Nancy Pelosi looks like she spent more time on her appearance and outfit then she has on the investigation into why the hell we went to war and what we need to do about it. Wake up. Impeach these treasonous criminals.

we can win by not lousing it up, stay loose, stay positive.

All these questions are about division and Hillary Clinton. Who's feeding these reporters these questions, if anyone? And I can bet that they ask the Republicans about America and the best path for America, while they ask the Democrats about trivial issues that do nothing but divide and spur on controversy. Two different standards. I hope Obama can see that and crush it. Peace.

You can also chat about the convention on Skype with Blue Gal and others:

The Change Obama promises, that Pelosi trumpets, must start with Obama engineering Pelosi'a resignation as Speaker of the House.

Impeachment, FISA, an empty House Chamber being used by the Republicans to embarass the Democratic Party are Pelosi's legacy. If we want Change, start with Pelosi.

Then, I'll shop up on November 4th.

Na Gun Hapn.

"Impeachment is off the table"...Pelosi,
"Its a foolish idea." -Reid
"I believe if we began impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunction." -Obama.

Unless you're talking about Pelosi, Reid and Obama...then you maybe got something there.

NBC reports, "Daddy Yankee supports McCain!"

Who the F is Daddy Yankee?

Chuck Todd admits that the "angry Hillary supporter" meme is probably overblown...as Hillary basically tells McCain STFU.

Hillary's going to whup some Republican ass in her speech this week. This should be fun. In the NBC clip, she looked like she meant business.

Yep, I can't stand even listening to her now. She is a symbol of failure.

"Outside her Bel-Air home, Nancy Reagan stood arm in arm with John McCain and offered a significant -- but less than exuberant -- endorsement.

'Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided, and then we endorsed,' the Republican matriarch said in March. 'Well, obviously this is the nominee of the party.' They were the only words she would speak during the five-minute photo op."

Just gotta love it. Reagan waited until to see what idiot they picked, then endorsed him. Its that "the party thing". Didn't matter who it was. great bumper sticker "Our candidate, no matter how bad"

Fucking idiots.

Pelosi was a very poor opener, but the size of the place almost defies any control yet.

I came in here to say the same thing. All Clinton all the time. PUMA PUMA Clinton Clinton. These questions are pathetic. Will they be asking at the republican convention why McMedia can't close the deal?
Earlier Chuck Todd kinda slammed Tweety for his focus on PUMA but apparently it didn't sink in.

Yes, unfortunately. Dems have brought enough knives to enough gunfights. In the battle for the morons who still can't decide between candidates as wildly different as McCain and Obama, we need all the 'zazz we can get. Everyone halfway intelligent has figured this out one way or the other by now. We've gotta fight for the ones who aren't halfway intelligent.

When Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the house I was happy. I was happy because I saw this changing for the better in America. In my lifetime a woman was elected speaker. Now I feel nothing but shame because she has been an utter failure as speaker. I feel bad that young women have such a pathetic figure as a role model. Look girls, "here's the woman who thought it was OK for the man responsible for a million deaths based on lies should walk around free."

mweholt's picture

Rachel Maddow just reported a few minutes ago that the moron Clinton delegate who just made the McCain ad was asked at a news conference today: "You say you are a pro-choice Democrat. How can you then support McCain?"

Doh! It turns out she thought McCain was pro-choice based on a 1999 quote from him.

No one knows McCain

The New Republic, in an editor's note now online, writes that "a refresher lesson" is needed for "our brothers and sisters in political journalism."

While the press has devoted countless stories to dissecting Obama's basketball game, all the cocktail parties he ever graced in Hyde Park, and every vote he cast as a state senator, large tracts of McCain's record have been untouched by reporters. There have been stunningly few stories revisiting the wild vicissitudes of McCain's recent political career. Less than five years ago, McCain was basically spearheading the Democratic agenda in the Senate--from taxes to government reform--and then, in a flash, he abandoned most of these progressive positions when he decided to run for the Republican nomination in 2008. What does that say about the man? Most voters don't know, because most voters haven't read about this period in the newspaper or heard about it on television. And there are plenty of other parts of the McCain record that reporters have skated past on their way to discovering Obama's long-lost half-brother or some other triviality.

Well, why I'm voting for Nader. This is as disturbing as the bullshit gets. Before you go off all half-cocked on me-I live in a sure thing Democratic state. No matter who I vote for, Obama will take the electoral votes. And sadly, that's all that counts in this country.

Sen. Kennedy's speech was rather good.

However, Maria Schwartzenegger being there was rather distasteful. Since she stood by the "governor" and his connections with Ken Lay without speaking out during the recall in California, she should be considered a traitor. The "first lady" of California also watched her husband mess with the Unions and the budget without saying a word. She should hide her face in shame.

Other than that it was nice to see Caroline Kennedy speaking again.

Support for Each Candidate Holds Steady

By Dan Balz and Jon Cohen
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, August 24, 2008; Page A01

Excerpt:

Heading into two critical weeks of the campaign -- the four-day Democratic National Convention is set to open here on Monday, followed by the Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities next week -- Obama maintains a narrow, six-point edge over McCain among registered voters. Among those most likely to vote, 49 percent back Obama and 45 percent back McCain.

The poll was completed just before Obama announced the selection of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware as his vice presidential running mate.

i know that they woulda attacked anyone put on the ticket...but this is like shooting ducks in a barrell

as for the hillary supporters...get a frackin grip....your candidate ran a campaign based on everything being over as of super tuesday...when it wasnt, she and the campaign imploded....cant run a campaign, cant run a country

Biden's gonna be the smiling pit bull, Uncle Joe. And he's a concession to traditional Democratic voters. The talking heads like him more than they like McCain, so maybe the MSM will stop handling McPOW with kid gloves. And Biden doesn't come across as a phony at all- to me at least. I have a reservation or two, but I like the pick.

ok....wait till they play his tirade from that nh diner back in 88

the one where he fibs about his education

el druggo, hannity, lufa boy and all the fringe nuts will be running it ad infinitum

that and the plagiarism stuff....

i dont care that it was 20 years ago...shoot, even i remember those incidents without being reminded

so he can play pit bull....so could sebilious and/or webb

and look, picking him caused those pumaites to go apeshit...wtf is wrong with those people? dems for mccain??? who is really behind puma...where is the money coming from?

i saw one statement from a black pumaite, where she said, "obama is an african american, i am a black american with slave roots....he doesnt know me"... and some old white woman does???

I am second in line for a First Lady debate.

Michelle Obama hit it out of the park tonight. And if she does have to deal with Cindy McCain in such a capacity, Cindy's mincemeat.

Robo-Cindy has had too many different types of pharmaceuticals pumped in her veins for too long over the years.

All I could think as I watched the entire Obama family tonight, is that America is at a fork in the road between Obama and McCain. And personally, I don't think I could stand four more years of Republican rule with their plastic, barbie wives sitting eeriely in the background.

Even with that being said, I am still quite saddened that they had to put Pelosi, and both the Clintons on the list to speak. You'd think with the further all three caused within the last couple of years, that they would be asked to step aside and let some others speak. :(

there's a weird flashing "alert" on faux news

A strong, compassionate, intelligent black woman is speaking right now to America. It's a real emergency to the bitters.

Thank goodness. It was about time for her to put her two cents in. And I am glad that she did. Mrs. Obama was excellent tonight.

Texas Democrat's picture

While tonight could be seen as some as sort of tame, it had to happen. Both Obamas have been assaulted for months by the right wingers as exotic and out of touch with the American people. So while tonight seemed kinda softball to us who want the Dems to go after McCain hardcore, it was needed to get across to middle America that the Obamas are regular folks. A real life Cosby show :).

Texas Democrat's picture

While the first night needed to be like it was, they better effing take the gloves off tomorrow and get out the brass knuckles. While it's important our guy looks good, it's equally important to take McCain down a few notches. Several in fact. No mercy tomorrow Dems, show no mercy.

Cynics, beware! Even my hubbie teared up at Michelle Obama's speech tonight.

Our country has been through so much over the past 7 years. If nothing else, new people with a really forward-thinking vision deserve a shot at making things better for the future. Otherwise, it's like there's no such thing as taking turns or fair play anymore. More years of the same old despair equals a dictatorship at this point.

let the good times roll!

There are over over 150 "parties" planned during the democratic convention sponsored by (gasp) every special interest from corporations to lobbyists to trade associations.

Sunlight Foundation is tracking them for us. Sometimes they get in to check out who's there. Sometimes they get banned.

Wow. The Dems are wallowing in corporate money (ATT gave "millions and millions...FISA thank you $$) and slopping at the Washington lobby's trough just like the old white oligarchs of the evil GOP???

Impossible. Wasn't Obama going to "change the way things are done in Washington"?

Well ok...to be fair, it is Denver.

I think the Teddy Piece so far has been okay... I honestly think the sailing part should have been dropped. I know I don't relate sailing to the middle class.

SAILING IS VERY POPULAR in the coastal middle class and even among the poor. Not everyone has a family schooner, but there are quite a few people who love to fish or to just float out to sea for a while.

Jon @ 84:

I am sorry but tonights convention was lame. People are not going to be passionate about Obama watching a bunch of people dance in the aisles.

The democrats need to be much much more negative and go after Mccain and the last 8 years of the Bush administration.

If they don't aggressively go after the republican's policies they will lose.

They don't always show up to fight at the convention. You and I both know what's going to go down at the RNC convention. It'll be 90% Obama and 10% McCain. I'm just really hoping that the rest of the convention is even 50% scorched earth on McCain and 50% building Obama up.

Ozymandias @ 113:

Michelle's speech was one of the best speeches I have ever heard. She's going to be an amazing first lady.

I watched the tape-delayed version on PBS. Only David Brooks dissed her speech, saying she didn't give enough personal information about Barack. All three presidential historians--Michael Beschloss and two others who are regularly on--singled that comment (and Brooks) out and said it was one of the best "spouse's" speeches they had ever heard.

As for attacking McCain, come on, folks. They can't do that yet. If they did, the press would be all over them for going negative so quickly. That ain't the family's job, anyway...unless you're the Sopranos. The press has been saying for weeks, "Michelle can't appear angry. She has to be hopeful and connect with 'real Americans.'" (I assume they mean "white" Americans.) "And the Obamas have to be gracious to the Clintons." (Maybe they'll all get together for a pool party and barbecue???)

Michelle Obama was great tonight. She hit every biographical note, every working-class theme, every "give-credit-where-credit's-due" platitude, and she still sounded both gracious and sincere. My mother and wife watched with me, and both thought she connected heavily with women in the arena. As one of the historians on PBS said, "Obama's daughters were worth half a million votes apiece."

Let Biden go after McCain. The first night is always biography.

You watch. Hillary's gonna kick ass tomorrow. She's a great speaker and has a sharp tongue to match. Having the right-wing slander machine use her name and words to mess with her supporters was a big tactical mistake. She'll come out pleasant, but she'll end up swinging for the bleachers.

Why isn't this blog covering more of the DNC protests? The protests are far more significant than the actual convention since, inside, it's just corporate politics as usual...

Democracy Now, for example, not only covered the protests, but included a segment on the AT&T-hosted party for the Democrats who granted retroactive immunity to the telecom giant. Come on, C&L, stop being such liberals, and start being progressives.
