Eric Cantor’s problem was beyond not supporting immigration reform. He tried to have it both ways. The person who beat him, David Brat, is against reform, but that is not in keeping with the views in his district. A Public Policy Poll shows Cantor lost because of how unpopular Republican leadership is.

Key findings: “Cantor has a only a 30% approval rating in his district, with 63% of voters disapproving. The Republican leadership in the House is even more unpopular, with just 26% of voters approving of it to 67% who disapprove.”
