Glenn Beck: McCain's buddy Hagee Reassures Beck That Obama Is NOT The Anti-Christ
By Nicole Belle Tuesday Mar 04, 2008 8:37am*Whew* I bet that was keeping people up at nights.
That's right...you have a religious leader on your show who has spouted off such crazy, hate-filled rhetoric and is endorsing the other party's candidate, and the thing foremost on Beck's mind (such as it can charitably be called) is whether Rev. "End Times" Hagee envisions a Democratic candidate as the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Apocalypse. Nice to see him contributing to the national dialogue in such an uplifting way, isn't it?

BECK: Let me ask you, because I got -- I get so much e-mail on this, and I think a lot of people do, and I`ve only got a couple of seconds. They say Glenn, you and the media, you`ve got to wake up. Barack Obama`s making people faint and cry and everything else. And he`s drawing people in.
There are people -- and they said this about Bill Clinton that actually believe he might be the anti-Christ. Odds that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ?
HAGEE: No chance. He has a lot of charisma. There`s a media love affair with him right now. He is a very formidable political person. I believe the best leader for America in the future is John McCain.
Reverend Hagee is a Class A kook. Stark raving mad. He believes someone will unite the whole world together and bring peace to everyone - and that person is the Anti-Christ. Yeah, God forbid we should have peace. So, Hagee prefers war instead.
He wants to preemptively strike Iran to start the festivities. So, will this bring peace later at least? No, exactly the opposite, it will bring Armageddon. Then nearly everyone will die - which, of course, is a great thing because Biblical prophecy will be fulfilled and the few people who agree with John Hagee will all be saved and laughing their ass off in heaven. And the rest of us will be dead. Killed by Rev. Hagee's righteous God.
This is who John McCain has been actively pursuing for an endorsement, Hagee and other "Christocrats". These same people he derided in 2000 as "agents of intolerance". As Media Matters points out:
"Some in the media continue to focus on Farrakhan's praise of Obama, even though Obama has repeatedly criticized Farrakhan, while McCain has actually embraced the endorsement from Hagee -- who has a history of inflammatory rhetoric about women, Muslims, the Catholic Church, and members of the gay community," said Karl Frisch, a Media Matters for America spokesman. "Why have so many in the media shied away from asking these tough questions of the McCain campaign? The double standard is very telling."
Full Transcripts below the fold
BECK: All right, the evangelical vote. John Hagee is here. He`s the senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, president of the John Hagee Ministries.
Let me just get this right out on the table, pastor. You`ve had some problem with the Catholics this week, and now it looks like John McCain, who you`ve endorsed, may be distancing himself. Can you explain what happened this week and what your stance is with Catholicism?
JOHN HAGEE, PASTOR, CORNERSTONE CHURCH: Certainly, I can explain that, Glenn. First, thank you for having me on this telecast.
BECK: No problem.
HAGEE: I have written a book called "In Defense of Israel." And in that book, I wrote a chapter called "The Sins of the Fathers." It`s a chapter about anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is an oxymoron. An anti-Semite is someone who is driven by hate. A Christian is someone who`s driven by love. Therefore, there`s no such thing as a Christian anti-Semite.
And in this chapter, I have talked about the anti-Semitism historically. I have criticized the Catholic Church for its past anti- Semitism. But I have also been very critical of the Protestants and their anti-Semitism, especially as led by Martin Luther.
Standing against anti-Semitism does not make me an anti-Catholic. And standing against anti-Semitism does not make me anti-Protestant. I am very much -- anti-Semitism. It makes no difference who participates in it.
BECK: All right. So let me go to the endorsement of John McCain. You`re an evangelical. Mike Huckabee is still in. He`s an evangelical. Do you believe in John McCain? Or is he kind of like the best one out there? Or tell me about your endorsement of him and why not a fellow evangelical?
HAGEE: Well, let me answer the first question about John McCain. John McCain is pro-life, and that`s a major issue with evangelicals. He has a 24-year voting record to back that up. And if there is an issue that`s visceral with the evangelicals it is pro life. The Constitution of the United States begins with the pledge to the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
BECK: Patrick, you and I -- I`ve sat down with you for an hour. I interviewed you for an hour. And I`m sorry. But I mean, when I say to you, tell me about John McCain, you go pro life first. I don`t think that fits with who I met on my set.
You are a guy who believes we are here in the end days. Is John McCain the guy to make sure that -- that, you know, the end days don`t happen as you believe we could be seeing now?
HAGEE: The fact is, and I believe John McCain brings to the presidency a mature leadership and a leadership that has the strength of character to lead America into the future in a world that`s become a very dangerous world.
BECK: Thank you very much, Pastor.
Back in just a second. That`s good news, at least where I stand.

If "fainting & crying" are signs of the Anti-Christ, then Sanjiah (sp?) surely deserves the title more than Obama. :)
Whew! Now I can vote for Obama with a clear conscience...
Frist(ish)!!
Why is being anti-christ such a bad thing?
If they replaced the idiot beck with miss cleo's hour long infomercial would anyone notice?
So does that mean McCain is the Anti-Christ?
Dear God, please rapture up these morons ASAP.
Thanks, big guy.
"Sanjaya".

The anti-christ is too superior to be black , right Hagee, Beck? you fuckin mutants.
Never mind the religious kooks; look at the ex-spooks and other unsavory PNAC black-bag types hovering around McCain. They're far more dangerous than some fat old goof lining his wallet from the proceeds of less intelligent goofs while praying for his own private dispensation-from-immolation. It's never the Religious Right shock troops who make serious national policy, but the Money Boyz.
I wish someone would start a website that listed nothing but the sponsors for these lame-brained jackasses in the media. If we truly care about changing things for the better, we need to start letting sponsors of these idiots (Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Savage et al) know that we will no longer buy their products while they sponsor the hate-filled and intolerant messages these boneheads continually spew. That is the ONLY way we can hope to take their microphones away.
Did Beck disagree?
DC @ 5:
No, Uncle-Christ.
You know, I have a book filled with nothing but these "end times" wack jobs going back 2000 years. Hagee's con game is nothing new and people buy into it as always. He isn't the first and he sure isn't going to be the last. Why anyone actually pays attention to either of those nuts is beyond me.
If being pro life is so important to evangelicals why are they so pro war? Are women suppose to keep bringing babies in this world just to see them get killed in these stupid wars?
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
By the way, I expect we will see a lot more of Hagee now since Huckabee dropped out. If McCain is going to have any chance against either Clinton or Obama he is going to need the Conservative Evangelical vote. Hagee and the rest will try their best to court that group for him and if they have to, they will make McCain out to be like the second coming of Christ.
hahahaha
that sort of desperation can only be a good sign for the democrats....
I love when 'pastors' get asked questions like this...as if at some point in their training they took a course on "Identifying the antichrist 101" ....they are the ULTIMATE bullshit artists...greedy, modern day Dr. Doolittles...my message to Hagee: get a job.
Shut up. That question was actually asked? Was it a joke? Because, um, this Barak is running for the Democratic nomination in the real world, not a fantasy one.
It's a bit like asking if he's a unicorn in disguise.
Who would have thought that Hagee would come of as more reasonable than Beck? Notice how Beck cut off Hagee when he didn't criticize Obama? I'm sure Beck wanted Hagee to say something horrible about Obama.
Pfft... idiots. Obama can't possibly be the anti christ because I...
Er... I've said too much.
Blathering fools! The best nonsensical team on television.
Are there betting lines on just who is the anti-christ? I'm putting my economic stimulus rebate on a Republican evangelical.
This seems to be a self-fulfilling prophecy and it scares me.
I always heard that Click and Clack from Car Talk were the actual anti-christs.
Vickif @ 14:
Obviously to keep the underprivileged cranking out cannon-fodder so their own spawn can grow up to be the next generation of preachers and Rethug politicians.
The media's double standard over McCain and Hagee is very telling. We know who they support. Why is Beck even on the air. Or Rove, Hannity... nevermind.
to these idiots....ANYONE that is a peace advocate is now the anti-christ. so you have your choice...those who want to hasten the rapture (which is a made up faerytale) and join the anti-christ culminating in a worldwide genocide and betrayal of the jews that won't convert -or- support leaders that want more war, death and destruction.
and ISLAM is the illicit religion? yikes!
the fucker contradicted himself within the first few moments of his interview
if it's “Christian Anti-Semitism” oxymoron, and isn’t possible (because Anti-Semitism is something directed out of hate and Christians are always motivated out of love [even when they bomb the hell out of cities and towns, put whole families to the sword, etc.] how can there be Catholic Anti-Semitism and Protestant Anti-Semitism?
oxymoron
Odds that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ?
Nah, the title of anti-Christ is already taken by the shrub.
No further proof is needed that Beck, Hagee and McCain are all certifiably insane.
The pentagon is coming out with all these new weapons aimed at defeating just one segment of the population. Gays, people of certain races, certain cultures...
Can't we just get some R&D on one that'll eliminate idiots ie. the 30 percentile that still supported Bush back when when any smart person already knew he was the anti-Christ.
Please get on it asap.
In Becks defense tho, even he thinks it is funny that people are saying this about Obama...
This guy is on CNN, just talking about the "antichrist" as if it's a done deal, a proven concept, an accepted truth. No one is there to challenge him and call bullshit on the whole idea in the first place.
This is America today. Glad I don't live there anymore. Wen I tell the people in the country I live in what Americans believe, they laugh. They actually laugh. They can hardly believe it when I tell them what upwards of 90 million people in the US believe.
We are lost.
Lost
Lost
Hag it up folks, this is the dawn of the new dark ages.
According to the rapture kooks' most authoritative source -- the "Left Behind" series -- the Antichrist will bear a striking resemblance to Robert Redford.
That rules out the current field, unless Redford himself sees an opening.
How did Beck's fans type all these emails with straight jackets on?
Hard to imagine a worse question to seriously ask someone, and on television...
(I didn't watch clip, I'll go on in life assuming this was a joke)
That Beck even asked such a STOOOOOOPID question is the more amazing thing here. Not that he is above asking STOOOOOOPID questions (they're his stock and trade.) It just shows how ridiculously maladroit these right-wing (pundits, comedians, goofballs, assclowns -- pick one) are. There is simply no filter. They just open there maws and whatever insanity pours forth is fine because they all probably have a clause in their contracts that says something like:
"I cannot be fired or suspended for anything that I say on air no matter how inane, repugnant, or factually incorrect it is. In addition, if I say anything such as described, the network must actively support it as if the words came down from God in heaven himself, and in turn promote me as some sort of authoritative visionary."
These (commentators, imbeciles, schmucks, morons,-- pick one) also know that with viewerships of say 200K at their time slots, no amount of letters are going to get them in trouble with their networks, at least not until the "Roger Ailes" of this world grow a conscience and sense of decency.
We are truly living in BIZARRO World.
CHRISTOCRATS?!?! Please don't start calling theocrats christocrats! Sounds too close to Democrat, and the repugs will start pairing dems and christo in the same sentence, like alquada and iraq, and the repubs base, the repub-aquaida, will think that dems are the party of the religious loons!
Don't let them get the seed planted, yank it out like the fetid weed that it is!
Dale @ 21:
The Chinese bookies are hoping you're wrong.
Kevin @ 30:
No, Beck likes that "people" are saying it so that he can repeat it on air and deny having anything to do with it. Like "they" did in the last election(s) be saying "some people" are saying.... I think I remember even Matt Lauer say, "some people" the dropping a poison pill on democratic politicians.
And don't defend Beck, condemn him.
AP's Nedra Pickler Strikes Again!

WASHINGTON - Congratulations, Hillary Rodham Clinton. You did what your husband said you had to do and won Ohio and Texas. Now what?
*headdesk*
I read on a message board just yesterday a guy say that he hopes the world ends before Obama can become president. No, not for the religious reasons stated above but because he hates Democrats that much. If he isn't careful with all that hate and anger his world may just end in a heart attack in some parking lot somewhere surrounded only by Repuplicans who never took the time to learn how to save a life because it wasn't in their self interest.
We Democrats need to attack Hillary. So Obama can win! Obama needs to get some balls and take out Hillary!
Oh wait a minute the Evangelical Fascist Right Wing Neocons and Rethuglicans sitting in the spectator stands eating popcorn!
Forgot about them!
I hate to say it, but in 2000 I believed shrub was the anti-Christ. That was the only way I could rationalize why anyone (let alone millions of people) could vote for a man with the intellectual capacity of an amoeba in bleach.
religious moderates are worse than nuts like this hagee guy because they allow these freaks to stay mainstream and relevant. sad...
Hagee looks amazingly like Larry "Bud" Melman.
When Beck says he gets a lot of emails asking the question, that is his straw man. It is the same tactic used by the right wing pundits for decades. Rovian, yes, but they have been using the straw man for years to scare people or get a negative message out.
I find it absolutely astounding that the arrogance of some members of the Religious Right like Hagee and the Apostolic Congress is so tremendous that they apparently believe they not only have the power but the right to try manipulating God into fulfilling the Book of Revelations according to their preferred schedule. Many of these people have actually gone as far as to memorize the Bible so that they can quite chapter and verse by heart (although many of them don't show much more understanding of it than a talking parrot taught to do the same would) -- and yet they still somehow manage to conveniently forget the verse which clearly states that nobody but God knows when the world will end.
Ron @ 44:
This countries brainwashed by Media. How can you think clearly when the Media is hammering mixed messages into your brain 24/7?
Oh how CNN has fallen. Glen "water on the brain" Beck sits there and conducts his own push-polls with every show. Its either, "I get alot of emails" (sent from his laptop), "some people say",(his dementia suffering father), or "the little voice in my head that urges me to say outlandish things in a perpetual hunt for ratings says...".
Ha ha ha...
I had to laugh at this one.
I'm Swedish, living Sweden (lived in Chicago for close to 10 years though). If any Swedish news reporter were to ask a Swedish politician a question like that, he'd be looking for a new job the next day. Only in America - only in America - will you get a way with playing your audience for being such idiots, for a question like that to be relevant. Only in America.
Shame on you all, for having created a society where this is not only possible to get a way with, but common modus operandi...
L.A. Confidential @ 46:
We have to have reason, independant thought.
I'm disappointed that things went well in the surgery while they were popping Beck's giant hemorrhoid. Damn CNN's good medical coverage!!!!
Maybe the Democrats should retaliate against Hagee by deliberately mis-pronouncing his name as "Hah-jee."
A Haji, of course, is a Muslim who has completed his pilgrimage to Mecca. Only Muslims can go to Mecca.
It would serve the idiot right for emphasizing Obama's middle name every chance he gets.
Ron @ 49:
Jerry Springer was the Anti Christ
L.A. Confidential @ 52:
Now that's independant thought. You're the only one that thinks that.
I see that the effects of Beck's anal lobotomy are wearing off already.

Time to go after the people who run the show - not their on-air functionaries.
Wikipedia has this:
On November 2, Election Day 2004, Burguiere flew to Columbus, Ohio to participate in Project Longface. This was a project started to campaign against John Kerry. A giant Waffle-Head John Kerry Float drove all over Columbus and through a P.A. system falsely informed people that Democrats were supposed to vote on Wednesday while Republicans still vote on Tuesday.
Burguiere is a strong supporter of the death penalty, especially for child molesters. He half-seriously, half-jokingly supports a policy of throwing child molesters alive into an incinerator. He has disagreed with Glenn Beck on the death penalty for many years, often discussing it live on the radio.
These are the idiots ruining the media. Go after them. Nail the suits.
Ron Paul was America's last chance to return to the status it once held around the world. Watch American Idol and keep up to date on what's happening with poor little Britney Spears. That's the most important issues in the upcoming campaign. At least, that's what a lot of the people think. We're doomed as doomed can be, ya know....

McCain is grandpa Christ
Hagee might be even sicker and more evil than people think. When I was raising teenagers (sort of a "no atheists in foxholes" stage of life, though I'm still no atheist) I watched him on TV for several minutes during a channel surf, interested in what he might be saying. What he said was that when a woman uses any persuasive tactic on her husband to make him change his mind about something, to affect his decisions in her own favor, or nags him, it is WITCHCRAFT.
This Hagee SOB....he epitomizes all that is wrong with this country, self-righteous, ignorant, hateful, and a fat tub o' lard to boot.
There should be a law to make it a FELONY for ANY so-called religious leader to endorse ANY candidate, for ANY public office.
Throw their asses in jail...see if their deity can save them. Assholes!
When Barack Obama is the nominee, Reverend Mogan DavidwithCrackers will change his narrative. Obama will quietly become the Anti-Christ. He won't be able to help himself. One day, in the heat of the general election, it will just fall out of his mouth. Obama=Anti-Christ.
As a self-taught minor theologian I can offer this...
The Bible says that no man, even Christ, knows the day of his return. (Matthew 24:36). So, take comfort that as long as people keep touting the return of Christ, it won't happen. They (Evangelicals, Baptists, etc.) can't even agree upon what happens before or after Christ returns and we expect them to get any interpretation correct?
Chico @ 58:
I just had a talk with someone in my office because I am in total disbelief that anyone could believe this nonsense. Well, someone in my office does. So, he gave his copy of Obama's first book to her to read (she has already read 13 books of the Left Behind series). The best we can do is use these moments (no matter how stupid we beleive they are) as teacheable moments. There is no better cure for ignorance than knowledge. Instead of calling them all morons, try to enlighten. Now I have to deal with the fact that this girl has admitted to listening to Hagee and she is raising a small child alone. Lord Jesus take my soul! This is too much for my poor heart today.
Bluestocking @ 45:
Hmmm...and, God wrote this down hisself?
I think I said this before but, this guy is mentally ill. Seriously, if he wasn't steeling all those fool's money down in Tex-ass he would be that guy on the street screaming about the end of the world to a light post. Pre-Regan, this guy would be an out patient at the county medical facility. You need only wade 2 sentences into his shtick before you find pure and utter fucked-upped-ness.
"An anti-Semite is an oxymoron. An anti-Semite is someone who is driven by hate. A Chri$tian is someone who is driven by love. Therefore, there is no such thing as a Chri$tian anti-Semite"
This isn't spin people, this is honest to god mental ill stark raving madness. I won't even try to parse the rest of his rant. Dude needs some a heavy dose of anti-psychotics.
Go ahead and vote for Obama his change is Socialism. Do you know what that is? Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. I don't care what you believe, believing in hell is not necessary to go there, however, believing in Jesus Christ is necessary to enter the halls of our Father, the ather of Abraham, Issaac and Jacob. What is so bad about the Anti-Christ-well if you are a Christian, it just means that all you fence riders and all you who have chosen to serve your father the devil, will feel right at home. It is a day I cannot wait for, the Godless will get judged and be thrown into the eternal lake of fire. Praise the Lord, and the rest of us will be with God forever and ever and ever...Now what is wrong with this statement. My flesh wants all of you who hate Christians to bleed, but Jesus Christ wants me to tell you He loves you and nothing you have done can cause him not to love you. He sends no one to hell but a lot of people choose to go their. Please watch your words, they can cause life or death. The Tongue is a powerful weapon, but I also want to let everyone of you who will laugh and scoff here, that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I am a Christian, I approved these comments and thank God for John Haggee and Glen Beck for getting the truth out there.
Doesn't Glenn know that Hagee thinks his Mormon religion is a cult?
Oh, and that other guy on the show with the psychotic, he needs a straight jacket and a ball gag.
Hundreds of millions of Christians believe in the eschatology foretold in the Book of Revelations. Armageddon and the Rapture is End Times theology fundamental to Christian doctrine. If Rev Hagee is an insane kook for holding to those beliefs; so are a billion Christians worldwide.
...and these assholes are credible because?
I've got NASCAR-breathing, Budweiser-swilling buddies who could do better TV than Dreck.
I thought Kenny Loggins was the anti-christ.
the rapture and the world ending is such a silly thought, i can't even comprehend it. the universe ends? human race ends? dinosaurs go extinct? the earth blows up? life continues in neighboring planet systems? time and space cease to exist..? i just really don't get this line of thought, the world "ending". but oreilly and beck adhere to stuff like this, and they tout themselves as the intellectuals.. what a world where you can be an intellectual simply by repudiating anything progressive..
If you were a Republican, like one of those old-school small government fiscal responsibility conservative means conservative spending, wouldn't you be SO EMBARRASSED that you have to share your party with a complete retard like Beck who would ask a question like this? This almost makes me feel sorry for Republicans. Almost.
Beck makes O'Reilly seem like a classical scholar.
Dale @ 3:
Date, will you stop? Do you think the atheist vote can win all by itself in November? Look at the people who believe Obama is a relative of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Ladin (I know a REGISTERED NURSE who swears it!). What do you think it'll do to people to read what you wrote? At least half of all Democrats are conventional church-goers, or raised by parents who were. Eighty-plus percent of Americans identify themselves as believers in God. Quit helping the nut-jobs lay vile claim to God Himself with comments like "what's so bad about being anti-christ," right out in front of God and everybody. Not just you, but EVERYONE who goes on that way at these progressive blogs. Where's your hospitality toward the multitude of Americans looking for any reason at all to go ahead and VOTE DEMOCRAT THIS TIME? Make them feel welcome, not pissed off and misled as to what a Democrat is. Speak your mind, for God's sake, but can you not give the Hagees of the world yet another piece of God to call their own by speaking as if Christ is who THEY say he is? They are Johnny-come-latelies, and if there is to be an antichrist, a mark of the Beast, THESE PEOPLE are that. Don't help the Beast "own Jesus."

Fundamental to AMERICAN CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE. All brought to our shores by John Nelson Darby. This Dispensation Pimp has single-handedly infused this nation's Christian churches with this nonsense. It always existed in every culture but it was never fused to a major religion before Darby introduced it to the USA. It spread like wildfire. Proving both a spell-binding narrative and a money-maker as well.
Because Hagee is...
Hagee IS the Anti Christ. He hates Christ and everything He taught. Typical Republican projection tactic.
The Dispensational Origins of Modern Premillennialism and John Nelson Darby
By Jack Van Deventer
Dispensational premillennialists claim that their unique doctrines have been held since the early church, but these claims have been soundly refuted. Far from being the historic position of the church, premillennialism was described in 1813 by David Bogue as an oddity of Church history. Postmillennialism was the dominant eschatology from the Reformation until at least 1859.
The doctrine of a secret rapture was first conceived by John Nelson Darby of the Plymouth Brethren in 1827. Darby, known as the father of dispensationalism, invented the doctrine claiming there were not one, but two "second comings." This teaching was immediately challenged as unbiblical by other members of the Brethren. Samuel P. Tregelles, a noted biblical scholar, rejected Darby's new interpretation as the "height of speculative nonsense." So tenuous was Darby's rapture theory that he had lingering doubts about it as late as 1843, and possibly 1845. Another member of the Plymouth Brethren, B.W. Newton, disputed Darby's new doctrine claiming such a conclusion was only possible if one declared certain passages to be "renounced as not properly ours."
Sandeen writes, "this is precisely what Darby was prepared to do. Too traditional to admit that biblical authors might have contradicted each other, and too rationalist to admit that the prophetic maze defied penetration, Darby attempted a resolution of his exegetical dilemma by distinguishing between Scripture intended for the Church and Scripture intended for Israel. . . . Darby's difficulty was solved by assuming that the Gospels were addressed partly to Jews and partly to Christians."
Thus, the doctrine of the separation of Israel and the Church, the foundation of dispensationalism, was born out of Darby's attempt to justify his newly fabricated rapture theory with the Bible. Dispensationalists believed justification for carving up the Scriptures came from 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) "rightly dividing the word of truth." Subsequent dispensationalists divided the Scriptures in terms of categories of people: Jew, Gentile, and Christian. Chafer taught that the only Scriptures addressed specifically to Christians were the gospel of John, Acts, and the Epistles! Pettengill taught that the Great Commission was for the Jews only.

Hey all of you who want to pull out of iraq. One of Obama's closest advisors wants us to invade and occupy somewhere else. What do you say to this?:
Samantha Power is the author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning book on genocide, and she has a professorship at Harvard (in something called "Global Leadership and Public Policy"). She is also a senior foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama. She says, "What we don’t need is some kind of early warning mechanism there, what we need is a willingness to put something on the line in helping the situation. Putting something on the line might mean alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import; it may more crucially mean sacrificing—or investing, I think, more than sacrificing—billions of dollars, not in servicing Israel’s military, but actually investing in the new state of Palestine, in investing the billions of dollars it would probably take, also, to support what will have to be a mammoth protection force, not of the old Rwanda kind, but a meaningful military presence. Because it seems to me at this stage (and this is true of actual genocides as well, and not just major human rights abuses, which were seen there), you have to go in as if you’re serious, you have to put something on the line." Also, "Unfortunately, imposition of a solution on unwilling parties is dreadful. It’s a terrible thing to do, it’s fundamentally undemocratic."

Call it "The miracle of loads of bullshit"
"If Rev Hagee is an insane kook for holding to those beliefs; so are a billion Christians worldwide."
Well said!
Joshua Lee Friday @ 86:
Joshua Lee, it is clear by everything you say that you are among the Brave and True, posting from the Red Zone in Iraq. As a soldier, you and YOU ALONE have a right to suggest we "stay the course" and "surge more troops" and "send sick troops back for 15-month deployments," though it depletes the military until these United States of America simply cease to EXIST because of Bushco's evil. So all I have to say to YOU is COME HOME SAFE. And thank you for your service, of course.
abob @ 72:
Yep they are. Your point?
Carly Corday @ 84:
time goes on, species go extinct, perceiving this as 'end times' is anthropocentric. humans are not the last thing in the universe, what, do a hundred billion other planets in the universe have a simultaneous rapture? does jesus split the sky for every planet and ride in on a white horse? it's just obvious how the rapture is the product of a very limited view of the universe.
giantpeach @ 96:
I see! I just couldn't see what you MEANT at first, what you were getting at, the possibilities were SEVERAL. And over half the things you "listed" were things I believe in, that Hagee probably doesn't. OWEE, I was so confused.
Time to go for my constitutional long walk up a steep hill, no more stalling.
Everybody...be tolerant and civil toward a believer-in-God today, okay? Don't give Hagee exactly what he's after. Don't scare away the Timorous Ones venturing here to learn more about Democrats in case they need to vote that way in November. Take my word for it that those people ARE HERE, reading everything you post, for a reason.
thanks for posting the story I send you all.
Beck was live (a rarity for him, hes usually taped and heavily edited) last night.
I think we now see why hes edited so heavily.
Q. How many hundreds of millions in a billion?
A. 10
I am an atheist and as such reject everybody's invisible buddy equally. However, it is interesting that Hagee is getting blasted for his comments regarding Jews and the endtimes when many Orthodox Jews take the position that the Holocaust is a result of the diaspora. They feel that God sent the Holocaust as a punishment for becoming liberal or reform Jews or worse; secular. As much as Hagee is a loon, that point should not be ignored either.
Carly Corday @ 97:
If the Timorous Ones truly wish to learn about Democrats, perhaps they should monitor the Democratic Party website (or attend a local party meeting). Because on the comment threads at THIS website you will find an assortment of Democrats, Libertarians, foreigners, independents, and even a few Republicans.
I wouldn't want you curious souls to be confused by what you read here.
abob @ 99:
Q. How many billions of Christians believe in the Rapture and End Times theology?
A. <<< 1
Rusty Shackleford @ 102:
LOL. Never heard of Left Behind series? What about the video games based on left behind? What about the teenage spin off of Left Behind series that sold like 10 million itself? Ever heard of Mike Huckabee, who carried like what 20 states? don't insult all of our intelligences.
First of all, Reverend Hagee, Pastor of the Total Asshole Church, get your freaking documents right:
HAGEE: ".... The Constitution of the United States begins with the pledge to the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Hey, numbnuts, it's in the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.
And while we're on the subject, the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the United States Constituion prohibits the establishment of a national religion by Congress or the preference of one religion over another, or religion over non-religion.
These religious wacko's want a theocracy, not a secular government. Establish a theocracy in this country and assholes like Hagee will become like Iran's Ayatollahs, sure as God made little green apples.
Thus endeth my lesson on the seperation of church and state; which is not to protect the churches (which is the greatest bunch of bunko men and con artists I've ever seen) but to protect the state from religious dictatorship.
geez cnn, how long are you going to let this guy drag down your name.
boycott cnn.
Clearly, Glen Beck is the 'anti-christ'.
ysbaddaden @ 12:
Let's try Grandpa Christ. John W. McBomb/McBoob/McBush/McWhatever!
Be tolerant and civil towards a believer in god...why should we? They aren't very tolerant or civil to anyone who doesn't believe the same shit they do. Maybe if they actually practice even A LITTLE of what they scream/preach, maybe they would get a warmer reception.
As I see it. They are all flaming hypocrites, who are hell bent on turning this country into a theocracy. NOT ON MY WATCH!
giantpeach @ 103:
Ever heard of Santa Claus? Ever seen "Miracle on 34th Street"? Ever seen the amount of mail sent to the North Pole every December?
There's like a billion people who believe that myth, too. Fortunately, 7-year-olds aren't allowed to vote.
"Therefore there is no such thing as a Christian anti-Semite." Wow, that's gotta take some serious rewriting of the past 2,000 years. I guess those folks who were shut in ghettos, slaughtered in pogroms, burned in an auto de fey, and gassed at Auschwitz were just in the wrong place and the fact that they were Jewish was coincidental.
"Therefore, there is no such thing as a Christian anti-Semite."
There are so many ways to knock this one down, but it's pretty pathetic he even offers it. And Hagee wants the Rapture, which in his mind would mean converting Jews and the destruction of Israel. Funny sort of tolerance there.
Beck needs to be stopped.
I have a theory that the Book of Revelation was just a weird dream articulating the beginning of a superpower culture and the end of an old one.
you have a country. they rise up against overwhelming odds against a corrupt superpower. make a pretty good first stab at a document of freedoms, rights and responsibilities. eventually they get more powerful, start going to wars. win a lot. then start losing. the populace gets mad, riots. civil war or near civil war happens. the people rising up lose. but the powers that be are scared they'll lose their jobs so they write a new document of freedoms, rights and responsibilities. then that doesn't work and the powers that be are overwhelmed either by a revolution or an external takeover. toward the end the powers that be kill a bunch of Jews... or women if there are no Jews around.
happened to England, France, Italy, Spain, Rome, etc...
Revelation is just kind of a dream sequence articulating that historic consistency. "God" (karma, fate, consistency, etc) comes down from above and "saves" the "righteous" (stark lines are drawn creating an "us vs. them" internal dissent). after the rapture, the "wicked" live amongst various "plagues". an evil leader takes over and unites everyone. then a final big battle and the evil leader loses. then "heaven" (new superpower culture takes over and its all renaissance and cherry blossoms for a few years).
it makes more sense to interpret the Book of Revelation psychologically - after all, it *WAS* a dream - than to interpret it literally.
I was raised Conservative Baptist. I ran this theory by my pastor. he wasn't such a big fan of it. quit the church not long after that. but I'm pretty convinced that the dream the apostle John had wasn't a dream necessarily about the end of the "world"... just the consistencies in which a superpower concludes a reign of superiority or power.
giantpeach @ 103:
All I'm saying is that aboob was wrong when he claimed (in essence) that all of the world's Christians believe in that Left Behind crap. It's simply not true.
giantpeach @ 88:
I have to grudgingly agree not all religious folk are sheep, but boy-howdy, the vast majority sure seems to be.
Since I am an Episcopalian, if I say that Jews are worshiping the devil, then I am an anti-Semite. But if he says it, then it is not hate but love, because he is evangelical. I like how people who aren't evangelicals aren't Christian... anyone notice that. I also like how he justifies being a dick and hateful by saying that he can't hate because he has found Jesus.
Man. What a scumbag.
Magic goody goody. Make me happy happy. Magic presents from Magic man. oohh, me happy happy. No bad magic!!! Booooo! Bad magic bad.
burnt @ 113:
Now THAT'S a damned interesting theory ya got there...ya might just be onto somethin there by golly!
Actually, Revelations is what they call Apocalyptical writing. I don't think even the Roman Catholic church takes it seriously.
It's basically saying no matter how bad thing get we'll prevail. It's not supposed to be prophetic of anything.
However it makes nonsense of the Tim LaHaye Left Behind nonsense, and shows the Rapture doctrine not to be doctrinal at all.
Not to mention John of Patmos was living in exile on a barren island. No company, no one to bounce his ideas off, no one to whom he could say, "wow, I had the weirdest dream last night," and talk it out of his system.
Uncle_Jack @ 68:
As it happens, I was raised Christian (in a comparatively liberal and free-thinking denomination, luckily and thankfully) -- but at what point did I say that this is what I still believe? If you had paid closer attention, you would have noticed that I didn't say that because my beliefs are beside the point. What's at issue here is what Hagee and others like him believe and wish to enforce on other people. My point is that Hagee and others like him tend to believe so strongly in a literal interpretation of the Bible that many of them make a special effort to memorize it word for word -- yet they remain entirely unaware of the fact that many of their words and actions contradict the text which is supposed to be the bedrock foundation of their religion.
at least these fundies have core beliefs. religious moderates want it both ways. they legitimize nutball fundies and pick and choose what to believe. they are the real problem...
Freakaloin @ 122:
I saw you in a documentary called "Jesus Camp" but not sure which one was you. *wink* I see you keeping the faith. Nice job.
uhm...i'm an atheist. guess u missed my point...or i'm missing yours...
He says anti-semites are driven by hate and christians are driven by love, so there's no such thing as a christian anti-semite. immediately after that, he says he has criticized anti-semitism not only in the catholic church but among protestants, as well. so is he saying catholics and protestants aren't christians? he then says standing against anti-semitism doesn't make him anti-catholic or anti-protestant, and concludes by saying, and this is a direct quote: "I am very much anti-semitism." easily the most entertaining minute of television I have ever seen. this guy is absolutely hilarious.
The anti-Christ is supposed to be popular with virtually everyone.
If 45% of America hates Obama he's not that popular.
BTW shouldn't these rapture bunnies be more concerned about a guy named McCain?
As in Kane murderer of Able?
McBeelzebub
StirFry @ 75:
Kenny Loggins was only the anti-John the Baptist. We still don't know who the anti-Christ will be.
Let me ask you, because I got — I get so much e-mail on this, and I think a lot of people do, and I`ve only got a couple of seconds. They say Glenn, you and the media, you`ve got to wake up. Barack Obama`s making people faint and cry and everything else. And he`s drawing people in.
Ah yes, the infamous viewer emails. People, this has to be the most disgusting, cowardly tactic I have ever seen come out of the reichwing media machine. Beck is accusing Obama of being the anti-christ but he's not taking responsibility for that, no sir! He just blames it on these mythical viewer emails. Beck: "See I'm not calling Obama the anti-christ - the viewers are. I'm just asking because of the emails!" Somewhere, Edward R Murrow is puking and spinning in his grave .
I did not know Obama was the antichrist. But I do know that beck is the antibrain!
tom wood @ 125:
That's how you pander to your audience without having Clue One what you're talking about.
yeah he pulled the email tactic when he ambushed ron paul...
From Wikipedia:
"Beelzebul claims to cause destruction through tyrants, to cause demons to be worshipped among men, to excite priests to lust, to cause jealousies in cities and murders, and to bring on war."
For some reason, that passage has GOP written all over it!
Blue Lensman @ 133:
Maybe we should call Chimpy Bushelbub.
Carly Corday @ 78:
I thought the comment hilarious and I was raised 'in the church' -- Sunday School every Sunday and church right afterwards. Wednesdays I went to AWANA after school (a Baptist program for kids that my mom liked even though we weren't Baptist) and most of my and my sibilings activities outside of school had to be church-related or they just weren't acceptable. Now is a different story, but that's another subject for another time.
I imagine it being said with deadpan delivery, a total absence of any facial expression and a very slow blink of the eyes.
Relax, the sarcasm was great; not all Christians are so uptight that they can't appreciate irreverant or sarcastic humor even about Christianity.
And these wing-nuts dare to question liberal education. These Neanderthals could use education.
bubba @ 118:
:-D ... awesome.
Religion (all of it) is such totally human-invented bullshit that this whole thing is sickening. It is mystifying how otherwise apparently intelligent beings actually believe this tripe. If there really WERE a "devil", he would have invented religion.
gene214 @ 130:
so how come Bill O'Reilly gets to accuse Arianna Huffington of being a Nazi because of what some of her posters post on her site.... if Huffington doesn't even reference those oddball posts... - but Beck gets to reference his wackly emailers in an actual interview, and we can't accuse him of the same sort of nonsense?
"some people are saying" - thats bullshit. it needs to be pushed back on these "journalists". no dude. if you're saying it in an interview then "you" are one of those "some people" who believes whatever silly bullshit you're referencing.
ysbaddaden @ 120:
Tim LaHaye's "Left Behind" series is a multi-million dollar bullshit empire. I suspect LaHaye's motives have less to do with religion than with conning the rubes out of more and more of their bucks. Gotta keep the paychecks flowing and all that. As for Revelations, I can't help but think that "John" is sitting around somewhere in the afterlife saying "What?? Christians believe I was serious about that??!! Damn, I was only writing about a dream I had during that one wicked bout with malaria. Jesus Christ!!!"
burnt @ 140:
You seem to have completely misunderstood what I wrote. I was commenting on a very specific tactic being employed by reichwing bobble heads when they want to push a specific meme without taking any responsibility for it. O'Reilly's a lying, batshit crazy piece of shit. Leave it to him to actually call somebody like Ariana Huffington a NAZI. I wasn't even referring to that in my previous post.
gene214 @ 141:
LaHaye is to literature what Ray Kroc was to fine dining.
Isome @ 136:
That's purty dang cool...fer a christian..;)
Hagee makes me ashamed I was born in San Antonio.
tom wood @ 129:
Michael Bolton?
My preference isn't Revelations but Nostrildamus, the nasal gazer.
Did he just say "I am very anti-Semitism"
....?????????????????????? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
