NYC Fire Chief: Giuliani 'Not Mr 9/11' 'Not a Hero' 'He Ran That Day'
John posted yesterday about how Rudy is now "trumpeting his leadership in the wake of 9/11 in campaign mailings to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire" despite claiming all along that he wasn't running on his 9/11 record. Dan Abrams had on FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches, whose group, 9/11 Firefighters and Families, vows to not let Giuliani get away with it.

What the Giuliani campaign is now outwardly touting as his strength could very well become his achilles heel. This is not the first NYC firefighter group to take on Rudy over his mishandling of 9/11. NYC has just launched an investigation into "how the FDNY ended up using faulty equipment during the terrorist attacks and why Giuliani gave a no-bid contract to Motorola for that equipment." And it's not like the Kerik indictment doesn't strike right at the heart of his 9/11 hero claims too. Kudos to Abrams for his use of videos by TPM and 'The Real Rudy' with proper credit in his show.
Attack his perceived strength. Unlike the Rovian tactic, this is a legitimate attack because the jackass has no business running as some kind of hero. Because of the radios alone, he's got blood on his hands. But maybe, like the Rovian tactic, it will work.

I think it was subtle, but crummy, that Dan Abrams asked if FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches if he was going to "put together a political organization like the Swift Boat group did..." There's a crucial difference: the Swifties were LIARS out to tar the good name and service of a legitimate hero, as opposed to Riches who's trying to clue America in on Giuliani's serial lying and self-mythologizing.

The media (especially Faux) will jam down our throats the comparison of 9/11 Firefighters and Families to Swift Boat Veterans For Truth. They'll say things like "Now, much like the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth tried to discredit John kerry's military service, the 9/11 Firefighters and Families organization is trying to discredit the reputation of Presidential candidate, and mayor of New York City on September 11, Rudy Giuliani."
What the media will NEVER mention is
a: Swiftboaters did a pretty dandy job of discrediting Kerry amongst the undecided swing voters, because they never did their effing job and called the Swiftboaters out on their lies. In fact, there's no evidence Kerry was the kind of soldier SBVFT-ers claim he was, and plenty of evidence to the contrary, he was the kind of soldier SBVFT-ers masturbate themselves to sleep over, wishing they had been more like him when the time called for it.
b: 9/11 Firefighters and Families have plenty of actual evidence that proves their case against Rudy.
And the irony will be lost on all in the media that, as the media pushed that analogy, what they're really saying is "Hey, remember those bullsh!t Swift boat liars we took on faith back in 2004? Whatever lies they told us about Kerry we tok as gospel and passed it along to you with no vetting process whatsoever? Well, we won't do THAT again, no sir! We all know from this Abrams clip what Guiliani failed to do on 9/11. Guliani is definitely no "hero" but that is not entirely the way he portrays himself to the public in my opinion. That first Guiliani statement basically says that. Guiliani instead, is touting the attacks themselves as his sole claim to fame almost as much as any Al Qaeda member associated with those attacks would do.
Rudy is running on one strength, 9-11. That's all he's got. If the firemen can shoot that down, he's toast. He's an empty suit. Swift boaters were hired guns, these firemen know what the hell they are talking about and they are speaking from the heart. Big giant difference.

Its just a horrible place to live these days isn't it? I'm a born and raised Manhattanite (Upper West) and I used to love going down to TSP and jackin up with some nice Horse. He was the beneficiary of federal funding that added 7,000 police officers to his city. Pretty easy to say you reduced crime when you had much more ammunition than your predecessors.
Not to mention that crime nationwide dropped throughout the 1990's as well as an economy that was off the charts. But, yeah, credit it all to one guy. Why the hell not?

Well, 'dude'. Dinkins didn't actually have the officers, he made the policy decision and secured the money that allowed Giuliani to hire the officers. You also don't have to be from NYC to know about Compstat because it (or versions of it) are in use in all major metropolitan areas. The question that is less important is whether Giuliani is "Mr. 9/11", but rather how will he act as the President of this country?
One only has to look at his statements, his advisers and make the firm conclusion that he will be dangerous for America and for the world.
