Liz Trotta Apologizes

Trotta: I am so sorry about what happened yesterday. In a lame attempt at humor I really just fell all over myself in making it appear that I wished Barack Obama harm or any other candidate for that matter. I sincerely regret it and apologize to anybody I've offended. It's a very colorful political season and many of us are making mistakes and saying things we wish we hadn't said.

Not to excuse what she said yesterday on Fox News, because everyone should know there's just no excuse for it even if it was meant as a joke gone awry, but for someone who had gotten herself into this kind of a situation, this is exactly what needed to be said. Good for her.

I'm sure that she is veeeeeeeeery sincere....

If apologies matter, that's a pretty good one.

These people can't help but let their hatred bubble over in this colorful electoral season.

Yes, Liz, "many of us" are making mistakes, alright. So, of course since "many of us" are making mistakes during this "colorful" political season, that tempers your responsibility. Nice qualifier, you twit.

I'm glad she apologized but as the host of the show said - "tell me how you really feel." Fox, more than ever, should be boycotted. I believe it's a travesty that they will have the press feed at the Democratic Convention. Should never have been decided that way and must be protested against!

Bull + Shit = another insincere reich-wingnut "apology"

Holy crap ... an actual "sorry" ..

not "sorry if I offended anyone that misconstrued my comments"
but "sorry, i F-ed up and said something stupid"

Are we sure that was really Fox News?
Really?
Wow!

Call me krazy.....but I think it was scripted. Fox are dirty players but what really gets me is that there are people who believe there b.s. They are so over the top...regardless of what party you belong to. I guess if they reported the truth no one would watch......okay I get it.

Let's see her get grilled by the other networks. Coming from Faux Nooz, I doubt the sincerity.
OK, let's see what happens next.

Try making a lame attempt at humour the next time you check in for a flight Liz, and using something like 'bomb in my luggage' or 'blow up the plane' in it. I'm sure everyone will get a big chuckle over you trying to apologise for THAT one.

Sheesh

it's like being in court and bringing up inadmissible evidence, the jury is told to ignore the evidence at tit is stricken from the record but.....

the jury still heard the evidence

This is an effective tactic, the "toothpaste out of the tube, the bell has rung" theory. Say what you want to make your point, then retract/apologize. The tactic always works, the damage always done. Apologies are cynical/meaningless. This is not the last assassination "joke" we will be hearing.

Well, at least she said "colorful" instead of "colored I mean black I mean negro OH MY GOD THE DARKNESS."

I still say "FIRE THAT BEE-OTCH"!!

isn't this inside of a week of huckabee making a poor attempt at humor talking about obama ducking a bullet?

was it really just a slip, it seemed entirely as contrived as her slipping in "osama" rather than obama... she even paused and thought about the name for a moment, and then went ahead and said "osama".

C*nt. anyway, to be slightly more candid, somebody should [Deleted-Sitemonitor].

Oh wait, I apologize, I got lost in the "colorful" political season. lol.

I'm sure she actually is mortified if for no other reason that this kind of thing can kill careers. It's a real apology at least, not one of those 'if I offended some overly sensitive pearl clutches, I guess I should apologize' apologies.

1] Trotta is a hack.
2] She should be fired for her comment.

It aint a REAL apology today until she invokes Jesus, the 'Lord and some kind of personal praying session she held with God. Til then it's just "Ooops, i got caught, sooooo sorry. til next time.....heheheheheheh."

Can the ol' whore.

Can't imagine (rolling eyes) what Fox "News" or the rest of our "media" would be doing right now if this were said about Bush or McSame. All the apologies in the world wouldn't make a bit of difference.

She is an award-winning professional journalist and has no excuse for the several mistakes and unintentional body-language in her "joke" yesterday.

First of all, she should never fumble Senator Obama's name. That's just incredibly unprofessional and inexcusable for a woman of her calibre.

Second, her smirk, tilt of the head and tone when she said, "or both of them," yesterday was extremely telling. It was authentic, unscripted, gut-level honest. It's how she really feels, period.

Third, she should have apologized not only for her (b.s.) "lame" attempt at humor (and it's not funny on any comedy scale), but for screwing up Senator Obama's name, for giving longer legs to a despicable story (Sen Clinton's ugly remarks that set this off) and for furthering the dialogue.

If she had any class, she would have commented that the entire premise of the Clinton argument was flawed, tacky, irresponsible and beneath the dignity of any thoughtful person.

But, no, she had to pile on. Her apology is not only insincere, it's not even apologizing for the right things.

F-- her, F--- Faux Noise, F--- Hillary, and anyone else who justifies this atrocious garbage or dares to blame the victim, as the Clinton camp is now doing.

We should not stand for it.

that was the most condescending apology i have ever heard...some of you people are listening to her words and not her tone of voice

i hope the [Deleted. Site Monitor] gets [Deleted] by a bunch of rabid badgers...and i wont apologize for that statement

she has no buisiness being an analyst for anything...

The problem is that right wingers have developed an unseemly habit of making nasty inappropriate comments that they just can't help themselves. Perhaps Americans are finally starting to become repulsed by their offensive and inflammatory rhetoric so right wing nut jobs are finally being forced to apologize.

Haw haw haw....

"Colorful", she says.

Ah well!

At least Obama is getting something from her. Why couldn't Hillary just say she was sorry and move on. Instead she tries to explain it away, then she blames the media, now she's blaming Obama. When will it stop?????

Why hasn't the Secret Service investigated her threat against a Presidential contender? If she had said this about Bush she would be in leg irons already.

Yeah her apology was a good one. Pity Hillary's couldn't have been as good.

No, this was NOT what was needed to be said. Her apology doesn't mean shit. She should be FIRED! What does it take for one of these neocon gasbags to lose their jobs? She LUAGHS about the assassination of a presidential candidate, and some lame-ass apology is good enough. She shouldn't be allowed on ANY news network, whether Fox or not. She should be shunned, ridiculed and banished. If Olbermann had said this about McCain or Bush, Secret Service agents would have flooded the MSNBC offices 5 minutes after the comments were made. And how come that idiot Bill Hemmer isn't taking some flak, too. He, by finding her comment amusing, basically agrees with her.

I'm not that familiar with her or her work. It was a stupid thing to say, but it's good she apologized.

Apology not accepted. Fox News, and the idiots that go on there, can take their hate filled violent rhetoric and stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

And yet we are still waiting months for Brian Kilmeade to apologize for his "lets go do car bombings" and "they should be tasered" comments on Faux

Sorry I got caught showing my hate for people who will not believe the way I want them to, sorry from these folks is a four letter word!---CEO

Unfortunately all an apology does at this point is draw more attention back to the original remark. Mission accomplished.

Yes, condescending was the word that immediately came to my mind. The apology is hollow and sounded trite.

On the other hand, she, like Hillary, said something in the heat of the moment and I don't for one minute believe she wished Obama dead like she wished Osama dead. Sometimes you equate a true feeling --- like say you don't like Democrats --- with something more serious.

Anyone remember the film 12 Angry Men? "I'll kill you" doesn't always mean "I'll kill you", does it?

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt to that extent, although I agree she has proven herself unfit to be a responsible commentator --- even on a network brim full of irresponsible commentators.

Sounds like an elitist snob being forced to apologize. The only thing missing was she wasn't holding her nose as she was being forced to read the script. But I'm sure her fingers were crossed.

Yes, "Colorful." Please insert other large foot in mouth now, thank you.

HRC said it 'in the heat of the moment' four or five times over several months...

What's great is how she pretends to be surprised he's asking about it...

And of course there's an irony that she was making the mistake about words spoken without thinking when talking about Clinton's apparent slip about assassination. Sigh.

"It’s a very colorful political season and many of us are making mistakes and saying things we wish we hadn’t said."

Would she accept such an excuse were it given by a tree-hugging America-hater? What if Hillary herself said it? This is as phony an apology as they get.

This is too little too late. Any FOX person (seeing FOX news is a clearing house for this administration) says anything like that, it was not a "oops" moment or has been used for McCain recent a "senior moment". At least McCains senior moments lately are his being uniformed unlike what this idiot said on a national news network.
Making those comments she did was about as light hearted in comedy as someone grabbing their chest in the middle of a major heart attack.
It seems to me the latest comments being made in this vain by Clinton, Huckabee and now this fool is like they are sending out their stamp of approval for some nutcase to hit the streets. We've seen it over the many years in our Nations existence that these nutcases are out there and looking for a green light.
God knows there is always some nut out there that has mulled this scenario over in their warped mind so why try to get them motivated by making these totally criminal and horrid comments????
It was uncalled for and she knew this from the get-go and anyone who buys this so-called apology.....well I have some swamp land in the middle of a desert....are you interested?

Wishing a presidential candidate dead is an attempt at humor? Yeah, its as funny as playing "Dead Kennedys' songs the day that Ted Kennedy's diagnosis and prognosis became public. Proof positive that John Stuart Mill was right, nearly 200 years ago, when he said "While its not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative. If Imus lost his job for non-murderous-but-idiotic "joke" . . .

Now why can't Hillary Huckabee make such an apology? Even a condecending one?

Is Trotta a more decent human being?

Any left leaning Libural who makes such a comment about a RW politician would be investigated by the FBI and harassed to the point of suicide or some such accident, or find their name and address passed onto reichwing hate websites with the resulting events that would follow.

On the brighter side, teh internets and sites like C&L jumping right on this forced her into making this apology. Never would've happened 10 years ago.

I hope for the sake of 'fair and balanced' both Liz Trotta and Brian Kilmeade are both on the TSA 'no fly' lists now for their terroristic comments.
But of course they wont be, those lists are only for furreigners and domestic dissidents of the ruling regime.

Not good enough, and where is Hemmer's apology for laughing & joking along with her?

I believe her. Listening to the original clip - I felt she had inadvertently boxed herself in - that she didn't realize what she had implied even. Terribly careless and unprofessional - but I felt that was true.

And god knows - I know that virtually NOTHING good comes from anyone on Fox news.

Thank you for doing the right thing Ms. Trotta.

Liz Trotta said she wished Obama dead. HRC did not say anything like that. Many are assuming she wishes it, but she did not say it.

Getting a Republican to apologize for anything is extremely difficult, so I have to commend Ms. Trotta for her gesture.

Well, the cretins at FAUXNEWS are always saying stupid shit-but always aimed at Democrats. Apology? Fire the whore.

Democrats should start boycotting FAUX again.

"Good for her"? Maybe. I tend to think that when people say things like "I apologize to anybody I’ve offended," it's because they're sorry they got caught, more than anything else.

Of course, Hannity and Limbaugh say crap like this every day, and no one makes them apologize for anything...

btw: for all those who want to "fire the whore", Liz Trotta is only a contributor, not a Fox employee.

she managed to get his name right this time.

without the hyperbole, lets analyze what she said before we make the assumption of it being said in "the heat of the battle"

first, she mixed up osama and obama.....

we now know that this is not a mistake...it has been done time and time again to remind voters how much obama sounds like osama and to push the allegations that obama is a muslim and/or is not truly american....and its working...i have friends and relatives who insist he is a muslim and repeat his name over and over

then she chuckled as she mumbled "i wish we could do them both"...there was no heat here...she wasnt being pounded with questions...she was sitting calmly and what came out of her mouth was on her mind

she is not sorry

this is the tact that we will see throughout the general....

so the godly huckabee, queen hillary and now this hack have all alluded to the assasination of a sitting senator and presumptive presidential nominee

in the 60s, this wouldve gotten you the swift boot, and ended your career

now we have to understand that people make mistakes?

im having none of that

and thank you monitor for making people play match game with my original statement...you really should just delete the entire offending line, cuz now they will be putting in a ton of madlibs

nibbled to death?

Is apologizing for something you wish you hadn't said the same as apologizing for something you didn't mean? I'm sure she wishes she hadn't said it but behind her words, how does she really feel? Also, combined with the Huckabee thing (the Clinton gaff was an anomaly) could there be some odd strategy here? I dunno. It's just creepy and I hate to have to put my baloney-ometer on full power all the time.

Its not even polite or good to wish McCain a nasty death, hes a fortunate son with a dodgy past and all that,
but still a human being and has a right to breathe and make a fool of himself.
He would have made a better POTUS than the Chimp in 2000 (anybody or any inanimate object would have) but almost nobody wants him now.

I'm sure she is said she said what she truly feels. I hope as I do for the shrub and shooter that they have a long life of public humiliation.

I thought only nags trotted.

Correct, 'ooops I said it' isnt the same as "I am sorry, it was a mistake to say it and I didnt mean it"

So what? She apologized... great. She should still be unemployed.

If i stole from someone I worked for and got caught, I could apologize until my
face turns blue... and I'd still deserve to be fired.

So being stupid is neither construed as a threat or a malicious statement, and some "regrettable" soundbite makes everything okay?

I dont think so. She should not be allowed on FOX.

Trotta: I am so sorry about what happened yesterday.

I'm really sorry I got caught with my real feelings out in the open.

I wrote a lot on C&L telling you all ,"Demand that she apologize!" and saying it wouldn't come and if it did - it would be insincere etc. She did a darn good job of apologizing so I think we can let her off the hook, but that video still exists. Liz Trotta is not a politician. Good enough apology. I guess a good follow up question to her apology would have been - "You insinuated ,as a joke, that Obama's being "knocked off" would be good. OK, you say it was a joke. Would you have made the same joke about McCain? Why not?"

I sincerely regret it and apologize to anybody I’ve offended.

Translation:

I'm sorry some people are offended about assassination jokes. I sincerely regret that the rabble and riffraff don't have a sense of humor about their own being taken out.

I'm sorry if I don't accept this "apology". I'm sorry she doesn't really regret anything other than the blowback.

It should be expected that if you imply directly of or mention by name a person in such a death or assassination reference, you SHOULD apologize directly and by name to THAT person.

No matter the hair-splitting definitions of the word 'it' coming from HRC, she still should clear the air and direct an apology directly to Obama and to his wife and his kids. Timeline ... shimline, the inference was there.

As for Trotta, yes you offended me a bit with your tasteless comment, but similarly, I would get back on the air and DO THE APOLOGY PROPERLY and direct it by name to Barack Obama and his wife and kids and supporters.

Y'know someone ought to test this on Fox and observe what happens. What if somone deliberately went on Fox now that this has happened and said something like... "well if we wanted to take out McCain so bad why didn't we...excuse me Hussein...well, hey, either one, why didn't we just assassinate him..." It paints a rather different picture.

I know it's a holiday and all but I can't help but feel there are bigger issues to focus on than mincing the words of an apology from a 2nd rate Faux journalist.

What else you got, C&L?

As about sincere as fox "news" and as far as " everybody making mistakes " lol ya , Everybody accidentally makes comments about whacking a politician . No Trotta , you are NOT sincere , you just reveal what you clowns probably joke about in the back rooms . from the NYT caucas

Privately, aides to Mr. Obama were furious at the remark, particularly because his safety is a particularly sensitive issue. He was the first presidential candidate to receive Secret Service protection more than a year ago because of specific threats, none of which were disclosed.

Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, which has refrained from engaging Mrs. Clinton in recent days, called Senator Clinton’s statement “unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.”

OMFG how they attack poor innocent Hillary, the horror.

As hollow as the courage of a pro-war Republican.

biyatch

Alot of you need to let this go. She apologized and it seemed like she meant it. Her original comment should at the very least get her suspended but alot of people commenting on this entry are showing exactly why some get called "the looney left".

She's obviously lost [to steal from Obama I believe] some of her bearings as has most of Fox (back to being as bad as their Bill Clinton days).

Seems fine to move on from this one.

"Apology" unacceptable, racist cow. Those words slipped out far too easily for them not to have been on your lips every day at the bar.

Calling for assassination of political figures is beyond the pale for a member of the "press". Apology is necessary, but insufficient. Frankly she should be finding a new profession and having the Secret Service tap her phones and investigate her internet records for the next few years.

What a lame apology!

...let's see within the span of a week:

Obama ducking gunfire - Huckabee

"assassination" could be a factor in changing the inevitable nomination of Obama - Clinton

Osama...Obama, one in the same to me...kill'em - Trotta

Doggiebobo @76

Found it and read it. Thanks.

While I agree that the Obama campaign shouldn't be saying they have put it behind them and moved on all the while diseminating (sp?) the text of Olbermann's comment, their releasing the statement that Clinton's remarks were "unfortunate" and "have no place in a campaign" was correct. Hardly an attack that Clinton's people are trying to make it out to be. As a woman, I am not finding Hillary's repeated attempts at "playing the victim" very endearing. She is doing that again here.

Doesn't this seem all too cute to be believed? Say something inflammatory, then oops, sorry never mind. These people get paid to talk, do they not? They must surely know what they are saying, as they say it, at all times. It's rather like an attorney asking the witness an inflammatory question, opposing counsel objects, the judge sustains but the impression is left in the minds of the jury. So between HRC and the right suggesting that Obama's going to get hit if elected there is that seed now planted in the minds of the electorate - "if I vote for Obama he won't see the end of his first term."

ferrofluid:

I think the victim card is about ready for retirement - it's dog eared, crinkled up and soggy with tears.
