I watched only a few minutes of The View today, but here's an interesting tidbit that TP captured:
On ABC's The View today, host Joy Behar complained to John McCain that "you used to be more of the Maverick, then you sort of turned." "In what way?" McCain asked. "You became much more lockstep, I think, with your party, with George Bush's policies," Behar answered, adding, "I don't see the old John McCain. ... I understand why - you want to get elected." McCain issued this challenge in his defense:
I've been through this litany before, where I say, "ok, what specific area have I quote changed?" Nobody can name it. ... I am the same person and I have the same principles.
Here at C&L we'll take that challenge and it only took a few minutes to prove him wrong.

Joy was fantastic on "Larry King Live" the other night- surprised the hell out of me.
His strategy on The View was to filibuster questions that he didn't want to answer. Why didn't he ever filibuster bad Republican policies? (you know, the ones he didn't like when he was being such a maverick...)
There seemed to have been a significant and vocal group in the audience supporting McCain. Were they members of his campaign?

I posted this on Huffington. Here is why I think he denied Palin took any earmarks. He forgot. My theory is the melanoma has spread to his brain and he does not have long to live. He wants to go out as President, something he has wanted a long, long time. He wants to leave a legacy, be in the history books. So he made a deal with the Right to accept Palin as his running mate and dump Lieberman to get elected. He has been making a LOT of mistakes lately. He looks so frail and sounds weak. My doctor told me this morning (a former Republican delegate for our state in 2000 and 2004) that he noticed it too so he is voting for Obama! He said he wears too much make up so it looks like he is covering up more outbreaks and it looks like it has spread to him. He said it often spreads very fast to the brain, lungs and spine. Brain cancer is fatal most times and often they go very fast.

They should make a commercial out of that question and the listed results as fast as possible and run it every hour on every channel right up until the day AFTER the election.
Someone (perhaps a sharp attorney or law student even) should figure out a way to sue McCain/Palin on their lies. There must be some way to publicly call these lying "people" out on their lies in a very public, embarrassing manner. I'm just surprised that the blogosphere didn't catch McCain's other gaffes in this interview. First, he was asked about separation of church and state and started mumbling about the "Founding Fathers," using ABRAHAM LINCOLN as an example.... (about a 100 years too late McSame!). Picking Palin as a VP was done after Obama picked his VP - wanna know why? If it was Hillary, you can bet your last fucking dollar that Palin wouldn't even have come up. It really says a lot about the sad state of the media in this country when the major news shows serve up almost nothing in the way of useful information, and the only time McCain gets hit with any sort of hard-ball questions is when he appears on "The View". If the media did its job, he would get pelted with the type of questions every day.
Flip-flopping is not necessarily a bad thing, if it is the result of refining a stance, after you have received new information or feed back that you accept as proof that what you were doing didn't work. It is bad, if it is the principal means by which you go about the business of opportunistic pandering, in order to satisfy unhealthy ambitions. In McCain's mind, he isn't a flip-flopper. But, he can only pull that stunt of mental gymnastics by telling himself that he's a man who has always remained true to his principles. The only problem with that , however, is that when you look under the hood to see the principle engine that drives McCain, you find that the engine is missing. There's nothing there, and in its place is just a little wind-up rubber band, the expedient of the moment that he deploys to get him whatever it is that he wants. McCain's no man of principle. Just a shabby flim-flam artist.

I knew this was going to happen. For better or worse Americans have a highly developed sense of fairness. We could post every lie that John McCain has ever told on every front door in the country and Obama would still lose because it would be percieved as bias. Americans interpret the media as having a bias in favor of Obama and that is basically what is killing him right now.
I also predicted that his European trip would hurt him here and if you take a look at his polling numbers they have been on the decline since he went there.
