VP Debate: Palin's Unintelligible, Non-Answer On Nuclear Weapons

There were no game changers in last night's Vice Presidential debate, but the American people were treated to more rambling, incoherent non-answers from Republican Sarah Palin.
Among the head scratching moments was this rant about nuclear weapons. Palin starts off on one of her "US Americans -- such as" answers about how America uses nukuler weapons safely, yadda, yadda, yadda. Here's the money line:
" Uh, nukuler weaponry, of course, would be the be-all, end-all of just too many people and too many parts of our planet so those dangerous regimes again cannot be allowed to acquire nukuler weapons, period."
Huh? Notice how once she realizes she's not making any sense and talks herself into a corner, she changes the subject. One need look no further than this clip to see that she is the most unqualified, unfit candidate to run for Vice President in modern U.S. history. The thought of this person being anywhere near our nukes scares the living daylights out of me. How about you?

Perhaps the most telling was her non-answer to the "Achilles Heel" question. It became apparent almost immediately that she had *no idea* what the expression "Achilles Heel" means! Good grief.

Again. The nation was impressed last night with Palin. Not because she won but because she merely "PASSED!" That's all most americans aspire to so they are happy to see it in a non-elitist candidate.
A friend and I counted 12 different times she would, instead of answering the damned question, segue into McCain-isms and Bush-isms, and slogans. Her saying we need change, and 'meaning no insult' and then deriding Biden for how long he has been a senator, and how NEW IDEAS and NEW THINKING was needed. I guess she totally forgot Old Fart McBush, her running mate.
I wonder if she understands what "a wink and a nod" mean? Winking can mean you are just kidding or not telling the truth. Winking during a vice presidential debate is not the best idea.
Can "be-all, end-all" really mean something like "fatal"? I thought "be-all, end-all" had positive connotations, like "that Lexus is really the be-all, end-all in luxury motoring" or "he's the be-all, end-all in his own mind." I would love to pick on Palin for something significant, but it's too easy.

Why put stock in Debates? McCain campaign lost big time last night. They needed red meat to throw to the base and they needed to convince undecideds she wasn't incompetent. Given Biden's very intelligent tactic of keeping the focus on McCain, and given Palin's over-the-top beauty pageant smiling, non stop folksiness and her actual non-answers I think regardless of who you think won, the McCain campaign lost last night.

Sarah Palin is an excellent performer. That one was the head scratcher for me. Bottom line, look at her answer. Nuclear weapons being "be all and end all" is the duuuuuh response. Clear grasp of the obvious. Saying that "those" regimes should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons of course is the question...the question of HOW would you Governor Palin prevent them from acquiring them
This was her low point. She couldn't turn the question to energy, so she punted. Biden's answer was very direct.

I semi-agree with "fromnorthoftheborder" that "i-dill" for "ideal" is annoying, but that's just a dialect variation, it doesn't change the syllables of the word completely. At least she didn't say "i-dears."
These bozos will represent us to the world, and it's clear that Biden is far more ready for that than Palin will ever be. Then again, it's been a long time since America chose substance over style...
My honest opinion: Palin did quite well, considering the expectation going in, and I actually found her likeable. That said, I think Biden also came across as likeable, and on substance was the hands-down winner.

You want theme? How about the Republicans are the party of total and utter disaster? This is the party of Katrina. Illegal wiretaps. A destroyed economy. Outed CIA agents. Iranian danger. A 2-state solution that went nowhere. Torture. Bribery. Firing DOJ staff for political party. Jessica Lynch, Abu Ghraib, and Pat Tillman. Kangaroo courts at Guantanamo. How about that this is the party of ideological failure? I just copied the text of the debate from CNN.com to a Word document - Palin said "also" 48 times. "Also" was said a total of 53 times - the other five were split between Biden & Ifill, 3 & 2 respectively.
Palin used the word "maverick" or "mavericks" (only) six times before Biden shot it down.
Palin only said "darn right" twice.

When she kept repeating "nukular" my theory was that she'd been told to go ahead and say it that way, repeatedly. Go ahead and own that pronunciation, and at the same time bug the crap out of the kind of people that it would bug. First she can't name a newspaper she's read, and then she says "nucular". Forget the pit bull and the pig. Palin is GWB with lipstick. Half the time I have to mute the TV when her voice comes on. I had to do the same with GWB.
I think McCain owes Palin an apology. How could she have known what she was getting into? McCain picking Palin is about the same as if he had picked a member of a state legislature. There was no way she was ready.
She should have said NO to McCain's offer. She should have felt out Ted Stevens to see if he was going to retire. He could have retired now. His group of Senators are up for reelection this year. She could have jumped into the Alaska Senate race. Then if she had won, she would have gone to Washington where she could have gotten up to speed. Now she's pretty much a laughing stock. Not sure she could get reelected as governor.

Yes, she was aggressive, but so fucking what. Half of her answers were STILL muddled piles of garbage reminiscent of the couric interviews, she was just able to evade and change the topic more freely, so as to let off a smoke screen.
As for her "connecting with the American people", I guess if you like being winked at every five seconds, and pandered to with super-sonic-churchmouse voiced homilies littered with forced contractions... All of the MSM is saying Sarah Palin did well because she did not totally screw up. I say she did screw up because she was mediocre at best. A better term to describe her performance in the debate was poor. Why does the MSM say her performance was OK? Is this only because she did not fall flat on her face? But I say she fell on her knees and stumbled the whole way toward the finish line. So Palin still failed to show that she is qualified to be President any way one views this debate.
