Morning Joe: Rudy as Ziggy Stardust

icon Download | play icon Download | play (h/t BillW)

I'm not sure if Republican presidential candidate was speaking from Las Vegas--you know the make-up artists there are used to working on showgirls--but it's pretty bad when Joe Scarborough likens your make-up job to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. I don't know though, Ziggy Stardust is so avant garde for Rudy. Given his proclivities for dress up, I thought he resembled another 'made' man. I'm just sayin'...

Defiantly Dame Edna, Rudy wouldn't know the spiders from mars if one bit him in the ass.

Whoops, 'definitely' Dame Edna. The spelling police almost pulled me over on that one.

I have no problem with a crossdressing president. A crossdressing neocon president scares the bejeezus outta me...

Amusing, sure, but in typical fasion for the media, literally focused on the superficial appearances.

I think Joe got it wrong. There is no evidence of blush in this makeup job. It wouldn't have been credible in any event. It is well established that nothing can make Rudy blush. A little heavy on the eyeliner though. Way too Tammy Faye!

Isn't it time to break the habbit and give up the mug of "morning joe" for good?

OMIGOD, I called my husband in to see him thinking he'd either had "eye work" done or was heavily made up (mascara for sure)...WEIRD!!! Course there may be some gay guys who just LOVED IT!!! The old adulterer may be contemplating another move if things don't work out in Florida...

Rudy, Rudy, stale and fruity.

What shall we spend the next few minutes of the show on?

How many surge benchmarks have been met? Nah.

How the devaluation of the dollar is concealing how we're already in deep doo-doo (and how it will also make the recession much worse)? Nah.

How the health-care plans of the candidates differ? Nah.

I know! Let's make fun of one candidate's appearance. But it can't be the woman or the black. Right.

Wow.

That is quite a make-up job there, Rudy.

But joe.....he a REPUBLICAN like YOU....no more invites to the bushes for you.

Dame Edna rudy is not. you have to be clever not a crook. rudy's drag is the worst.

Why degrade Ziggy Stardust. At least he had talent.

Does Judy know that Rudy has been messing around in her makeup case?

However bad his makeup job at least it's not as bad as his wife's (That woman standing next to him)

Judith should loan him her tiara.

Morning Joe gets about 30 minutes of air time during my morning. After that I start getting super angry and that's no way to begin the day. I leave the show on, but I'm not being a good little viewer and paying attention to their every word. Once the first half hour passes they basically repeat themselves and occasionally have a semi interesting guest. Those semi interesting guests seem to be fewer and fewer these days.

Is it cocktail hour yet?

Lollimom @ 10:

Wow.

That is quite a make-up job there, Rudy.

What I want to know is they found as many as 30 people to pose as Rudy supporters?!?

The whole Rudy-is-a-crossdresser meme ceased to be funny, like, the second time some blog linked to that picture.

Believe me, I'm the last person to defend Ghouliani, but for (at least nominal) progressives to just harp on the cross-dressing thing over and over again is sort of starting to bug the shit out of me.

Maybe we could, I dunno, talk about the man's record on minorities, civil liberties, etc...?

Certainly if something bugs the shit out of you by all means let's drop everything and change it. We wouldn't want you to be upset.

Wow, that was a pretty witty comeback. Whoo, that stung.

Peter G, if tagging a Republican candidate as a cross-dresser because he appeared in a dress at a political roast is your idea of incisive political criticism, rock on with your bad self. I find it stupid and borderline offensive. If you'd like to debate the point, I'm all ears.

Julie Annie strikes again!

Albatross @ 3:

EXACTLY. A cross dressing fascist who will wear women's clothing yet shut down the sex stores in NYC? Ugh,... almost as bad as family value idiots getting busted in bathroom sex stings,...

I hope he takes nothing in Florida & breaks down crying when he quits.

What you want isn't a debate. Almost everyone who visits this site is quite reasonably well informed on political subjects and well able to express their own opinions. What you want is to divert the subject, however light hearted, into a circle jerk of your own personal liking: material , I might add that has been well covered. There is quite enough of that around here already. If you must be holier than thou pick another thread.

Ha ha I watched this as I was waking up this morning, granted I was half asleep, I was shocked when Rudy, all glammed up popped up for his little interview. He looked like the offspring of a drag queen and clown.

www.HyerStandard.com

Peter G, I am not really sure what I said to garner such antipathy, but you seem to have developed a really detailed and inflexible critique of me based on just a couple posts. You haven't said anything to the substance of my posts, just been really supercilious and dismissive - to the point of trying to Hall Monitor me out of the thread.

You certainly have the right to your opinions, but how about going a little lighter on putting the words in to my mouth?

Not sure what has more "make up" - Rudy in drag or the bullshit statistics he pulls out of his ass during debates and stump speeches.

IDIOT!!!

Oh, and I wonder if those cut outs behind him were offered coupons for free fries at Wendy's or something to stand there looking like supporters or something.

Better yet, are these the poor saps on his campaign not getting a paycheck this month because his futile attempt to win something, anything, has been bled dry???

Methinks JuliAnna is more Carol Channing.

Is Hillary more Alice Cooper?

Rudy is new beard shopping in Florida

Morning Joe, is just as ridiculous as Hardball, maybe even worse. They are soon going to be in as much trouble as Tweety. They can't seem to shut their mouths about Hillary and of course they all gave their support to Chris last week for his bias'ssss and he thanked them all at nauseum. Mika is such a great supporter of Obama and thats fine ,but why do we have to listen to this through their 3 hours. And, I truly think that its all of MSNBC that is making this a racial campaign , they just won't stop talking about it. They blame Bill Clinton for everything that happens. I've gotta stop watching this station before it destroys me.

Now I know what I was thinking when I saw RueDee:

Go to Google "images" and type in "Kewpie Doll".

This is a general comment to C&L. We all know that Rudy is toast and it is just a total waste of time to even talk about him. Joe Biden put it best in 22 seconds when he said "Rudy's foreign policy experience? All I know is that he stated a month ago, that he didn't know who was ahead in nuclear weapons, Iran or North Korea!" He then ended it with the best WTF look I have ever seen. Now that is a 5 seconds of sound bite.
The greater question is what commenter #6 (blue lensman) said. "Isn't it time to give up the morning 'Joe'"? Why does C&L give time to this guy and his utter hogwash. It might be amusing for a while, but once you realize Joe and his cronies get millions of eyes a minute, why do we here at C&L need to be subjected to such vain stupidity as well. As far as I can see your readership is much smarter than Faux News' "trance sitters" and doesn't need to be dragged through that sewer. I know we need a laugh in this insane asylum USA, why even consider Joe et al in the joke.

Help me out here, what was that woman getting at at the end with her comment "What are the democrats trying to get Bill Clinton to do?" and after an awkward pause the first head says "exactly." Exactly what? Was she trying to deflect criticism of Rudy for looking like a poofter? I don't get it. Are they programmed to knock the Clintons on a schedule or something?

They want Bill Clinton to be quiet already. Ted Kennedy and Rahm Emmanuel feel that Bill's enthusiastic campaigning for Hillary by going after Obama is inappropriate for a former president and the titular head of the Democratic Party.

Remember when Rudy was "Unstoppable", he was going to clean
Hillary's clock and be prez?

Ah, the future ain't what it used to be.....

Take a close look at the title of the site. For better or worse, what has made this site as big as it is has been our focus on the way the media frames issues. Two months ago you'd be hard pressed to find a media outlet that hadn't given the keys to the Oval Office to Rudy Giuliani. Now they're mocking him for wearing makeup.

We've also done posts today on healthcare, brain damaged vets, a pending war in Iran, myth-busting the surge and the attempt to turn the US into a theocracy. Are you trying to tell me we're not dealing with substantive issues? If you don't like this post, fine, move on to the next one. But don't expect us to be doom and gloom on every post.

Ziggy played...accordion...

What's with the background skank telling for Joe to "Oh, come on Joe" "Stop it" "Sttttop". And the stupid Bill Clinton comment followed by 10 seconds of dead air. Why stop bitch, your on the Entertainment Tonight of political programs. This is as deep as your analysis goes.

But did he smell presidential?
How much did his haircut cost?
What kind of suit is that and how many buttons?
Where was that flag pin made?
Has he seen Cloverfield yet?
Did he seem "angry" to you?
Is America ready for an Italian President?
Does he tip well?
Does Rudy ever cry?
Would you like to have a beer with him?

How can they even begin to know if a surge's been a success until they start bringing in all those refugees back to Iraq and see what happens?

You can't suicide bomb a target that's not there.

I wish Crooks and Liars could pull the Youtube of McCain on Saturday Night Live playing John Ashcroft out of this website and post it:

http://blog.electromneyin2008.com/2008/01/20/mccain-better-hope-this-is-...

Listening to John McCain joke about "terrorist sleeper cells" is almost as bad as Bush at the Washington Press Corp dinner looking under the podium for "Weapons of Mass Destruction...nope, not there....not there either!" As thousands of our troops and Iraqi's died and were maimed.

Not funny Mr. McCain. Not funny Mr. Bush.

Do terrorists have slumber parties?

I couldn't have answered Paolo better myself. Bravo Nicole. Your answer bears posting twice. We need the laughs to relieve the gloom. Your offering today, as always, is neither "stupid nor borderline offensive".

You can't suicide bomb a target that's not there.

I say god damn, that's a good point.

The surge had only ONE purpose: Lower US forces casualties, and drive IRAQ off the front page of the news....

Bush was facing a revolt from Republics who were terrified of running for re-election with IRAQ the lead story.

So, since that was the real purpose, it's been 100% successful.

I mean, the US people never gave a rat's ass about the Iraqi's
it was payback for 9/11, pure and simple.

Of course, it was a lot like punching the guy next to you at the
bar when your boss just fired you...it may feel good, but you
punched the wrong guy!

The ironic thing is by knocking Iraq out of the National attention, has brought the tanking economy to the forefront.

If the surge has been a success where are the WMD's? We managed to get rid of one former ally, but now our other allies probably don't quite trust us. Our friends definitely don't trust us anymore. Iraq is still politically unstable, which is the most suitable environment for a new dictator to arise on the promise of order. Even if the surge success is based only on the low number of American casualties, than why haven't any troops been drawn down, so we can see how safe the remainder are? Or better yet end the illegal war and bring them all home. And with the burgeoning US deficit and the collapse of the economy one should apply the cost/benefit analysis so favored by publicans 13 years ago.

Nicole, I'm not trying to attack you or C&L. It was a "general" comment. Just an observation. I enjoy the comments with the best of them. It just seems that we give these maniacs (Bill O, Kristol, Joe S,) way too much attention. And for your own sanity you, you might consider John Prine's suggestion to "blow up your TV" which is pure poison. Try it for a week. Take Andrew Weil's advice, and see how much better you feel. Amazingly, there are no "withdrawal symptoms".

We give them attention because ignoring them doesn't work. Have any of them gone away by us ignoring them? These are the people who have national platforms and who shape and frame the national dialogue. The only way to combat them is to hold up their statements and show them for the falsities they present. And it does work...look at how much more significant Keith Olbermann is at MSNBC now--look how they ask on liberals like Rachel Maddow on now. We push back against false memes and it provides an important service, whether or not you value it.

FWIW, I actually don't watch a lot of this stuff until our video crew gives it to me. I have small children at home and do not allow FOX on when they're awake. I get to watch Countdown, but most of the time the TV is actually off and I'm streaming AAR on the computer.

I watched a few moments of the interview, and it was truly creepy. I thought maybe I had stumbled across Fatty Arbuckle in a colorized version of a 1920s silent movie.
