If you've seen the Dennis Kucinich part of this video, start watching at 5:10 or so. A citizen shows Nancy Pelosi a copy of the articles of impeachment at one of her book signings [Know Your Power: A Message to America's Daughters]. I'm raising my daughters to recognize what an appalling, self-interested, complicit, beltway insider you are, Madame Speaker.
Oh. Cindy Sheehan is running against Pelosi and has a book review here. Heh.
So why don't we impeach Pelosi and show her what that impeachment thing is all about?

I think it is absolutely critical that the people of San Francisco turn her out this election. She needs to Go Away. Everyone who is tired of Pelosi not doing her job send Cindy Sheehan a donation. It is the only way to wake Pelosi up. If she sees angry people from all over the country sending money to Cindy's campaign she will pay attention. At least she will know WHY she is replaced.

I know that finding bi-partisan solution for energy independence is important, but frying Bush, Cheney and Rove for their crimes are much more important. That alone would be the most important reason for her to stay in Washington as opposed to going on break. Now she could possibly lose her Senate seat because of it. I've tried my best to like and support Pelosi, but she's practically letting the current administration get way with murder and I refuse to put up with it.

Listen to that part again - he asks if she has a comment about what he handed to her and she - quite naturally - responds "This? I haven't read it yet." Did the guy make it clear he was handing her Kucinich's Articles? Not the way I heard it. How would YOU respond if someone asks you what you think of something right after he hands it to you?

Well, technically you can't impeach Pelosi, but I am fairly certain under the recall rules of California she could be recalled. I guess it depends if elections are still a state governed concept or if the feds took that over too.
But in any event, even if Sheehan wins (and I sincerely hope she does, but unfortunately, don't expect her to since the Democrats will try their best to protect another "Democratic" seat, rather than lose it to an independent), Pelosi will still be Speaker until next January, which would only give a new Speaker a little under 3 weeks to impeach Bush before he pardons himself and his crew.

An interesting fact that gets ignored-

Instead of seeing ALL the dirty laundry aired- Nixon stepped down rather than face impeachment.
Clinton stuck thru his trial because the allegations were petty (if personally embarrassing).
If we impeach BushCo, and the trial actually happens, things would change very quickly.
Bush/Chaney would lose support like rats leaving a sinking ship- and McCain would have to completely revamp his entire platform.
Even if, after impeachment, the Repugs somehow manage to win the election- we'd have a very different kind of Republican in the White House.

However, this particular video clip doesn't say that she hasn't read the articles of impeachment presented to the House. The man handed her a packet of papers and then asked her to comment on it. Her response was to be expected - she hadn't read it so she couldn't comment on it.
The View interview was plenty damning and needs to be played and replayed in every possible venue. We don't need to focus on this kind of questionable statement which can be so easily refuted/explained.

If Ms. Pelosi, who is a talented (if misguided) politician can't hack it, we need someone stronger and better, which probably requires solid experience. Much as I like the concept of citizen-legislators, I fear we aren't at that point yet. The great experiment is over. The executive branch has found enough loopholes to basically take control of the country. When the executive branch controls the justice department, did the founding fathers realize that the executive branch can just ignore any and all legal proceedings against it? Impeachment and consent on appointments is all that's left, and that's basically gone. Basically, the USA is now a benevolent dictatorship with some input from the other branches. It was a good ride.

Further, it is DEAD CLEAR from the audio in the video that Pelosi is referring to the document she was just handed by a stranger at a public event. I doubt very much that she understood that it was *the* articles of impeachment. "I haven't read it yet" is referring to the document she was handed. You're zealousness is causing you to delude yourself and the video posted is an embarrassment.
Btw, I'm a Canadian. I have no vested interest in this--merely someone interested in American politics. Though if I were a USA'n, I absolutely would be a democrat--that said, my views are of the video as someone with nothing to lose. Expulsion, not impeachment
Impeachment can only be applied to federal officers, not legislators. Legislators can only be removed by the voters at election time, or at any time, for misbehavior, by a 2/3 majority of their chamber of the legislature. It's called expulsion.
Yes, the wilful obstruction of a clearly called for impeachment is misbehavior that the House could reasonably view as misconduct meriting expulsion. It looks like most of the commenters to this item would agree with that assesment. The problem is that it would take 2/3 of the House to take this view for an expulsion vote on these grounds to carry. We can't even get a simple majority of this 110th Congress to vote for impeachment, so we are not going to get 2/3 to agree that being against impeachment merits expulsion from the House, not without a massive change of heart that sees most of the Congress voting to expel itself, since most of them share the Speaker's guilt in this matter.
In general, we're unlikely to ever see expulsion used for anything but the "off-duty", coventional criminality we have seen it used for in the past. For 2/3 of either chamber to get to the point of believing that having taken a given political stance (like voting for the war, or blocking impeachment of BushCo, for example) merits expulsion, we would have to be in the middle of, or just experienced, conditions of coup or revolution, in which legislators who took the (now) minority political stance are seen as threats to national security. Not to say that it's impossible for this country to ever reach such a pass, but probably not before the 111th Congress, at any rate.
When, and if, bush, cheney and all the other repukes get charged with WAR CRIMES, pelosi and all the other compicit demoquacks deserve similar charges. The entire Congress is screwed up, and hopefully many will be replaced this November. Not holding my breath...

I am hearing impaired and wear a hearing aid and yet I heard him identify the document as article of impeachment when he handed it to her. So I think you are really reaching to say that she didn't know what it is, and that she is the speaker of the house, and should have made herself aware of the article. It is her job to multi task many things and over seeing crimes of the other branch of party is the main reason that there is a 3 branch system. Saying she doesn't have time to fulfill the role of the third branch is very disturbing and a solid demonstration of dereliction of her duties.
I suspected that she turn a blind eye to Bush crimes, but her appearance on "the view" and this book signing is just overwhelmingly a reflection of a period just before the french revolution. She is an elitist to the corporatist ruling class society.

Since there seems to be some question as to whether or not she is in fact admitting to not having read the articles of impeachment, could we do something else to verify whether or not she's read them? Could someone in her district call up her office? I wouldn't be too surprised if she hasn't read them since it seems like she sticks her fingers in her ears and starts humming to herself whenever someone tries to make a case for impeachment, but I'd like to be sure one way or the other.

Its funny, I keep reading on here and hearing people say that only politicians with experience can be/should be elected, and that people like Sheehan can't be taken seriously.
I will agree that Sheehan can come off as a bit strident, but she is impassioned, and unlike the vast majority of our congress-critters, she actually has principles for which she will fight to defend. The only reason she comes off as "unhinged" is because We the People are so used to bland politicians who only care about getting re-elected that we forgot what true Statesmen looked/sounded like.
So if you want experience, well, you have plenty of experience in people like:
Feinstein, Pelosi, Hoyer, Reid, Conyers, Kennedy, and at least 95% of the rest of the House and Senate.

I heard her speak recently and was quite impressed with her- and I certainly agree with her politics.

I have the greatest respect for Speaker Pelosi. Personally I do not think impeachment should have been taken off the table but her reasons for doing so are solid. She knew the GOP would hide behind an effort to impeach the President and that would garner all the attention. Also, it would have been very unlikely to succeed because of the numbers of GOP members in the senate.

I've been wondering why there hasn't been a 'recall Pelosi' movement in California. It's hard to believe there isn't support for it, but then you saw the smattering of applause Joy Behar's questioning got; is that all Americans can muster? I'm surprised the audience didn't rush the stage and try to attack Pelosi. But that's me; we see what's going on and care about it, but I don't see people in the streets yet. What will it take?

On some level I truly feel sorry for Sheehan, who has suffered one of the worst losses a human being can experience, but during that time of extreme vulnerability was horribly exploited instead of being helped through it.
Sheehan is going through it publicly for all to see, but there are so many in the midst of the pain/confusion of having experienced a great loss being taken advantage of. It's very frustrating to watch people you know and love get sucked into a cult mindset instead of seeking the help they need to work through their grief in a healthy way.

As others have said, it's pretty clear that when she said "I haven't read it yet", she was referring to what she was just handed - as in "Of course, I haven't read it yet, you just gave it to me". I doubt she was even paying attention to half the things the guy said. It's ridiculous to put this up as though it's proof that she hasn't read the articles of impeachment. If she had known what she was referring to, do you think she would admit that she hadn't read them?
