Kristol off to a bad start: Video Mash up!

icon Download | play John Amato: Here's a mash up clip C&L did with the Huffington Post on William the Bloody Kristol after he got the NY Times gig. (h/t Scarce)
Bill Kristol’s inaugural column in the paper of record confirms the concerns of critics. It’s filled with the kind of far-right talking points that one has come to expect from the Weekly Standard editor.

How bad is it? Let's see:

* It's filled with cliched, hackneyed writing.

* It quotes Michelle Malkin.

* It quotes Michelle Malkin incorrectly.

There's some interest in Kristol's willingness to support Mike Huckabee, despite the GOP establishment's reservations, but on the whole, it's the kind of piece that will continue to make NYT readers wonder what the newspaper was thinking.

Ya' might just say The New York Times Replaced ‘The Weekender’ With ‘The Dead-Ender’

Hahahahahahaha... Bill Kristol showing the world what a pathetic loser he really is... Hey Bill... You're FIRED!!

I am not a conservative but I do read the NYTimes op-ed page when it is remotely interesting, which is maybe 40 percent of the time. I think Kristol is getting a bad rap. Cliches are better than completely unreadable columns. I found his column readable and interesting. And the writing is certainly no worse than unreadable Maureen Dowd. I am not sure what the source of the brickbats is because they seem to be out there in profusion. Give him a few more columns.

This asshole should go back to school.
He hasn't made one true statement since I've heard him spew.

All wrong. All the time.

But, he may serve a purpose. We could probably render, and refine, the oily (bleep) and break our dependence on foreign petroleum.

When Kristol smirks (he's always smirking), Kristol's WRONG (he's always wrong).

Kristol’s inaugural column in the NYT's reminds me or Perle's "Relax Celebrate Victory" column 4 weeks after the Iraq war kicked off.

New survey of NYT readers of William Kristols column indicates that Mr. Kristol more than likely spends a measurable amount of his leisure time spanking his monkey.
When asked for a comment Mr. Kristol said: "Everyone needs a hobby".

That clip of Colbert eating him alive was priceless! I need to see the whole thing

Kristol proves time and time again what an idiot he is, in fact all the signatories of the PNAC document should be incarcerated for  treason against the interests of the U.S.

There were 3 losing factors for the 'quote'.

1. Kristolnacht attempts to quote Malkin, of all people.
2. Kristolnacht incorrectly attributes quote to Malkin, of all people.
3. The quote was rubbish anyway.

So... besides appearing to have a great deal of conviction for the wrong things he says, what value does Kristolnacht provide?

NYT...SOLD OUT of papers today, thanks to bloody bill....but when questioned, buyers said: 'Birdy go poop a lot'.

Preacher Boob's picture

Does Kristol have a 'Ghost' writer?

Could it be Ann C.? Michelle M? (The incorrect quote could be misdirection)

No. None of the above.

Our research reveals it's Sherri Shepard, who claims she 'Tones down the sophistication of her rhetoric, and her use of polysyllabic words, to fit Bill's style'.

I love it when Stewart or Colbert have Kristol on and put the lie to his propaganda. He turns an amazing shade of scarlet and giggles. That's the only time I can bring myself to look at his face because he's out of his element and can't deal with it.

BTW, Stewart + Colbert return tonight, right?

Just got off the phone with Ted Sorenson on the Air America show "clout". I challenged Sorenson on his support for Obama and asked him to give me some evidence to back up Obama's spin machine that Obama is an "agent of change". I asked him about Obama being absent on the Kyl Lieberman amendment and how that did not demonstrate a real commitment to an anti-war stance.

I repeated that Edwards is not taking Pac Money. Sorenson LIED BIG TIME saying that all of the candidates are not taking Pac Money.

Sorensen also lied saying that all of the candidates have said that they will not have lobbyist in their administration. This is a flat out lIE. The only candidate who has said this is Edwards.

Absolutely pathetic and yet too many listeners will think he's correct because he's in a position that affords him more knowledge than the average person.
Bravo for getting on his case!

Those that start badly often end badly.

I predict that Kristol will end up as a disc jockey at an independent Fresno radio station, actually 'spinning the wax' for an all-Spike Jones format.

Basing a campaign on 'Change' is as stupid as declaring a war on 'Terror'.

The only constant in life is that things change. They'll change whether there's a campaign for or against it.

Terror is in the eyes of the beholder. One man's terrorist is another man's patriotic revolutionary. All the founders of the US were 'terrorists', to King George (the original King George).

Without specific programs, all the 'change' artists are saying is 'Have faith in me'. Bush said it. Hitler said it. Stalin didn't give a sh*t, but he said it too.

The yellow bellied white assed chickenhawk Kristol needs to suit up and get his ass over to that war he helped start. Better yet drop the whole chickenhawk group (Cheney, Bolton, Woolsey, Frum, Bush, Wurmser's etc etc) butt ass naked down in the middle of Baghdad and let them run for Saddams hole in the ground.

They can dig their own holes to rot in.

Bloody Warmongers...enough!

Ruthless People's picture

I say litter Iraq with Kristol's neocon talking points and the drop of Kristol right in the middle of Falluja.

Just kidding.................or am I?

Ruthless People's picture

"You are the iron glove you want to beat eveybody up".

Correction. Kristol is a combat dodging neocon chickenhawk. He wants other people to beat everybody up. Kristol would shit himself if he were put on the front lines to fight in the wars he champioins.

When it comes to the lowest rung on the neocon ladder they don't get much lower than Kristol. He's among the worst of the worst. A low life. He's a grinning rat.

Nothing succeeds like success. What did the Times give for the Weekly Standard?

Truth B Told's picture

If Kristol is warming up to Huckabee, that means that Huckabee has had his Howard Beale confrontation/discussion with the powers that be.

It is the international system of currency which determines the vitality of life on this planet. THAT is the natural order of things today. THAT is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today. And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature. And YOU WILL ATONE. Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little 21-inch screen and howl about America, and democracy. There is no America; there is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.

You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it. Is that clear? You think you've merely stopped a business deal? That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back. It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity. It is ecological balance. You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations; there are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems; one vast, interwoven, interacting, multivaried, multinational dominion of dollars.

Freddy Kruger Kristol needs to be relegated to the dustbin of history, not promoted by an increasingly irrelevant rag.

MacDaKnife's picture

The NYT has shown themselves to be completely lacking justification for being given the public's trust. This is a huge departure from the national respect they once had from the American public. They still have some great reporting from 'the ranks'. However, those running the show are Murdoch implantees. The NYT has the equivalent respect as the National Enquirer.

Mr. XXXX's picture

I think it is very hypocritical on Bill Kristol's part to take the job at the NYT myself.

At the same its quite clever for the NYT to compromise Bill-Boy Kristol by having him at the NYT.

Now it will be difficult for Bill Kristol and other neocons on FOX "News" as well as like-minded right wing rags to bash the NYT any more.

I find this situation quite entertaining to say the least. Let's see how this circus unfolds over the long-term.

Fil's picture

Michelle Malkin is claiming at her blog that the NYT only talks about her when somebody calls her a fascist. I'd love her to dig up the number of times she's been called a fascist by the NYT. But then again, intellectual honesty is not one of Malkin's strong points.

Put a little wank in your blog!

From William Safire...to David Brooks...to William Kristol. Maybe the standards for conservative commentary are shifting downward out of necessity. As the occasionally defensible becomes the rarely defensible becomes the indefensible, the quality of the defender naturally declines.

Is anyone still drinking his Kool-Aid?

I couldn't believe he trotted out the 'likable regular guy' argument for Huckabee as if it was a fresh approach. GWBush was the candidate you could 'drink a beer' with, and boy, that didn't work out too good. At least, everybody except Kristol thinks it didn't.

'Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory'? You've gotta be kidding me. NYTimes, what a disappointment.

Librarian's picture

Which is what is most offensive about Kristol's column: it brings talk radio-Limbaugh-Coulter-style rhetoric to the pages of the Times. This finally marks the downfall of that once-great paper. Adolph Ochs (who was an old-fashioned old-school conservative) is spinning in his grave.

gawd's picture

Billy trots out the argument that he can appeal to Republicans because "he's a likable guy." WTF? Didn't these people fall for that with Bush? Remember the "I can see myself having a beer with Bush and not Kerry" sentiment? Oh yea, fool me once, uh, uh, won't get fooled again!

Here is why Kristol supports Huckabee
Mike Huckabee

Huckabee, who has taken nine trips to Israel in past 35 years, calls himself a “steadfast supporter” of Israel. On his campaign site, Huckabee pledges that as president, he would “ensure that Israel has access to the state-of-the-art weapons and technology she needs to defend herself from those who seek her annihilation.”
