Flashback: 2004 Bush Interview Banned In America - An Insight Into Insanity

This 2004 interview should be required viewing for every journalism student. I admit that I had not seen this video until today, but apparently over a million people already have and I hope that millions more will watch it as well. If the American press corps and our corporate media had asked tough questions like this of President Bush and his administration during the lead up to the invasion of Iraq, there isn't a doubt in my mind that public support for it would have plummeted. This interview was done in '04, but was never aired in the U.S., and it's quite possible that it could have affected the outcome of the presidential election that year. Imagine the outcome if a journalist dared to interview John McCain in this way today.
While surfing the net on 'Stumble', I came across an interview with President Bush on Irish television that caused a bit of a storm in 2004. The interview conducted by the tenacious Carol Coleman of Radio Television Ireland was not aired on American television, and Bush's press officers apparently complained vociferously about the rigorous questioning.
The video shows Bush at the absolute peak of his arrogance -- convinced of his own rhetoric about Iraq, flooded with confidence from international subservience to American power, and high off a crushing military victory that reinforced his childish fantasies of American power and preeminence.
The problem was, Coleman was having none of it, and what transpired was a unique insight into the warped brain of the least respected and most hated president in the history of the United States. Read on...

Can you imagine what this woman was thinking after the interview? How could anybody with at least a fifth grade education want this person to be their president? I heard him talking, but he wasn't saying anything.
Arrogance is not the word for this person. This administration did not look at the way the Afgan war bankrupted Russia. They did not look at the way it hung on and on til the Russian's just abandoned it.
He went into these countries and the US has the same fate as Russia. We are in debt, our military force is depleted, we are bankrupt. Everything that happened to Russia. Did the people of this country think bush was a miracle man and that - doing almost the same thing Russia did, we wouldn't suffer the same fate. For that decision alone the whole damn bush administration should be indicted, arrested and found guilty and jailed.

I've had to deal with people who had substance-abuse problems before, and when I first heard Georgie speak way back in 1999-2000, the first thing that came to my mind was 'crack-head', as he seemed to have the same problems piecing coherent sentences together just like many of those crack addicts I'd had run-ins with.
Months before 9/11, I had received one of those 'talking points' emails the Repugs are so fond of excreting, in which I was urged to pray for President Bush, as the job was really breaking him down. At the same time, there were rumors floating around the 'Net that the man was on anti-depressives.
After seeing that interview, all I can say is that a drug test would probably find a veritable pharmacopeia of mood-altering substances floating around in his system for him to be so out-to-sea. And this has had his finger hovering over the nuclear 'football'?
Sounds just like Ross "let me finish" Perot.

I had this interview on my hard drive for over a year, and I never could figure out why no one had talked about it. I guess I should have sent emails out. The interview is quite shocking when you see it compared to interviews done by Fox News or CNN. This is what a journalist should sound like. Unafraid to speak truth to power.

This interview of Bush says more about the intelligence of Americans than it does about Bush. It also says a lot about our elite corporate media as I had never seen this video before.
Being an Irishman myself I remember seeing clips from this interview. Every day in the run up to the 04 election I kept thinking that the penny was going to drop and that Americans would never vote again for such a malignant cancerous growth as Bush is but I was disappointed. I think Carol Coleman came under a lot of pressure from the big wigs in Ireland after that interview. Prime Minister Ahern was a very good pal of Bush and allowed him use Shannon Airport to refuel for flights to iraq, possibly even for some of those rendition flights. The Irish are not blameless when it came to appeasing Bush.

Another Missing Clip ...
At about the same time as this interview, perhaps a day before or after, there was a clip of Bush and other leaders meeting the press outdoors. Bush thought it was only a photo op with EU leaders when a member of the press began asking him a question. Like the adult baby that he is, he turns to the nearest EU head of state and says "Do I have to answer?" or something like that. This is the so called President of the Free World!

I didn't see anything wrong with Bush's behavior in this video. Just more of the same. She was aggresive, which was nice. But he reacted like a pro. He spoke well.

I watched it when it first came out. Tried watching it again but couldn't stand it a second time. What really gets to me is how complicit the so called "journalists" of the major papers and networks have been and still are in letting Bush get away with this crap. I'm not sure what world you're living on, but the last time I checked, many countries are using bullets to try and solve their problems.

Yes, it was weak, but it was so much better than the inanity we've been subjected to from our own craven 'journalists' that it seems like genius in comparison.
I think one of the reasons Bush does the whole "don't interrupt me" routine is that he has to slow the interview down to match his own plodding response times. It also helps to run out the clock so fewer questions are asked. I'm pretty sure he also knows the value of nonplussing the interviewer and interrupting THEIR flow of thought. When you are a plodder barely holding your own in an interview, the only real strategies you have are slowing the pace, shackling your questioner as much as possible, relying on memorized general phrases, and evasion. Most pols are pretty good at evading questions because they can think quickly enough to dance around the issues. Bush isn't adept at the 'baffle 'em with bullshit' technique, so he HAS to be the bully to maintain control. Finesse or intimidation...for Bush, there is no option.

Let me try to explain (without being too condescending and you, in return, won't be an a-hole today).
One site locates this video and adds the BS caption that it was banned.
Another site copies the link from the first, also claiming the video was banned.
The word "banned" gets the attention of the tin-hat crowd and soon every site that claims to be on the cutting edge has a thread about a video that was supposedly banned (when it wasn't) and is supposedly new and hot (when it isn't).
Next thing you know, we're 150 posts down.
Then someone asks a question like yours.
"Nobody cares about the death more than I do. I care a lot" - been awhile since I heard this disingenuous canned spiel - much more chilling now.
I remember seeing this on the 'net a few years ago.

I have actually lived in Ireland for the last two years and feel a little sad I have not seen this interview, great find and great post by the way. On a side note, there is no Radio Television Ireland, it's actually RTÉ which stands for Radio Telefís Éireann
