Here's a brief clip of McCain's victory speech in Florida where he talks about 9iu11ani in the past tense...

McCain: And I want to thank my dear friend, Rudy Giuliani---who invested his heart and soul in this primary and who conducted himself with all the qualities with the exceptional American leader he truly is. Thank You Rudy. Thank You Rudy---for all you've added to this race and for being an inspiration to me and millions of Americans.

Yea John, he ran a wonderful campaign. So good in fact that it might be the worst campaign in the history of modern politics. By not participating in the process except on FOX---he handed you Florida and New Hampshire and the lead heading into the debate tomorrow night. Bravo! Update: And how ridiculous do all the networks and pundits look over their poll driven pimping of Rudy early on in the process?

Update: What do you know. NBC confirms that Rudy will endorse McCain at the Reagan library tomorrow.

Let's get rid of Mitt "I'll flip flop on any issue" Romney.

"Exceptional American leader"? I'll say.

This feels too good.

I'm not used to it.

Every time that loser opened his mouth, another 1,000,000 Americans thought "WTF"?. Rudy is as contemptible as any candidate I can remember. I hope he is found in a derelict bar, lying in puke and piss, and crying why no one loves him.

Rudy can still finish behind HUCK!

If the last county's to be tallied are the one's that were open till 8:00, that's the west panhandle. Bible-thumping country.

Huck gets the bump from the thumps.

Aw shucks. And Rudy was such an inspiration to us all. So why did everyone go for McCain and Romney? What a thorough loser.

This is great! Rudy Ghouliani got his ass handed to him on a platter. We want "bomb, bomb, bomb" McCain in the fall. In fact, any of the rethuglican dimwits will do! It will be such fun watching them squirming through the debates in the fall...and I can't wait to see the commercials showing all of their dirty laundry.

PinkyLeftBrain's picture

Salon.com is reporting that Rudy is out and will support McCain. Announcement coming real soon now...

Wait, McCain didn't say 9/11! 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11! (Fuck-up, 9/11 happened on the Retardicons watch so to speak)

In my view, Rudy's donations from NY and elsewhere will be used to strengthen the republican base.

Is it fair to say that these politicians are robbing their states for donations in the pretext to be a president and then leave to build their party base?

So McCain now can kiss Rudy good-bye.

O.K. It's a given that rudy 9/11 dropping out of the race was a good thing.
However, what's even better is that even though the Democratic candidates didn't actively campaign in Florida, a Democrat won the overall primary.

The guy who runs "top ten conservative idiots" got Giuliani nailed down pretty well. In addition to his many, many problems, he also ran the least effective campaign I ever seen (valued in terms of political dividends and delegates obtained per $million spent).

His campaign makes Gravel's look good, or at least, not so bad.

Thank you Rudi for the indictment of your trusted friend till the end, Bernie Kerick.

Thank you for making money off the deaths of 9/11 and that Ann Coulter gave you her blessing for using 9/11 and did not give that same allowance to the widows of some of the victims of that attack for the use to encourage a commision to seek facts of that attack.

Thanks for all the campaign laughs and gaffes. It is ashamed you and Fred Thompson didn't hook up.

Most of all thanks for going away. Your campaign managing skills, 9/11 leadership and craving to torture America out of a recession will not be missed. Yet does belong either in a comedy skit or a "B" sience fiction.

By the way, Did Murdoch and Ailes approve Rudi to drop out and crown McCain?

I think McCain would take Lieberman over rudy 9-11 for VEEP.

Also, considering how many delegates Edwards has, Hillary is no shoe-in. When he (sadly) bows out, whomever he supports will likely get the nod, in my opinion.

What I found especially amusing was this bit in the New York Times in an article today on Rudy's collapse:

In interviews Tuesday, even before he gave a concession speech in which he spoke of his campaign in the past tense, Mr. Giuliani described his strategic mistakes, suggesting that his opponents had built up too much momentum in earlier primaries. But this is a rhetorical sleight of hand; he in fact competed hard in New Hampshire, to remarkably poor effect.

Perhaps a simpler dynamic was at work: The more that Republican voters saw of him, the less they wanted to vote for him.

Which could almost be called plagiarism, because it's exactly what was said in a couple of dozen comments made on a NYT blog post that talked about Rudy's "mistake in not competing in New Hampshire". Maybe the NYT is using its blogs to test out wording of stories before it puts out "real" ones?

Is that like kissing the Pope's ring at the Vatican? Or, given Republican tendencies, is it another portion of anatomy that gets the smooch? And is it the back...or front?

turboeli's picture

I hate to be a nitpicker, but McCain used the present perfect tense, not the past tense. "You have added" indicates that an event has happened at some point in the past, but that may continue to occur today. Usage of the past tense would be far more terminal in tone.

Even so, it's good to know that the raving neocon looney's gone. Anyone who is seen publicly heeding Norman Podhoretz's advice has to be disturbed.

Obama certainly has integrity.... I just don't see the competence beyond being inspiring.

Hillary seems to have the competence, but no real integrity.

Notice how quickly the GOP will boss their primary, while the Edwards camp will drag out the process till the convention which will certainly leadtoa Clinton nomination AND an ugly fight.

Edwards is the new Nader; complete with Nader endorsement I might add.

PinkyLeftBrain's picture

And the MSN article's title: "For Giuliani, a dizzying free-fall"

For Rudy the 'free-fall' happened within a month of his declaring his presidency run. He started out on the bottom one the primaries started. To say that there was a ;free-fall' ignores the less than a chance start that Rudy had when he started. To describe it as a 'free-fall' sounds overly dramatic and just silly...

Heck, that would be like me throwing a rock up in the air and mourning it not reaching earth orbit. True, the rock (and Rudy) had a chance, but not really...

Unlike the Nader cover for the 2000 election GOP hit, I could actually see Edwards doing a fantastic job as president. Nader as president? A bowl of mashed potatoes could be a better leader!

Rudy DID NOT run the worst campaign that is just not true. Fred Thompson's was far worse, he never even tried. At least Rudy told you he wasn't going to try until he got to Florida.

And so the former #1 in the polls and former #2 in the polls hit the exits, to very soon be followed by the winner of the Iowa caucus.
