyard and lit it aflame to destroy evidence. The flames engulfed the home.

A group of Tulane medical students who heard of this devastating news decided to help the family rebuild again and started a website called Hope in Grace for what is called Project: Bring Miracle. Recently the students contacted me. The online donation effort has reached a standstill after some initial local media attention. It is their hope to reach a wider audience through the Internet.

Here is where we can help. We as individuals and bloggers can not rebuild the great city of New Orleans but perhaps we can help to rebuild the home of one family that has now fallen through the cracks. The family had invested their Road Home grant of $138,000 to rebuild their home. That is now lost. Unfortunately the maximum they can receive from their insurance to rebuild their home a second time is $12,000. At this point, after donations and insurance, $132,000 is needed to rebuild the Joseph's family home. Donations can be made online to a rebuilding fund specifically restricted for use only in reconstruction.

Donations can be made HERE

I am told the children are losing hope that they will ever return home. Please consider making a donation.

Also there is a page where you can leave a much needed message of hope for the family-- LINK HERE.

This is the thing I love so much about being part of the blogosphere...it's easy to feel helpless and disenfranchised on your own...but together, a little effort from each one of us CAN make a huge difference.

Well... there are a bunch of us here in the UK contributing together, plus the US dollar is weak which makes things easier for us. Heres to a happy ending!

I hope everyone can donate to this worthy cause

[...] heart was touched today by the story of a family in New Orleans’ whose home was destroyed by Katrina. They did not give up and put $138,000 of $150,000 Road Home Grant toward rebuilding their home. [...]

Thank you Nicole so much for posting this.

The little girl in the photo is named Miracle. So you can see the name Project: Bring Miracle refers to bringing a miracle to rebuild the Joseph's home and also to bringing Miracle back home to New Orleans.

The donations are coming in (almost $5000 in 2 days) and the Joseph family is very grateful to everyone for their encouraging thoughts, prayers and donations.

We need to continue spreading the word and a big thanks to Crooks and Liars and the many other bloggers who have helped in this effort by posting the story.

We can make this happen, as Nicole said... together, a little effort from each one of us CAN make a huge difference.

Thanks for posting this, Nicole. I was sitting around feeling sorry for myself because of financial woes, and this really woke me up to how silly I was acting. I scraped together $10, and I hope they get lots more.

Donated. Thanks for the link. Have let others know. Hope the publicity -- and donations -- only grow.

It's about everyone doing a little bit.

Keep us posted.

Didnt they have home owners insurance on a $138,000.00 house. Jesus, this is a more expensive house than I have......wont someone help me with a new house. I will settle for just a $115,000 house. Please send donations to Jessie Jackson, 1 Affirmative Action Lane, New York, NY 85674

Reading (and spelling, and punctuation) is a skill that many barely possess. The article stated that the homeowner's insurance policy will only pay 12K on the second loss of the home--neither loss, by the way, was the result of the homeowner's negligence. I am assuming you reference "affirmative action" because the family in need of help is African American? Yet another clue to your conservative leanings is evidenced by your virulent anti-HUMAN stance and disavowal (by the way, that's not another word for "consonant") of Christian charity. Please blog elsewhere.

The Josephs' family? Then why is this little girl's last name Lewis? And why is the insurance company "fighting" the mother about the validity of the burned car in the back yard causing the fire. Makes one wonder, doesnt it? And due to "lost hope of returning to their home", her chidlren are getting into trouble.....seems more likely they were in trouble before the house burned. And by the way, how many different last names of children are their in this household? Makes one wonder, doesnt it?

Whatnoinsuranceforhome, may you and you family rot in hell, u sick SOB.

See you in Hell, god.
