On the heels of the announcement that a deal has tentatively been struck to bail out Wall Street, John Kerry appeared on Fox News Sunday and put John McCain's campaign-suspending stunt into perspective:

Barack Obama was in constant touch with Secretary Paulson almost every single day, sometimes several times a day for the last two weeks. Barack Obama was the first person to speak and lay out at that meeting at the White House for about seven or eight minutes the entire parameters of what we had resolved. John McCain, when offered the opportunity to speak, passed, didn't speak until the very end, and when he spoke, did not offer a solution and did not say what he would support. The fact is that on a Monday of about a week ago, John McCain said the fundamentals of our economy are strong. Within a few days, John McCain was suspending his campaign because of the greatest crisis since World War II. He suspended his campaign and it took him 22 hours to get from New York to Washington, a one-hour flight, had time to go do Katie Couric in an interview, had time to give a speech to the Clinton millennium, and when he got here, he wound up -- I mean, he said he was going to interrupt his campaign to come down and save the negotiations. Most people believe what he did was interrupt the negotiations to come down and save his campaign.

ouch!

On that station, no one cares what you say, Senator Kerry.

The GOP need to change their symbol from the elephant to the lemming.

Not only is McCain a liar. But he's a bad liar.

Ask Letterman.

you are right. but that doesnt diminish the importance of his saying it--and saying it TO THEIR FACES--and IN THEIR OWN HOUSEHOLD. As Karl Rove liked to demonstrate with the telling of lies, if you repeat something often enough...

McCain Lies
Lindsey Graham swears to it.

Kind of a Liar Liar Pants/Skirt on fire

Damn Kerry, if only you'd learned how to b*tchslap people that way in 2004.

don't be silly. they don't feel a thing. haven't in years.

i disagree, people that watch fox routinely need to hear
this message. they can believe what they want but senator kerry called them on their bullshxt. kerry knows
that mccain is pulling another stunt.

I have no idea why my "Quote this message" link is not appearing but I wanted to say you both make good points. I think this stunt is reather transparent and if Mc Cain and his handlers had half a brain, they would find it embarrassing.

Bingo

John Kerry campaigns for Obama more eagerly than he campaigns for John Kerry.

I think that Kerry had to get beat and then skewered by the press in order to grow the balls to just say it how it is without pause. Jon Stewerts consistent criticism of Kerry's oratorial drawl just doesnt apply here. Its nice to finally see him fired up and givin' er.

That reminded me why I really liked Kerry during the Vietnam era.

Y'know...I voted for this guy 4 years ago and he is finally waking up to what happened to all of us whilst he slept.

I feel towards JK as I do for Bubba Clinton: I am proud of what they have done on many occasions but am still deeply pissed off at them... and holding contradicting thoughts simultaneously is what Republicans do every waking moment...

Am I alone in this?

Youtube's connectivity to the west from NYC sucks.
If one is unlucky enough to have some video served
from there to here, it plays very, very poorly.

Excellent. And even better, all the folks that get their news only from Fox heard it.

Kerry, like Gore, has been liberated by losing.

I agree with constituent (post #8), Fox News was the best place for Kerry to say all of that. If Kerry had gone on MSNBC or CNN, then he would be just about preaching to the choir.
With a little luck Kerry's statement might have swung a few people on the fence away from McCain. Or, at least, give them pause to think about if McCain is really the best person for the job.

The Obama campaign needs to hit hard on a couple topics.

First they need to say "McCain wants to lower taxes for people making $5,000,000 (five Million dollars) a year. It is true and it sounds incredible. Why would anybody want to lower taxes on people making $5,000,000? Shit don't they have enough already? Jowe and Betty Winebox/Sixpack do not understand this.
Second: Obama needs to let Joe Sixpack and Betty Winebox know that McCain wants to tax their empoyeer provided health insurance. THIS IS HUGE. If Joe is making $40,000 a year and he gets health insurance he will be taxed at $62,000 a year. Health insurance being values at $1,000 a month - $12,000 a year. Now id Joe and betty are married and they each work and they each get health benefits at their respective jobs they aill be taxed for an extra $24,000 in income per year. The general public do not know this because they have not been told. Obama needs to say this often often often often often often often often often often and LOUD LOUD LOUD.

Please pass this along so that the Obama campaign sees it somewhere..

Sorry for the spelling and the other errors. It's Sunday and I'm tired.

What's this??? Am I perceiving cracks in the FOX News Empire that worships Palin as the Supreme Intellectual who is over-qualified for the VP slot?

Maybe since Obama has agreed to play nice with AIPAC and talk tough about terrorism (and now support sticking the taxpayers with the bill for the lack of oversight on Wall Street and in Big Banking), the people that *decide* who the presidents are in this country may give him a chance.

What's surprising is that FOX even asked Kerry his opinion.

There's some subtle shifts going on behind the scenes in power-politics land, me thinks.

The GOPers have long sought the Holy Grail of The Perfect Stooge. Now that they have two of them, they may finally be thinking it's too much of a good thing. At least they should keep the appearance that their candidates have half a brain. When it is so obvious even to their own supporters that neither one of their candidates is competent, I think they are realizing the backfire potential. (Note how Planned Parenthood just raised $700,000, 2/3 of which was from new donors, by running an email campaign featuring Palin).

FOX news won't ask for your opinion if they don't want their audience to hear it, that much is at least established.

It's okay, okay, okay.

In the last year has John McCain done *ANYTHING* that wasn't a "benefit" to his campaign? Is there any position he has today that's based on his own actual beliefs?

Seriously, I'm asking. I can't think of a single thing.

Kerry would have been a good president. It sucks that Americans were still so infatuated with bluster over substance.

What Kerry needs to put into perspective is that this 'bailout' promises to be that greatest heist in the history of the world.

Its Cash for Trash!

And once again the cowardly Democrats are being stampeded by the arch swindler, the Swindler in Chief, George W.

SPANKED!

How come Kerry is such a badass now? He also gave one of the best speeches at the Convention, by far the toughest one on McCain. It's a shame he only found his voice 4 years too late.

Was it infatuation, or that they truly thought the leader of the U.S. should be a simple minded, common, everyday, beerdrinkin' buddy. I'm not saying the majority of American's felt that way, just enough to tilt the final tally his way in '04. Did we not provide enough examples of just what bush did to us as a country as well as individual citizens during his first 4 years? Did they (repubs) manage to scare the crap out of the common folk with henny-penny, the sky is falling bs? That election cycle had so many references to future terrorists attacks, 9-11, evil-doers (that always makes me think of Jodie Foster's movie NELL). I'm enjoying the wake up call so many folks should have heeded in '04, but still amazed at the people so in awe of the village-idiot.

They will NEVER do that WHILE running for office... same thing with Al Gore. It's sad but true :(

Kerry scoffing at anything is a joke.

John McCain had time to go do Katie Couric in an interview?

I admire John Kerry for the work he's done so far this campaign. Unlike certain others, he's stood up for Obama and backed him all the way with real tough, articulate points. I'm dissapointed he lost in 04 but to blame him and not the Democratic party as a whole is a little ignorant.

please read. this is the backstory to the white house summit last thursday. some say this may explain the reason why mccain couldnt look at obama during the debate. he showed himself to be inferior in leadership and intellect during the meeting. a must read.

VERY INTERESTING!!! So all the dog and pony show will (hopefully) become a topic for public consumption, complete with details of who, what, where and when. Wonderful!!! Ain't facts a b&*^%!! Super McCain flying in to save the day... then crawls out quietly when he has the opportunity he asked for (a show of unity)... He was being typical political and self-serving in every aspect of this whole deal.

what heartens me more than anything is that the dems had their act together. they had a game plan coming in. they are staying sharp as hell and on the lookout for the kill. this is what they need to do to win. i love the way they made obama the leader of the dems by speaking on their behalf. he sure is smart enough to hold his own. knowing full well that the repubs are splintered on this issue, mccain could either look really small by representing a splinter group or stumble all over the place representing 2 opposing sides of his party. i tend to conclude that he felt he was humiliated in the white house, or at the very least did not look like the leader of his party.

Dont forget that durn librul NY Times newspaper that wouldnt publish the story of illegal wiretapping when they got it because "..it was close to the election time, and it might affect the election." they dont miss a lick when it comes to any Democrat's mistake, real or not.

Interesting that in that backstory, an unnamed republican source is quoted for Obama's brief opening remark of one line "We have to get something done". John Kerry says he spoke for eight minutes covering all the negotiations thus far. Why is the Post using a republican source for Obama's remarks? Who was the source and was he lying to the Post in light of Mr. Kerry's version?

I don't believe for one second that all Obama said, after being named by Pelosi as the person to speak for the Democrats, would be "We have to get something done".

this is painful for mcC**t

I think there may be an added personal motive for Kerry to be out front against McCain. They claim to be friends, and McCain did call the swiftboating dishonest and dishonorable. So you'd think he may want a lesser role in going after MCain. But, I bet Kerry was really PO'd with him after the whole "botched joke" episode in '06 that really hurt Kerry. McCain was out front on the call for an apology for insulting the troops, when any fool could see that that was NOT Kerry's intent. Even when directly asked if he thought Kerry really meant to insult our troops, McCain still towed the Republican line against his "friend" by giving a non-answer. That sure would have upset me, and I wouldn't doubt that it is giving extra motivation to Kerry now.

Holy shit!
If he had talked like this four years ago it would be "President Kerry".
But he nailed it this time.

Nice job by Kerry, but I am still wondering why FOX let him on the air, and why he agreed to go on FOX.

He doesn't have a team of pansy-arsed, blue-dog Democratic strategists flapping about him and fretting that he might say something that offends their sensibilities - things which could have saved his campaign.

It's beginning to look like the Repukes and Fuxx news are regretting their choice of McAncient and Caribou Barbie. It looks to me like Rupert Murdoch's spotted the torpedoes approaching and is applying damage control and is covering his ass having Kerry on to appear being "fair and balanced". He wants something, like not having the FCC in an Obama administration not investigate his lies and pull his franchises.

He had time to go do Katie Couric? Boy, Sarah Palin is going to pop her cork!

Now I know what GOP stands for... Grumpy Old Person.......

OWNED!

Too bad Kerry couldn't sling words like rats held by their tails when it mattered back in 2004. But seriously, what I want to know (and I'm from Canada where we see things more clearly (the air has less of that political bs you all (y'all) are so fond of) is who in their reasonable mind would actually even think of voting for Caribou Babie Doll and Mc-RigidoldmanwhoisatickawayfromexplodingleavinghotforteachervanPalininchargewiththenuclearcodesZOMGZOMG!-Cain.

Maybe its the 'reasonable' part. Don't get me wrong... we don't hate on you Americanos. Just don't fcuk this up and make one of the worst decisions in history. It would be worse than that time we let Celene Dion get famous.

Dear god, stay out of this.

had time to go do Katie Couric in an interview,

Man, I missed it!

I am very very very very glad.

Did you know many of the fat cats who circulate from board to board and from job to job throughout the financial industry are also members of the Bilderberg Group and or the Trilateral Commission, founded respectively in 1954, and in 1973, in New York City? When someone takes your money and steals your car, it makes an impression. When they belong to such a shadowy political clique, it leaves an indelible impression. Many elected officials even belong to these cabals, hence the secrecy. When Bill Clinton eased banking restrictions, he dished out $8-billion dollars for “community reinvestment loans.”

When the financing schemes fell through, as is their wont whenever 30-million Mexican nationals buy inflated properties and default, it left banks in the lurch. Hillary Clinton counted on the Politically Correct loan giveaways to buy votes. Interestingly enough, had Hillary secured the nomination; she, instead of Barack Obama would preside over the bailout. So, where’s that $8-bilion plus dollars? Where’s Hillary? Why the caveat in Section 8 of the bailout: “Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency?”

The Global Initiative people (code speak for car thieves) took my money; they stole my car. If you or I did half the things these people have done, we’d be serving consecutive life sentences. Wise up, get angry, and let the bubble burst. Besides, Ben Stein says we’re going to be just fine. You have my word on it too. Gentlemen, I want my money back. “You are a
den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out.” –Andrew Jackson, to fraudulent financiers, 1832: http://theseedsof9-11.com
