ABC13.com:

What did Bush say at Olsen Fundraiser?

The President's folks didn't let the press in, but we got some exclusive video of POTUS talking up a storm at Pete Olson's fundraiser on July 18th. Click and take a look. transcript below the video.

It is uncertain, there’s no question about it.

Wall Street got drunk, it got drunk, (it’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off your tv cameras.) It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up, and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments.

And now we got a housing issue, not in Houston, and evidently, not in Dallas, because Laura was over there trying to buy a house today. (laugher.. Crawford!)

I like Crawford, unfortunately after eight years of asking her to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker. She’ll be deciding, thanks for the suggestion! I suggest you don’t yell it out when she’s here. Later, telling her “Hey honey, we’ve been on government pay now for 14 years... so go slow!"

It’s uh.. caused me to lose my train of thought. Anyway. Read on...

If Wall St. got drunk, George Bush and the GOP were the bartenders. In most states, if a bartender feeds too much alcohol to a customer and it ends in tragedy they can be held liable. Our leadless fearer and his party should be held to the same standards, but we live in Bushworld and it will never happen. So, Pickles was house shopping in Dallas, eh? Interesting...

Update: Did Bush's Drunk remarks cause him to back down from his promised veto of the Housing bill?

Take the AOL Hot Seat Poll:

President Bush dropped his opposition Wednesday to legislation aiming to calm the chaotic housing market despite his objections to a $3.9 billion provision. The House was expected to vote on the bill Wednesday, and it could become law as early as this week.

Under the bill, the government would help struggling homeowners get new, cheaper loans and would be allowed to offer troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a cash infusion.

White House press secretary Dana Perino announced Bush's switch in a telephone conference call with reporters. "We believe this is not the time for a prolonged veto fight but we are confident the president would prevail in one," she said.

If Wall Street got drunk, it's because Bush supplied them with the booze. Most of the banking and investment concerns are from New York State, and while these guys were offering predatory and usurious loan packages, Bush ordered the State of New York not to enforce its consumer protection laws. Those laws, if enforced would have prevented much of the problems we are seeing today. For all we know, he did a similar action against Deleware and other states.

What a scumbag.

"Wall St. got drunk" is not such a big scandalous comment.

What struck me is how he whines about wifey looking for a house. It got a laugh, but how pathetic can you get?

Reading between the lines, I wonder if Bush's investment portfolio has taken a bath. Why else would he give a shit about the financial markets? And why would he joke about not being able to afford a new house? He made $15 million from his share of the Texas Rangers. That was 10 years ago, so he should have at least doubled it by now if the money was invested conservatively. Or maybe Bush has taken a bath along with millions of other investors.

Might be why he talks about the need to "replenish the old coffers" after he leaves office.

Samson-'s picture

Wall Street got drunk, it got drunk, (it’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off your tv cameras.) It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up, and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments.

"how long will it [take to] sober up"...

this is code for 'let the market work this out by themselves'... and it is a bald-faced lie, as we pay for their failure.

the govt has socialized the losses--that we, as taxpayers, have to pay for, despite the majority of us that have NOTHING to do with this travesty. the old cliche 'privatize the profits and socialize the risk' has never been more true.

it is funny to watch the market fundies scamper like roaches when their (il)logic is thrown back in their faces. if they held true to their view that the market is all-knowing and all-powerful, then they would advocate letting bear stearns, freddie/fannie, etc. fail, and suffer the consequence--as they knew the risks, they tried to profit, and they got burnt.

instead, they advocate a govt bailout.

ah, sweet, sweet hypocrisy.

1. If they paid him by the HOUR like MOST government workers, he'd starve. If they were paying him by piece-rate, and the number of successful jobs completed, he'd starve FASTER.

2. I think he was referring to Obama's first Executive Order that no former member of the executive branch can work as a lobbyist for K Street for a period of five years. THAT SUCKS! It means Grover and the oil companies will have to find some OTHER indirect way to pay him off. I believe the arrangement was a 10% kickback from the oil companies that he and Cheney get to split down the middle. That means they were each supposed to get about 300 million in 'consulting fees' from the oil lobby once they've pissed off back to Texas (Bush) and Dubai (Cheney). 'Consulting fees' for K Street lobbyists can easily get that high, but it's going to be awfully difficult to pay them THAT much for a chair at The Heritage Foundation, or speaking tours with the fortune 500.

3. The best Bush youtube video is, and always will be the one where he's at that tuxedo fundraiser saying "Here I am among the haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the ELITE! I call you MY BASE! yuk yuk..." I don't know why those IMBECILES the Democrats didn't just run that video over and over again as a campaign add in 2004. Bush certainly did make Wall Street drunk by supplying the booze and enabling unlimited wealth to his billionaire corporate cronies safeguarding them from any oversight. It's sad how this country has been rewarding wealth more than hard work over the past 8 years. The only way wealth should be rewarded is by saving money and earning interest! There should certainly be more breadth of wealth to hard working American people than that of the depth of wealth to a few billionaire corporate cronies.

The money is probably all tied up in Paraguay... or he's expecting to need an army of lawyers... or mercenaries very soon.

he spoke the truth and everyone gets upset, bush is not the blame for everything, if you notice cramp like this happens, when its election year, clinton, should be blamed for a big mess he left behind, things he kept quiet. Think about it people and wake up, it may be worse with the next president, so be careful

What a bunch of whiners. Yeah, everything is Bush's fault......NOT! Where was Congress in all this mess, sitting around with their thumb up their ***? Where are those legislators responsible for setting banking rules? Were they unconscious? New rules need to be set in place NOW to prevent banks from making no money down mortgages in the future, or once this housing crisis passes they will be at it again. An estimated 70% of subprime mortgages will be UNABLE to be paid back, according to one report I read recently. This is the fault of the banks who were greedy, the borrowers who were stupid, and the congress for being on taxpayer funded junkets and doing nothing while it all happened. Blame Bush if you want but you are only kidding yourself.

Not only was Bush the bartender, He spiked the drinks. It's time to stop Wall Street from running and Ruining this country. To add insult to injury, we have to turn around and bail them out. Obama stands the best chance of taking back the country from corporate America.

tony N's picture

This housing bill will do very little to help the people who are currently in sub-prime mortgages. The large majority of these people got these mortgages with little to no money down and with prices falling have negative equity. In addition, most of people obtained these loans using the no-income or stated income programs which no longer exist unless some one has at least a 75% LTV (25% equity), can verify income, and have at least a 700 credit score. We aren't even close to rock bottom and I know many good people hanging on threads. Another wave of forclosures and bankruptcies are coming. The goverment is totally out of touch with reality. I'm out on the street everyday and have the pulse of the people. Its just propaganda. Wall street who created the secondary market for these products to be sold are the real crooks. They walked away with their million dollar bonus's. The goverment is bailing out multi millionaires. What a joke this country has become. $4.00 plus galloon gas prices and the cost of food is through the roof. I'm done.

For Gods sake, when will you people finally wake up and realize we can't blame every problem on the President, No matter whom it is at the time of the problems. It's just possible in some cases, it may be your own Mother and Fathers, Aunts, Uncles, Friends, All relatives, distant relatives with money that are driving the price of the oil stocks up on speculation. Hell, it may even be some of you with money helping to do it. Every time you turn around someone is blaming the President for all the problems no matter who it may be at the time. Grow up you bunch of whiners and see wher the problem realy lies. It's the people who bu the stocks you idiots.

STEVE BRENNAN - The Republican solution to EVERYTHING is to deregulate, privatize, and to never enforce antitrust laws. Their selling tools to induce voters to go along - "lower taxes" and "less government." The result - graft, fraud, corruption in business. The result for consumers - higher costs for basic services and lost assets with no recourse for recoupment. Lower taxes - a decaying infrastructure. Less government - despite the fact that the population is GROWING - fewer services - including a smaller Department of Immigration for all you "bus them back to Mexico" people.

Tax breaks for the wealthiest....The only thing trickling down is the pain of the GWB policies

Policy of hands off business.....no regulations let the crooks do as they please with no consequences

Disastrous Iraq War....Now after all that spilled blood they want us to leave without as much as a "we appreciate your sacrifice", or "how about a little oil to show our appreciation"

These idiots spent us into a fake recovery, now we only have Billions in debt to show for it

8 years of no growth stock market kills off the hopes of retirement for millions approaching retirement age.....Only government and municipality workers are assured a retirement these days, because the local and federal governments are the fake America where taxes and tax creative tax increases pay for everybody's perks...not real revenue generated from a business model

What A Mess!

Paul @ 13:

If Wall Street got drunk, it's because Bush supplied them with the booze. Most of the banking and investment concerns are from New York State, and while these guys were offering predatory and usurious loan packages, Bush ordered the State of New York not to enforce its consumer protection laws. Those laws, if enforced would have prevented much of the problems we are seeing today. For all we know, he did a similar action against Deleware and other states.

What a scumbag.

Agreed, and a president should NEVER use the word "Fancy" to describe anything unless it's the First Lady's dress.

Don't you realize that most of the investment bankers who structured the financial instruments that brought on the subprime market debacle are DEMOCRATS? Aside from that, markets typically get overheated and then have major corrections, such as the dotcom bubble during the Clinton administration. Were BJ and his Pickle to blame for that?

THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX DRUNKEN ORGY

The Nit Wit Bush for once in his entire life has made one true statement, that under his criminal administration The Military Industrial Complex has been on a drunken orgy of power, greed, and corruption which has never been seen before to this degree in the history of mankind.

This country is Trillions of dollars in debt to the Peoples Republic of Red China, Millions of Americans have lost their homes, joining millions of other Americans filing for bankruptcy protection as the Military Industrial Complex seeks to limit if not eliminate that protection.

This country and its people are paying in both blood and treasure for a Bush War of Choice, and not the choice of the People but of the elected representatives of the People who sold out to the Military Industrial Complex. Paying for Blackwater Inc. Criminal Mercenary’s to establish a British style US Middle East Halliburton Company, making its profits in Blood for Oil!

And, just how long will this Military Industrial Complex Drunken Orgy of Blood for Oil, Imperial Presidential Power with out limit, where the Chief Law Enforcement Office is a Criminal were the Fox is running the Chicken House? As all Drunken Orgies End, when there is nothing left, and someone else has to come in a clean up the mess.

Will the Military Industrial Complex Drunken Orgy come to an end after the Bush Criminal Administration, NO.? There are NO TWO PARTIES IN (D.C.), there is just one the Military Industrial Complex Party with two sides the Democratic and Republican, the Left and Right side of the Military Industrial Complex Party. And, neither of the Prospective IMPERIAL PRESIDENCIAL candidates, has any intention of bringing to justice the criminal Bush or any of his administration. Why would one Imperial Military Industrial Complex President with unlimited power bring to justice another?

Don’t ask for whome the bell tolls, it tolls for us, we sat silent as we became a government of the Military Industrial Complex, by the Military Industrial Complex and for the Military Industrial Complex, with an unlimited and unaccountable Imperial Criminal Presidency.

He is without a doubt the most incompetent president in the history of the United States. America may not have elected him in 2000 (his brother Jeb pulled that one off), but they did in 2004. How he was "re-elected" is beyond me. Congratulations to all you idiots that voted for him. We now have a financial system on the verge of collapse and will be in a depression soon that will make the 1930's look like the good old days. So sick of the wind blowing and it getting blamed on Bush and Republicans....if I recall correctly, the economy started going to pot when the Dems (whiners) took over Congress! How short our memories are! We are all in this mess now and finger pointing no longer works (for those of us who realize we are grownups not on the playground anymore anyway!)...If our government would only grow up and work for the good of the people instead of worrying which party is going to get credit for doing something good and blocking everything, we would all be a lot better off~!

And you know nothing of economics either. Borrowing to spend is no way to balance the books. That's the Thug way, the way Bush and the Thugs have done it since 2000. Bush came into office on a budget surplus, which he's pissed away many times over. Which is why your great grand children will be paying the Chinese 50-60 years from now and beyond.

Bush has been a mediocre president. That being said, his critics alternately try to convince us he's both an evil genius and a stumbling buffoon. Reality check. He's neither. His harshest critics, the snidely elitist extreme left of the Democrat party (ie...DailyKos, moveon.org, etc...), want to impose a largely socialist political agenda on the USA.
