Florida GOP Debate: What Republicans Want--Blind Obedience

When asked to comment on his mother's statement on C-Span that he does not have the support of the base and many Republicans will have to "hold their nose" and vote for him (gee, Mom, thanks for that boost! Really, please don't try to be helpful), John McCain defended his maverick ways.
So I’m proud of the broad base of support. I will continue to work in every way to show people I have a very, very conservative record. I’m proud to be a conservative. But there are times, like when Rumsfeld’s strategy was going wrong, I was criticized by Republicans. When I opposed the “Bridge to Nowhere”, that was a Republican policy. When I went after Jack Abramoff, there were people who were Republicans who suffered from that. When I saved tax payers $6B in a bogus tanker deal, that was a Republican policy…deal there. So there are times and the reason I’ve had such strong support among independents is because they know that I ‘ll put my country above my party every single time and I’m proud to be a conservative.
What was telling was the absolutely tepid response from the audience: just a smattering of applause could barely be heard over the crickets chirping. Need more proof that the Republican mindset is 'Party Before Country'?
Oh, and that claim of McCain's that he criticized Rumsfeld? According to this article in Salon last week, not so much.

a must see-

How long in Iraq?....1,000 years?....retire old man.
the ONLY way that a repub can be president is if the OWNERS of this country hear hillary say something they don't want to hear...like cutting defense spending or balancing the budget or universal health care...or getting us off oil.
so it's hillary 2008
write that down in your book
Poor old john. Didn't get the rousing round of seig heils he was looking for. Try growing a little mustache john, see if that helps them recognize you.
LIEberman will install mcLame as Barak's VP running mate in the spirit of bipartisanship.
If our trillion dollar military cannot handle a handful of goat herders and farmers with 1980's weapon technology after almost FIVE years, how are we going to stay for 1000 years ??
McCain was for Rumsfeld's policy in Iraq before he was against it...
Nice post Nicole. The republicans have sold their souls to so many different interests only blind 'party before country' can keep the sheep in the flock.
If we keep doing it we'll go blind!
Who's going to a guy's Mom to get a quote? Really, who does that?
To be fair, isn't 'blind obedience' what Pelosi and Reid are selling when they tell us 'impeachment is off the table' whilst fawning over Bush's war spending bills and "Protect America" legislation?
He seemed like he was laughing at the idea that Ron Paul would ask HIM a question....then when he realized he had no fucking idea what Ron Paul was talking about, the smirk left his face and he went with his 'Jack Kemp and Phil Gramm are my butt buddies' rant.....this guy is in way over his head, he is an old fart and I look forward to his awkward, arm flailing, teleprompted, 'My friends' fucked up concession speech.
The main
fearconcern of Republicans is the threat of Islamic extremism? My main fear is meteorites.
In most polls ( I don't but a lot of stock in them) all point that McCain is the GOP's best cadidate to beat Hillary. That has the neocons pulling their hair out. Rudy's toast, Romney is creepy, and Paul doesn't have a chance. Huckabee is a fading memory. Let's watch the Repubs collapse.
Translation: I'm very, very conservative -- except when it's more politically expedient to appear sane.
Sounds like he's started his shift to the center a bit prematurely.
Judging by the reaction of the crowd I would suggest that its not only the candidates that want blind obedience but the Republican voters as well. Apparently, the people in that crowd do not want someone that will go after other Republican crooks and cronies. That was McCain's big mistake when he spoke.
Need more proof that the Republican mindset is ‘Party Before Country’?
not at all.
this has been evident for a long time now. even looking at the GOP, anti-american, initiatives of the past 8 years is illuminating and disturbing. from tom delay's efforts in texas, to the GOP's 2000 effort in florida to steal the election from the say of the people, to the phone jamming scams in new hampshire (further, consider the GOP paid tobin's legal bills, very damning), to the voter caging, to the blackwell shenanigans in ohio during the 04 election, and on and on...
today's GOP: party before country
I miss the McCain that was the maverick 8 years ago. Where'd he go? he get replaced with robo-mccain (now with more republicanism!)
Wow, a 'not so bad' republican is going to win.
McCain is going to get the nomination and hannity's and rush's heads are going to explode.
HAHAHHAAHA I love it.
yes, very nice post nicole.
well i'd have to point out though that it's the republican audience that's reacting like mccain is trying to force cod liver oil down their gullets. that audience is most likely hand picked by the rabid/fundy/neocon/bushista/true believer crowd that has nothing to do with the actual primary and caucus voters who are setting him in the lead.
they're terrified of him.
R - McCain
D - Hillary
I - somebody
And the winner is...McCain. Too little difference between Hil and McCain on the war. People may not like McCain, but they think they see more of the real McCain than the real Hillary...enough people to make it President McCain. Just my opinion and speculation, of course.

I guess that's what comes after tunnel-vision, eh?

He went in for surgery for that boil on his face or something ...
Bush is running scared today spouting off his mouth again.
The lying criminal sociopath has no credibility left.
And the people know it.

Sshhh! I think you just exposed the plan!
If they cared at all about our country, they would be demanding impeachment of Bush/Cheney with the same vigor and intensity as they sought impeachment of Clinton. The "It's Okay If A Republican Does It" seems to be the party mindset.
Republicans thank theirs is the "GOD" party. I want a chair next to St.Peter,I gotta see this.
Need more proof that the Republican mindset is ‘Party Before Country’?
To them, THEY are the country. The rest of us are un-Americans. Haven't you been paying attention? You support the evil doers. Bi-partisanship to them is someone from the other party going along with what THEY want. They're assholes.
Suppose those cons in the audience aren't so happy about the Lieberman/McCain love-fest?
wisedup @ 27:
The Book of Matthew already tells us what we're going to see.
'Lord, did we not do great works and prophesy in your name?'
And I will say to them, "Away from me, evildoers! I know you not!"
ray @ 12:
Yep, you nailed it...and I wonder just how many more time we are going to have to
hear McCain tell us how he saved the taxpayers $6B in the bogus tanker deal...I've
hear it at least once by him at every debate.
Crazy Train McCain!!!!!!
Dude's wheel's fell of along time ago...but he's still on track!!!
fuckin tard.......
The only thing I feel for McCain is embarrassment. I get embarrassed for him when he speaks.
None got more than one-hand-clapping except for Ron Paul. I guess he's the only republican who know how to tell the truth.
And the compassionate conservative mantle is passed onto McCain. It's no secret which candidate the MSM supports.
xxx @ 18:
Yep, McCain is the worst of the bunch because unlike Rudy and Mitt, McCain actually had a soul once.
McCain is getting attention now by the process of elimination. Each time the spotlight shines on one of the candidates, the heat wipes them out. Mitt will probably be the "next big thing".
CoIntelPro @ 22:
Better tunnel-vision than Videodrome.
Lalo @ 6:
...if I hadeverbeenherebefore I would probablyknowjustwhat to do...don't you?....
Reporter: So what do you think about your son becoming president?
Mom McCain: Vote for my son. He's not a total ass-wipe.
I got the exact opposite feel. The moderator repeatedly had told the audience there was to be no clapping or other signs of approval of disapproval for any candidate's comments. So the fact that they actually did make some noise in a few cases would seem to be an indication that they felt so strongly about what was said that they couldn't help themselves. McCain's statement was one of those instances.
xxx @ 18:
he went to shit and the hogs ate him!
That's the only kind of Republican there is, blind obedient. If Republicans took the time to learn what is going on and if they were honest with themselves they would not be Republicans anymore.
I cant believe this fuckranot is even in the race, it shows that they will put the puppets on the front line and real presidential candidates like Ron Paul get shoved out..... We need to change our country's slogan from "Land of the Free" to " Land of the Sheepole" May be if we got this guy a Constitution and someone to read it to him....... nah, if this guy gets in our economy is dead, more war, more over spending, more of the same bull shit we have now. YEY
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say Neo-Con's? Not ALL Republicans are like McCain - or the Neo-Cons to be more accurate. The Neo-Con are former non-conservatives - ie "neo" or "new" to conservatism. Sorry, I'm a stickler to detail. It upsets me when I see people clumped together, let alone ones that really have nothing in common. Just wait for the Neo-Lib's (former conservative Republicans turned Liberal) to show up and it won't be long before those guys are clumped with REAL Lib's.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We live in a Republic that is a Liberal Democracy.
Just pointing out that the real threat is "Neo-Cons" and surly coming soon if not already - "New-Libs". When you say Leberals or Conservatives - you are clumping allot of good people into a mix of bad apples.
He's praising Roberts and Alito. You really don't need to hear anything else McCain say after that. That alone is reason enough to vote against him. A 7-2 Republican majority on the high court and countless others stacked on the lower courts? Good by Constitution, good by civil liberties, good bye Roe v Wade, good by fair elections.
After McCain's speach you heard like 3 people clap in the audience. Probably his wife, his daughter and one other person who just woke up.
Accuracy @ 45:
The words "under God" were added later to the pledge by the Christo-fascists. Just as the theocons added the words "In God We Trust" to our currency. Little by little conservatives are undermining and eroding our founding fathers wishes of seperation of church and state.
How about that 1.5 trillion plus that we spent on the war John? Did you put the lives of 4000 of America's finest and the fiscal integrity of our country above being in lockstep with your party? No? You are just a pandering phony with a thin veneer of competency and independence. You would have been better off being true to your independent principles as your bankrupt party needs an ideological overhaul. You were in a perfect position to take the lead. You didn't, coward. You sold out---and will lose.
There is virtually nothing that J McCain has said about Iraq that is true .
During last nights debate -" Nobody has complained about U.S. military bases around the world " FALSE, there have been hundreds of thousands of protests , intellectuals , complaining and fighting U.S. military bases , which is resented by millions . You can start in IRAQ , where the MAJORITY want the U.S. occupation to end , but since JOHN McCain is continuing the NEOCON agenda , maintaining and expanding U.S. military , to intimidate , control resources and as the Michaels " BLOODY " Ledeen has written , " Iraq is the strategic pivot , Iran is the tactical pivot and Egypt is the Grand prize " .
Has John McCain asked the Iraqis about BASES in Iraq for 100 years , of course not , he cares not one wit , since they are only pawns in U.S. regional domination . So John McCain stop talking about DEMOCRACY , you FN liar, there is no such thing as a people with Democracy , living UNDER OCCUPATION .
His lies about Al qaeda are blatant and appalling, since even by Pentagon's claims , foreign fighters are less than 5 % of fighters in Iraq , so the notion Al Qaeda can take over or control Iraq is absurd and a lie and he knows it . But The Al qaeda CARD plays well in the U.S. , because the complicit U.S. media never challenges all the big battles for instance , involves Al Qaeda . The U.S. media won't say the word Occupation , which allows McCain to get away with his double talk and misleading statements .
Theoretically, Al Qaeda if they really exist can enter ANY country , so by McCains standards or misinformation , we have to occupy EVERY country and NEVER leave .
It's really about oil , so they'll come up with aNY excuse ,to continue the occupation .
bmw 528 @ 48:
I hope you are right about the "lose" part. It all depends on whether people fall for the new meme that he is the Bipartisan almost-liberal-in-all-of-the-good-ways Messiah. That only through McCain will the country "heal" itself. You know, because we "far left" (AKA 70% of the country) have to better learn to appease the far right ...sorry, centrists...and just go along. McCain and his "left wing but not far left" friend Lieberman can bring us into line.
By the way, it took McCain a while to figure out that the questioners were helping him pretend to be "centrist" and against the extreme Repugs. At first he defensively threw up his conservative credentials, and then finally realized they were cuing him to appeal to anti-Repubs.
REPUBLICAN PARTY=NSDAP
SIEG HEIL SIEG HEIL SIEG HEIL
Let me say what others are afraid to say.
McCain is in the early stages of Alzheimers. Last night Ron Paul ask McCain and question and he didn't have a clue what Paul was talking about, but he bullshitted his way through an answer. No one call him on his shit because he is old and was in a war 800 years ago.
No one in the mainstream press calls Mike Huckabee on his shit because they are afraid they will burn in hell.
No one calls Mittens on her shit because she will pull her huge ad revenue.
Julie Annie blames all his problems on the New York Times.........while everyone remembers that prior to 9/11 he was thought of as a total nimrod.
America wouldn't be in the shape it is in today if it weren't for the wussy folks at CNN and MSNBC.
yes comrades, we must never, never forget the central role the GOP plays in glorious revolution. Bringing the United States back to its former glory is not possible without subordinating the Constitution to the will of the GOP and our Lord Jesus!
All who disagree will be required to report for re-education.
ysbaddaden @ 38:
LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH!!!!
Don't laugh. For a lot of us independants our vote will probably go to McCain if Hillary gets the nomination.
Obama 08'
You shouldn't judge by the applause of an audience that has been repeatedly told to hold their applause til the end.
Just a thought.
I have voted Democrat for a long time, but this year I'm not too worried about the democratic race. I think the big issue right now is with the Rupublican party. This year, I am going to register to vote for the Republican Party.. I really think many of us Democrats should do the same. I'm voting for the libertarian views of Dr. Ron Paul. He wants out out of NAFTA, the WTO, bring back out military - which are stationed in over 160 countries worldwide, stop funding the War on Drugs & to decriminalize marijuana, against corporatism, and restore liberties that are under attack by the fascist Patroit Act. I may not agree on all of his views, but I can have a lot of grace for that if he actually does what he says. And I do believe him after I researched his voting record. This guy is the real deal. Youtube: 'Ron Paul'.
huckaloogie will kick paul in the nazz.
Republicans are the authoritarian party. Do as you're told. Get in line and march!
This speech is exactly why the republican party is at this very moment seaching for a off shore manufacturer of non union, cheap sweat house labor made clothes pins, for ordering large enough quantities for the entire GOP.
Of course the GOP media is trying to convince their lemmings of Rudi or Romney.
But one thing I recall that McCain in his opposition to the Presidents easedropping and torture at first and then after a hug sesion with Bush. The Maverick himself somehow was hugged and photo opted with Bush to convince McCain this could help his Presidential ambitions.
Has it?
The Republican Party is the Nazi Party. Zionism is Nazism. You think they care about America? They only care about their money and their power. And Israel. Republicans have alredy sold our country down the river. Traitors are the order of the day.
Keep your powder dry, folks.
