Mike Gravel Raps

Scholars & Rogues:

This is frighteningly like something I’d see on a Saturday morning cartoon or educational special from the mid-80s, but I can’t argue with the sentiment in these lyrics:

Everybody talkin about pollution. Solution.
Revolution. Evolution. Evolution. Revolution.
Freedom of speech.
Freedom to be who you are.
The Constitution.

Why won’t you let me say what I want to say
Power to the people
Give peace a chance

my jaw just dropped to the floor. (speechless)

Wow, except for Kucinich I can't think of a single other presidential cadidate that is bringing that message!

Mike is the only candidate that speaks the truth and the media won't give him an outlet. He scares the bejebus out of the other candidates, except for maybe Kucinich and that's because Mike and Dennis have the same views on the issues.

Gravel was in Congress during the Vietnam War and helped put a stop to that senseless war.

Turn On.
Tune In.
Drop Out.

Why is it that the paople who say the most sane things are the ones who are considered nuts?

Thanks for caring, Mike.

It's actually not that bad lol

Jesu Beezu I go away for ONE day.....and all hell breaks loose.

Umm, well the message is good but I think I just had a flashback.

THAT WAS FREAKIN AWESOME.

I LOVE MIKE GRAVEL!

It wasn't just the MSM that marginalized Mike's campaign. Idiots like Kos actually called Gravel a Joke. Thanks Markos, you pompous little twit. Now you can vote for Clinton, or a republican war monger.

Mike

BRILLIANT!!!!

Instead of two good clear choices for president we will have a choice of crappy or crappier again.

We will not get healthcare fixed and we will still have soldiers in Iraq in 2012.

Anyone like to bet on these predictions?

mikey baby!

FREAKS FOR TRUTH! mi nuevo movimiento.

I don't want to light a fire here, but his commercial where he just looked into the camera for a long time and then threw a rock in a lake, was kind of disturbing. No one knew exactly what to make of that.

Like I said before the message in this rap video is good but the way it looks is just sort of, I don't know, perhaps different is the right word.

Saturday morning cartoon? Well, visually, yeah. But whoever wrote that is a numb-nuts (musically) for not getting the John Lennon "Give Peace a Chance" riff this whole thing amounts to.
Well done.
I might think he's not a good choice this time around. But I will say I've been mightily peeved at how the MSM and even the lefty blogs have given short shrift to Gravel's past. They don't mention all his herculean work as a senator during the last horrible war or what he did to release the Pentagon Papers (look it up).

Frankly, the media (I include most blogs in this) reveal themselves as ignorant as Dana Perino and her whole Cuban Missile CrisisWHA? revelation. At the very least, on our side, it shows a collossal ignorance of our own past and our forebears (and he's one of 'em).

I love it.

very cool video

Anyone wanna bet someone at FOX will do a half hour segment on this? In a 'fair and balanced' way of course...

The only times Gravel has been on this blog is to mock him. Nice.

80's???? This is pure 60 & 70's Idealism!! Finally! And it's set to a John Lennon song.... I love it! John Edwards is the only other one saying similar things. JE is a true baby boomer idealist... with guts, intelligence, power and passion. I cannot understand why more people aren't getting behind him big-time!

He's not being mocked.

people tend to be impressed with the ruleing class or movie stars ,It seems these days when you speak the truth your a fucking nut, they are so use to swallowing the pie in the sky that overly polished politicians hand them, hillery clinton is a republican ,an old goldwater gal , and loves her some more war, she hasnt appoligised for her vote on iraq because she believes in war, obama makes a good speach at the democratic convention therefore hes intittled to run for president , edwards ,well he is the least of the bad apples but i still dont trust him ,hes sold out to the war pigs when he should have known better , kucinich votes with you and me , gravel does too, id settle for kucinich as president and gravel vp, when i go to war with the corporation war pigs i want someone i can depend on beside me, kooch and gravel 08

Outstanding!!! Finally the truth.

Well done.

He did a good job on it. It wasn't as overdone as the Nicole insinuated. It reminded me of School House Rock mixed with early 90s rap.

I realize that Mike Gravel is goofy sometimes, but he speaks the truth and isn't insane like Mike Huckabee. Every candidate that speaks the truth is marginalized by the MSM. Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich are prime examples how they pick apart or ignore their campaigns just to preserve the status quo. Ron Paul, even though I disagree with him about a lot of issues, is another example of the MSM trying marginalize anyone who suggests that radical Islam was made by our foreign policy and that civil liberties shouldn't be taken away. I would rather have Ron Paul in the Whitehouse than any of the current top runners that were hand picked by our Media (would rather have Gravel though).

"and isn’t insane like Mike Huckabee"
Do you get the feeling that Hucklberry is going to have a Howard Dean moment.... in a Republican kind of way?

right on. now that's cool.
i'd like to see one of those wack ass stick-up-the-ass repug candidates do something like that.

Fo shizzle. M-Grav in the house. Or something.

Thank you, it's about time, I was gonna say the same thing...this ad definitely has a late 60s/early 70s vibe. And it could have gone horribly wrong, but it works for me, I like it!

Word!

pissed off patricia @ 14:

I suspect throwing the rock into the lake was a metaphor. The ripples that ensued from the rock being thrown into the water corresponds with Gravel's message being sent out and reaching people throughout the United States. Perhaps Gravel is trying to have people in this country recall the civil rights message: "The truth shall set you free."

You bet,totallyserious..... yeah, recognize the turtle from the governments "duck and cover" films in the early 60's for kids, should an atomic bomb drops on us!!!! As if hiding under your desk would make any difference. Gravel did a brave thing by making this... I love it. And I didn't know about his help with the Pentagon Papers. It helped bring down the Nixon admin. God bless Daniel Ellsberg!

"One man with courage is a majority" Thomas Jefferson

If the intent is to grab voters attention and hold it, he hit a home run.........uh, without steroids.
There are no specific policy statements in his message, but Gravel gets an A for attitude.........word up bro'

Gravel, Kucinich, Paul, Richardson, Dodd and Huckabee all have one thing in common - their candidacies were pronounced DOA by the media.

Paul and Huckabee are the only ones that have been able to defy that diagnosis, perhaps because of the quality of the "serious" candidates in the GOP. Paul raises more money than his competitors but still gets ignored, and the right-wing smear machine is gearing up to destroy Huck.

Maybe someday the voters can get to decide which candidates are "serious."

It's a dark day in American history when the fringe candidates (i.e, Kucinich, Gravel, and Paul) are the only ones who actually seem to embody the sentiments of the American people and have no actual chance of winning.

[Quit spamming the threads with the same off topic message. Thank you-Sitemonitor]

I like it!

"School House Rock" with a little "Electric Company" thrown in for good measure (am I showing my age?) :)

Gravel has a progressive attitude.

Kucinich, Gravel, and Paul...now that's an Administration I would love. I don't care who fills which seat.

myiq2xu @ 34:

Yeah, and they had the audacity to do it 20 MONTHS before the actual election.

That someday will be the day we abandon the "winner take all" electoral college way of tabulating votes, and start using Instant Runoff Voting.

Mike Gravel embodies the roots many of the democratic activists today. We marched for peace during the Vietnam conflict. After years of political apathy many of us woke up, looked around and didn't like what was happening to our country. So we dusted off the peace buttons (metaphorically) and got involved again.

Mike is not the right guy for president this time but he does speak for a large number of us and I hate it that he has been ignored.

Gravel has been listening to the Moody Blues. Like Paul McCartney said: "90 % of genius is knowing where to steal."

I don't want to start a flame here ok? But both Kucinich and Gravel have made overtures to Paul.
Now don't get all freaky on me ok? jes sayin.

Sounds familiar?...
was it an old soda pop commercial, no...
it was that really old commercial for the mattress where the couple staid in bed all week!
All we are saying is ...

Mike Gravel rocks. That was cool.

Power to the people.

Mike Gravel is kind of crazy in that opinionated-uncle sort of way, but he's honest and sincerely believes in the ideals of the United States when everyone else merely waxes eloquent about them.

I was skeptical and prepared to be dismayed after reading Nicole's narrative on this, but that was absolutely the best political ad I have ever seen. Talk about a sound bite: "Why won't they let me say what I want to say?"

And, you know what? Mike Gravel actually has a very nice voice.

F*CKIN AWSOME! KICK THE WARMONGERS OUT NOW!

This was a mashup of words Mike Gravel said and images that were added afterward.

He didn't know what what it was going to look or sound like until it was a finished product.

I think he was pretty pleased with the result.

It made me feel really happy, for some reason.

I love it! Anybody see Zippy yesterday? Dingburg Beatnik Poetry Scene.. Truth is Truth, anyway you (w)rap it.

How on earth did you resist the opportunity to headline 'Mike Gravel Rocks'?!

McDuff @ 45:

Mike Gravel rocks. That was cool.

Power to the people.

Sorry (see my post # 51). Gotta learn to read the whole post before I do.

Kucinich/Gravel '08?

I'd vote for it.

Well, got my attention. I've been warned.
Ethan Allen, Tom Paine, same same Mike Gravel.
But, then, on the other hand, Huckleberry, a sincere and serious American statesman.

Well, Mike is no John Lennon but he deserves snaps for this one. Power to the people, for the people and from the people. I say Obama, and then let him surround himself with the likes of Mike and some devil's advocates from the right. That is the only fucking way we are ever going to stifle the polarization of the country is by example from the top down. It isn't going to happen because the top is just as stupid as the bottom. Is America a failed experiment now?

It's not rap, silly, it's John Lennon. What, did you take 20th Century history lessons from Dana Perino's teacher?

Uh, well. I like Mike, and his message. But... wow. Kind of a cool "crazy fun grandpa" vibe he has going on there. Completely eliminates any chance of being president or a VP nod, but he probably wasn't going to get those anyway. And whoever cut that kept missing the damn beat! Annoying as hell. Des-pot-is-m. You can't stretch that over 10 beats without everyone cringing. I sure did. Like being off-key only more annoying. You can shorten it without altering pitch these days. Anyway... still fun in a public access channel kind of way.

All I want to know is why not give carrots a chance? We gave peas a chance but they didn't last very long...

"We are at the tipping point, and I don't know which side we're going to tip on, but '08 is as important an election as 1877".

Wow, great vid. Makes me shuffle my rankings even, in my FantasyLeague Vote using Instant Runoff Voting

was: 1. Kucinich (D), 2. McKinney (G), 3. Paul (R), 4. Moore (S)

now: 1. Kucinich (D), 2. Paul (R), 3. Gavel (D), 4. McKinney (G), 5. Moore (S)

oops, *3. Gravel* even with spell check

This is by the same dude that did Bush singing "Sunday Bloody Sunday"

It's pure genius, IMO. Congrats to him and to Mike Gravel... this is art in its pure form and I don't think Nicole comparing it to a saturday morning cartoon is warranted. Sorta like saying "George Seurat looks like a photoshop filter."

Pretty immature way to consider this amazing piece.

Correction to @62: It was Scholars & Rogues that made the comparison, not Nicole.

B

did he make that or is that a mashup?

That rocked! You go with your bad self, Mike Gravel!

ya....pretty shocking that nicole doesnt know a lennon cover when she hears it

Mike @ 10:

Mike

Amen.
Mike Gravel would have been the best president.
Now we're stuck with that bitch Hillary.

No it's not a "mash up." He released this from his campaign accout several months ago. I'll have to go listen to it again, as it made me laugh at the time.

What makes Gravel NOT the right person at this point in time?

Although I am a Kucinich supporter, anyone who espouses an ideology that doesn't include American imperialism, is NOT based on Western cultural superiority and rejects the myth of America always being innocent is the right person.

God bless this man.

I love this dude, especially when he called Bush a "mental midget" on Real Time. He's so honest and right, which means he'll never get elected, sadly.

Chris H. @ 25:

Mike Gravel has seen it all before, so when he sees the current crop of failed miserable corrupt scum up on the Hill,
noses in the trough, passively or actively enabling more war for profit, what else is there to do or say but protest.
Faux has reduce politics to knee jerk responses and accusations of anti Americanism to any dissent,
Music and the arts, likewise life has a Liberal bias, so doing a Dylanesque, Lennon style protest is all thats left.
Kudos and best wishes to Gravel and Kucinich, John Edwards is prob the most untainted age safe choice for a Democrat candidate, Mike and Dennis deserve to be in his cabinet, they would be good Secs of State.

Ps; With Ron Paul you might get more than you wished for, theres always a case for overhauling Depts and Agencys, abolishing can be going too far, esp when replacing and or thinking up alternatives is hard and silly in this economic political climate.

Gotta love this guy! Go Gravel!!

I expected to hate this, but it's good.
Not nearly as lame as, say, this.

It's only 'rap' if you consider John Lennon to be a rapper.

Mike Gravel is the best
