This Week: Holy Huckabee!

Mike Huckabee's stunning rise in the polls of likely Republican voters in Iowa is causing more than a little concern among the This Week with George Stephanopoulos roundtable panel of George Will, Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson. Even George Will sees Huckabee as a potential theocrat that defies the very foundation of why this country was founded.
George and Company agree that Huckabee has a lot of negatives that Romney should be slamming him with now if Mitt hopes to stay a viable candidate. Look, when you have George Stephanopoulos advising Mitt Romney to go negative in the days between now and the January 3rd Iowa primary, you know it's gonna be a bumpy December.

Peace on Earth, Please.
As for you and your faith, keep your faith to yourself in the presence of God. The man is to be congratulated who does not pronounce judgement on himself in what his actions sanction. -- Romans 14:22
Huckabee is a sinner for touting his faith, as are all evangelicals.

Could reducing non-Republican votes to 3/5ths of a vote actually provide for a truer democracy in America?:
A. Absolutely. Non-Republicans actually have on average 40% less patriotism than Republicans.
B. Without a doubt. And it is what the Founding Fathers intended.
C. I would raise it to 4/5ths of a vote if the non-Republican has actually killed someone in a war--even accidentally.
Bush is a theocrat, too. The sumbitch thinks God is talking to him, amongst other things. In short, Huckabee isn't too theocratic for these individuals; they simply don't like the man and are doing a one-eighty in order to try to justify their partisan support of Mitt "Dog goes on car!" Romney or Rudy "Seriously, there's just way too many things I can put here at this point" Giuliani. All of this talk is proof that both the Democrats and Republicans have picked out their New Ideal President way in advance and simply force their will upon the damn nation.
Hmm..I wonder if Pat Robertson is kicking himself over his endorsement of Rudy G. ;)
Yecchabee is just another "religious" fraud who has deluded himself into believing that he represents genuine spirituality. To him, "religion" is just another tool to use to promote a respectable "image" among his cult like following. Looks like that phony veneer of "respectability" will wear off mighty quick.
That is to say, the Democrat and Republican lobbyists, media representatives, et al., have picked out the new President way in advance.
If I only had the repub candidates to chose from, after Ron Paul, I would choose Mike Huckabee. Is that getting it wrong?
If the Repugs pick Huckabee, they get what they deserve.
I want a Pres who who can and will grow in office.
Not someone who is perfect today.
But someone who can become better than he or she was yesterday.
Who is this person?
They have no idea of the Ron Paul tsunami about to hit.
Freedom lives!
Ron Paul in 08!
It's so fitting that the folks in Iowa, who have given us crappy dem choices in the primaries, now are fucking up the republicans. It's not their fault though, if the rest of the nation follows their lead, it's just the way sheep behave.
I don't think it matters a whole lot who the GOPers nominate. they're going to get their asses handed to them in 2008.
Incidentally, I'm not the Paul @ 2.
Whom do I trust to devote him- or herself to save America?
I'll put it in the negative. Not Hillary, not Romney, not Guiliani.
I like the rest in terms of saving America.
Justin Case @ 12:
The Ron Paul faithful smack of effort.
Shawnmeat @ 4:
That's all BULLSHIT, Shawn. Don't buy the propaganda.
Bush knows ZERO about his supposed faith, just like he is afraid of horses but owns a ranch.
Justin Case @ 12:
Elimination of a woman's medical rights in 08!
Elimination of all international warcrimes treaties in 08!
Elimination of all environmental restrictions on industry in 08!
Elimination of all restrictions on coal, oil, and nuclear in 08!
Button down conservatives have spent decades breathing life into their evangelical political monster, suddenly they fear it, as well they should.
Romney is supposed to 'smack down' Huckabee over his excessive religiosity?
Isn't that a a bit like Goering denouncing Hitler as being 'a bit too Nazi'?
VietVet8666 @ 15:
If someone were to change in office, to grow and become what people demand (whatever that may be?), As much as I hate to admit, Hillary is the best shape-shifter, but Edwards seems like the most principled shape-shifter.
Paul @ 13:
In a legal election, true. However, it would be MUCH better to run against (H)uckabee than Romney, and against (H)uckabee than 9iu11iani.
So...GO (H)uckabee!
Justin Case @ 11:
Three cheers for RP's anti-war stance.
And about three hundred boos for everything else he stands for.
We do not need another so-called christian conservative in the White House. Period.
The infusion of religion and politics is destroying our country. If you do not follow their beliefs they consider you less than worthy. Look at whats happening with Romney.
Just spread the word among Republicans that Huckabee is just Jimmy Carter with an R next to his name.
+Talk about how much he raised taxes as Governor.
Gregg @ 12:
And just like pigs to point it out.
Referring to people as animals may make you feel better, but it's a bad analogy.
Bookem Danno @ 22:
Does that include his stance about what a sham the war on drugs is?
Even George Will sees Huckabee as a potential theocrat that defies the very foundation of why this country was founded...no worries there mr will, he will not become president.
vrk @ 26:
No, but it does include his WAR ON PENNIES.
And his desire to put nuclear power plants all over America is just gravy.
There's nothing to be done about Huckabee's startling rise in the polls.
IT'S 'GOD'S' WILL. HE DOES HAVE A SADISTIC SENSE OF HUMOR.
Of course, we can look forward to later this winter, when the Devil's going to kick him in the ass and dump him down the old 'poll chute'.
ON 'GOD'S' ORDERS.
KEEP THE FAITH.
Again folks just spread the word among Republicans that Huckabee is just Jimmy Carter with an R next to his name.
+Talk about how much he raised taxes as Governor.
Phuckabee is a rainman. A snake oil salesman. A charlatan.
Quite a telling video in that Donaldson was talking about how scary Huckabee is because he wants this country a theocracy and Cokie is talking about the horse race and the fact that if he wins Iowa he still has to win elsewhere blah, blah, blah. She seems completely unfazed by the underlying issue of all this. Just another display of how out of touch these inside the beltway talking heads really are. Well, most of em.
It would be really cool to see the Mormon and Fundie wingnut drop all this pretense and go at each other as their religious doctrine dictate. Unfortunately, they will both continue to be two-faced and skip that grand experiment.
Wow! What is Cokie Roberts on? Her eyes are really really creepy!
America hearts Huckabee?
Don't get excited folks, republicans are running for office, based on 20% of the country voting for one of those ass holes. They know not to depend on more then 2% of the black vote and may be the Latinos, may be a little nicer, with 18%, as a high figure and the white vote is also an issue for them and all others %30, no matter how they promote hatred and racism to keep all of us at odds. We seem to see the light and that is real bad for this administration and all of it's cronies.
However the numbers for Democrats, it seems is 80% for the lessor of evils. All of the Democrats are beating the hell out of ALL the republicans. Democrats have much higher numbers over Republicans, then media wrongly spews out, yet many of them also will be put to the task of demonstrating, why they should serve in office.
We need to demand they give the true figures, based on the numbers of supporters committed to these campaigns of both parties, if they dare to end the campaign for the right wing crimminals, they continue to promote.
80% of this country,of all walks of life, seem to be in agreement, that serious changes need to be made and many people need to be dealt with, either now or in the here after. It has to be done for the betterment of this country.
So unless the bastards are planning to somhow steal another election, they are up shits creek, without a paddle.
Justin Case @ 11:
agreed. Neither do the Democrats realize it either.
So the way Iowans see it Jesus sees favor in Iowa and f**k all the rest of the world. Good Christian thinking.
Paul in LA @ 17:
You're a moron.
It would take a Congress to legislate all that.
None of that would happen with Ron Paul in the White House.
What would happen is that Ron would end the wars, withdraw the troops, end the Empire.
None of the others - save Kucinich would roll back ANYTHING.
Truth B Told @ 37:
You mean the Ron Paul sea breeze is about to hit.
In the last 48 hours Obama drew a crowd of 30,000.
Ron Paul couldn't draw a crowd of 10,000.
CD @ 40:
No, Oprah drew a crowd. Obama was the appetizer.
Truth B Told @ 41:
They may have come as Oprah fans but they left as Obama supporters.
Truth B Told @ 39:
You really think that the power structure of the Repub party (that Paul belongs to) would just sit back and watch Paul end the war?
And brand the Repub party as "losing" the Iraq "War" and going against their own base?
Seriously?
And they thought they had to worry about Ron Paul.
Too funny.
*
The screen shot says "Huckabee rising" ~
Is that anything like "Mojo rising?"
*
Otay @ 43:
Perhaps not. But backing Paul or Kucinich is the ONLY thing that will force the issue. All the other candidates are corporate shills. They belong to the same damn party, but with two different names.
If you are going to change the course in Washington, you have vote outside of the box that the ruling elite and media monopolies want you to vote. That means voting 180 degrees to what they want. And the elites and the media absolutely DO NOT WANT YOU TO VOTE FOR THEM.
thats why they ignore the two best men in the race.
Become radical in you thinking.
Truthseeker @ 5:
God and Robertson are probably in conference as we speak.
*
Jesusturnedwaterboardingintowhine @ 3:
you forgot:
D. Boys!!!!
Scott @ 32:
Yes. I love how none of them mentioned the glaring, brutal and simple fact that Huckabee is a fucking idiot. This is just Chris Matthews with a slightly higher vocabulary.
ron paul is trending second or 3rd.
i can't wait till you have to wake up and realize the truth.
seems like crooks and liars plays the MSM game too.
Paul in LA @ 28:
Paul, as a pseudo-humble boy from Ottawa, Canada, I gotta thank you for being here to offer up these points about Ron Paul his rabid internet supportors seem to conveniently ignore. Ron Paul combines the worst elements of conservatism and the worst elements of libertarianism; it's simply a lucky coincidence that that puts him against the occupation of Iraq.
Huckabee Rising.
Raised by a cult in the dark woods of Arkansas.
The comet Holmes foretold his coming.
Now he stirs from his dreaming slumber.
Ready to slouch towards the White House.
Huckabee Rising.
The terrifying new horror film coming soon to a
campaign near you!
Folks, of course George F Will is ripping Huckabee. George F Will is a big money conservative. Huckabee is a religious populist.
In some ways Huckabee is a worse threat to the Republican party than any Democrat out there. If he wins the big money conservatives are screwed -- they won't have a political party to belong to.
That's why all the economic elite, Republican and Democratic, are gunning for him. If he wins the republican nomination then the current system of playing social factions off against each other while robbing the country blind is history.
As a fervent democrat, I say that I would rather have Huckabee than Romney.
when mouth-breathers attack each other this week on republican safari
ronpaulFTW @ 50:
Seems like someone can't deal with the fact that Ron Paul isn't in second or third.
I can't wait till you have to wake up and realize the truth.
Truth B Told @ 39 "I am a Ron Paul supporting moron."
"It would take a Congress to legislate all that."
No Congress will ever have to.
Truth B Told @ 46 "Perhaps not. But backing Paul or Kucinich is the ONLY thing that will force the issue."
Kucinich has already forced the issue -- it went nowhere.
Ron Paul will just be ANOTHER PRO-CORPORATE REPUBLICAN CLOWN. Now, forever.
And if you don't think that R. Paul's policy of removing commercial controls (and pollution controls with them) isn't corporatist, then you don't think.
Will somebody please just choke ol'Cokie? She needs a bag of really big pretzels, of course those beads will do too. Sam Donaldson, do you want to make the most important journalistic contribution of your career? Go on Sam, I know you're tired of her too!
VietVet8666 @ 10:
No one running, at least on the Repig side.
Arkinsaw @ 34:
I know. And I couldn't stop looking at all of their HAIR. It's laquered into place. It looks like it was molded on in the Play Doh barber shop, and I'm not even on drugs. ;)
I hope the Repug party self-destructs. It looks hopeful now. If Huckabbe gets Iowa, fasten your seatbelts, it'll be a bumpy...
can't believe there was a time when I liked Cokie Roberts!!must've been drugs, or something..
If the controlled press doesn't like Huckabee then that would almost force me to like him.
How nice that they figured out that Huckabee is a fraud. Now, would somebody please tell Frank Rich?
I just love cokie's last line..."they have nobody to run". It really is the worst collection of neocon misfits to ever be put on stage at one time. They have a little bit of everything to represent them.....religious fruitcakes, "I'll protect you, and I know better than you do", Mr. slick, and even one barking dog that embarrasses the whole damn group. It's a circus act really.
Too funny. And just watch, they'll get 48% of the American vote. We are a nation of idiots.
you know it’s gonna be a bumpy December.
ha! yeah, I can't wait for all those good Christians to be slugging it out SoCo-style, one moment, and preaching peace and joy on JC's birthday the next.
Paul in LA @ 25:
Um, yeah, people ARE animals. Are you kidding me? If not animals, then what? Mineral? Vegetable (well, maybe Cheney, but we could only hope)?
