WATB: McCain cancels Larry King appearance

..all because he doesn't like how CNN's Campbell Brown treated his PR monkey Tucker Bounds Monday night. If you can't stand up to Dan Senor's wife, Senator, how can we trust you to stand up to the terrorists?

icon Download | play icon Download | play

It's amazing that John McCain was so offended by a journalist actually doing her job. All Campbell Brown did was press Tucker to name one important decision Sarah Palin made as "commander-in-chief" of the Alaska National Guard. It's not surprising that he was hard-pressed to come up with one considering the Alaska National Guard General has confirmed that she has nothing to do with national defense activities. Strike 18 for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Talk about a guy who could not talk his way out of a wet paper bag. A true sign of McCain's incompetence is that this moron still has a job today. You can't just make things up on the air and retain your credibility.

on the contrary, journalists actually doing their job would constitute the gravest threat to McCain and the GOP as a whole. I understand his reaction. He needs them to play dumb.

The Republicans have had 8 years of a compliant press - and it's not just Fox that has reported as fact RNC and WH press releases - so it must come as a shock when a reporter actually asks a question.

What I want to know is, will Larry King tell his audience that McCain cancelled to punish CNN for not doing his (McCain's) bidding.

IMO, most CNN types, Brown included, still carry water for the Republicans. Brown just had a brain cramp and thought she was talking to a Democrat.

My friends, I'm watching the RNC Convention! It's sad. They opened with videos of the world trade center crashing on a huge video screen then it turns into a US Soldier in Iraq, then it turns into a huge flag. Didn't we already try this "Team" thing when Gov. Bush didn't have any experience? We got Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Powell, how did that turn out? My studly congresswoman Heather Wilson claimed McCain has the experience and judgement to be POTUS. Then why did he support the territorial pissings in Iraq? Where is McCain's adopted Child, I never see it? Isn't Iraq wasteful spending? Borrow and Spend, Borrow and Spend. How come Peter Doocy son of Steve Doocy at the Fox Nothing Channel, isn't serving his country? Palin's daughter getting knocked up wouldn't be a big deal, if her mother didn't not believe in birth control. McCain/Palin are coming to Albuquerque, I think I might blow up some rubbers. These Republicans don't have much to go on. I feel sort of bad, not.

Seems clear at this point that there are some powerful, deep-pocketed interests that do not want McCain to win this election. The Campbell Brown interview was stunning. No anchor on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC or CBS has done that in a very long time, since 9/11 anyway. I've been seeing a lot of very surprising coverage lately, I don't think they're grown a spine, I think the oppressive hand of upper mgmt. has been lifted. They are now doing their jobs. What excuse is McCain going to use for cancelling all the rest of his interviews from now until election?

I have a hunch we will not have debates this year. McCain is not letting Palin speak to the media unless they give her a pass which means, I think, they would want the questions well in advance. McCain himself is pissed off at Tom Brokaw and threatening to call that debate off. The Republicans know that Obama and Biden are going to whup McCain and Palin in the debates. Ergo, I think McCain is setting a scenario where he will pull out. Maybe it's even Rove's idea. I think the public will not stand for it though.

AndrewK's picture

Talk about misstep for the McCain campaign. First he puts the on air slaughtering of his spokesman into a second new cycle, and second he preempts and opportunity to reshape the message on an even bigger platform. The talking points in this segment look about as naked and futile as they can possibly get.

Off the top of my head:

For statewide emergencies the Governor of the state would deploy the State’s National Guard for the emergency and the state would be responsible for supplies and equipment.

If the National Guard is used for federal service the U.S. Gvt. can and would appropriate equipment from the state and supplement it as needed (in theory).

Tucker Bonds was trying to blend the two roles and make it sound as if Palin had been in charge of both.

I think the main question to be answered is; while she has served as Gov. of AK, has there been a need to call out the State guard?

Isn't she aware that professional journalism consists of asking a question, letting the person lie, dissemble, go off on some bizarre tangent, or say whatever else makes him or her happy? While the person is responding, the journalist nods like some mindless bobblehead sitting in the back window of a car, and then moves on to a different question where the whole process is repeated. That, way the MSM can do it's job as conduits for Republican Talking Points.

Her behavior was reprehensible. She should be fired.

Get a grip.........she revealed this phoney/RISKY pick
you better evaluate Hannity....for being fired.

I believe this was sarcasm.

i apologize.........i'm alittle bent on this palin pick

What excuse is McCain going to use for cancelling all the rest of his interviews from now until election?

I have a hunch we will not have debates this year. McCain is not letting Palin speak to the media unless they give her a pass which means, I think, they would want the questions well in advance. McCain himself is pissed off at Tom Brokaw and threatening to call that debate off. The Republicans know that Obama and Biden are going to whup McCain and Palin in the debates. Ergo, I think McCain is setting a scenario where he will pull out. Maybe it's even Rove's idea. I think the public will not stand for it though.

It's already been said that Gov. Palin runs press conferences with a team of advisers that will step in and answer the tough questions for her. That's not going to happen in the debates.

Contrast this decision to snub a previously agreed to interview with Barack Obama's decision to agree to an interview with Bill O'Reilly, a man who has made it his personal mission to smear Mrs. Obama, their children, and Barack.

I find it really shocking that John McCain doesn't have the courage to be asked tough but fair questions, while Barack has the courage to be asked tough and unfair questions.

Who is ready to protect America?

I can see it now. America on the brink of WWIII, McCain is to sit down with the Russian leader to avert nuclear annihilation of planet Earth but then he learns the Russians asked what exactly has Sara Palin done as VP and McCain cancels, the world is destroyed, the end.

LOL. I liked that one.

The events of the last few days have left the Republicans and their supporters nearly speechless. The ones that do manage to speak are so dumbfounded by the lies they are telling that even they can't believe what they're saying!

It's quite interesting to watch, and McCain doing this just makes it that much more amusing.

Their platform is in shambles, and they are scrambling to get a consistent, coherent message. I hope Obama and Biden hit 'em hard while they are down.

Good for Cambell! Every journalist should objectify who they are interviewing or why have them on? McCain's team sure is teaching us a lesson, I mean, We're a nation of "Whiners" so why can't he be one too?

I agree. How do we contact CNN to let them know how much respect Campbell Brown for asking a legitimate question and justing wanting an answer?

What a wuss McBush is. They pick someone with a limited resume', on short notice, and they are pissed that they can't answer a question about specifics. Brown was much better than John Roberts, who this morning allowed Mary Matalin to lie, unchallenged. Matalin said that "Pallin had been to Iraq as many times as Obama has." She's never been to Iraq, Kuwait once, yes, but not Iraq. Roberts said nothing.

Post American @ 43:

No wonder they didn't have Giuliani speak. The bullshit must have already reached saturation point.

The RNC would have been better served it they had the puppets from the 'Team America' movie speak.

I should also point out that '911' happened on Dubya Bush's watch... even though he was warned by the Clintons.

The GOP if full of incompetent, thieving, lying, murderous, retards.

What's more, the NeoCons aren't ashamed of it.

A laughable attempt to restore discipline to the press corps. Eat the McRib sauce or be banished into the outer darkness. How will Larry cope? I suspect with a one pulse laugh. Hah.

Blitzer: "CNN doesn't believe Campbell's interview was over the line."

Lucky thing they had Campbell instead of Blitzer interviewing him. Blitzer, after all, was the guy who asked Dick Cheney if he wanted to answer the wingnuts' attacks on his own lesbian daughter, and then shit his pants when Cheney said his question was "out of line."

Basically, ANY question that would expose obvious Republican hypocrisy is "over the line." Hence, the Republican credo: When you can't answer questions, fein outrage and indignity. "Why does Campbell Brown hate the Alaska National Guard?"

Putin and Jintao Love Sarah Palin's picture

Republicans have created the most dangerous security threat to USA perhaps ever. There can be no doubt that China and Neo-soviets are redrawing the global equilibrium based on the idiocy of the republican party - a brazen and arrogant display of sheer idiocy. The choice of Palin represents yet another highly destabilizing opportunity for world chaos.

America is collapsing under the weight of its stupid. Republicans are like the obnoxious neighbor that throws empties on your lawn every weekend. Picking Palin is like hanging a kick-me sign on the back of America. Unbelievable.

Too good. And too bad. But I doubt that Larry would have really questioned him about Palin or anything else. I will repeat, these people are not conservatives--they are radical traitors to America, to our constitution, to our way of life. But too many Democrats think they are the flip side of democracy, the loyal opposition. They are not loyal. Sarah Palin and her husband (a "former" member) are sympathetic to the Alaska Independent Party, whose former leader has denounced America and its flag.

Suggest everyone go to:
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/aip_founder_prof...
for a taste of the secessionist fringe in Alaska.

I also heard today on the radio that when Palin was mayor of Wasilla, she tried to have books removed from the library. Don't know which books, but I can only imagine.
