You may know of Phil Kline by his numerous appearances with Bill O'Reilly and his constant attacks on Planned Parenthood. You'd think he would have won his election against Paul Morrison because of all the free publicity, but he got defeated. Anyway, it looks like he's been caught being a crook and a liar.
The KC Blue Blog has more:
KCTV 5 Exclusive 8 month investigation into Johnson County DA Phil Kline has uncovered major news that is likely to force the DA to resign or be removed from office...read on
Here's more info on Kline....

Yes indeed Good Ol' KC
A reich-winger involved in wrong-doings?!?! Say it ain't so!!
No surprise--another "do as I say and not as I do" Republican. I hope they nail him.

Now THIS is a possible big victory. Forget Trent Lott's resignation. This criminal intiminated doctors who were doing their jobs and following state laws. I have zero tolerance for that. Add in the secrecy BS, and this guy should be behind bars.
Typical.
Excellent job by the television reporter covering that story.
What does #4's comments have to do with this post?
lol
That reporter deserves a medal. This is the sort of thing they should all be doing, but it takes the best of the best to do it.
I wonder if Mr. O'Reilly will claim that this is a "hit piece" by KCTV-5 in order to cover for his good friend, County Attorney Kline?
They think that they're above the law, and when caught typically are only sorry that they were caught, not that they did something wrong. We are still a society that wants to shame these crooks. Amen to that.
I am somewhat mixed about this story.
As a Kansan, I DESPISE Phil Kline. He puts his crazy right-wing agenda above service to the people. He should never have been put in office.
On the other hand, I really can't stand the local media's sensational "ambush interviews". This maybe the first time they have actually done any real news. Most of the time it's just covering house fires, murders and chasing stories about perverts lurking in YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
Thought this kind of reporting was dead. Bravo.
All I have to say is that the investigative reporter keep up the great work and watch his back...
the people he is investigating are power hungry lunatics that will do anything to keep that power.
These crooks don't understand -- if you're going to scheme, steal, lie and cheat the system, keep a bloody low profile.
John, thanks for the post. These shenannigans happen all too often from politicians regardless of party. In SF, they are prosecuting a Supervisor for lying about where he lived.
Living in L.A., Mr. Amato should even be aware of Yvonne "Brentwood" Burke's own residence questions.
The LA Times did an investigation where they followed her from her home in Brentwood to the edge of her district where she met a chauffer at a house she rented in order to claim residency. At the end of the day the driver would take her back to the house where she would pick up her car, and drive herself back to her home in beautiful Brentwood. They even had great video of the whole scam.
Here's the article:
http://www.topix.net/content/trb/2007/07/burke-has-residence-far-removed...
Interesting to note how the original story with video has been scrubbed from the Times' website though. Looks like MiniTrue has been hard at work.
1. Would we be in Iraq right now if we had reporters like this working at every TV station across the country?
2. Reporter: "Would you vote for him?"
Neighbor: "Sure, he's a hero!"
Really? A hero? Apparently, crooks and liars are now days considered heroes. How sad.
abbey @ 13:
This kind of reporting does happen... but it only happens on a local level, as local news teams like to dig up dirt on people. You'll never see anything like this on the national level, though... especially if it involves a Republican.
Investigative work? Reporting? Information and FOI suit? WTF???
I am shocked I tell you that there is actually someone somewhere stil doing authentic journalism!
Great ivestigative work
in lieu of something profound to say, allow me to state for the record... tee hee hee. :)
LOL ... I'll bet O'Rielly will be spinning this one for hours. Yep, the Librul press and blogs have done it this time.
I don't watch any of this but I can't wait to see what the reaction will be.
Rock on people.
When KCTV-5 Station manager gets a mysterious call, that heroic reporter will be working at starbucks. And this clown is doling out justice?
It's not just that the media is or isn't leading with these kinds of stories, it's that the public has failed in terms of critical thinking. When the media doesn't ask questions, we should.
And we also ought to consider that those we elect to be our leaders are increasingly turning out to be people we wouldn't trust in a room alone with our children, invite to dinner, or consider as a friend. Stripped of the protective veneer of their office, we need to see them as they are: criminals - and not only scam artists, but child molesters.
It's time to stop putting any of these people on pedestals. They are elected leaders, placed in positions of importance and trust, and when they betray that trust, they need to be removed.
Ho-hum...(sigh)... Another day, another lying right-wing hypocrite bastard caught in the act...This time, this one was hiding behind a D.A. title...So much for the efficacy of law enforcement and the judicial system nowadays... ( I'm just waiting for the water-works and mea-culpas begging gee-auuds forgiveness I'm sure will soon follow).... And I don't even really care what the details are anymore... It all runs together after awhile... This time, some D.A., last week, that politican, and over there was/is a right-wing wacko pundit caught with his pants down or taking narcotic drugs while villifying some kid with a joint... The only common thread seems to be the (r) beside their name noting political leanings or party affiliation.... It's all the same ol same ol...
If I had to guess? In no particular order, probably one or maybe a combination of the following possibililties..
1. Political money scam with lying about it at the heart of it..
2. Personal failings involving lying about sexual preferences while in a marraige.. Bonus for some kind of public men's room connection with strangers or office buddy.
3. Some disgusting bit of perversion involving either young boys or girls... in the office, at home or in a church....bonus for using his title to force cooperation in satisfying this perverse need..
4. Some kind of political scam involving the cover up of a crime by other right-wing political hacks... bonus for a kickback angle..
double bonus for using scam to get others of his ilk appionted or elected to high office... Kickback assumed in this scenario.
Whatever it is??? Really doesn't matter... Could be any number of other schemes too... For the poster who questioned what post number 4 had to do with this thread??? Ronnie opened the floodgates way back in the 80s. The floodgates of perverse very nearly in our faces thumbing their noses at the outrage...types of criminal and immoral acts by politicians at all levels of government that we live with and see revealed very nearly on a daily basis now...That's what it has to do with this thread, that's why its relevant.
Errol, I don't know how old you are and I ain't about to say that graft and corruption hasn't been with us from day one.. But I am saying this level we see today and the open and craven manner in which it is purpetrated these days, is at an all time high for our lifetimes... And Reagan was the one who started us down this path... Leading the parade of this current corruption despite or maybe because of his alzheimer addled mind... So, yea, it bears repeating and pointing out and Mr. Swinney did a pretty damned good job of itemizing it all............JD
I thought most of us voted against Kline in 2007... Oh that's right, his good ol' buddies let him in the back door.
Biggus Diggus @ 15:
SHHHHHH! DuuuuuUuude! Don't give 'em any idears!
If your whole political philosophy is "government doesn't work and is inherently corrupt", why would you pursue a career in government? Because you don't intend to do anything but steal money, that's why.
That's why so many of these right-wing politicians seem so incompetent. They don't take their posts seriously.
Looks like he had criminal inklineations all along.
Oh Y.S.... good one dude... heheheheh JD
Looks to me like he's had a visit from Madam Karma.
We need to surge these type of reporters.
Refreshing and hopeful for a dim media future
So read the rest of the story... Ahhh yes, the old live in one area, throw your weight around in another while holding office against local political rules... This jerk and Ed Jew (SF sup) ought to get together and compare legal notes.... Apparently they got a lot in common... Christ, this is soooo simple and yet.... Hold legal office some area.. Fucking LIVE THERE!!!! an yet..... whatever.... Maybe we should all be relieved that he wasn't buggering a little boy in his little 'rent a shack for convenience' scam............JD
ChrisM70 @ 12:
Join the club. You think local news anywhere is good anymore? HA! I thought that KCTV piece was damn near worthy of an award. We here in the PHX get NOTHING EVEN APPROACHING that level of effort, detail, and expense to wrap up into an engaging, true local story. All we have to look forward to is Arpaio running his mouth about pink underwear and "the illegals", and then passing references to Renzi's corruption.
That said, Kline is not deserving of his office. They always quote, as a retort, how much better a job he's doing compared to his predecessor (the supposed 5% increase in convictions or whatever). But any thinking person should find a level of uncomfortability in that. Is Kline truly that good, or is he simply spending less mental effort to cram stuff through the courts and puff up his resume? His work hour tally leads me to believe he's more interested in the latter.
You jackin' it?
Titty, meet wringer!!!
fuck the Randall Terryites who claim to care about unborn children then vote against SCHIP and headstart
ChrisM70,
Re: ambush reporting: here is a public official who refuses to be interviewed. He isn't simply a celebrity, he is supposed to be accountable to the county he works for. Should the press not do their job and simply throw up their hands, would that be better?
Re: investigative reporting. It is expensive. For instance, how much did it cost to have at least one person with a camera staking out Kline's supposed county residence for many hours for weeks on end? It was becoming certain that those people were not going to see him but they needed to do this anyway. The station had to sue to get pubic records, there were other stakeouts. The research here was extensive, especially for a local station to do. They probably needed to get funding from their network affiliate to cover some of the costs. How often do you expect your local station to spend this kind of money on stories? I think they chose wisely and put their focus on one very important story that might make a difference in the community.
We see so much less investigative journalism because laws that require news rooms to perform the public services that they are supposed to in exchange for their broadcasting license. We wouldn't have half the corruption we have now if we can get back to the old standard where for decades news rooms ran in the red while the rest of the network paid for them to do their lawfully required duty.
I think after all the effort put into this report, Ash-Har Quraishi certainly earned the right to walk up to this DA in his car and ask him some questions. Good on him!
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine iiiiin!
Hypocrites and trolls BURN when light is cast upon their filthy deeds!
(heehee!)
how about insurance fraud? registering their car in city that neither lives in...
Erroll @ 7:
number fours telling you reagan was a bonafied shit for brains moron repig, and ill attest to that!
nj @ 39:
You know they get lower rates for not being in the city.
Voter fraud. Securing an address merely for voting purposes. Job fraud-you MUST LIVE in the county to hold this job. Not just have an addy at the local storage place.
What a fine example of an enforcer Johnson county has.
Pauly @ 37:
Oops, meant to write:
Where's my editor!?
tyree @ 40:
Ray Gun made me ill too.
Good thing I can't remember most of the 80's.
miss_kitty @ 35:
I didn't know girls gave each other purple nurples.
Pauly @ 42:
Pauly ... the law requires the station to meet those criteria, not the newsroom. That's usually met by x amount of children's programming and/or community-oriented programs that air on Sunday mornings.
All stations are required to maintain a 'public file' with this information, and you should be able to check that information upon request.
pissed off patricia @ 30:
Does she keep client records like the Washington Madam?
And I ain't talking no akashic neither.
Shadowgm @ 23:
Well Said!! Thank you.
His next reincarnation will be teaching law at the christo-fascist pretend college Patrick Henry.
Ah, but did they stake-out the teleporter that links the crummy apartment to the Topeka residence? As I mentioned at that KC Blog, I often live with my family in a crummy apartment over a storage facility while maintaining a phony residence in another city so I can impress my friends with my nice house while remaining true to my humble origins. And unless KCTV knows of some hidden tunnels connecting the two (which seems quite unlikely due to the distance), they most assuredly used a teleporter to get around.
Why that didn't seem obvious to KCTV clearly shows their anti Kline bias. They should be ashamed and owe Kansas City a big apology. Nothing to see here, folks. Just a man teleporting his family between cities in order to raise them with proper values. We should be praising Kline; not burying him.
You know, politicians successfully get away with this stuff, because we the people of this great land have forgot, or just become to scared to bring down upon the corrupt the wrath of God and his people.
So he actually lives in the same town where Fred Phelps and the God Hates Fags idiots live -- Topeka. That must be a$$hole central!!
That reporter better be careful. With a name like that, it may not be wise to be going after Cons lest he end up in Gitmo.
Doctor Biobrain @ 49:
So it's a fortress of Solitude..Kansas style?
Doctor Biobrain @ 49:
Read the article.
KCTV monitored the apartment and saw no indication that Kline or his wife lived there. Similarly, they were able to follow them to the Topeka address on multiple occasions.
Residency requirements of office refer to a primary residence, i.e. the place you live on a day-to-day basis; there is no indication that Kline occupies his little apartment. Since he's renting it for $400 from a 'Kline supporter,' there's no one to say, 'Hey, I'm renting an apartment to a city official who doesn't actually live there!'
Wow! Blog and TV reporter working together.
Nice job.
Dr. Matt @ 2:
Let me guess he's still in office and the people don't care and aren't doing anything ......... oh wait I see a trend now ........
He must be a "pinhead" to quote the FAB-U-Lous Bill O'Reilly...
JerryM @ 56:
Politicians have gone lower on the totem pole than used car salesman...."Hello folks !...It's E Buzz Miller here and I want you to elect me and if you do you get and extra year on your true coat undercarriage warranty"
Closet gays, adulterer's, thieves, liars, plutocrats, war profiteers, and child molesters....a virtual wing at San Quentin.
Shadowgm @ 54:
Uh-oh, time to buy a new sarcasm detector.
May him pay the salary back or charge him with theft.
He's a right winger, a Republican. By definition he is therefore a crook, a liar and a scumbag.
Just another pompous liar and fraud from the Repub. party of "family values" !
Paul @ 61:
And in office while the "people" believe he's doing a perfect job .........
Are there any elected officials in your country (and probably most countries) that aren't somehow a bit scummy?? The whole world should collectively kill this collective batch, and say only honest folks need apply to replace them (or else).
D to the Izzle @ 51:
Actually, I can think of about 25 entire States that foot that bill. Some moreso than others.
Kinda like dickless chinless not knowing if he's from Texas or Wyoming.
Here he's getting his heart restarted:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szElBqev5EI
Y.S.
Yea.. heard about that yesterday too.... Too damned bad about that restart bidness... Someone shoulda upped the voltage and the current too, left it on and walked out...Personally don't think a jury in the world would convict on that... Hell, someone ought to help that prick even out his karma.. He's obviously too damed evil to do the decent thing and up and die on his own...... Hey, jus sayin, not advocatin... That wouldnt be nice......And heaven knows we all want and need to be nice to those S.O. er ehh, people....JD
Piss on Kline!
Just one more neocon crook. Nothing new here. He should be working for the chimp, he'd fit right in.
Is there no end to these white collar criminals?? They aren't ALL repugs, but certainly a higher percentage of repugs are criminals...that's a given!
I hope they don't let up on this thug. What a piece of shit.
miss_kitty @ 41:
Kline and Ann Coultergeist have a lot in common. They should get together for coffee. What the hell ever happened in her voter fraud case anyway? Apparently it's disappeared down the GOP memory hole. If it had been a Democrat pundit, we'd still be hearing about it, or else the fraudster would now be serving time.
Apparently the old tried-and-true rules are only for Democrats. Republicans just make them up as they go along.
I think part of colter's case was dismissed, but another part on going.
Of course her zomboids claim it's all liberal activist judges.
A few months ago Kline tried to force emergency room and clinical laboratory personnel to collect blood samples from people in custody even though they refuse. That could get us charged with assault - (the patient/arrestee has the right to refuse, and that amounts to a guilty plea and forfeiture of license at trial) - and if the patient resists and the venipuncture resulted in nerve damage, we could be liable for damages. A whole bunch of us PRN and agency types who his get-tough law would have compromised professionally informed our respective HR departments that we would not be covering any shifts in Johnson County so long as he was enforcing that unconstitutional position.
Here is the video of the investigation: http://www.kctv5.com/video/14701264/index.html
Quite damning.
Look at the dummy supporters he has at the end of the clip. Typical right wing ignorant fools.
These are the idiots that plotted and hurded The Republican Crime Syndicate and the Bush/Cheney Junta into power.
Freaks like this should NEVER be allowed to vote!
I stopped the video when the e-mail asked 'who are you to ask' (i paraphrase). Ummmm only a lowly taxpayer that PAYS YOUR FUCKING SALARY DICK WAD. Ummm That's who is asking.
David Hawes @ 75:
I saw the whole video. And I was outraged at the email and at his moron fans. Throw the Bum OUT!
As a JC Democrat, I can only hope that more JC voters open their eyes and start electing more Democrats, especially Rick Guinn, who is running for Phill Kline's (yes, it's 2 L's in his name) DA seat. We need to re-elect Congressman Moore, our three incumbent State Representatives; we also need to get Roberts out of the Senate.
ChrisM70 @ 12:
Great job Ash har ! This is a man doing his job. Oh, and wtf is up with that hecht guys eyebrows ? Was it just the clip or is that how he really looks ?
I like Atrios' nickname for him The Panty-Sniffer
Thats what happens when you ruffle too many feathers.
I live in Wichita, Ks. and Kline is a pain in our asses. He was beat out by Morrison, who became a Democrat just to run this guy out of town. Morrison has been a great Democrat and I'm happy he pushed Kline out as Attorney General, and hopefully, Kline will be out of politics all together very soon.
Gosh, Phil lies? He is a nasty sex obsessed little man who literally drove moderate Republicans into the arms of the moderate Dems in Kansas. I live a few blocks from Kansas and this guy is beyond right wing. The most successful prosecuting attorney in Kansas was Paul Morrison. After Kline lost the election (by a big margin) for atty general in Kansas to Morrison, Kline's nasty little trolls manipulated the appointment of a new prosecuting atty and basically pulled a coup in that office. he came in and fired - without cause - 8 experienced attorneys leaving the cases they were working on - hanging. Since stealing that office, firing the staff, he then started prosecuting Planned Parenthood - same thing he spent all his time doing as Attorney General. Today, he spent the day on "Christian" radio stations attacking the messenger. Now he's accusing the reporter of following his teenage daughter. It's going to be fun to watch him fall. Since we aren't impeaching the big guys, we can at least use ol Phil.
Johnson County is the largest urban area in Kansas - it's a big office and he's destroyed it. He's a joke who spends little time in the office - lots of time doing politics and speaking on right wing radio. He's even more despicable than - dare I say it - Rush Limbaugh. I don't know if voter fraud is a felony in Kansas, but we can hope. Both he and his wife registered to vote in Johnson County while living in Topeka. Such a karmic kinda thing. If I was a better person - I wouldn't be doing this happy dance over this. But, apparently my character has a ways to go, cause I've got my tap shoes on over this one. It just couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
First of all, his name is Phill Klein, not Phil.
Second, this isn't the first time he's been nailed on corruption. He hired his nephew as his driver when he was Attorney General and silly him, he misspelled his nephew's name. Only he got caught that time, too.
If you will look closely, in every picture of Phill Kline his eyes are open unusually wide, which otherwise I only notice in psychopaths. What impresses me most about him is his arrogance.
During Kline's campaign for Kansas Attorney General, a former chairman of the Kansas Republican Party told me of Kline "he ought to be in jail" and asked me to help Kline's Democrat opponent, Chris Biggs. Clearly, half of his own party hates him.
I live here in Johnson County, Kansas and Phil is an embarrassment and a disgrace.
He was not elected here. He was appointed after Morrison took Phil's job by a 2 to 1 margin in a majority Republican state.
You may assume that Phil is a right-wing crusader, but he may not be anything but a simple fraud. He spends his time grandstanding rather than doing his job.
I'm not the least bit surprised that he's pulling this way too obvious stunt with the apartment when he still lives in Topeka.
Phil Kline is an asshole who thinks his only job is to close the local Planned Parenthood down.
this reporter has a future!!! someone at NBC news please hire him to replace David Shuster when he takes over for the unfortunate TUCKER!!! detailed, focused and understandable investigation with a simple premise: hypocracy and corruption. WELL DONE.
Kline attacks Planned Parenthood because he knows that if his parents had had 'Cognitive Awareness' (and a bit of prescience), they'd have flushed him, wrapped in his own personal scumbag.
Kline: "Rules and regulations are only for little people........like you Hadji"
Why do people defend political figures when someone in the media actually does their job? People tend to forget that these people's salary comes from the taxpayers, and unfortunately, not enough tax-payers are questioning their public figures and if someone in the media questions them, they get crucified? We already have an example when the media did not do their job - had they done it, we would not have been in this War right now. Now that someone is doing their job and questioning the corruption, the messenger is being shot down?
News media has forgotten how to ask 'REAL' questions. This piece was a breath of fresh air, because it did ask those questions, and for those people who condemn the reporter and Channel 5, you should remember that this would have been a non-news story, only if Phill Klein had sat down and provided all the information that they requested, which he refused to do 4 times. If you are not doing anything wrong, then you should have nothing to hide, and he clearly does NOT want to answer those questions, so there MUST be something he is hiding. Should we let him continue without knowing the truth? what is more important? Truth or political affiliations?
"Let them eat cake." precursor to another revolution, we pay taxes to give health care to them and they tell us " get your own" , Do as I say not as I do, and on and on it goes. But did you notice the owners of the apartment, how easily she lied and how he said the guy was a hero? It's not hard to mislead the stupid.
nj @ 39:
Great point- I think we should first send KCTV5 Kudos for hiring this reporter and praise their work. The we need to include this question of insurance fraud when writing to the reporter directly.
I have read the KC Star front to back the last two days and they have printed not one word about this story, yet they report daily the story of this jerk's (it makes me nauseous to say or write his name) jihad of an investigation of Planned Parenthood. Another example of the uselessness of the MSM. Hopefully, jerks like this and their sheep will self-destruct and eliminate themselves from the political landscape. Hope is all I have left other than utter contempt for government and the used-to-be fourth estate.
IF that MORON shows up near my house
I ll throw some infectous barth in him
Most people if you consider politicians human beings) from Johnson County Kansas act the way this guy did. Just like most KU fans are pompous arrogant jerks. They are also sore losers. You should see how they act in Person. Most of them still can't grasp the fact KU lost. And when you bring it up, they want to fight or argue with you.
I just want to say, please don't judge Kansas City Missouri, based on what people do five minutes on the other side of the State Line (KS).
There is Kansas, (and the rich and snoody suburbs, 5 to 10 mins. away) and then there Kansas City, MIDDLE OF THE MAP! The heart of the Nation with and what makes it a nice place to visit.
Come to Kansas City. See how much you do in Kansas, unless you like NASCAR.
Another smelly hypocrite exposed.
L.A. Confidential @ 1:
Excellent!!! Now do a story on corrupt judges please. http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Lnaturalgas.htm
Impressive reporting! I wish we would see more of this in national media.
I have read the KC Star front to back the last two days and they have printed not one word about this story
Gee, what a surprise.
The Star is solidly in the pocket of the political establishment and spends most of its efforts toadying to the powers-that-be. Once in a while, one of their reporters will write something that doesn't suck up to obnoxious pricks like Kline, but it doesn't happen very often.
Hey, Ace, the word is snooty, not snoody. Please spell it correctly if you insist on tarring innocents with the conservative brush.
Given the relative wealth along the Ward Parkway corridor and around the Plaza, I'm thinking that perhaps having a tantrum over the "rich suburbs" is a bit hypocritical. What, you say most people in KCMO don't have the money of the folks living on the Parkway? Gee, guess what? Most of the people on the Kansas side of the line don't have the money, either!
Lord, isn't it bad enough that some of us live in a state that has been inflicted with the psychotic likes of John Brown, Fred Phelps, and Phill Kline? Do you have to assume we ALL have bad attitudes? After all, the VOTERS in Johnson County have given Kline the heave-ho more than once. The man's got more political lives than a cat.
And after all, Missouri isn't innocent. After all, Rush Limbaugh is YOUR fault.
