Why does Fox News keep this man employed? Even though he is ideologically aligned with Fox's political agenda, one would think they would get wise to the fact that BillO HURTS whatever brand equity the Fox name has left.

After all, it's a business. O'Reilly is so reviled, so unpopular, and so tawdry (Andrea Macris, anyone?), that just his presence and association with the network more than offsets whatever ratings and ad dollars he is still able to produce.

I predict that Fox gets wise to O'Reilly's tired act and fires him in the next year. At least I hope so. Rupert Murdoch may be a merchant in sleaze, but he is a sharp businessman and knows what someone like BillO has passed the point of diminishing marginal returns. He's a negative asset for that network. Period.

There is probably a problem if Fox fires O'Reilly. The problem is that O'Reilly is nearly universally reviled as you said and that makes him irrelevant for all practical purposes. But they could replace him with a new face who starts off seeming reasonable such that people may actually like him and then his true Fox colors will start to come out and he'll be as noxious as Bill but it will take years before people catch on and marginalize him to where O'Reilly is now.

It's not a case of sticking with the devil you know. It's a case of Fox keeping someone who hurts their cause and by extension helps everyone else's.

if you take a look at his demo, it really doesnt make alot of sense to keep him employed

most of his viewers are well outside the 18-49 range that advertisers crave...but i dont think fox really cares

he drums up contoversy...and that is what fox is all about

and his viewers (and radio listeners) dont care about this vid, writing it off as his being human, not realizing that not only does lufa boy come off as an idiotic bufoon (he didnt know what "to play us out meant" and it was apparent that he didnt write his own copy or even go over it before going on set) but that his culture warrior stance is a total sham

they dont care...just like they dont care that el druggo is an addict and a pedofile...and just like they dont care that hannity is an illiterate who wouldnt be able to get through a show were it not for the talking points handed to him by rove and other operatives

the target audience wants just a few things from these shows...to feel that they are right, to feel that they are the true victims in american society, and to feel that its ok to hate everyone who doesnt think the way they do
