Fox News Sunday: Lindsey Graham gets called out on his "surge" BS
By SilentPatriot Saturday Mar 29, 2008 3:45pm
Senator Graham tried his very hardest on Fox News Sunday to spin the depressing news out of Iraq in favor of St. McCain before Jack Reed smacks down his doublespeak. Bush/Graham/McCain/HolyJoe/Cheney/etc. keep saying that both decreasing violence and increasing violence mean the surge is working. Sorry, guys, but you can't have it both ways.

Senator Graham = hack.
Why not? Who's going to stop them? I'm not trying to be snarky, but it's true. These guys do what they want, when they want, using any excuse at all to pretend to cover their asses. The sad reality is, they don't seem to have to. It was a unanimous decision to invade Iraq on both sides of the political spectrum, except for the odd holdout, who still seem to be holdouts. This was "after" they were shown the NIE breafings. Hey, some even said they didn't read it, but hey, are still getting almost 50% of the Dem supporter votes. Amazing, simply amazing.
but you can’t have it both ways.
It seems to me that they have had it both ways/all ways for years.
Sharing in revenue? What revenue? Who's sharing what and where?
Similar to the talk of tax cuts in 2000. Before the economic trouble Bush argued we needed tax cuts because the government was too flush, after the trouble he argued we needed stimulus to recover. And nobody blinked.
The Neocons, and their hacks, like Graham, will pay for the huge f/u in Iraq that they lead us into. We all will pay. But the Neocons will get their due as people come to understand the complete misjudgement, (and in the interests of Israel, not America) that these idealogs conned us into.
Yup, they will get a free pass as usual.
getalife @ 7:
EXACTLY !!!
I have given up on my fellow Democrats.
It doesn't matter how long we keep our troops there. As soon as we leave, they're gonna fight their civil war, whether we leave now or 100 years from now. Let's stop wasting money and putting American lives in danger for the crap...and own up to the fact that invasion was a mistake and there's no "winning" this war. We already removed Saddam from power...that's enough of a "win" as far as I'm concerned.
BoilThemInTheirOil @ 6:
Agreed 100%. Especially the part about Israel. I'm sick and tired of paying in blood and treasure all for the sake of that rubbishy little troublemaking country in the Middle East. Don't you think we should start thinking about, say our own country now that they have caused us to implode? Isn't that enough?
Where was the BS calling in that clip? Huckleberry spun about a dozen lies in the span of two minutes.
The Green Zone is no longer a safe place for anyone and somehow, someone actually thinks the surge is working.
How dumb can conservatives get?
graham is your typical "used car salesman" repug. He talks out of his ass, and the right wing audience all move in closer to listen. What idiots.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this mess in Iraq has been stalled ONLY because we bribed the warring factions with our future sinking economy funds, and now they are telling us to "take the money and shove it".
It's time to open your eyes America, and face the reality that is there. We are NOT winning anything. We are finding ways to put a damper on the slaughter, but once we back out or stop bribing the parties, they whole card house falls down in fire.
It's going to be a stinking mess when we leave...for sure. But what is it now?? And are we SO CERTAIN that it will be a stinking mess when we leave??? We all accept that as a forgone conclusion. Vietnam was something totally different. You had the communist forces taking over their enemy. This will be turning the country back to the people it belongs to.
I'm not so sold on this "slaughter when we leave" line. WHY??? They have enough malitias to keep the parties apart, and they certainly have all of our munitions to make it happen.
What a milktoast response. Every time neocon says Al Quaida the repsonse should be these are Iraqis fighting. No one is pointing out that Maliki is supported in Iran. We, the U.S. knows it, and as Juan Cole says 'we come out and lie about it every day'. Thanks for nothing Senator Reid.
I wish someone would reveal those nasty photos or videotape they have on Lindsey Graham, so we wouldn't have to listen to his constant cheerleading of these war criminals.
What for the moment where Graham says "I am very confident that General....uh Senator McCain..." The Republican talking heads are so brainwashed into supporting General Petraeus they can barely talk about Iraq without praising him.
What was most disturbing was Graham placing the blame on Iran when it is Maliki's forces with our support on the offensive. I suppose if you consider that we put Mailki in power and he is aligned with Iran then a case can be made.
This is all about taking out the opposition, Maliki's forces included, in order to pave the way for the assault on Iran. As is the navy off of the coast of Lebanon, the Israelis dusting up Gaza, and air strikes in Pakistan to warn them that they need to stay away too because they are not immune. It won't be long now and it won't be pretty.
After Bush meets with Putin and tells him to get his consultants out of Iran it will be time shortly thereafter.
this effete senator is going to have it both ways, as he more than likely often does. just look at him, i'm sure he's rather used to 'having it both ways'. and yes i am implying that. who cares, i dont. but im free to say it. im sick of the bs.
"The Iranians are killing Americans..."
No they are not. Sure some of the weapons are Iranian, but that doesnt mean the Iranian government are supplying them. And even if Iran did actively supply al Sadrs militia with weapons and money by Grahams logic, you can argue that the Americans are killing Palestinian children.
Of course the difference being the Americans killed in Iraq are part of an unwelcome occupying army, and as such are military targets, while Palestinian civilians suffering under a US-supported foreign occupation, are not military targets..
Every time I look at Lindsey Graham, I can't help but see a kid who's just stepped off the short bus with a backpack that's way too big. The complete nonsense that comes out of his mouth completes the picture; but the retards are at the helm and are all over the airwaves as expert commentators. I'd like to think the intimate familiarity American voters have gained over the past seven years, with the telltale signs of retardation and criminal insanity, will innoculate us from ever again letting our government fall into the hands of such incompetents. However, although public opinion's turn against the GOP is promising, the fact that they were able to get in the door in the first place makes me wonder if the American electorate hasn't been snacking on lead paint chips too.
Apologies if I've offended anyone with loved ones who ride the short bus. I meant no offense by comparing them to the GOP.
mystic @ 10:
Anybody else notice Lindsey Graham's talking points? "They're using Iranian weapons...they're being aided by Iran....Iran....Iran....Iran.....
We're being set up...again...by Israel and it's AIPAC agents who are controlling U.S. foreign policy. The coup is complete. As Scott Ritter said last fall in an article on Commondreams, "We might just as well raise the Israeli flag and call it a day".
Sadly, Clinton and Obama are just as on board with Israel as McCain. Israel has a horse in every race for November. The only losers will be the American people and the people of Iraq and Iran.
And for a little more background on how Israel and the United States have colluded against the American People read this testimony posted about two weeks ago from a survivor of the USS Liberty:
http://ussliberty.wordpress.com/2008/03/12/one-hundred-twenty-seconds-fr...
So here's the logic of the Neo-Con..
Iran is funding the mardhi army who have been murdering civilians and killing sunnis..
Yet at the same time McCain wants us to believe that Iran is funding Al-Quaeda.. a group that has been kidnapping, targeting and murdering shia muslims.. and been engaed in gun battles with the mardi army..
Abbybwood @ 21:
exactly !well spoken !!!!
bubba @ 5:
Beat me to it... Economy good... Tax Cuts! Economy Bad... Tax Cuts!
But as stated above, this is nothing new, and they will not be called on it. As stated in the Downing Street Memo, in this Administration, facts are fixed around the policy. So it is absurd to try to debate them logically, for they are not looking to be persuaded.
Sen. Reed, thats it?
Why didn't you just called Sen. graham out for what he is, a liar!!
So.
breakspear @ 18:
effeminate would be more appropriate
Richard B. Cheney @ 26:
LMAO
Where was the smack down?
...As Wendy pondered Britney's latest meltdown, and what it meant for pop music and this year's spring fashions, the loudspeaker blared out, once again, "Violence is peace. Don't forget our blue-light special in aisle four."
Good Grief!
Where does this guy hang out when he visits Iraq? Try to cut down on the margaritas the next time you visit the Green Zone Senator.
GrammyinPA @ 8:
Tar and feathers.
Notice how Graham points out how the big accomplishment was driving al-queda out of Anbar?
Notice he didn't say we've defeated or killed the terrorists? Based on this reasoning we can chase Iraqis all over Iraq forever and ALWAYS BE WINNING!
bubba @ 5:
the graph showing US national debt over the years 1960 to present is horrifying.
Nobody with a brain would vote Republican if they saw it, sadly of course there are lots of people out there with no....
Once again, what is the definition of winning in Iraq?
We know that Wallace is a Fox News "hack," but why can't anyone else ask for a definitive answer?
Could it be that there isn't one?
Elections in Iraq in October? Gee, I guess scheduling elections one day before ours would have been a little too obvious.
Reports of the latest US air strikes in Sadr City and Baghdad differ greatly in the numbers dead; from 6 to 16 to 26 to 60. 60 is from an Italian news service: the American ones are all low. (Big surprise.)
Like shooting fish in a barrel: they're walled in and the helicopters are overhead. Comply with the US puppet regime, or else...
From CTV News (Canadian) ..."U.S. President George Bush, speaking at a White House news conference Friday, said the fighting marks a "defining moment in the history of Iraq.""
???????????? If you say so..... I mean, WTF?????????????????
Dave @ 29:
Seriously...I love C&L, but every time they assert that someone was "pwned" or "smacked down" or such, I watch the video and think, "Um, is it possible you overstated the case?" It is very rare that someone is really, truly put in their place to the degree that even their supporters would have to acknowledge it, and that for me is the measuring stick.
I just smacked you down, C&L!
(kidding--I do love y'all)
ronnyg @ 38:
If you are waiting for someone to truly get "smacked down" in the media, you'll have a long wait. Hell will freeze over first, and thanks to global warming, that's not gonna happen either.
Al Qaida, Al Qaida, Al Qaida
Bill Maher said it well: There is no Al Qaida in Iraq. I followed this claim since it was made. I knew Bush would use Al Qaida to continue this war. Slowly he started attributing every bombing, every kidnapping and every killing to Al Qaida. Even though there was an intense civil conflict going on in Iraq, he dismissed it to make his claim our number one enemy was more of a force in Iraq then it was.
Of course we would not refuse to support the effort to kill those who brought down the two towers. He has been using the American people's revenge emotions to stay in Iraq. For that alone, he should be impeached. When Bush is removed, and we get a Democrat in office, we must investigate this very lie. Many died because of and many continue to die because we overlook this lie.
To stop Bush and now John McCain from using the Al Qaida fear, we must put them on record for every claim they make. Yes make them know we know they are lying.
For now, most visual account for what damage is being done with our so-called surge has been blacked out. If you have not noticed, very little is coming out of Iraq these days. They don't want us to see this made up front on a made up force in Iraq.

Anybody else notice Lindsey Graham’s talking points? “They’re using Iranian weapons…they’re being aided by Iran….Iran….Iran….Iran…..
Strange that...one should ask Lindsey Graham then... Why is it that the US is supporting the pro-Iranian group in Iraq?
Edwin Hussein (not a scary black Reverend) @ 37:
the final solution or the final eradication of opponents of the puppet regime, its one carefully planned out operation.
they draw out the bravado idiots wielding AK47s and then use AH64s and AC130 Specters to blow them to kingdom come.
democracy in action, support the regime or die.
Nomor Idios @ 1:
Senator Graham = closet homo
Democrats REALLY must start responding to the NEO-CON bullshit in a more meaningful tone... like LAUGHING IN THEIR FACES... or saying, "You really don't expect anybody to BUY THAT, DO YOU?" or... "Please, Senator, we've heard that tired old song too many times before."
This polite debate-mode they are always in makes it sound like the Republicans should be taken seriously!
ferrofluid @ 42:
I think the "defining moment" was referring to the final capitulation of Sadr giving the impression of an overall reduction of violence and further support for the success of the surge. The Iraq conflict must be minimized as much as possible in the coming months so as to similarlarily minimize the number of questions to the candidates. Also, expect other Brittany
eruptions about the same times.
I think our future Vice President did exactly what was expected of him in teeveeland: he lied. More where that comes from.
I'm sorry but that has to be the weakest smack down yet. I literally watched the clip 3 times just to catch the smack down. Cmon..call him a liar right there and then to his face WTF!
Zenrage @ 12:
Don't know if its real "How dumb can conservatives get".
They seem to be getting it their way and HAVE been, and looks like will continue to get their way.
My question is how dumb can the rest of us be to allow it to happen.
Why do we allow the congress and senate to allow what is going on.
If they won't stop it, then why don't we go after the senators and congressmen.
After all they are not looking out for America, are they. If we go after them in force, maybe enough of them will wake up and turn this bull shit around.
Its not the conservatives fault, they just doing what they can get away with.
It is the fault of 'WE THE PEOPLE"
Graham was trying to make a point about Iran being a threat and we should attack them ASAP. When have the Bushies EVER not done what they damn well pleased? We will be fighting Iran before the Democratic Convention. That is a given.
You have to wonder if people like Graham and Lieberman and McBush, et al, really believe the junk they are speaking? Or are they just saying what they hope will get enough dumb people to vote for them? I tend to think that this time around there are a lot less dumb people.
lindsey is just another wholly owned corporate senator no honesty no integrity no intelligence as far as I can see. Just an american that sold out.
fuck him and the rest of the republican scum!
I think we need a law, with enforcement and punitive teeth, that makes it a crime for a U.S. official to lie to us under color of authority. Lindsey the Liar.
Just a greasy lying little whore , one of the worst .
Poor Lindsey. She is such a mess. I think she is now the new Roy Cohen.
Given the evidence, Sen. Linsie Glam's comments on Fox Noise Swineday were nothing short of outrageous. Here is this mincing poof telling us -- and I QUOTE -- "What we have [in Iraq today] is political reconciliation." This, after news reports that Basra remains a violence-torn city where even the Shiites are split into factions. It serves as an object lesson in just the opposite of what Linsie Pooh claims. No sooner do we co-opt Sunni insurgency in al-Anwar Province by -- get this -- bribing the insurgents with our hard-earned tax dollars, armed civil warfare breaks out somewhere else.
We're told by the McPain brown-nosing Linsie that Maliki may have been slow to move against Al-Sadr's Mahdi Army in Basra, but the task was finally undertaken. And to what result? Maliki decided the job was too formidable, so he moved to placate and accommodate the Shia cleric instead. Read: capitulation. In other words, not one inch of progress toward "political reconciliation." Just buying time, using the U.S. occupational forces to forestall the inevitable, sacrificing American lives for nothing.
I don't think Sen. Reed wanted to look bad, so he mostly smiled uncomfortably at Linsie's asinine remarks. None of the Dems wants to look bad by being held responsible for the inevitable blood bath. But the arguments for staying in Iraq make no sense: if we stay for a hundred years (as McPain suggests), the all-out civil war will follow as surely as a gas pump sucks a college education. Or, like the tired Texas sheriff says at the end of No Country for Old Men: "There ain't no end to it."
Michael @ 9:
Well-said!
Please stop overusing the macho expression "smack down." That was not a smack down just because you agree with the sentiment. It was just a rather uncharismatic response to a different opinion.
gwen @ 57:
Couldn't agree more. What a let down for C&L staff to hype it up and then for us to watch it only to be like, Huh?!
My gawd, these neo cons have a hard on for attacking Iran. it is only a matter of time. If they manage to pull it off before the election, it's all over folks. Bush declares martial law and the election (and what's left of our freedoms) is over.
This prissy little fucker is a zit on the butt of this country, what state of turd farmers sent this crook to congress?
in the interest of the coming election PLEASE FOLLOW THESE RULES
I will only be happier when everyone refers to McCain by his new title... the one he is RUNNING FROM... because he knows how reality hurts...
Going forward, I will only refer to John "The Republican" McCain, as such.
His team has gone to GREAT EXPENSE to keep this label off of him--- but I believe he should wear it proudly... "like a lapel pin"
