I'm more or less at the point where I'm no longer all that concerned about alienating friends over the Republican party's newfound zeal for crawling into women's bodies and telling them what they can and cannot do with it. It's the first time in years I've actually been tempted to blow off friendships over it.
Here's a shining example of why:
During a recent Google hangout with right-wing activists, Mike Huckabee pledged that if he becomes president he will sic the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service on Planned Parenthood, but also said that such steps are “secondary” to his “more important” plan of outlawing abortion through a sweeping executive fiat that grants personhood rights to zygotes.
Huckabee vowed that he will criminalize abortion, no matter the consequences: “I think that the bolder and more important and more urgent position is to invoke the constitutional rights of the unborn, recognizing them as persons, expecting lawsuits, expecting extraordinary pushback, and goodness, perhaps riots in the streets.”
Zygotes über alles!
