Huckabee, behind in the polls and not wanting to be outdone by the "we must go to war with Iran" Giuliani campaign, went on Late Edition this Sunday morning and tried his best to prove he's just as capable of starting an unnecessary war based on bad intelligence as any other Republican candidate. Repeating the lie that Ahmadinejad said he wants to destroy Israel, Huckabee swears he will do "whatever it takes," and will not even rule out using tactical nukes in doing so.
Huckabee: "I think the President's right with trying to bankrupt them before we bomb them. That's a good way to start."
He also thinks that Saddam really did have WMDs. Just because we never found them yet doesn't mean he didn't have them; and if he's elected President, the first thing he's going to do is dig up the end-zone in Giants Stadium to look for them. (OK, I made that last part up, but not by much).

Does anyone have definitive information regarding the whole "wipe Israel from the map" issue? Of course the hawks say it was meant literally. But some argue it was meant to refer to redrawing a map with no recognized state of Israel because their statehood had been taken away by some other means than nuclear annihilation.

Isreal has one of the most advanced militaries in the world (thanks to us) and it is believed to have nuclear weapons. Isreal has also shown that it will take action if it feels threatened. It seems pretty clear that Isreal is quite capable of taking care of itself.

The sad truth is that Israelis should never have been resettled in the Middle East, in land belonging to Palestinians. The western powers knew that Israeli presence would forever keep the region in turmoil and from growing into a unitary power. Israelis have behaved for years against Palestinians like South Africa did toward blacks. Abuse begets abuse. The Jews were abused in Germany, now they abuse Palestinians in Israel. I think I understand what people like Ahmedinejad mean when they say Israel should be wiped off the map. They mean the Jewish state should not be where it is, that it should go elsewhere, anywhere out of the Middle East. It should never have been set up in 1948. It could have worked as long as Jews and Palestinians worked together. Mike Huckabee and all the leaders in America who are threatening war on Iran are war criminals in the same way Hitler was when he used to threaten and invade other nations with military force. The problems America's elite leaders have with Iran are of their own doing from the 1953 covert overthrow of a duly elected leader named Mohammad Mossadegh after he announced that the oil industry would be nationalized. Both the British and the United States said no to that and ordered a covert coup d'etat, using the CIA, to do so. Eisenhower was the president who ordered the coup in Iran in 1953. I am so tired of everyone praising Ike's "military-industrial complex" speech when he so utilized the CIA to overthrow Iran and Guatemala using the same war instruments used during the Cold War years. The CIA came under its own during the Eisenhower administration. Eisenhower's decision to overthrow the duly-democratically elected Mohammad Mossadegh still has ramifications to this present day.
So the next time anyone points to the "military-industrial complex" speech of Eisenhower, just understand, he too was a hypocrite, and his (Eisenhower's) remarks were directed at John F. Kennedy.
America has never been honest about its own international wrongdoings over the years, thus learning nothing. America uses its power in an irresponsible way, as well, which most of you likely know, by now.
Once the bombs drop as Iraq has shown, there is no turning back, as the chaos begins. The war aims of Germany in WWI, with their overwhelming power did not turn out in the end how they had it written down.

Israel has nukes, biological weapons and chemical as well. I know because doctors at Gaza hospitals have been complaining of "mysterious" diseases they haven't been able to treat after protesters were gassed with what they at first thought was tear gas, but later turned out to have some severe effects on the nervous system, triggering convulsions, high fever and heavy sweating in patients (especially children).

Well, here in red-state land, you have to get the premium package of channels to get msnbc (unlike Fox or CNN). most people around here have never seen the channel or have ever heard of KO. It's amazing Countdown has risen so far as it has in the ratings considering. I don't know how common that is across the rest of these red-states, but I'll bet it's not uncommon to find CNN and Fox News down in the low teen channels and MSNBC buried up in the 70s for the few who want to pay extra to get'em like it is here, and that KO's surge in popularity is statistically limited to audiences that electorally already favor the Democrats. There's a reason Murdoch kills all the other networks in the ratings, and just because his audience is older holds no promise for the short term. At least for the next decade or two. Seniors are much likelier to vote than KO's targeted age group, and I don't know that we will be able to recognize this country if we have to go through another 8 years with a Republican in the White House.

I do partially disagree that Iran's hatred for Israel is completely based on Israel's war mongering and it's treatment of Palestinians like Jews in Germany in the 1930's. There is a very large part that has to be attributed to the fact that Israel is the bootprint of Britain and the US in the middle east. I think that has as much to do with their hatred of Israel as Israel's documented torture, imprisonment and eradication of Palestinians.

On a different note, would you lot happen to know if Dynasty is being aired in Iraq already? I know that when the communism collapsed it was aired pretty much all over the post soviet states such as Check Republic, East Germany, Poland and so on, to show the western values and stuff. Sort of like the first Must-See American TV show for the new democratic capitalist societies without a clue. So, does anyone know if the Iraqis have the license? Iran is not a threat… sure they see an opening caused by Iraq to increase the power and influence of the Shia, which makes sense and I don’t blame them given the historic rivalry with the Sunni… Sure they are likely giving arms to Shia in Iraq as part of this, which are likely being used to kill Americans… although far more Americans are being killed by Sunni insurgents… also, name one instance where a Shia suicide bomber has killed Americans.. they are all Sunni and likely come from Pakistan, Egypt or Saudi Arabia..
Sure they want to be a bigger power in their sphere of influence…. that is their right…. as it is the U.S., China, Russian, etc….
