Senator Akaka slams Cokie Roberts
On ABC's THIS WEEK, Cokie said this about Obama going to Hawaii:
Download | Play
Download | Play (h/t Heather)
Roberts: …going off this week I know his grandmother lives in Hawaii and I know Hawaii is a state, but it has the look of him going off to some sort of foreign, exotic place. He should be at Myrtle Beach and if he’s going to take a vacation at this time. I just think this is not the time to do that.
Responding to Cokie Roberts ridiculous statements about Obama's vacation to the state of Hawaii--here's a little message for her via email from Senator Akaka's office:
"Saying our 50th state is somehow "foreign," does a great disservice to the hard working, patriotic Americans who call Hawaii home. For months people have been asking me, 'when is Sen. Obama going to come home?' I'm so glad he found time to visit his sister and his grandmother, show his daughters more of his home state, and relax a little. Hawaii is a great U.S. destination, just ask the 5.5 million Americans who visited last year for business and pleasure.
I wonder how many times Cokie has been there herself?

applaud....maybe she'll a little more careful with her agenda......i mean comments
Of course it's foreign...the natives are not white Christians
of course I'm being sarcastic in my above comment...
I don't think Cokie even knows what E-mail is.
Cokie, tool of the Plutocracy, is the same one that thinks that Washington is working just fine.
Look here for more evidence that Cokie Roberts is an enemy of working men and women world wide.
Well, poor Cokie, she is now a certified member of the STUPID CLUB that is our MSM...these over paid opiners are so in love with the sound of their own voices that they think they are actual oracles!!!
It seems to me that Hawaii is a very popular vacation destination for West Coasters, but seems very far away for East Coasters. But East Coasters would say that a quick trip to the Bahamas is a common thing (taking away the idea that it is indeed foreign) and West Coasters would think it's as far away as the other side of the world. It seems to depend on where you live that makes the destination more or less exotic - I've lived on both coasts and can see her mistake. She talks without thinking.
Stupid is the new oxygen here in god's country. Can we get even more stupid? Yes, I believe we can.
Once again, Cokie Roberts mistakes trots out a personal opinion and attributes it to ordinary Americans. As if she hangs out and converses with ordinary Americans.
A little known fact about Ms. Roberts: in her first name the o is correctly pronounced oo as in zoo.
Wow- so only whitebread northeastern vacation spots are really "American"?
Elitist much?
Pechorin @ 8:
We're already to far gone. Beyond Stupid.
Cokie is kind of an exotic name isn't it? She didn't get that nic name from any habits did she?
This is off topic and a little petty.
If you go to Charlie Gibson's Wikipedia
entry, all criticism of his moderating the April 2008 Democratic debate has been scrubbed. There used to be an entire paragraph on the debate and the criticism that ensued.
I wish someone would insert
the subject back into the entry.
Kansaskowboy @ 13:
Shes straight. Always has been. NPR was nothing but a vehicle for her to get well known and well off.
Janet @ 14:
Don't worry Pelosi and Michelle are the opening act in Denver.

here's cookie on NPR yesterday short sound bite..ya hate to be hypersensitive about every sound bite but where does this stuff come from...it must be an elitist thing

Dancer @ 6:
I hate when commentors call a VERY intelligent and credentialed person stupid. As evil as Cokie is she isn't stupid.
Cokie shoiuld be sent somewhere that IS foreign and exotic. Somalia maybe?
Leadership @ 18, good one! That's funny as hell!
We can never forget the Day of Infamy, December 7, 1941, when the Japanese bombed Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach? Thats a perfect place for any black man in America to go to, South Carolina home of the stars and bars for ever. Cokie just regurgetates the verbal vomit of the repub party without thinking about how stupid it sounds.
I spent six months there once. The place is a virtual paradise. While I was there, the foreign band The Doobie Brothers had a reunion concert. The exotic NFL had its pro bowl.
Good times....
Both sides have their merits. What Cokie is saying isn't all that cooky, you know. :) McCain is already able to paint Obama as "different" somehow (yes different from a lot of the ignorant white republican racist trash in this country), so I think there is something to be said of Obama trying harder to reach out to the people that have a hard time voting for a black man. And that could mean seeming more "normal", like vacationing in some place like South Carolina or something. So I think there is merit to what Cokie is saying. That said, the guy should be able to go wherever the hell he wants to on vacation...but remember, this is an election year, so everything the candidates do makes headlines...
Still waiting for someone to tell me that John McCain is the kind of guy I want to have a beer with...
Come on, Tweety, where's the love?
sorry having trouble today fighting the good fight anyways here is cookie on NPR yesterday..being an elitist
http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/48592-cokie-roberts-smears-barack-obama-again
More of the same lame bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How dare Sen. Obama visit his family while on vacation! That's so anti-"family values"!
dwalden @ 24, Sen Obama's sister and grandmother don't live in South Carolina. Kind of hard to visit them there when they're in Hawaii. And besides that Myrtle Beach is a bit of a tourist trap shit hole. Been there several times to visit family and I'll avoid going again. Lukily the family I had there got damn sick of the place too.

Do they speak english in Hawaii? Do you need a passport.
-Redneck trailer trash Republican voter.
Cupid stunt.
Leadership @ 18:
Let's not venture into "good" and "evil" territory. Conservatives do that when pushing wars and such.
Fascism goes better with Cokie...
Re #14 Janet: You mean that you don't care for a clean and well-scrubbed Wikipedia entry? Beware of what you read on the Internet, it may be as wrong as the lying corporate imperial media...
Perhaps "Crackie" Roberts "misremembered" that Hawaii is our 50th state? Just after Alaska and just before Iraq.
Just wonderin'...
"I know Hawaii is a state"
good cokie!!! you have been studying!
now, what is this? *shows picture of a tree*
just questions once c127 @ 30:
Sarcasm isn't an insult, pointing it out isn't an apology. Although, it is a bit cowardly:P
Reminds me of a Dan Akroyd Jane curtin skit from SNL cokie you ignorant slut.
beancounter @ 27:
beancounter @ 59:
The second listed is (cut and pasted?) from the McCain/Plagiarism thread. You gonna write that in every comments section? How ironic.
Cokie just repeats what the ABC exec with his hand in her back says.....
kit wilson @ 32:
Actually not all of them. I spent a few days there escorting my elderly in-laws for a funeral and hanging out with their friends, I found it very difficult to follow along. They speak pidgeon and it's a crazy mixture of languages. But it's fun to listen to especially with all these folks in their 80's that have a great cadence to their speech. After we got back my MIL left me a voicemail about my FIL - 'Amalink da bugga no wanna go golf'
Cuck Fokie.
-GSD
Okay, give her a break, she did admit that she knew that Hawaii was a state. I guess it's the exotic state. Since Obama has been called exotic, where else would she expect him to go? I bet he is over there eating arugula right this very minute. When he finishes his salad he's probably going to brush up on being an elitist.
To most people in the US being as smart as Sen. Obama is, seems strange and exotic.
Again, your hairstyle is dated (and was always ugly) and thats an terrible color for you.
I don't mean to be critical of your choices, but then again you are publicly-funded via NPR. So, for your annual review, stop saying stupid stuff about Obams's visit to one of the 50 United States. Did she bring up McCains visit to Columbia?
Sadly, in the view of the Village, Akaka is a nobody. Is he on the talking head shows on Sunday morning TV? Does he have a syndicated newspaper column? Does Charlie Gibson consult him as an Expert on anything? Of course not! He's obviously not a real American - I mean, just look at him! And that funny name! How is Joe Lunchpail expected to take someone like Senator Akaka seriously? He represents a place that's barely in the U.S.!
That lady (Cokie) and some of the others like her as well, they are so, how would one say...they have become so anti-human, so life negating, that when you look at them kind of closely they start to transmogrify, like those demon women in that movie with Keanu Reeves (haha a Hawiian) and Pacino. You know, where Keanu is a lawyer the devil wants.
Remember that, those women occasionally would morph into their demon form? Well that's what Cokie is like. No it's true, Take a closer look. Man, she's like that, all fucked up and shit. Wait a minute take a look at that Laura lady....wow, see what I mean.
Or have these neocons finally drove me batshit crazy....
Cokie is such an obvious TOOL of the plutocracy. She has an extrememly comfortable life and wants to "keep it as comfortable as possible" which translates to "make and keep as much wealth as she can by leaching off others hard work". How did she end up on NPR? Oh, NPR stands for National Plutocracy Radio. Silly me. I always thought it stood for National Public Radio. I stand corrected.
Has the Panama Canal Zone ever been a state, Cokie?
Amalink @ 7:
You are absolutely right about the West Coast / East Coast thing, but I don't forgive her as easily as you seem to: she's far too old and highly paid to excuse such ignorance. If she didn't know that a good portion of the country considers Myrtle Beach more exotic than Oahu: well she sure as hell should have. You say 'she talks without thinking' and you are right again, but I don't think ABC pays her to talk mindlessly. I'm a West Coaster and I'm sick and tired of the pundit class that claims to talk for America. These people are, almost without exception, white, Christian or Jewish, rich or super-rich, 50+ years old, right of center to fascist, East Coasters or Southerners who've spent their entire adult lives in Washington or New York. They all went to the same schools. Their kids all go to the same schools. They all attend the same handful of churches. They go to the same parties, eat the same foods, listen to the same music and read the same magazines and newspapers. They represent an infinitely small American subculture that is as alien to their fellow citizens as can be imagined.
From another Senator of Hawaii.. "There exists a shadowy government with its own Air Force, its own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself." ~ Senator Daniel K. Inouye at the Iran Contra Hearings (1987)
I'd like to know where Cokie vacationed last. Five bucks says it was a destination outside the US and she's never been to Myrtle Beach.
Cokie must be expecting another turrist attack. Otherwise, why would she be wearing that helmet?
I serve my tour of duty in the Army in Hawaii (Tripler Army Medical Center). It was my first home away from home and if I could afford it I would visit as often as possible. I salute all Hawaiian Americans.
The only thing foreign thing to note is these neocon tools that need to learn respect. Where the hell are they from.
Shout out to all locals of the state of Hawaii and Hawaii supporters in the mainland, if that wrinkled old hag ever tries to enter the wonderous state of Hawaii, DON'T let her. She is officially banned.
Yeah, good job, Cokie. Hit the guy for going HOME for vacation. Either someone paid you to say this, or you are just incredibly dumb.
leftminded @ 33:
well put.
Ah yes, Myrtle Beach....Cracker capitol of the world.
Kansaskowboy @ 13:
Actually her given name was "Kooky", and she chanced it, tho she is still a stupid
woman who is soooo typical of all MSM personalities.
Cokie Roberts is just another of the many windbags who pontificate about the issues of the day, and as usual, when they open their mouths, they show just how touch they are with the real world. But then again, so does 95% of inside the beltway pundits. Wonder if she, in all her majesty, has ever visited Hawaii?
My God, she's an idiot.
Her Dad was a good Democrat. He would roll over in his grave if he heard her comment on Obama, if he had one. Boggs disappeared in a plane crash over Alaska and was never found.
Damn we Americans love inflicting pain on each other.
Leadership @ 18:
Maybe she's not stupid, but it certainly was a stupid comment to say what she did.
RancidVenison @ 38:
If the shoe fits....
Leadership @ 18:
Touche, but you must admit that what she said was a very dumb thing to say, especially with her background.
This is a very good youtube about what other Republicans say about John McCain. Send this to anyone you know that is tired of the war in Iraq yet still thinks about voting for McCain.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdJUCU1UH2w
sturg111 @ 61:
She's just old, and boring.
L.A. Confidential @ 65:
Unfulfilled is probably a better nomenclature.
The sad thing is that the people who believe the GOP hate machine don't have computers or listen to anything but the fat trio of unpopular boys that were outcasts in high school. Rush, Sean and Billo probably never were invited to any of the birthday parties growing up so now they have their stage. They will show the world their power. Ugly is as ugly does and this season of politics is approaching the ugliest. We are worried about where Obama vacations, whether John is done in politics. Hey MSM it didn't keep McBush for running for president in his future. Oh I forgot we don't have time to look at all sides. Obama thought that voters would appreciate a run for the presidency on issues and the important needs of the American public and McBush showed him that old politics are the only way to go. You can't imagine how many of us out in the USA will cover Obama's back all the way to the White House.
joeedugan @ 48:
Oh no Joe I don't forgive her in the slightest. In fact I fault her for being even more incredibly stupid. She should be smart enough to overcome the East/West prejudices and be able to see the country as a whole instead of the sum of its coasts. Gosh I am actually surprised she can't seem to construct a thought before it tumbles out of her mouth. Cupid stunt indeed.
Oh and 45 / bearcat: The movie was 'Devil's Advocate'
j. wegener @ 67:
Hey but we're the beacon of unregulated free markets to the woild!
What exactly is it that makes Hawaii exotic? Is it the palm trees, lots of states have palm trees. Is it the beaches, hell we have beaches in Chicago and Cleveland. High rise condos on the waterfront, have you been to Miami. Speak a language other than English, agian, have you been to Miami. They dont have winter, I have been snow sking on the big island. Could it be the distance from the 48, hey Alaska is not what I would call next door. So what is it about Hawaii that makes it so exotic, could it be that it is one of the most liberal states in the union, is that what makes Cokie thinks that it is sooooooo exotic, I betcha that is what she finds so exotic about Hawaii, well that and the fact that the Mormans own most of the islands.
jeff @ 70:
No exotic to her is sitting in a poolside lounger wearing a hat while sipping an umbrella drink.
Clearly time for the USA to split up; it's obviously too big and too weird for some people to get their minds around.
I mean, no, seriously. When I saw these people I couldn't believe they were from the same country as me. Even the same planet is being generous.
Terrible @29, totally understand what you're saying, I'm just saying that everything the candidates do can be used as propaganda for or against them. A vacation in Hawaii probably does sound exotic to Joe Sixpack living in the South. And it's clear that there are a lot of people, especially in Southern states, that are very hesitant to vote for a black man (understatement - some simply will not). Obama should be reaching out to people in those areas. He's got the educated vote; that's clear. Unfortunately it's not enough. He needs more of the everday white southern vote (as sad as that may be).
Okay okay lets stop humiliating the poor woman. Unless she enjoys it thats another issue.
Central Scrutinizer @ 72:
Good idea maybe NATO can provide protection for the new provinces.
I guess Cokie forgot that she herself wrote a book titled, “Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation”
Maybe she also forgot that Obama's grandmother, whom he went to Hawaii to visit, is the woman who raised Senator Obama.
Leadership @ 18:
That is a stupid thing to say and you're stupid for saying it.
What makes Hawaii exotic? Well look at where you are and how much it costs to get there. From DC, NY or Boston it's a fortune and you might as well go to China. But from Seattle, San Diego, or San Fransisco it's a couple hundred. It has nothing to do with the destination itself but how far away it is from you. Very mundane.
Alaska isn't "exotic," but only on account of oil.
Don't make me think of Cookie in a grass skirt.
Hey, I have palm trees in my back yard and I have a pool. We have all sorts of tropical plants and orchids out there. Some times we even sip cocktails by the pool. I'm a long way from the coast of California. Damn, who knew? I may be exotic.
What a Kook. I've been to Hawaii (in particular, the island of Kauai) a number of times for business and vacation. One of the first things I learned, while on a business trip, is that the locals do NOT like it when you ask them something like, "have you ever been to the states?" Yeah, Kookie does mention that Hawaii is a "state," but implying Obama is going somewhere "foreign" is just ignorant crap! You know some idiots out there will twist this to say that Obama doesn't like to vacation in the U.S. Idiots. All of them.
She is such an elitist asshole.
She's just another neo-con creep who has nothing of value to add to the discussion. cokie like so many others is a deviant.
pissed off patricia @ 81:
There are palm trees in Chicago... during the summer. You know... Illinois. So, both his "homes" have palm trees.
WHile she said that I was actually IN Myrtle Beach at my sister in laws Condo and I can tell you it was to damn hot for anyone to be there. DAMN she is stupid, something that should be said And I didnt notice anyone say is that Cokie (despite her agenda) ALWAYS gets twitchy when talk of travel to HAWAII or ALASKA come up, because of what happened to her dad. Ive watched her for twenty years back to the brinkley days and its a subliminal thing, but in a way she was worried for OBAMA, either that or she is a stupid bitch for begrudging letting OBAMA visit his granny (who cannot fly by the way).
General Jack D. Ripper @ 82:
All in all, last I checked this is still a free country and one can vacation where ever the hell one damn pleases.
The elites are reducing the vacation of us poor working folk to a couple of weeks a year, but now it seems we have to also be told where we can vacation.
RancidVenison @ 85:
Plus I understand while he has been in exotic Hawaii, he has been playing that elitist game, golf. Has the guy no shame?
bearcat @ 45:
You could be right on both counts.
Central Scrutinizer @ 72:
Actually, I have maintained for a long time... secession from the bible belt makes actual business sense.
Us godless liburl coastal states seem to be paying the pious Southerners for the privilege of being demonized.
Pechorin @ 8:
America excels at stupid. Interestingly, America excels at innovation and change too. It's an odd mix. Take the above add, where it calls for repowering America, now that gas is $5 a gallon. Americans can and will do it. Too bad the dummies always seem to win influence (with fear mongering-- I think it dampens America's former greatness, and historic awe-inspiring verve.)
Maybe Cokie believes some states are more American than others. Interesting can of worms. Kind of takes the "UNITED" out of USA, doesn't it?
I completely forgot about that nutty turd until she floated up to the top with her stupidity. Re-flush!
I sent a letter to NPR management yesterday demanding that they fire her. I have cancelled my membership in our local NPR radio affiliate and will not give them another dollar until she's gone. I hope other NPR listeners will do the same. Just say "NO" to NPR and local Public Radio until they get rid of her.
j. wegener @ 67:
I always see them this way too. Probably got beat up a lot and stuffed into garbage cans in high school.
Brad @ 79:
Alaska isn't "exotic" because it's populated by conservative whites - you know- the 'Real Americans'. People just like Cokie.
Hawaii, on the other hand, is mostly populated by darker skinned people with funny shaped eyes, who vote for - horrors - liberals.
Kansaskowboy @ 13:
From her Wikipedia entry (seriously):
"Born: Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs"
Oh sure, that's normal
Two words for Cokie:
PEARL HARBOR
Is that American enough for you?
Jim Faith @ 50:
Yes, but Cokie isn't trying to get elected in a country filled with complete idiots, many of whom probably don't even know that Hawaii is a state. Obviously, Myrtle Beach would only have been appropriate if Obama had stayed in a Motel 6 and taken in a NASCAR event at some point.
Does this kind of commentary (Cokie) reflect how stupid we've become or is it a contributing cause to that stupidity?
It always strikes me as amazing that people get paid to say things as stupid as what Roberts said. And although she's been doing it for decades, this was one of her all-time greats.
Similarly, I can't believe that people actually watch the Sunday news shows. What could anyone possible expect to learn from them?
pissed off patricia @ 88:
Better question is: do the courses on which he plays? I don't want any of those gosh-darn darkies playing near me.
StirFry @ 92:
Good one StirFry: so true.
Here's another case in the last week of a typical Washington member of the press, of senior age, busting on Obama for doing what normal people do. Oh he can't be a regular guy with family! No! He's screwing his whole deal up by visitng family! And in Hawaii! WTF kind of reasoning is this? Obama can't win with the press. They seethe for ways to tarnish his image. It's so bad he can't even visit a state he spent signifisant time in growing up, a state that's PART OF THE COUNTRY, ONE THAT'S FULL OF POTENTIAL CONSTITUENTS SHOULD HE BECOME PRESIDENT, and ONE WHERE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY LIVE.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of the can't-see-the-forest-for-the-trees insanity that clouds the Washington press corps.
George Will did something similar last week sitting in front of TV cameras, mouthing his bowtie ass off about how elitist Obama was. Nevermind the fact that Will is given all this deference in the press for being th conservative's conservative, and never being questioned on anything. No, when a Democrat is successful and popular, he didn't earn it. When a Republican does it, he's being cordial, friendly and compassionate.
These people need to be sat in a room to watch video of themselves mouthing so much stupidity on national television.
Clearly, Cokie Roberts has never been to Myrtle Beach.
Her misgivings that Myrtle Beach is somehow the vacation destination of "non-elitist" Americans is ridiculous.
Myrtle Beach exists only in the summer. In the winter, it is filled to capacity with America's impoverished class, many on welfare, some of the more desperate of our citizens. The ones that the Repubs like to blame for every single problem we have.
Let's not forget those non-elitist golfers who go there to play golf, because as far as I can tell, that is all there is to Myrtle Beach except laying elbow to elbow on a beach with other non-active sunbathers.
Most of the properties there are owned by outsiders who earn income by renting to vacationers during the summer. The schools are terrible. There are few jobs outside of low-paying ones.
The state of Hawaii, on the other hand, is a vibrant, booming, healthy place.
So Cokie, how is it that you somehow came to the conclusion that a place as sad as Myrtle Beach is, unless you judge it on the perception of people who spend a week or two there during the summer, somehow "non-elitist" or more American than Hawaii?! Please fabricate another non-issue to punditize to death to somehow convince another one or two ignoramuses that Obama is not as American as those sunburned Americans whose work lives are so unsatisfying, a week in a place like Myrtle Beach is wonderful in comparison.
Yeah for the small Dan. Unfortunately he is Big Dans' hand puppet. The two dans play this cynical game of splitting their votes in the senate. Big Dan still supports Ted Stevens and voted for drilling in ANWAR. Also can you think of a state that should be the obvious leader in alternative energy other than Hawaii? Where are the two Dans on this issue? AWOL I am philosophically a Democrat but I held my nose and voted for Linda Lingle the Rep. governor because the Democratic crowd here is just spinning their wheels in incumbent grease. Dan Akaka was singled out as the least affective senator and is always reelected without spending
very much $$ at all.
I use to think Cokie was so hot, but I could never love someone that ignorant. (sigh)
"What did Migs say."
"Huh?"
"Multiple Migs...He hissed something at you. What was that?"
"I can smell your stupidity from here!"
She must think she's a Horatio guarding the Potomac bridges.
I'm not sure Akaka's point is that well taken. In an episode of the Simpson's, for example, #49 and #50 were once characterized as, "Alaska and Hawaii- the Freak States". Doesn't all humor contain at least a grain of truth? And consider the source. What type of man is so ashamed of his heritage that he legally changes his last name? Or weren't you aware that the senator's birth name was Kahikimi Akaka Dudledoo?
Long Tooth @ 106:

jebus.loves.me @ 2:

It's not like Hawaii plays any role in defending the west coast of the USA, or patrolling the Pacific Ocean, now is it? Who needs a strategic naval defense there?
Long Tooth @ 106:
Akaka was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Annie Kahoa and Kahikina Akaka so excuse me if I don't believe you.
Frenchy @ 93:
For some reason, I'm finding some of these comments very funny..........and I haven't had a good "belly" (don't care for the word, but it's necessary here) laugh in the last eight years!!!!
I admire your zest, and I can't stand cokie and her snobby, elitist attitude, but she's not going to get shit canned over this. She already looks and sounds like an asshat, that's her karma. She has to live with herself.......and you know she takes her role in life waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.
Peace to all Peeps(as they say in that far off, exotic netherland of Hawaii.)
Cokie Roberts has quit shaving her ass again.
Roberts looks like a Geraldine Ferraro type Obama hater
Shaaaaaame on you, Barack Obama.
I mean, Hawaii?
Hawaii???
Come on! I doubt it's even a REAL place! Undoubtedly, it's some make-believe one like Oz or Candyland or Intercourse, PA.
And the word "Hawaii" itself is so strange and foreign sounding. I doubt my Western tongue is built to pronounce such a punishing word. Why, it's practically a tongue-twister! To say it correctly would require surgery, at the very least.
Extensive tongue-altering surgery.
And, frankly, who has time for that?
someguy @ 112:
Someguy: I was going for a laugh I obviously didn't get. "Akaka Dudledoo". Get it? Cock-a-doodle-doo?
Move on people, nothing to see here. @ 43:
Dated is right. Apparently she's been wearing it since the early 70's. Observe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C3bHVefvTo
As someone who lives in Hawaii, I take great offense to these comments. Does anyone know if any of McCain's 9 homes are in Hawaii? Anyone wanna ask that rhetorical question out loud on the airwaves? I bet Middle America would be shocked to hear how many homes Mr. Everyman has(also check and see how many were bought AFTER he was married to his second wife).
It is nice to see a presidential candidate coming to the state of Hawaii to campaign a little. We RARELY get any attention because usually everything is decided by the time our votes are counted. Interesting aside--last time I saw a candidate here was in 2004 when a local paper posted a poll that said the Republicans were close behind. So Dick Cheney came out here--get this--on Halloween for the Republican Convention. He arrived at 11pm and was gone shortly thereafter. I greeted, along with many others, with appropriate signage. Pretty funny that he would arrive during the witching hour and then be gone shortly thereafter--on Halloween.
goodgirlroxie @ 102:
Never been to Myrtle Beach, but based on your description, I think cokie should donate at least a million to the school system there. This gesture should be followed by a huge fundraiser with about a thousand of her beltway buddies...........hell, invite all of K Street.........come on, Coke, we dare ya to go all altruistic on us...........about time the working class gets a little blowback from the blowers.
Has either Cokie Roberts, ABC or NPR addressed this yet? My husband e-mailed a protest to ABC and I'm sure they're being inundated. ABC issued some statement that jokes about McCain's age are dirty politics. I think his age and physical and mental capacity are of legitimate concern, but anything goes with them on Obama.
Long Tooth @ 117:
Thats a good joke.
I use to have a great sense of humor.
Pardon me while I go try to find it.
Roberts has this Remarkable habbit of repeating Republican talking points!
She is one Pathetic Hack. Who would put this clueless wonder on the air? Oh
im sorry ABC. Never mind i guess i forgot to lower my expectations.
I haven't read this yet.Everybody is being too ice.Cokie Roberts is an Asshole who can't find anything better to slam Obama about
I'm sure she remembers when Hawaii became the 51st state. I guess visiting your Grandmother and sister is a crime.
He won't have an opportunity to do that again with his family for along time so she's got to throw some total erroneous bullshit into the mix
Peace, Jason
Jason Miles @ 124:
FYI-It was an inside joke about the 51st state just so there aren't 20 other comments here about it being the 50th state
Cokie Roberts is an embarrassment. I'm sick of her idiotic recitations of the GOP talking point of the day. The woman shouldn't be on the air - she has nothing original or interesting to say. What a dolt.
Cokie (aka the Bimbo ) always says very stupid and partisan comments on George's show. But what do you expect, she is the ultimate Repubican Hack!!
She is not even smart enough to appreciate that Hawaii is our 50th State and a "Jewel" of our country.
SHAME ON ABC.....but, look at how Charlie and George handled the Democrat debates earlier this year.....that might say it all!!
Cokie is off her Thyroid medication again.
woid @ 21:
Now this is clever. and pretty damn funny too.
Nice hair helmet Cokie.
Book her, Danno!
Look at the bags under her eyes! These people stay up all night thinking about things to say to make them stand out among a sea of commentators. I personally stopped watching all cable news and "commentary" except for Olbermann, Jon Stewart and -- when I want to feel young -- Larry King.
Koo Koo Roberts maybe??? JD
Cokie - just shut the hell up!
What an idiot. Can everyone just send her a message about her complete stupidity.
m Says: Nice hair helmet Cokie.
She got it from Tom Daschle

Someone once referred to the Cokie as:
"That irrepressible purveyor of conventional wisdom..."
Cokie sounded like such a nag. She was trying to paint Obama as an elitist of whatever.
Hawaii is one of the best vacation spots in the US. So beautiful, and so much to do.
My only beef is that the Portugeuse got the sausage monopoly. Kinda of bland, for me.
Leadership @ 18:
Only when she opens her mouth. If you think her comment is intelligent...
Tied In Who's Polls
Cokie Roberts' comments Barack Obama is tied with John McCain sparked a ongoing concern for bias polling. I have made several comments asserting bias in Gallup and Rasmussen polls. Here is a chance to make another. First off, why does so many media commentators use Gallup and Rasmussen polls to make their "its a close race" comments? Take another look at the history of polling for president this year; this time exclude Gallup and Rasmussen polls.
What you will discover is without Gallup and Rasmussen low numbers for Barack Obama, the polling picture would look different, by at least four points. I have followed this polling bias with much anger. The MSM uses Gallup and Rasmussen polls as if they were made for them. Upon closer inspection, you can clearly see Gallup and Rasmussen daily tracking polls are being used as a valve. When other polls release polls with a 5 point or better lead for Obama, Gallup and Rasmussen adjust to what numbers will keep McCain close to Obama. RealClearPolitics' assemblage of polls document a everyday bias for John McCain. As I comment, todays polling display represent an attempt to wash out higher numbers, so Gallup and Rasmussen polls will have a stronger effect.
There is support for my assertion Gallup and Rasmussen polls are bias. Because every commentator using the noted polls are conservative in delivery of news, It is a hard thing to counter. However, someone can say to them: THERE ARE MORE POLLS OUT THERE THEN JUST GALLUP AND RASMUSSEN.

Hawaii should stop paying federal taxes. We'll see how long the IRS think it's a "non-state" then.
Cokie's racism is like Dr Strangelove's right arm. She can't restrain it. Hawaii isn't really "American" like South Carolina. Let's see, Hawaii didn't start the greatest act of mass treason in the history of the Republic. Nor has a sitting Senator from Hawaii ever led armed insurrection or made death threats against two Presidents (as Pitchfork Tillman did). So loyalty isn't the issue. Why does Cokie the Cracker think South Carolina is more "American" than Hawaii?
A rhetorical question, of course but I'll answer anyway: Because (a) Hawaii is largely non-white and (b) because whites in the Aloha State aren't as racist and vicious and hell bent on putting non-whites "in their place".
Fuck Cokie "The Cracker" Roberts!
Just another pathetically sad example of a non credible elderly MSM person whose generation not only dropped the ball in race relations and inclusion, they burned it. Now this tired old lady thinks she can rejuvenate the hatred from the best years of her life....LOL
Maybe she is just jealous. Let's send her to the Bahamas where you need a passport now. Then she could experience a real foreign, albeit fun vacay!

"Cokie" Roberts is an insipid air-head inside the "bubble of the Beltway." Meaning she knows jack-shit about real-life (and that her haircuts are more expensive than John Edwards'). Her father was a Louisiana Democrat notorious for being a bagman for the oil industry. Her brother, a highly-paid lobbyist in Washington, worked for "Lieberman for President."
Enough said. These people cannot speak for "real America." Take them off TV. They are rich, lying scum.
