Andrea Mitchell actually told MSNBC viewers that Barack Obama gave "fake interviews" because he didn't cater to her and the traveling road show during his Iraq/Afghan visit. I understand the need to get footage of Obama is her job, but to say they were phony was like saying his trip was like those fake news reports the administration sold to local networks that were presented as real new stories. I wondered if John McCain handled any of his overseas trips in the same way and guess what?

McCain's visit was not announced and he was believed to have been in the country for several hours before reporters were able to confirm his arrival. It was unclear who he met with and no media opportunities or news conferences were planned.
Let's Ask Andrea a question. Why wasn't John McCain attacked for giving "fake interviews" during this trip up until he held a presser in Jordan?

I don't understand Why Lee Cowan was not allowed to continue to report and why it was switched to Andrea ( Mrs.Greenspan)....she seems bitter, then again Lara Logan and CBS Katie Couric got the Exclusives .....but to call them "fake"??? He did give a press conference today in Jordan- and sadly Andrea was the First reporter to jump out of her seat with 5 questions...I say sadly- because the Reporters Questions were muted....( I am sure that gave her another fit).
( I called cspan- because his answers were really succinct but it was near impossible to tell WHAT the questions were- cspan said there is NO transcript and no audio for them either...if anyone knows otherwise it would be nice to watch his first presser and HEAR all of it...)

Did MSNBC disclose the fact that Andrea Mitchell's husband is a supporter of John McCain? I think full disclosure would be in the best interest of the viewers. That way we would be able to make up our own minds about whether her reporting is biased in any way.

the reason, i assume, obamba didn't give interviews or photo ops while in afghanistan and iraq is because he was on a fact finding mission, not a press junket (compared to mccain who can't go with out the press in tow). this portion of his trip was paid for by taxpayers and he conducted himself as a senator and representative of the us.
now that he is out of the war zone, he is paying for the trip and the press is all over. now it is a political trip to meet foreign leaders and have those photo ops.
There will be a lot of journalists outing themselves before November comes. Lou Dobbs is another "tool". The people need to begin demanding the jobs of these fascist sycophants. Boycott CNN and MSNBC (the 'librul' media, hah!). Boycotting the comedy show called Fox News is a foregone conclusion.

KO has breaking news that Senator Surge got the facts wrong about the history of the surge by claiming the Sunni Awakening was a result of the surge even though the Sunni Awakening started before the surge was publicly discussed. CBS accidentally cut that piece of the interview out of their broadcast, but I wonder how much of the media reports tomorrow that McCain doesn't even know the history of the Surge which he intends to exploit to win this election.

Not that she doesn't have a point... on MSNBC this morning last night, referring to the footage of Obama hitting a basket in front of the troops, and the other trip photos, Andrea Mitchell said something like
Let me just say something about the message management. He didn't have reporters with him, he didn't have a press pool, he didn't do a press conference while he was on the ground either in Afghanistan or Iraq. What you're seeing is not reporters brought in, you're seeing selected pictures taken by the military, questions by the military and what some would call fake interviews because they're not interviews from a journalist.
Interesting point. Andrea's right when she says the military ought not to be in the business of journalism, and we should be skeptical of what we are seeing.
I'm sure this emphasis on skepticism is exactly what she said when reporters were embedded during the war. And when the statue of Saddam came down (the wide shot showing hardly anyone there, but the close-up making it seem like a spontaneous crowd had gathered.)
And this is what she said when McCain walked around the Iraqi market in a flak jacket without the shots of his guard, repeating the point day and night (like now) so that everyone understood it.
I'm almost certain that Andrea warned us to be skeptical when George Bush maneuvered the aircraft carrier for a better backdrop for his Mission Accomplished stunt.
Andrea must have done an in-depth special report on the NY Times story about propaganda, where she did an exclusive expose on Col. Ken Allard and Gen. Mountgomery Meigs, MSNBC analysts implicated in the propaganda scandal. I just can't seem to locate the transcript, but I'm sure she did.
She must have spoken up in a very public way when Phil Donahue's MSNBC show was cancelled for being critical of the war effort.
And this is what she said about the fake turkey, the staged Bush visits, and the Photoshopped cloning of the crowd at a speech at a military base, and...
Oh, wait... it's a different standard now. It's Obama. But what do we know? We're just bloggers.

CFR Couric continuing her attack claimed that Obama's " BIG RALLY in Europe , is off putting to somebody in Ohio " ..We'll Gee Katie , the Freedom Fries crowd might be made a little angry , the crowd you're so concerned with , but what the hell is suppose to do , make an announcement , we have to limit our rallies , due to insecurities of Americans and since when is it horrible that Europeans show over whelming support for a candidate , especially given the fact bUsh destroyed our reputation all of the world . I'm sure it were the other way around , she'd ask McCain " how does it make you feel " to have that much support " .

You wrote on here at one time about setting up an area (not sure if it was on this site or another) that would classify the media talking heads into their respective political leanings. If not before, its pretty apparent now which way Mrs. Greenspan leans. Are you going to bring this info to fruition? It would be nice to have this information, we could all debate it and post links to support the arguments. It would be worthwhile, if nothing else, to put an end to the Liberal Media myth.

A McCain TV ad says Obama "voted against funding our troops." He did, once. Every other time he voted in favor.
Summary
The McCain campaign is running a TV ad attacking Obama with statements that are literally true but paint an incomplete picture.
It says he "voted against funding our troops." He did – exactly once. Obama cast at least 10 votes for war-funding bills before voting against one last year after Bush vetoed a version that contained a date for withdrawal from Iraq.
It says he "hasn't been to Iraq for years." He was headed there at the time the ad was released, however, and had been there in 2006.
It says he "never held a single hearing on Afghanistan." It was the full Senate Foreign Relations Committee, not Obama's subcommittee, that had the hearings on this global hot spot, and Obama attended one of those. Over the same time period, McCain himself attended none of the Afghanistan hearings held by the Armed Services Committee on which he serves.

Remember she refuse to testify at Libby's trial because if NBC found out how deeply involved with these crimes NBC would fire her. Andrea knows when Obama gets in the White House she will be an outsider and another NBC reporter will be an insider.
Andrea was on 'Race for the Whitehouse' this afternoon/evening (I heard the broadcast during the 6pm ET hour - the first hour of the Rachel Maddow show). Andrea was up first in the first segment of the show - "top headlines", or something like that. Her headline was that Obama was being so bold as to act like he was already president, and he even said he would trust his judgement over the judgement of the military leaders in Iraq. In other words, she was shocked that Obama stated, as president, that he would actually make decisions, instead of letting the military call the shots. Imagine that, the Commander in Chief setting military policy.
Remarkable.
Let's ask Andrea. To resign her position from broadcast journalism. Immediately.

I never knew liberals held Andrea Mitchell in such regard. I'm 55, and I never remember her tack or tact to be right-leaning. I guess I've been missing something.
It is curious to me that reporters feel the need to be imbedded in everything, though. I guess it's an occupational hazard, or it's simply a means to foster a sense of worth, tough business that it is.
