Blackwater's Heartfelt Christmas Message

Photo and more from TPM:

Every Monday, Blackwater emails a newsletter to its supporters and potential clients called the Blackwater Tactical Weekly. Often it's a compendium of conservative-media pieces about how everything's awesome in Iraq, accompanied by a few quick company notes. But today's Christmas Eve. And during this season of reflection, the company would be remiss if Blackwater didn't place itself in its proper spiritual context.

Some excerpts:

GIVING... is something with which all Peace Keepers are very familiar... Giving time in ways that most do not understand... Giving up pleasures and presence of family to patrol streets, conflicts and battlefields... Giving up comforts that most take for granted... Giving companionship to a fellow Peace Keeper because you are together in the same endeavor at home and on foreign fields... Giving support to those in need of assistance... Giving life and limb, risking injury or death, so that the people they love and care for may continue to live in peace and safety in their world.

Of course, T.X. Hammes and other actual defense experts don't believe Blackwater and the U.S. military "are together in the same endeavor." Rather, Blackwater's wilding out makes things worse for the U.S. military in Iraq. But in Moyock, NC, nothing says Christmas like cynical exploitation of the troops! Read on...

Others say were supposed to think of it like this.

"It’s like Bonanza," says Wrenn. "The Cartwright family were cowboys, but wearing white hats. They were the good guys, the people you want your neighbors to be. Yeah, they carry guns, but it’s the nature of the business."

Okay, Lil Joe Prince then huh?

Nothing says peace-keeper like a little unprovoked slaughter. If Eric Prince knew what the word 'peace' meant, I think it might occur to him that slaughter does not make for long-term peace strategy. It's got to be hard for the Iraqis to think the country/paramilitary force that invaded them has had a change of mind and desires to make the country stable when they continue to randomly open fire on crowds and people driving to work.

But Jesus says it's okay. I mean, they're selflessly getting paid five times what the military gets, they have non-existent oversight and their founder belongs to a sect that believes that Islamic culture exists (like any non-Christian culture) to be crushed, so really the contractors are out there doing the Iraqis a favor for Jesus and conquering them. (Do any of these people read the Sermon on the Mount?) And of course, once the Iraqis 'see the light,' they'll appreciate the Blackwater contractor's sacrifices. The Iraqis just need to be shown the error of their ways.

I mean, the Iraqis left in the country, that is. And those not needed for prostitution, 'cause there's got to be some compensation for the poor mercenaries when they can't molest their own female employees/co-workers.

It's so tough to be a 'peace-keeper,' ain't it?

fiver's picture

Important issues for today include whether or not mercenary armies are good things. My Fifth Grade History teacher would have thought we're nuts.

The Dude's picture

It is always funny to see how these so called "Christian" peeps like Prince (last I checked the asshole is a fairly devout born again evangelical) always try to find a loop hole in the teachings of Jesus to justify their positions, and sleep like a baby at night. Even though their actual possitions/interests are diametrically opposed to what that Jesus feller was all about.

So there we have it, this Prince bastard figured out that since they can be contracted as "Peacemakers" that boom... he is down with Jesus. Even though the "Peacemakers" that Jesus was referring about were fairly different in concept and practice from the "peacemaking" that Blackwater et al engage.

It is like that sketch in which a filthy rich guy had contracted a company to make a huge needle with an eye large enough for a camel to pass comfortably through. And thus, finding a loophole so that he can enter heaven, afterall it was Jesus who said that "it would be easier for a camel to pass through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter heaven..."

In my opinion this whole born again bullshit business is more about motivational speaking and finding loopholes to justify the plight of subuvanites than actual Christianity....

Bluesage's picture

These Blackwater thugs were deployed to New Orleans after Katrina to patrol the streets and scare the hell out of people. It should have been and should always be our National Guard that comes to the rescue in a national emergency but they were in Iraq along with most of the equipment from the area. Bush and his Dick have literally shattered our country and made a mockery of all we should stand for. I hope these bastards leave quietly in 08.

crazytown's picture

We need to discuss this fuckhead Prince's future role being squeezed through the back door.
We need to discuss getting our National Guard back under the jurisdiction of the state governors before it's too late. This has only happened since the convenience brought by Katrina. I wrote Olbermann at the time and begged him to do a story about this, and he DID! That was the end of it at the time.

This is very timely to raise again while the prince of manlove is wearing his Sunday Best.

Originally a law enforcement agency, Peacekeepers are a militaristic organization in the Farscape universe who employs their people as mercenary soldiers. On the issue of Blackwater loose in our towns: there are a lot more of us than there is of them. If it comes to that, and we know this is what they have in mind (as that little CONSERVATIVE california town showed us) as they attempt to diss the integrity of our own military right down to the national guard, the main point is to return the NG to state jurisdiction where they belong. This is totally crucial.

I know, yeah. Then is when we go about creating our own laws, necessity being the mother of invention. Then is when the states begin to either secede and/or take back their power (which is already happening in response to unreasonable fed demands).
It is they who've trashed the constitution and gone rogue, not us. It behooves us to reinstate our founding principles even if it takes a few decades.

Preacher Boob's picture

You folks don't seem to understand that murdering Iraqi civilians is a part of our new Iraq war strategy. The more Iraq citizens we eliminate, the less violence there will be, which will reduce the anti-war sentiment which is growing in the US, and around the world, and is anathema to the Bush administration.

The less Iraq citizens there are, the fewer targets there will be for the US Army, the Sectarian Insurgents, and the Foreign Terrorists, So as Blackwater kills the populace, reducing the available targets, should they inadvertently knock off a US soldier, a sectarian insurgent, of a foreign terrorist who is not a US soldier, it will be even better, because in addition to fewer targets, there will be fewer shooters.

So Blackwater really is working in the cause of peace, reduced violence, an end to the Iraq war, in short, doing 'God's' work, as is this administration.

So let me join the Iraqi people, and friends of peace throughout the world, in offering a Christmas prayer for Bush and Prince,

'Oh Mighty Lord, watch over them, do not let them stumble, ease their path, as they set off tonight on their well deserved journey to the netherworld, Amen, Hallelujah!'

I know I'm late on the draw here but:

Blackwater is not a militia. They are a private mercinary contractor. A militia is ordinary citizens who live normal lives but are prepared to take up arms and act in case of an emergency.

Blackwater is none of those things. To call them militia is to give them credit they don't deserve.

Plisko's picture

I would also like to add:

The militia would be the one's fighting Blackwater at home if our government went crazy on us. Todays "unorganized militia" (which is an actual part of the militia law) are the ones Blackwater was taking guns away from in New Orleans.

That's why I take such exception to that term used on Mercenaries.

This all applies to American definition of Miltia, not the ones in other countries, by the way. The term has several definitions depending on where it is being used.

Methinks militias will be popping up all over the country if things continue to deteriorate in this country.
