Obama Waffles: Get 'em while they're hot!

Video is comedy gold from The Brooklyn Comedy Company (mature language).  But what a sad state of affairs:

Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed "offensive material." The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

Julia has the full run down...

Yep, one of the minds which brought you Obama waffles is teaching our children about God for Rupert Murdoch...

Fucking Frist. and philly is winning

Only a group of Total Bigots would think that was not a Racist or Bigoted Box Cover.

That comedian was good.

Not Chris Rock good but good.

I think that the Obama Monkey was a little bit past the Obama Waffles.

JimboSlice @ 4:

I think that the Obama Monkey was a little bit past the Obama Waffles.

That's true. In fact I would like to get a box of Obama Waffles because after he wins the election they are going to be worth a pretty penny. Probably worth more than Lehman Brothers. Plus I like waffles.

You can buy them online here: http://www.obamawaffles.com/

What would happen if the Dems offered McCain Flip-Flop Flap Jacks?

Chris Rock has issues. He can be funny but the humor gets lost in the continuous stream of epithets and 'toxic shame'.

After both hearing McCain's statement on the "soundness" of US economic fundamentals and witnessing the fiction like nature of his campaign's anti-Obama criticisms I think it appropriate to combine his McEconomics with his McCriticisms into one term McComics.

Please somebody get in touch with Patrice O'Neil & put him in the same room with the assholes who made this product,...

I heard even Lou Dobbs bought a box. Is it true or a rumor? If it's true, CNN should be worried because that kind of stuff leaks out. Remember 'Muckaca'?

Doesn't someone have a picture of Lou Dobbs with a box he had purchased at the "values" voter forum? I wrote Dobbs a letter today telling him he needs to apologize to Obama on his show

"They cut off sales because they didn't realize the waffles contained 'offensive material'".

Isn't that what they always say when they know damned well their stunt is offensive and they get caught?

It's going to be a very long 54 days.... ((rolls eyes and spits))

P.D. @ 10:

Lou probably ate a whole case, boxes and all, before he knew what he had.

Ahhhhhhh, "Values Voters", my very favorite bigots.
Now THAT'S racism you can believe in!

In fighting back, (not to this nonsense) the ad Obama needs to run in addition to all the appeals to reason currently running over McCain's money connections, mumbling stupidities, and other doddering missteps, is this:

A simple appeal to the emotions of the turtle brains in the public who won't face their own stupid voting records and what they have wrought.

All you need is an ad featuring all the Bushes they supported and voted for, presented at their dumbest. Bush brushing off his duties and saying "Now watch this drive." A similar dumbass moment from the record of Dad. And then the same from the latest Bush: McCain at his most disconnected. There's lots to choose from. Voice-over walks them through the connections between how fucked the nation is and what these baffoons said with cameras rolling.

They don't really reason their way through anything. Show them their own choice in baffoonery. Show them that they're making the same dumbass choice in McCain. Make them feel a pang of doubt. Implicate them. We only need to peel off a very small percentage. Remind these few how stupid their choices have been. Bring on the stupid.

Probably used as a ruse to transport meth from Alaska down to the RNC.

I'm curious why it wasn't called the "Family" Values Voter Summit.

Lou Dobbs with the seller of this product. Note he's holding it also.

Bogie@18, Is is true? Or was the photo doctored? My God, what the Hell is going on? This should be on every MSM channel. WTF?

I wrote to the makers of Aunt Jamima pancake mix and told them I would never buy any of their products if they left this apparent "rip off" product out there without suing the maker's balls off. Crickets chirping.

I liked the idea for "Hanoi Hilton Pajamas" I read the other day.

facts about the creators of this racist trype

both are youth pastors...thats right, they work with kids and teach them how to hate darkie through christ

real fact why the values forum took down the booth...and athiest advised them that the depiction of obama was racist....it took a god hater to explain to these christo fascists that maybe the box is offensive

america wants to keep these fucks in power???

The repubs must be getting desperate if they have to stoop this low. This is vile, ugly and racist. But, then again, so are they.

I feel like I'm stepping into a bear trap intentionally, but I don't have a problem with it. When I first heard about it I thought the box was showing Barack dressed like Aunt Jemima.

I could not begin to imagine the humiliation of being subordinated to the ranks of lesser human being in this country by the very institutions that were designed to uphold the "one man, indivisible..." banner that our nation was founded under. It's an incredibly powerful and saddening experience to peer at the photographs that catalog a darker time in our collective history, when African-Americans and other Minorities were forced to live a life altered from that which our Constitution "officially" guaranteed all of us.

I can only surmise that epigenetic changes both physiological and especially psychological have resulted from the terrible sufferings wrought by racism today, but especially the sorrow of slavery and entrenched racism in our society in yesteryears.

I guess I shouldn't be amazed at how reluctant people are today at accepting an accomplished African-American man, a person part of the minority as our next president, but I still am. It hurts my sense of decency. Whoever thinks that Barack Obama is out to curtail your freedom is being dupped by the very same group of people that said in 2000 that they were going to reach across the isle and govern from the center. And of course, torture (or *enhanced interrogation*) is an acceptable means of getting at the terrorists and thwarting their very evil plans, even though you cannot cite a single concrete example. As has been made evidently clear, the only consequence of using such vile and racist techniques to drum up support for your white candidate is to expose your group for the ignorant and deceptive organization that it has always remained.

I will admit that the boxes were removed from sale, but they should have never come to be sold. More importantly, I know my initial characterization doesn't apply to all people involved in the group itself, but one has to wonder... When Fox News and other more reputable news organizations bring up the idea that some people agree, who are these shadowy people that agree with something that is completely farcical to begin with ? You are supposed to be journalists, and even if you are only commentators, at least have the decency to enlighten your audience as to your biases.

sean hannity, bill o'reilly, michael savage, jim scarborough, etc c'mon, you're really not fooling anyone. stop protecting those that have now ceased protecting your rights !

With love and racial understanding,
I say it's time to give all minorities a chance at running the country,
especially if they have worked hard, overcome the hurdles that our racist society has thrown at them, and thrived to make something of their lives and those around them.
I dream of a land where our jobs are challenging and well-paying,
I dream of America regaining its foothold in the foreign policy arena
and I reserve the right at having a dream that will actually see the sun rise on it, as opposed to seeing the sun set on its existence as I carry my ruins into the ground.

Why can't November get here any faster? I think I'm going bat-shit. The polls are too close. American people, on the most part, are stupid. We have had our banks fail, two wars, healthcare crisis, And yet, every morning I hear nut-jobs singing the praises of McCain/Palin. I think I"ll turn to drinking. The caricature of Obama on the front of the box is not even the worst of it - the picture on the side shows Obama in a fucking TURBAN saying the waffles are best when eaten facing east! So not only do these dumb-shits come off as racist, they're also Muslim haters! I also emailed the company and complained - not using vile language, but in a calm way. You can too - their email is customerservice@obamawaffles.com . Please, let these racist turds know exactly how racist they really are (since they don't seem to get it) and how you're passing this on to all your friends.

BTW, I'm not sure if Lou Dobbs actually bought this shit, but he did say his wife would think it was hilarious. Gosh I wish I was married to this guy!

If he's unfortunate enough to win, Obama will get to preside over bread lines.

Doubt there'll be any waffles. Look for runs on the banks anyday now.

Adios.

I'm waiting for McCain to show up in black face and start singing Mammy and yucking it up with Phil Gramm and Lindsay and the whole pack of lying hyenas.

The last 3 election cycles in Canada have had at least 1 offencive ad come out of the conservative campaign. They always blame it on a staffer too. What's with Conservatives and their man hit in groin with football sense of humour?

Not being Muslim, maybe I shouldn't comment, here, but...

WTF business is it of a couple of Christocrackers to try to "convert" Muslims to their "god" as it were, and make a buck off it as well? What's next, "Mohammed's Matzo"?

Personally, I'm getting REAL sick of these shitheads with their smug attitudes and racist beliefs. Sure, they may be fervent, but they clearly are phony.

Some days I think I'd rather see these guys all at a Klan rally instead. At least we could then all feel free to openly mock them. Maybe set up contests for who can pluck the most dunce caps off the little cowards...

how 'bout a nice fresh box of constitusheo's? go ahead, eat 'em for breakfast! good with holy water!

I'd say it's much deeper than political partisanship. It's a confrontational style of mockery that seems to be drawn from the concepts of rugged individualism. That John Wayne character the conquers by killing, knocking out, befriending, or completely humiliating. Over the last 10 or 20 years they've been on the path of defining "liberal" as enemy instead of a person with an idealogical difference.

I watched this video this morning while chowing down on a breakfast of McCain Flakes. Fortified with nuts and grubs .

The intentions behind the Waffles is obviously racist but it makes me wonder: what's going to happen in the future if Obama wins? I mean think about; political cartoonists make their livings off satirizing politicians and therefore charicatures of Obama will be all over the place. Is everyone going to call them racist, wimply because they're exaggerating Obama's features in the same way they've always done to every politician ever?

Now understand what I'm saying. The turban thing is waaaaaaaaaaay over the line here. But the box front charicature doesn't strike me as inherently racist in it's tone, it's just not a ver good likeness of Obama (needs more ears and less jaw). Shall I now be accused of racism, simply because I don't denouce a cartoon drawing of a not-white man?

Boundries, people. They do exist.

Lyon@66

Only you can answer the question you pose. I can recall growing up right here in the middle of the southwest and not being concerned about it because as children, I think we all felt we were children. With a little more wordly experiences, we start to separate others out by their outward experiences.

As I started to wrap up my naval career, I was more anti-government and less convinced the U.S. way of life was all hunkey-doory. Seeing different cultures, hearing about the Ohio massacres of students, dealing with a military hierarchy that was essentially a mirror image of the larger class society that had been hidden by the myth that anyone can do well if they work at it, those all worked to change my world views. Learning about the concept of manifest destiny, the occupation of the americas, the wiping out of the indigenous peoples, the made me understand why I felt like people were looking right through me as if I didn't exist when it became clear that I was walking among whites.

I learned to harbor racist sentiments but as a defensive reaction. Thankfully, my mind, education and innate abilities often placed me in positions above most of those around me, including whites. When I deal individuals, and I have dealt with street people to judges and doctors, they know they are dealing with someone who will not tolerate racism nor prejudice.

Because I am honest about my feelings to myself, I give everyone I meet the opportunity to prove me wrong.

The waffle thing is pure racism, through and through. Everything on the box has to be taken in context. I think you need more introspection before you attempt to say you are not racist.

Con permiso, pues, la mayoria de los Americanos estan disconectando del resto del mundo, no pasan tiempo a viajar en otros parte de nuestra tierra, entonces, no pueden realmente descubrir que estan los filamentos humanos que nos unicen.

It's with great joy that I've also seen many parts of the world and learned the culture and language of that nook of the planet. However, if we are unable to expand our minds not only through education, but through the transformative powers that a voyage through different places brings, we are doomed to remain comfortable sending others to discover what we could have seen.

I only wish that globalization brings us closer together, but with someone like Bush in power, it will be mostly fear and repression that takes place. I want to learn, I don't want to be treated like an idiot. The specters drafted in the rhetoric are meant for specific purposes, who about pushing the population to new heights, instead of accepting old and tired status quos.

chicano2nd @ 67:

The waffle thing is pure racism, through and through. Everything on the box has to be taken in context. I think you need more introspection before you attempt to say you are not racist.

I never said "I'm not a racist", merely that I would be tarred with the epithet "racist" for not denouncing the drawing (and bang on cue, I am). If you go back and read what I said, you'll discover that in the context of the box as a whole I agree, it was racist in it's intent. And just for the record, I feel that racism is actually inherent to humans and that it is something we must UNlearn as we mature. However, that's not the issue I'm raising.

I don't believe in political correctness, I believe in political accuracy (ie tell it like it is). Now, as a former art student with several years of life drawing under his belt I have perhaps a slightly more advanced understanding than most people that superficial racial differences DO indeed exist. That's not a racist observation, it's truth. People of different races don't just seem different, they ARE different, right down to the bone structure. Racism would be to assign meaning to those differences, something I don't do.

People of African descent do tend to have larger lips, stronger brows, broader noses and wider jaws than their asian and caucasian counter-parts. Again, that's not my opnion, it's a fact, feel free to examine any art or medical texts you please. Obama, as a man of mixed heritage has some of those features. A charicaturist strives for likeness. To charicature Obama correctly he MUST exaggerate his features (just as he must exaggerate McCain's beady eyes and swollen cheek). To draw a picture of Obama with excessively large lips, nose and brows would indeed be racist. To simply draw a cartoon of Barack is not.

My point is this: The waffles box as a whole is racist in intent, that's indisputable. But if the liberal left is going to cry "racism" over every Obama charicature then THAT is indefensible. It's as bad as the right calling every attempt to find out ANYTHING of substance regarding Palin "sexist". You can only cry wolf so many times...

Of course this is some racist shit, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just stupid. Now, all I need is for some white person to explain to me, a black woman just why this isn't racist and I am overreacting and everything will be A-Okay. By the way, to Lyon, Obama's features are more white than black. Also, a lot of Asian people do indeed have flatter noses than white people. Whatever makes you feel better though.

You can only cry wolf so many times...

while i have never studied art, i am an avid fan of comic books and cartooning

and yes, caricatures do exaggerate features...however look at their website

http://www.obamawaffles.com/

on the site are caricatures of kerry and michelle

look at the pic of michelle, i would not call that racist

the pic of kerry is goofy, like all caricatures...but his features are not exaggerated to the point where one could say that the artist intended to denigrate

that cannot be said for the obama pic, and its placement on the box is meant to bring up memories of aunt jemimah

now lets compare that pic with the one mad magazine used on the cover of one of their issues

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/08/mads_obama_and_m...

obama as alfred e newman

now that is parody, and could never be construed as being racist

get the idea?

I have yet to meet a GOPer who isn't a racist, that includes members of my own immediate family who I no longer talk to.

It doesn't even really matter whether it's racist or not, it's just an astoundingly infantile idea that speaks volumes about the humour quotient of the people who dreamed it up and endorsed it. If you find that shit the slightest bit funny, you are either a plank or you're five years old.

CowBoy Bob in Austin @ 38:

Why did Dennis set my desk ON FIRE? lol!

"Then you brought in that racist box of waffles and now he wants to f* you up"-- lol

This fella can really riff with reverence. Loved it!

Keep working on them, is my advice. Don't confront them, per se-- just bring them along at your own pace.

BTW, I'm British. This is one fundamental difference between our two nations; the American will look at that box and go "that's offensively racist", while the Limey, once he's stopped questioning the actual legality of the exercise (what with the fake 'endorsement' and all), is going to think "this is the unfunniest thing in the world ever".

I always thought Obama looked more like the Cream of Wheat guy.

In an interview I saw in a documentary, the original artist was said to say he actually met someone that looked like that working at a restaurant as a chef, and hired him to sit in for him. He said his model didn't seem particularly servile, and seemed to honestly enjoy his work.

Only the reich wing and republicans would ever contend that racism is a 'value'....

Of course, I always wondered if it was my hearing, or odd sense of humor, but I always thought the name Aunt Jemimah sounded like they were saying, "Ain't ya mamma."
