This Week: Holy Huckabee!

icon Download | play icon Download | play (h/t Heather)

Mike Huckabee's stunning rise in the polls of likely Republican voters in Iowa is causing more than a little concern among the This Week with George Stephanopoulos roundtable panel of George Will, Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson. Even George Will sees Huckabee as a potential theocrat that defies the very foundation of why this country was founded.

George and Company agree that Huckabee has a lot of negatives that Romney should be slamming him with now if Mitt hopes to stay a viable candidate. Look, when you have George Stephanopoulos advising Mitt Romney to go negative in the days between now and the January 3rd Iowa primary, you know it's gonna be a bumpy December.

Peace on Earth, Please.

Paul's picture

As for you and your faith, keep your faith to yourself in the presence of God. The man is to be congratulated who does not pronounce judgement on himself in what his actions sanction. -- Romans 14:22

Huckabee is a sinner for touting his faith, as are all evangelicals.

Faux News Opinion Poll, 12-8-2007

Please vote:

Could reducing non-Republican votes to 3/5ths of a vote actually provide for a truer democracy in America?:

A. Absolutely. Non-Republicans actually have on average 40% less patriotism than Republicans.

B. Without a doubt. And it is what the Founding Fathers intended.

C. I would raise it to 4/5ths of a vote if the non-Republican has actually killed someone in a war--even accidentally.

Shawnmeat's picture

Bush is a theocrat, too. The sumbitch thinks God is talking to him, amongst other things. In short, Huckabee isn't too theocratic for these individuals; they simply don't like the man and are doing a one-eighty in order to try to justify their partisan support of Mitt "Dog goes on car!" Romney or Rudy "Seriously, there's just way too many things I can put here at this point" Giuliani. All of this talk is proof that both the Democrats and Republicans have picked out their New Ideal President way in advance and simply force their will upon the damn nation.

Truthseeker's picture

Hmm..I wonder if Pat Robertson is kicking himself over his endorsement of Rudy G. ;)

Yecchabee is just another "religious" fraud who has deluded himself into believing that he represents genuine spirituality. To him, "religion" is just another tool to use to promote a respectable "image" among his cult like following. Looks like that phony veneer of "respectability" will wear off mighty quick.

Shawnmeat's picture

That is to say, the Democrat and Republican lobbyists, media representatives, et al., have picked out the new President way in advance.

If I only had the repub candidates to chose from, after Ron Paul, I would choose Mike Huckabee. Is that getting it wrong?

If the Repugs pick Huckabee, they get what they deserve.

I want a Pres who who can and will grow in office.

It's so fitting that the folks in Iowa, who have given us crappy dem choices in the primaries, now are fucking up the republicans. It's not their fault though, if the rest of the nation follows their lead, it's just the way sheep behave.

Paul's picture

I don't think it matters a whole lot who the GOPers nominate. they're going to get their asses handed to them in 2008.

Incidentally, I'm not the Paul @ 2.

VietVet8666's picture

Whom do I trust to devote him- or herself to save America?

I'll put it in the negative. Not Hillary, not Romney, not Guiliani.

I like the rest in terms of saving America.

If someone were to change in office, to grow and become what people demand (whatever that may be?), As much as I hate to admit, Hillary is the best shape-shifter, but Edwards seems like the most principled shape-shifter.

In a legal election, true. However, it would be MUCH better to run against (H)uckabee than Romney, and against (H)uckabee than 9iu11iani.

Don't get excited folks, republicans are running for office, based on 20% of the country voting for one of those ass holes. They know not to depend on more then 2% of the black vote and may be the Latinos, may be a little nicer, with 18%, as a high figure and the white vote is also an issue for them and all others %30, no matter how they promote hatred and racism to keep all of us at odds. We seem to see the light and that is real bad for this administration and all of it's cronies.

However the numbers for Democrats, it seems is 80% for the lessor of evils. All of the Democrats are beating the hell out of ALL the republicans. Democrats have much higher numbers over Republicans, then media wrongly spews out, yet many of them also will be put to the task of demonstrating, why they should serve in office.

We need to demand they give the true figures, based on the numbers of supporters committed to these campaigns of both parties, if they dare to end the campaign for the right wing crimminals, they continue to promote.

80% of this country,of all walks of life, seem to be in agreement, that serious changes need to be made and many people need to be dealt with, either now or in the here after. It has to be done for the betterment of this country.

So unless the bastards are planning to somhow steal another election, they are up shits creek, without a paddle.

Perhaps not. But backing Paul or Kucinich is the ONLY thing that will force the issue. All the other candidates are corporate shills. They belong to the same damn party, but with two different names.

If you are going to change the course in Washington, you have vote outside of the box that the ruling elite and media monopolies want you to vote. That means voting 180 degrees to what they want. And the elites and the media absolutely DO NOT WANT YOU TO VOTE FOR THEM.

thats why they ignore the two best men in the race.

Paul, as a pseudo-humble boy from Ottawa, Canada, I gotta thank you for being here to offer up these points about Ron Paul his rabid internet supportors seem to conveniently ignore. Ron Paul combines the worst elements of conservatism and the worst elements of libertarianism; it's simply a lucky coincidence that that puts him against the occupation of Iraq.

Folks, of course George F Will is ripping Huckabee. George F Will is a big money conservative. Huckabee is a religious populist.

In some ways Huckabee is a worse threat to the Republican party than any Democrat out there. If he wins the big money conservatives are screwed -- they won't have a political party to belong to.

That's why all the economic elite, Republican and Democratic, are gunning for him. If he wins the republican nomination then the current system of playing social factions off against each other while robbing the country blind is history.

As a fervent democrat, I say that I would rather have Huckabee than Romney.
